"Carl Sagan gave his last interview with Charlie Rose on May 27th 1996. He discussed pseudo-science, religion, unfounded claims, his personal love affair with science and his struggle with myelodysplasia as well as other elements of his last book: The Demon-Haunted World."
I have always wondered how he thought up "Contact". It was such a remarkable idea.

Carl Sagan was the man who made me believe in science.

Carl Sagan's POV on religion in his last interview above is that a lot of the competing doctrines are after what feels good and not what is true, which I agree with. He also refutes ufos and yet he wrote "Contact", which was made into a movie. The movie is not quite the same as the book in terms of personnel involved in the experience of the off-planet adventure, but the worm holes and arrival on a planet where Jodie Foster (playing her character) meets with an entity in the guise of her father and the statement by that entity that the route she had taken had not been created by him and he didn't know who had created them, when she asked him the question, was mind-blowing to my mind.
I just cannot imagine how he conjured it up, especially in light of his views.

i couldn't agree more, klight
i have seen the movie many times, and have to say that loved it...
then a few months ago, i picked the book, i can whole-heartedly say i adored it...
i felt almost "jealous" of hadn't written it myself...i'm a jealous-free man, yet i was tempted...
there were so many intriguing well-written technicalities in Contact, along the whole story, that make me put it aside and think of Carl Sagan...
i have no proof, but a very very strong feeling this guy had access to solid inside-info
the way he predicts, way before it happened, politically, economically on one hand, scientifically and spiritually on the other, how the planet comes together is simply mind-boggling...
i refuse seeing it as a mere coincidental fiction...there's more to it that meets the eye...
i strongly recommend the book...it's also elegantly written...
who is truly this man?
does anyone has accurate info on his "side-projects"?
i would like to know
cheers

From Wikipedia:
"Sagan was associated with the American space program from its inception. From the 1950s onward, he worked as an advisor to NASA, where one of his duties included briefing the Apollo astronauts before their flights to the Moon."
I think this sentence alone shows that he was 'in' on the coverup regarding alien and human existence on the moon, and thus was a standard-bearer for the "no space aliens here" mantra by the MIC and Gov't. Moreover, this group-think could Not allow any thoughts of 'Spiritually Minded' concepts to taint their carefully crafted debunking and marginalization of anyone suggesting a link between aliens, hidden sciences and spirituality. You can be certain that he was Very Much 'in the know', and heavily invested in the PTB.
Simply my take on what I heard him say... and Not say.
