I always liked the Beatles, but after I woke up I found out more about John Lennon
in particular. He wasn't just a crazy guy sleeping in a hotel with Yoko talking about
world peace. He knew it all along more than 40 years ago!
"In 1969, the 14-year-old Jerry Leviton, armed with a real-to-real tape recorder,
snuck into John Lennon's hotel room for a chat":
niCUcM65qLE
Some of his quotes:
“Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans”
“Our society is run by insane people for insane objectives. I think we're being
run by maniacs for maniacal ends and I think I'm liable to be put away as
insane for expressing that. That's what's insane about it.”
After waking up and listening to the words of 'Working Class Hero'
I understood the real meaning of the song for the first time:
UVEnm-LZozU
He also said in a video: What's the best way to defend a castle? Never
have every door shut. Leave one door open, so you know where they
come in.
Let's make sure John Lennon walking through that door wasn't in vain.
:peace: GIVE PEACE A CHANCE! :peace:

An excellent cover of 'Working Class Hero'. The rest of the album is also amazing. (Broken English)

My favourite John Lennon quote :-
“When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.”

Awesome thread Martijn! Really enjoyed re-listening to JL......I love him and the Beatles too!
And yes, to remember and to allow his words to sink in is of such wisdom. :o

I have always loved John Lennon, he had amazing wisdom and insight that sliced right through world control games. What a future visionary he was - his songs today are still so highly relevant!
"Imagine" is still one of the World's most favourite number 1 songs - this says it all with what is truly in the hearts of the majority of humanity. ;)

John Lennon returns his MBE to the Queen
9.00am, Tuesday 25 November 1969 (41 years ago)
John Lennon returned his MBE to the Queen on this day, as an act of protest against the Vietnam war.
Lennon's chauffeur Les Anthony returned the insignia of the award to Buckinham Palace in the morning, also delivering handwritten letters to the Queen, prime minister Harold Wilson, and the secretary of the Central Chancery, explaining his actions.
The letters were written on notepaper headed Bag Productions, the company Lennon had recently set up with Yoko Ono.
Your Majesty,
I am returning my MBE as a protest against Britain's involvement in the Nigeria-Biafra thing, against our support of America in Vietnam and against 'Cold Turkey' slipping down the charts.
With love. John Lennon of Bag
The action was predictably seized on by the media. Lennon gave an interview to David Bellan of BBC Radio Four in which he explained that he had been "mulling it over" for the past two years, and that the My Lai massacre carried out by the US Army in March 1968 had contributed to his decision.
He also said he had not consulted the other Beatles before returning his MBE, and that he had only accepted it after being persuaded by Brian Epstein.
The Beatles had each been awarded the Member of the Order of the British Empire in the Queen's 1965 birthday honours. The news was announced on 11 June that year, and the group received the awards at the palace on 26 October.
Lennon's MBE insignia was rediscovered in a royal vault in January 2009, 40 years after it was returned. It was found at the Central Chancery of the Orders of Knighthood at St James's Palace, where it had been kept from its day of return. It was still in its original presentation case alongside Lennon's letter to the Queen.

Beatles fans call for return of MBE medal rejected by John Lennon
The MBE medal that John Lennon famously rejected has been unearthed in a royal vault and now, 40 years after Lennon sent the award back to the Queen, Beatles historians are calling for it to be dusted off and put on public display.
The Fab Four were invested as Members of the British Empire in the Queen's Birthday Honours in 1965, after topping record charts around the world.
But later Lennon decided that he had sold out to the Establishment and returned his MBE to Her Majesty 25th November 1969 as part of ongoing peace protests masterminded with Yoko Ono.
In an accompanying letter Lennon said: "Your Majesty, I am returning my MBE as a protest against Britain's involvement in the Nigeria-Biafra thing, against our support of America in Vietnam and against 'Cold Turkey' slipping down the charts. With Love, John Lennon."
Years later he was quoted as saying: "Lots of people who complained about us getting the MBE received theirs for heroism in the war."
"They got them for killing people. We deserved ours for not killing people. In a way it was hypocritical of me to accept it."

He new something indeed. He was famous and talked about love & peace. There is always a lot of power and influence in music.
There was 'room at the top', but he didn't want to join them. That made him the enemy .

