Hi all

Before anyone comments about drinking or smoking some other stuff, no I havent. I came home tonight from a visit to my mother, I thought, with all this rain my leeks and other stuff in the garden must be doing well.

I slowly with a torch went around all my plants but, when i glanced over to my leeks, I saw a leaf moving back and frow.?

I got close and saw what looked like a normal full length slug, pulling some how on a leek leaf, I thought to my self, you are gonna go elsewhere away from these plants.

I shone my torch on it and went to grab the little bugger. It some how retracted into itself and vanished... I mean it i am not joking here, i almost resorted to destroying the leek to find it but it was no where to be seen......

I am kinda freaked about it.

Has anyone else seen this kind of thing?

Slugs can contract by quite a bit very fast and disappear into small cracks and depressions and seem to disappear.
They are molluscs and have no skeleton or shell to inhibit their camouflage.

Thanks Johnf but I have been gardening for years and removed many slugs and snails from my garden, I understand what you are saying but, i have never seen one move so dam quick and vanish completely.

It's the fairy slug, and it slipped away... ok, I have no idea, but it's a fanciful thought.

Reminds me of hunting for nightcrawlers. OMG, they can disappear fast as lightning down a hole that you can't even see.

I remember when I was about 5 years old seeing my hat and gloves that I had slept with in my bed (not wearing them, just hiding them from my evil sister) disappear from me right in front of my eyes when I woke up, I mean, I looked at them, then they just faded away in to thin air, it was very strange........maybe this slug was the culprit!

I had a friend whose fairies as she called them like to take her sissors and jewelry. She had bought 9 pair of scissors and one day none of them were in the drawer. In exasperation, she said something to the effect of "Ok, you win! I have no scissors and I need them NOW!" I have to go to work and have to have a pair. She stomped off, then came back and picked up her purse to leave. As she reached for her keys all 9 pair were in her purse!

She ended up going to an antique store, buying some costume jewelry, went to a craft store and got some shiny glittery stuff and put them all in a nice pretty crystal dish. She set it on a table especially for her fairies and said they could take anything in there they wished to use, but to please put something back in before taking something else. She never lost another earring from her jewelry box.

Put a bowl of beer in the garden. Bury it so the slugs can drink from it. They will drink it, get drunk, and drown in the beer. Repeat until beer looks good to drink.

It might have been the underpants gnomes.

Sometime what we see is not what it is...

Your story make me think about something... I was observing a UFO a day and the UFO exploded in front of my eyes, became a plane and disappear. I'll put the pictures on my profile. In a way, it is the same.

I observed weird things with insects too... and i'm suspicious about their real nature... for some of them.

It is a very good way to observe us... "i'm nothing and nobody... just a slug !" but in fact...

Try putting lemons and lemon peel on soil, they don't seem to like that and the fox's and cats wont 'do their business' on your garden either!!

Try spraying with a essential oils (cedarwood, pine and/or lemongrass) diluted in water. Won't hurt plants. I also read they don't like lavender plants.
Now for my strange story... My 86 year-old neighbor, Flo, always talked of killing snakes when she finds them. I asked her to come get me and I will
move them out of her yard. Well her brother was over and they had one cornered. I quickly came over. We all saw it disappear. Actually I saw it shape
shift into a daddy-long leg spider and walk away. Cool. I went back to my yard. A half an hour later I looked up and laughed as her brother was still
poking around looking for an answer. Sometimes we just have to believe what we see. Walk away without an answer. I worry less about her snakes.

Ive being seeing things as well, but maybe not so clear as you.they are there but when i focus they are not.....leaves me with a strange feeling of curiosity ........but not the feeling that i was mistaken. also my intelligence has risen dramatically,(but not my grammar)..........i know that sounds like a weird thing to say..........but perhaps changes are occurring in ways that we have yet to accept.......thanks for the post .i can relate to it.

Your encounter reminds me of The X-Files series.

Slug no. 1: So Martha, there I was nibbling on a choice piece of leek and BAM, there was this gigantic THING, some creature of sorts. It was moving an appendage like thing toward me. Oh slimey of slime trails, I was so scared.

Slug no. 2: Dear SnailGod in the Heavenly dirt place, what did you do?

Slug no. 1: I simply used the invisibility cloak you gave me for Christmas last year. You should have seen the look on that monsters face when I disappeared! I wonder if it was an ET?
