It was all a gaffe. The pope didnīt mean to shake hands, he was just making a formal gesture to introduce the guy with the executive suit.

Some bishops didnīt get it and have shaken hands with him by mistake. Others got it and just smiled.

Technically, no one from the church is supposed to shake hands with him.

No one (except family members) is supposed to touch the Queen, either. It's strict protocol. Something to do with them being reptilian, do you think? :drama:

No one is supposed to touch royalty for fear off poisoning( that is royalty being poisoned) , if anyone was to shake hands with them or vise versa the royals are suppose to wear gloves , Lady Diana was the only one to shake hands with out gloves, and the first one to shake the Hand of an AIDS patient with out gloves in the royal family. the royal family was in awww and very upset about that.

If he was just introducing that guy, he needn't have had his hand out at all. He could just walk along with both hands behind his back.

No. This is indeed a formal introduction gesture practiced by many members of the royalty and the church. Iīve seen this many times in videos, movies, etc...

Hi Shadowstalker, you're not supposed to shake hands with the Queen even if she's wearing gloves, which she always does, or if you are wearing gloves either. Royalty is known for killing members of their own family, too.
