I think it is a UFO trying to be cloud.
A UFO version, of the dance of the seven vails.

I work in meteorology. Its the suns light refracting through the cirrus cloud. This refraction makes the sun look like an oval. I have seen this before when i was in the arctic. Similar to sun dogs and perihelia. You can Google that last one, easier then explaining it on this thread.

this^ The refraction can be quite amazing esp when there is alot of water in the air, i.e. high cirrus clouds. This can produce some profound and amazing effects;

I hope to get a chance to work at the south pole this summer and if I do I hope to also get the chance to photograph this effect.

This may be lenticular shearing of the top of the cloud by higher winds. It is beautiful. Here's a picture of Mt. Shasta w/ a large lenticular cloud over it:

Here are some cloud photos I took earlier this year. These are unedited.

I don't know how to do the photo manipulation, can anyone do density tests or brightness analysis on the photo of that cloud from the OP? I did a still frame on it. I tried to do some tests, but I haven't done this sort of stuff in years and did not get anywhere with the lunapics tool.
