Dear ol' lord sid,
"Good ol' boys" is not exactly the term you should use in this context, rather the word "redneck" would be the applicable term. Here in MS, which is the heart of redneck country, "good ol' boys" are the ones that go into business or politics, and if you aren't one of them, you are typically screwed. Crony-ism at it's best. Occasionally, one might be so full of **** that one might be termed a "good ol' boy" without being part of the local political structure. Rednecks, on the other hand, have such ingenuity to occasionally accomplish remarkable feats, such as the water ski above. I personally have used a back hoe as a swing, but that's not quite as cool as what you have posted here.
Rednecks also possess remarkable skill in the utilization of duct tape, or duck tape, and since they came out with different colors of duck tape, we have alternated between the purple and the pink, so now one might see pink and purple spots all over the house. My wife is a true master of ducktape engineering.
@fred- you would be a spectator only until we finished off that first 12-er, then we'd talk you into taking a turn.

Yeah, I know about that meaning too, but that wasn't the one I meant.
But I do thank you for the caution.

OMG, PL, out of amusement by your post, I googled 'Rednecks and duct tape' and sure enough, before I could even finish typing the search words, it popped up as the first option, right away!
Had a good chuckle at the various pictures; kudus to some of the creative engineering, there!
PS Rednecks and Duct Tape sounds like an awesome band name, too.

Too right, KosmicKat! And, as long as it works, and people are also having fun along the way, then why not? Let it roll! (no pun intended)

Aw, I knew whatcha meant, there, buddy. Seeing as I consider myself one, and not the other, I figured I'd go for the distinction. Used to, good ol' boy did not have the negative connotation, but as cronyism and the few fleecing the many has entered into the mass consciousness even in podunk redneck-ville, then this contemporary use of the term has been applied.
If I had a shallow pond I would rent a back hoe and invite all of you so we could see how well it worked in reality. Of course, with the back hoe, half the fun could be making the shallow pond to begin with.
