View Full Version : What is religion for you?

I find it immensely hard to describe my experiences after
so many years of keeping quiet about them. But I will
try.
I am completely untrained, and have no book learning on
thiese matters at all, but I can contact my angel with no
problem. About 3 and a half years ago, I had a strong
command given to me that I should be healing again, and I
had let it slide. This was true, I really felt against
being in any sort of limelight, so by keeping quiet, I
had virtually stopped using this talent, or job I was
born with.
I began to meditate more, and also to contact my angel on
a more frequent basis. I call him mentally. If he answers
me I hear a voice that sounds so powerful, like the
howling wind coming down a chimney, a roar, but a gentle
roar that is kind and full of love.
The sessions began with me sitting and completely
relaxing. I would see in my mind's eye, the room and
myself sitting there. Then I would see a white light
appear, which grows into a tornado shape. It grows taller
until it is reaching from the centre of the earth, to the
stars. It grows wider till it surrounds me and the room /
house where I am. It has a blue/white colour, and is
powerfully full of energy. It spins around me, and I am
inside in the calm centre.
I become aware of my angel and a circle of light beings
with him. They are standing around me in a circle. The
atmosphere is charged with a holy sound, the sound of God
listening I call it...a high pitched sound that seems to
be the sound of creation. There is a feeling of magic and
mystery, and great holiness. This is my church, where I
belong. I then present to my angel and his friends a face
of a friend who may need help of healing, or is unhappy
because of something in their life.
Invariably they are helped in the most miraculous way. I
often do not hear about this as ppl tend to reappear if
they still need help, and not if they are cured. If the
prayer is not answered then I do hear...laughing.
Sometimes there is a staircase in the centre of the room,
spiralling up, and I can climb this, or, in the centre
there is a blue light which if you stand in it, behaves
as a lift and takes you up to the top. Here is a world of
blinding light, and can be hard to focus on anything
there, but I have been aware of beings of light there
that are pure love, as is my angel.
After I have asked for cleansing and healing, I always
thank the angels for their help, and for coming. I have
been told the tornado of whirling light is energy for
healing. It dissipates and dwindles and gradually fades
away, and the beings leave. I come back to the room
again.
This is a summary of what is probably the most religious
experience of my life, which I carry out in private, and
have not told many people about. I am sure you can
understand why.
I hope you understand and don't think I am crazy after
reading it.
With love, Jessamy.

The latin word 'religio' means 'reconnection'. That's how I understand it, as a process of direct and conscious reconnection with the Godhead, a personal endeavour without any middlemen.
There are good teachers and not all of organized religion is detrimental, but ultimately it's between each one individually and the Great Spirit.

Hi Jessamy,
thank you for coming forward and sharing your experience - it is wonderfully profound and uplifting.
I was taken aback to read your post as I too have experienced most of what you described in a vision a few year ago. I saw the spiral of light and watched it fill the space; I was in it's calm center. The charged atmosphere; the feeling of magic, mystery and great holiness. I saw a blinding light and experienced the most intense feelings of peace, warmth and 'pure love' ..unlike anything else. A healing.

Jessamy, Just a beautiful post. Thank you for sharing. No need to feel afraid of judgement here (crazy). Most of us have our own versions of "crazy", which we can freely share on this forum. Blessings

Only to be able to have a clear connection or re-connection. You are very fortunate to be able to have had your experience.
Religion or lack of is something people struggle with everyday. Should I go to church or not. Should I pray or not.
I have been exposed to a variety of religions and none as profound as one of my own making. Being outdoors, never have I felt so connected to our creator. I am always and totally in awe of the beauty. Love is another aspect of religion for me, that feeling of love for one another is so powerful.
Fear is instilled in some churches to keep folks coming back because they are afraid of the outcome if they don't is so not right.
A controversial subject I normally don't go near. This would be the place to do it.
Look at the sky, the trees, the mountains and feel the love, it is around us everywhere. True religion!

