FYI:
"The Syrian foreign minister has accused Washington of fueling unrest in the country by advising armed groups not to surrender themselves to the government.
Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem on Wednesday accused Washington of direct involvement in the ''bloody events in Syria'' and asked the international community to "condemn the involvement and to do what is necessary to end it."
He also said that Damascus considers the US call as an "encouragement to the armed groups to continue their criminal acts against the Syrian people and state''. The top Syrian diplomat has also accused Washington of attempting to block efforts to restore peace to Syria.
Al-Muallem made the statement in letters sent to a number of world leaders and international organizations including the UN and the Arab League.
Damascus on Friday offered amnesty to those who surrender their weapons until November 12 as part of attempts to ease months of unrest. Shortly after wards, US State Department Spokeswoman Victoria Nuland advised Syrian gangs to reject the offer and not to hand over their weapons.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March and according to the United Nations, over 3,000 people have been killed in the violence. Hundreds of Syrian security forces are among the dead.
While the Syrian opposition accuses security forces of cracking down on what it calls anti-government protesters, Damascus blames the violence on outlaws, saboteurs and armed terrorist groups sponsored by foreign countries."
