This is probably a malicious message. Donīt click on the link, or you might be directed to a fake clone facebook or another website that might get you malicious software installed on your PC.

It means it's not from Facebook.
It's from the same people that send out fake bank account notices.

I would say it means some non-English speaking hoaxer is trying to get you to go to that link so a virus can be put in your computer, either just maliciously or to steal your info.
If you haven't encountered this kind of thing before, then you are very lucky!

A bit off topic but related to the thread title.

An year ago I wanted to delete my Facebook account. That was impossible to do. So I've contacted them and they've said that I could deactivate the account and if I don't log in for two weeks it will be removed automatically. (unfortunately I no longer have a link or quote for this)

The other day I had to help someone with a Facebook issue, so I deiced to create a dummy account and do my thing, but while at it, also test if my previous account had been deleted. I could log in with no problem and all most all my profile settings had defaulted to public! The account was not deleted and the profile info was in place. I simply got an email from Facebook that "your account has been reactivated".

To be honest, I am not quite surprised, but I would have liked it better if they simply said, no... you cannot delete your account and that's that. So once on Facebook... always on Facebook.

I've spent the next hour an a half going through each and every privacy settings I could find and switching it to "only me" (meaning hopefully that only myself, and CIA) have access to the information. But that did not work for my phone number... for some reason the phone number cannot be made private. So I simply deleted the number.

And to their credit, you can now choose a custom default privacy policy, that can be set to be very restrictive.

Yup best to simply falsify all the data.... be creative, make it look a little real :)

Hi Anchor,

Of course I did that before I left

However I believe they keep a track history of the changes you do to your profile. In fact, according to what appears on the "wall" they do keep a history of that. And now I see they've limited the number of times you can update some parts of your profile

Sometimes the 'verify account' messages are from ebay, credit lines or banks that I don't use. When bored, I click the link and give all the fake info they ask for, making it as believable as possible. Phone surveys can be fun too!

Nah, not me, you have me mistaken for someone else.
Maybe.

So once on Facebook... always on Facebook.

Booooooooooooo @ FB's "Privacy" policy!!!

I did meander around the settings and found this:

Deleting and deactivating your account
If you want to stop using your account, you can either deactivate or delete it.
Deactivate
Deactivating your account puts your account on hold. Other users will no longer see your profile, but we do not delete any of your information. Deactivating an account is the same as you telling us not to delete any information because you might want to reactivate your account at some point in the future.
You can deactivate your account on your account settings page.
Deletion
When you delete an account, it is permanently deleted from Facebook. It typically takes about one month to delete an account, but some information may remain in backup copies and logs for up to 90 days. You should only delete your account if you are sure you never want to reactivate it.
You can delete your account here.

and

Delete my account

If you do not think you will use Facebook again and would like your account deleted, we can take care of this for you. Keep in mind that you will not be able to reactivate your account or retrieve any of the content or information you have added. If you would like your account deleted, then click "Submit".

I cancelled all groups, "like" nothing, have never bought as much as a dirty rag, and report all adverts as "offensive" http://files.myopera.com/debplatt/smiley/chuckle.gif

I HAVE however, connected with many many friends from bygone years, and for that I am grateful!

I just recently had my hotmail account hacked! A nightmare trying to let all my contacts know that I hadn't sent them messages asking them strange things. I changed my password.
I'm not using Facebook anymore because I don't get a very good feeling about it these days.
Not that I have anything to hide, but I would like to have the choice in who has access to my information.
