I took it upon myself to create a few charts of global earthquake activity from the information provided by USGS EARTHQUAKE website. I took the available information starting from 01 Jan 1973 up to 03 Nov 2011 and charted all earthquakes then separated them into categories according to magnitude. As you will notice, one chart represents all magnitudes while the other focuses on >5 magnitudes. What's interesting to note is the dramitic increase then the levels drop significantly in 2008 then begins a sharp incline across the board.

Interesting.....very interesting. :spy:

What would cause a sudden decrease of activity? Are 'they' trying to hide 'facts'? Also, I was looking into why the activity was increasing dramatically?

What global events would cause such a rise in earth tremors? Another interesting fact i found was the lack of data supporting 1-2 magnitude activity?!
:ranger:
I have been busy with possible data to support probable causes and possible affects from this increase: researching sink hole phenomenon, this is on the rise; researched solar activity, this is on the rise; animal migratory paths, these fluctuations are on the rise; magnetospheric disturbances, this is changing more rapidly.

Global warning proponents would have us believe humans are the cause? The data would support only nominal human interference: hydraulic fracking, oil drilling, man-made/caused pollutants......but what about the rest of the earth as a whole...the bigger picture? What are we to expect?

are there actually more earthquakes???? how many seismagraphs were used 25 years ago compared to now.... I think the earthquake increase is nothing more than lack of historical evidence..... but i could be wrong

@Setras - Too true. With recent advances with technology, I can understand the significant rise from 1973 to 2003 and agree with your statement. However, that doesn't explain what happened in 2008 reflecting a dramatic drop and the rise in >5 magnitude earthquakes after 2005. :typing:
I will have to do more research. :)

@Phil - your welcome :happy:

I knew of the link: Dlindquist (http://research.dlindquist.com/quake/historical/?mag=0&type=num&freq=year&style=raw). I wanted to see the info for myself. Some of my latest research has led me to the conclusion that, yes there have been updates. Namely, the equipment re-calibration and or equipment modernization which was completed at the end of 2008. This would explain, in part, the mysterious rapid decline of that year. Also, over 60 global seismic equipment sites were added after 1960 of a period lasting approximately 25 years. My findings has shown during the latter half of the installation there has been re-calibration done to reduce noise based on the human factor.

My conclusion: Tri-angulation methods for locating earthquakes hasn't changed since the addition of global seismic monitoring sites. Increasing equipment seismic monitoring sites won't necessarily increase the amount of documented activity, just enhance data received. Earth is going through major changes right under our feet. Leads me to want to be that much more prepared on all levels.
