No, there's absolutely nothing to worry about. Its orbit has been calculated extremely precisely. It'll miss us by a very long way.

(And no, it's not going to hit the moon, either! :) )

If it changed course like hogland is says do you think bill it will create questions about who or how the course changed?

G'day All,

Looks like 7 pulled out all its animation department for that one!
So, no sports on at the moment then...
Just lost the Rugby World Cup...
Cricket isn't on for another month (International that is)...
Melbourne Cup just ran...

Yep, must be a slow news week!

Interesting Asteroid Yu55, yes i to believe its not going to hit or cause any damage, but did a little digging and found some interesting "coincidences" with dates and when this Asteroid has been this close before. I think this marks more of a shift in social patterns and events on earth. I started by going on NASA JPL program and started to reverse the orbit of Yu55 and watched the dates go backwards. As the asteroid came near the earth or other planets i typed the dates into Google to see what i could find, a few things of interest about discovers in space, medical break thews massive recall of products by the FDA to do with cold and flu medication and a number of things a long list.

But one date they caught my eye was November 7th 2000 , Yu55 is real close to the earth the month the George W Bush won the Presidency over Al Gore. Interestingly it was Strange win lots of articles about the count. Then i wound the clock back more and lots more dates of interests U.N meetings world leaders gathered at times Yu55 is close to earth or other planets like Venus. Interesting stuff it could all be coincidences but i'm still winding back and more is coming to light. Take a look and see what others can find, more eyes and brains working together might shed some light on this.

One interesting thing though is that a national EMS broadcast is scheduled for 2pmEST. This was scheduled by FEMA back in June during which President Obama is scheduled to make an announcement. Could this just be a coincidence. I just finished watching the Richard Hoagland video on YOUTUBE. I really wonder this time!!

Does anyone know if it can be viewed? If so, from what part(s) of the world can it be seen? I would love to witness it's fly-by.

My guess is that IF Hoagland (and his sources) have guessed accurately, then the inhabitants of the Moon will probably move themselves out of the way of YU55....
But also, we have to remember that none of the predictions to date have come true....

In the swedish newspaper they say (translated):
"The best time to observe it is early in the evening of 8 November from the U.S. East Coast, said Don Yeomans of NASA to Reuters.
He points out however that it is difficult to see the asteroid - even at its closest to Earth.
- You will need a fairly large telescope to see it pass."

thats all I know. nothing too fear. i guess.

Mu gut feeling is that the energies are definitely present for an event of that magnitude...but doesn't mean it will actually happen...

But the potential, boy is it there. We are in for a bumpy week....

G'day Jacko,

Well that was better than I was expecting.
Lots of fear so the yobos take notice then teach 'em (while their not expecting it) that it's not paranoid to say that a bloody great lump of rock and ice is going to destroy "civilisation" if we don't figure out a way of stopping it. Yes, Apophis is a potential danger. There again it could be one we don't see coming...
So remember it's not if, it's when.
Glad they clarified that YU55 is not a threat this time through, would hate for the crazy monk (Abbott) to be found wandering the streets with a sign saying "the end is nigh".

Kind Regards, :yo:

CNN announced the asteroid this morning. During the time I watched they only devoted one short sentence to it. Following is from CNN's website:

http://www.cnn.com/2011/11/08/us/asteroid-flyby/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

(CNN) -- An asteroid the size of an aircraft carrier will pass Earth to within eight-tenths of the distance of the moon Tuesday, the closest approach to Earth of an object this size in more than 30 years.

The closest approach will occur at 6:28 p.m. ET when the asteroid passes within 202,000 miles of our planet, NASA said.

Follow space and science news on Light Years

The space agency classified the asteroid as a "potentially hazardous object."

If the asteroid were to crash into Earth, it could cause a 4,000 megaton blast and a magnitude 7.0 earthquake, according to scientists at Purdue University. If it fell into the ocean, it could cause a 70-foot high tsunami within 60 miles of the crash site, the experts said.

Podcast: Asteroid close encounter

However, the space rock, called Asteroid 2005 YU55, poses no threat of an Earth collision, according to NASA's Near Earth Object Program.

NASA plans to study the asteroid with the Goldstone radar antennas in California's Mojave Desert. Goldstone antennas are very sensitive radio telescopes used to investigate quasars, radar mapping of planets and comets.

Astronomer: No need to worry about this one

Scientists plan to reconstruct the shape of the asteroid with a resolution as fine as 13 feet (4 meters) using the antennas. Several days of high resolution operations are also scheduled at the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico.

It will also provide a rare opportunity for amateur astronomers to directly observe an asteroid with optical telescopes.

CNN's Sean Morris contributed to this report.
