This looks like a rather decently conducted and documented research :)

edit:
Well, after having watched it, I'd say more questions arise (most of them asked by the very film) than are answered, and there is definitely nothing conclusive here. To be honest I would remain more than sceptical if it wasn't for some of the big names like Ruppert Sheldrake involved in the research, even though I do personally believe in afterlife. But my personal motto is that knowing is better than believing, especially in the case of third party information. But still this is IMHO a breakthrough research, and a definite must-see for anyone remotely interested in the subject.

Breakthrough scientific evidence for the afterlife. The Scole Experiments. For five years a group of mediums and scientists witnessed more phenomena than in any other experiment in the history of the paranormal, including recorded conversations with the dead, written messages on sealed film, video of spirit faces and even spirit forms materializing. These experiments may finally convince you there is life after death. The scientific team in change of overseeing these experiments include world renowned Cambridge Scientist - Dr. Rupert Sheldrake, Dr. David Fontana and Researcher Montague Keen who died during the filming of the documentary.

The Scole Experiments. These were a set of experiments that made scientific inquiry on the proverbial question: Is there life after death?

In 1993, psychic researchers conducted a set of experiments in the Norfolk village of Scole. These experiments lasted for about five years. What the researchers observed during this five-year testing period has since been a controversial subject with many scientists and skeptics.

Many skeptics claim that non-scientific tests were conducted, therefore yielding non-scientific analysis and data. with psychic mediums being in total control of the tests, it’s hard to argue with that claim.

But…there were those who claimed to have witnessed extraordinary things with their own eyes. Things that could not have been hoaxed or so easily dismissed.
According to the Scole Experiments website:

“The investigators… encountered evidence favouring the hypothesis of intelligent forces… able to influence material objects, and to convey associated meaningful messages, both visual and aural”

But how do we know it is the dead we are communicating with here? It could be creatures from other dimensions impersonating the dead? Or it could be good or evil spirits?

Putting aside the question of how do we know who or what is being communicated with (which is a valid question).....from this it seems like *something* is being communicated with. Which goes to show that the mind and the universe does not work the way materialist fundamentalists think it does. All it takes is one provable conversation with something in this way to completely change people's perspective on the nature of reality. But it's unfortunate that psuedo-skeptic disbelieve-aholics will not even watch a video like this. They will just Google "Scole Experiment Debunked" and believe everything they read.

But about the question of how do we know it's really such-and-such a person? To me, the highest quality of information from the "dead" is stuff that only that person knew while alive, not even the living people they knew, and yet can still be verified. It's rare but it can happen. This would rule out some nefarious being plucking things out of the living's mind's.

When I talk to people about this subject, I like to recommend this book by Victor Zammit: http://www.victorzammit.com/book/4thedition/4thedition.pdf - Which is a good book. Not the best ever, but a good starting point to get an overview of possible evidence that should be considered.

You are always going to get skeptics in these matters, believers there is ample evidence, skeptics there isn't enough and probably never will be. All these events are natural, following laws as yet undiscovered to science. But in time the two shall meet, science just needs to catch up.

Thanks bogeyman - I hadn't seen this documentary - very interesting. A close personal friend of mine is a minister in the Spiritualist church and we have had many conversations about such phenomenon over the years. The Scole case seems to have been thoroughly investigated by the researchers identified in the film. My sense is that it's legitimate (although the phenomena are still mysterious).

You are probably aware that one of the participants in the Scole group, Robin Foy, wrote a book: Witnessing the Impossible: The True and Complete Story of the Scole Experiment (2008).

As it happens, I came upon your post having just read a detailed summary and analysis of Foy's book by William C. Treurniet (seems to be an acoustical engineer), recently published online. I am unable to comment on the quality of Treurniet's summary as I don't have access to the book, however, it's quite lengthy and very systematic. The link is below, along with another link to Foy's website with further information about Scole, including photos of some of the material shown in the video (apports, writing on film, etc).

One thing of interest that wasn't covered in the documentary are the circumstances surrounding the rather sudden end of the Scole experiment in November 1998. This is discussed by Foy in his book and is covered by Treurniet in his summary.

You may recall the glass dome on the table in the seance room. This functioned as an interdimensional portal between the physical world and the spirit realm. Apparently what happened is that a physical race in the future of humanity (but genetically different from ourselves) tried to use the portal to go back in time. Since interfering with the past violates natural law, the spirit team closed the portal, terminated the experiment, and told the Scole group not to attempt contacting the spirit team again.

Nevertheless, experiments in physical mediumship continue elsewhere, e.g. the Felix Experimental Group in Germany and the Yellow Cloud Circle in France. Apparently both are producing significant physical phenomena, documented to some extent at their websites (below).

Truly absorbing, and compelling. The researchers were obviously astounded-and being genuine men of Science had to concede there was no trickery, or even possibility
of trickery. The evidence as contained even in the video is enough to give you a lot to go on-at some point, even the most hard-bitten rationalist has to be aware that
the Universe is a very strange place indeed.

I've done hours of research on this subject and coupled with my own out of body experiences I have no doubt that we are eternal. We'll die and are reborn over and over until our lessons have all been learned. I've heard the voice of God telling me not to worry, everything will be OK in the end, I just need to keep love as my primary motive and eventually we'll all learn the ultimate truth, when all are redeemed.
And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul.
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold.
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last.
When all is one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll.

If you don't have time to watch the whole documentary, then just watch this excerpt:

@13:45 they say the initials were those of Thomas Edison, this is what they caught on film:

And this seems to be the case: I found this letter from Tomas Edison (http://www.icollector.com/Thomas-Edison_i10836233):
http://media.liveauctiongroup.net/i/10077/10836233_3.jpg
See how the signatures look similar...

There's also this coin advertised on Ebay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/THOMAS-A-EDISON-PHONOGRAPH-WORKS-TOOL-CHECK-TAG-E-P-W-888-/281653030219):

Thomas Edison was known to be interested in afterlife communication:

So unless it's a forgery, it could well be a proof of life after death... what do you think?

I have the book done by the original team, very compelling story. The Why Files has just dropped an episode on this subject.
