Germany Boldly Shows Nazi-Themed Star Trek Episode

Germany boldly shows Nazi Star Trek episode 43 years after it was first filmed (but you could only watch it if you were over 16)

6th November 2011

For Star Trek, it truly was the final frontier.

More than 40 years after it was filmed, an episode of the famous show in which Spock and Captain Kirk dress up as Nazis has been shown in Germany for the first time.

The Patterns of Force episode was never screened in 1968 because it was little more than two decades after the downfall of Hitler's regime.

Boldly shown: The Patterns of Force episode was so controversial in Germany in 1968 that it was never screened. Here Dr Spock is dressed as a Nazi

Although broadcaster ZDF showed it for the first time, it was not on until after 10pm - and viewers were warned that no-one under the age of 16 should see it.

In the episode the Starship Enterprise visits planet Ekon where the citizens have begun behaving like Nazis. The swastika is displayed throughout the episode.

Spock and Kirk steal uniforms to infiltrate the regime. Nazi Germany is also referred to as 'the most efficient society ever created'.

The characters are surprised that such a culture could have developed on the planet.

Ironically Captain Kirk, played by William Shatner, and Spock, who is Leonard Nimoy, are both Jewish.

The episode, which is dubbed in German, was released on video in 1995 but has not been shown on free television before.

Simone Emmelius, editorial director at ZDF, told the German newspaper Bild: 'By showing this episode, Star Trek fans will be able to see the complete series for the first time in its entirety.'
The people of Ekon attempt to wipe out the nearby planet Zeon - which sounds similar to Zion.

In clear similarities with Nazi Germany, brown shirts patrol the streets and there is a Fuhrer in power.

On television, newsreaders discuss a 'final solution' to destroy the Zeons while Zeons across Ekon who are 'poisoning the land' are killed.

The people of Zeon are also referred to as 'Zeonist pigs' in the controversial episode.
The episode, in series two of the long-running series, was re-mastered in 2007.

The problem for them is that the swastika, or hakenkreuz if you are in Germany, is illegal to display without permission.
It is classified as an ''anti constitutional insignia'' which for once, is 100% accurate.
Many people get convicted each year for having the flag, even in their own homes.

Good fun. Couple of scenes reminded me of Hogan's Heroes.

I really do hate to be a stick in the mud guys but well Zionism is quite evil.
I watched a very interesting documentary on Zionism, fact of the matter is Jews and Palestinians lived together in harmony before the Zionist movement begun.
What happened in Germany was unspeakable, and please don't mistake what im saying, im actually of Jewish decent, from my others side so i will take "unsavory" comments to heart and take action.
BUT, fact is Jewish influence is very much in almost all MSM and TPTB operations, which can normally be traced to Zionist extremism, which says that all of non jewish decent are unworthy.
What some of the actions the Jewish army have taken to remove Islam from Israel is quite disgusting, but so is all war.
I just wanted to express my particular view on ONE very small sect of Jewish Nationalism, Extreme sects exist in most regimes.
There is a whole documentary on the matter just a case of typing in "the truth about Zionism" into YouTube.
I believe that it is all relevant to each other, some view some regimes as more extreme as others, but for me personally ones with religious connotations are the worst as the weak follow religion blindly.

Lol. I like the happy coincidence of them starting to behave like Nazis and inexplicably adopting the swastika... it's almost like that symbol is inherently fascistic *rolls eyes*

That's true, but it's in movies and documentaries all the time. Indiana Jones fought against the Nazis regularly and it's been on TV over and over.

Really, I don't get this stupidity. When searching for a reason, why they didn't air this episode before, all I find says: "Nationalsocialism is potrayed too oversimplified." Well, it is portrayed oversimplified in mainstream history... and apart from that again, what about the ever popular Indiana Jones movies? This is beyond me...

Have a laugh ;)