The way that you describe your experience is what I believe was meant to be. Personal & unique.
My experience has also been very unique, and fought from a very early age from being assimilated into so many of the Organized Religions I cannot count the attempts off the top of my head.
I wouldn't be able to describe mine so beautifully as your experience, and that is a wondrous as the pleasant variance of music, also as I think it was meant to be. Some songs simply are prepared & presented to reach deep down to more people than other songs.
The clues are the variance in DNA of every living thing on this planet, be it us or a tree. Our DNA is so unique, it is more unique than a fingerprint. I have heard it said that a sequencer can take a sample from a piece of wood, and given sufficient time determine the stump that it came from. :)
The 'ordinary' way people interpret what 'religion' is, is very impacted by the much more common experience of "Organized Religion," which is loaded with hierarchy, fixed doctrine, and conformity.
Not only that, just the way that you described your perspective and experience opens the door for a potential sharing process for each one of us, that isn't loaded with the current paradigm of expectation that occurs with people attempting to form their lives into "the shingle" that their guru, temple and dogma attempts to have unique individuals conform to.
This breath of fresh air perspective is so invigorating. :)
Thanks for sharing this nugget.

Organized Religionhttp://www.falboart.com/Originals/images/Hell_the_alternative.jpg
Power over people
a method of control using fear, guilt and shame.
against individual freedom of choice and thought

Why Do We Continue Listen and Attend Religions?
A sense of belonging.
Eternally seeking answers to Who Am I? Why Am I here? What Is My Purpose?
We've been trained early on to conform and not think for ourselves.
TODAY - What Is Happening?http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTOlDEZnnTyxGcyYHccRmk_PshdgjOB1pWKgTODP2h-fgG6_5vFCZr4p4l4Iw
People are leaving organized religions in droves in places yet others gain attendance. Why? Education? Economy?
The internet has provided greater awareness, insights, ideas, and access today like at no other time in history.
Answers and questions abound more ever as people experiment, listen and act.
The practice of meditation and yoga have swept the Western world over the last three decades. Why?
Our we truly witnessing an awakening, coming out of a deep sleep or hypnosis. We no longer accept the demagoguery of some silver tongued orator, to give alms so he can buy his Cadillac and molest choir boys on the side.
Have we accepted responsibility for our own salvation as being not in some external church or religion but inside our own hearts to realize and understand life and spirit.
That we create our own myths and in so doing enable ourselves to follow our bliss.

I think that religion is taking a personal experience like yours, and trying to demand others have the same one. Spiritual experience is whatever the being is actually experiencing, and allowing that to lead to change.

Yes, Jessamy I can understand why and no I don't think you are crazy either. What a beautiful experience and way you share with us.
I didn't grow up with a religion either. As I got older I did study some of them -didn't work- and I have never really had any formal "way" taught to me either.
I think there are many on PA -who share in the same experiences/religion you do -it's the reason some of us are here in the first place.
To those who don't think the Spirits, spirits, angelic and angels are guiding you or calling to you, think again. Sometimes they do it through other means -through other people or your dreams.
Thank you again Jessamy

Hi Eric:
It seems to me what you are highlighting is the essential difference between Organized Religion [I agree - quite dysfunctional] and the personal spiritual or religious experience [unique to everyone] and can be quite wondrous, different and worth sharing with one another.
Jessamy99 appears to me to have no indication in the OP about Organized Religion, which is full of conformity, division, hierarchal structure, etc...

Thankyou 58andfixed, for your post.
I try to see the truth in all religions - that doesn't always become apparent to me during a traditional service, but I am sure if I really understood the meanings in the holy books of each religion, they would directly reflect experience.
I think the truth has become lost in the translations.
I believe everything is just a reflection of the Creative force - like condensation when you breathe on a cold window - we are the droplets that form.
I am struggling to understand it all - being a beginner.
Thankyou again.
With love,
Jessamy.

Hi John:
Religion *could* be about conformity, and that it is well worth the effort discerning between Organized Religion and the unique personal religious experience, which has no room for conformity. In fact, if anything, endorses that given the range of individual and personal experiences, the collection we are at any point -- there is no room for one to conform to another.
Conformity is just another word for being divisive. Some Organized Religion draws a line in the sand, and some chose to cross it, while the mass choose another line in the sand they prefer.
I could see that in a world of 7 Billion mortals, that if there were 7 Billion personal and unique religious experiences, tolerance wouldn't be even an issue, because one would have to go beyond merely 'biting one's tongue' and "tolerating" one another because it would be too much mental cognitive work.
We would have to go into the realm of acceptance of the unique differences of one another, and different rainbows of experience would be the norm -- not some generic, mass branded, herd mentality. Acceptance would have the potential for being as common an experience as breathing air, or drinking water.
I thought it was obvious in the content of Jessamy99's OP, and I do get that a lot of people simply "REACT" to any notion of "Religion," most likely from some earlier experience with "Organized Religion."
I used to react that way myself. I have a different understanding now.