Lennon is my idol. my hero. and i know i'm not alone. this is probably an overdue thread. thanks Black Panther.
my copy of his biography, 'Lennon' , by Ray Coleman, is so battered and worn it's practically unreadable at this point. i used to carry it around like a devout Catholic might carry around a bible.
i was raised on the Beatles, my Dad having played their music relentlessly in the house i grew up in. i later took an interest in Lennon in particular. he was huge in shaping my attitudes and opinions; and probably, without me even realizing it at the time, he was likely the 1 person who gave me the "push" down the truth-seeking path. i don't know if he thought in terms if 'illuminatti' and 'shadow government' and so on, but he knew what was going on nevertheless. i don't think it's any coincidence that the fbi had a file on him.
many people don't know this, but he also had a ufo experience. he was sitting naked on his roof when a silver saucer-shaped craft cruised slowly by, just a "stone's throw away" he later said. it was something he discussed in detail with uri geller, asking the spoon bender for advice and insight. he also had a great interest in the paranormal, and frequently consulted psychics in his later life, and engaged in many "occult" like activities.
just a fascinating guy, all around. shame he's not still around. boy, we could really use him right about now.

I too love this music - I grew up on The Beatles.
But...I remember hearing the suggestion that they were a creation of the Tavistock Institute, and that their music was written by Theo Adorno. I was so shocked at this that I never wanted to look into it any further - ignorance is bliss in matters like this ;)
So is that all a vicious rumour? I'd love to hear what you all think/have heard.
Thanks

I met Ringo Starr when I was a kid at a Bob Dylan concert that my dad was security for. Blackbush in England, Bob Dylans first concert in the UK in years. I got to sit at the front with Ringo and Bianca Jagger who had just split with Mick. Me and Jade Jagger had our faces painted and played together. I was about ten. Wish Id met John though. Love the Beatles too especially John.
By the way thanks to Carmody for the Marianne Faithful vid - Broken English is an awesome album and her autobiography is another great one. x

I love his music. I'm always brought near-tears to both "Imagine" and "Power To The People". He was ahead of his time and despite plenty of messed-up rumors, never claimed to be perfect. I think he saw the light and he knew it was his time regardless.

They (The Elites, If You Will) were truly afraid of the Peacemaker known as John Lennon, yep truly scared of him and what he would have done for humanity, he was on a mission of world peace. MK Ultra I truly believe was engaged here.

Would you buy John Lennon's tooth for $31,000? That's just crazy!
http://edition.cnn.com/2011/11/05/world/europe/uk-lennon-tooth-auction/index.html
(CNN) -- The tooth fairy's trash became another man's treasure Saturday when a discolored molar that once belonged to John Lennon was put up for auction.
The winning bid came in at 19,500 pounds (U.S. $31,200), according to auction results posted online.
Michael Zuk, a Canadian dentist, is claiming responsibility for the winning bid. Omega Auction House, which sold the tooth, did not immediately respond to requests for comment Saturday.
Lennon gave the tooth to Dorothy "Dot" Jarlett when she worked as his housekeeper at his Kenwood home in Weybridge, Surrey, according to her son, Barry. Jarlett, who was employed between 1964 and 1968, developed a warm relationship with Lennon, her son said.
"She was very close with John, and one day whilst chatting in the kitchen, John gave my mother the tooth (he had been to the dentist to have it removed that day) and suggested giving it to my sister as a souvenir, as she was a huge Beatles fan," he said. "It has been in the family ever since."
With the exception of the past two years, the tooth has been in Canada for 40 years after Dot Jarlett's daughter married a Canadian.
Barry Jarlett, who said his mother is now 90 years old, said it was the right time to pass it on rather than to risk the tooth getting lost.
Karen Fairweather, the owner of Omega Auction House, told CNN last month that the tooth is too fragile for DNA testing but she has no doubt about its authenticity.
"Because it's coming directly from Dot, we don't doubt the provenance of the item," she said.
Some fans will sink their teeth into anything if they feel it's worth plunking down thousands to get closer their idols. A clump of hair believed to have been trimmed from Elvis Presley's head when he joined the Army in 1958 sold for $18,300 in 2009 at Chicago's Leslie Hindman auctioneers.
Jarlett said Lennon gave his family many gifts over the years. He plans to keep a leather wallet, and his mother still has a pearl necklace Lennon gave her when he returned from Japan.

"Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd created this in 1980 and it’s called simply
“non-violence” or “the knotted gun”. The piece is to symbolize no
more violence. When the artist learned that his friend, John Lennon,
had been murdered, he became so upset and angry over this senseless
death and the many other outbursts of unnecessary violence that he went
to his studio and started working on the “non-violence” project. “My first
sketches in three dimensions were rather rough and simple, but the important
thing was that the idea of the knotted barrel was with me from the very start,”
he said."
"Reuterswärd wrote later that humor was the finest instrument to bring people
together. While making his peace symbol, he thought of adding a touch of
humor to make his “weapon” symbolically ridiculous and completely out of order"

The more I learn about John Lennon, the more I like him.
Another quote of him. Instead of scientist wanting proof
for something to be real John said:
"I believe in everything until it's disproved. So I believe in fairies, the myths, dragons. It all exists, even if it's in your mind. Who's to say that dreams and nightmares aren't as real as the here and now?"
