Man!! I´ve seeing a couple of giant white owls once, and I must confess they scared the sh*t out of me!!
I think some of them can even carry small kids.
Here in Brazilian Amazon, we have the Harpia, which can carry monkeys heavier than 25Kg.
Cheers,
Raf.

I once walked under a tree (at night) when suddenly a barn owl that was in the tree, SCREAMED so loud, i almost had a heart attack. I had no idea they did this. They are beautiful creatures though. I am wondering what has happened to the Arizona owls, regular food source.

One time I was working around several old mines in Nevada. It was getting dark and I was walking back to my truck. There was a huge pit in the ground with several mine entrances or adits on the sides. There were at least seven or eight barn owls sitting in the entrances to the adits. Some of them were 3ft tall just standing there. At first I thought they were small people or some weird creature I'd never seen. One of them finally got spooked and flew off and it was very large. If you have never seen one before they will put a pretty good scare into you!
