FYI:
"If You Thought Police Brutality Was Bad … Wait Until You See What Congress Wants to Do Next Week

The police brutality against peaceful protesters in Berkeley, Davis, Oakland and elsewhere is bad enough.

But next week, Congress will vote on explicitly creating a police state.

The ACLU’s Washington legislative office explains:

The Senate is gearing up for a vote on Monday or Tuesday that goes to the very heart of who we are as Americans. The Senate will be voting on a bill that will direct American military resources not at an enemy shooting at our military in a war zone, but at American citizens and other civilians far from any battlefield — even people in the United States itself.

The Senate is going to vote on whether Congress will give this president—and every future president — the power to order the military to pick up and imprison without charge or trial civilians anywhere in the world.

The power is so broad that even U.S. citizens could be swept up by the military and the military could be used far from any battlefield, even within the United States itself. The worldwide indefinite detention without charge or trial provision is in S. 1867, the National Defense Authorization Act bill, which will be on the Senate floor on Monday.

I know it sounds incredible. New powers to use the military worldwide, even within the United States? Hasn’t anyone told the Senate that Osama bin Laden is dead, that the president is pulling all of the combat troops out of Iraq and trying to figure out how to get combat troops out of Afghanistan too? And American citizens and people picked up on American or Canadian or British streets being sent to military prisons indefinitely without even being charged with a crime. Really? Does anyone think this is a good idea? And why now?

In support of this harmful bill, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) explained that the bill will “basically say in law for the first time that the homeland is part of the battlefield” and people can be imprisoned without charge or trial “American citizen or not.” Another supporter, Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) also declared that the bill is needed because “America is part of the battlefield.”

The senators pushing the indefinite detention proposal have made their goals very clear that they want an okay for a worldwide military battlefield, that even extends to your hometown.

I do not like Sen. Lindsey Graham. He was on fox news the day Gaddafi was killed talking about how much money America could make over their concerning their oil. He is a warmonger of the worst kind IMHO. Graham and Ayotte just look at what we read.....complete sell outs. I can't judge people but can judge actions and their actions tell me they aren't for the people that's for sure...Ktlight great post and good find on that article....

It seems the chess play has accelerated. Pawns are being moved rapidly in every direction, making the coming year a real cross-road, after all, 2012 might just be an actual period of huge changes. I'm exited, and concerned...

As opposed to doing it now anyway via the Patriot Act and anti-terrorism national security mandates already going on? I will not comply.

They sure have enough Fema camps to imprison every one in, now don't they?? This is exactly what the elite want! So they right bills and pass them in advance so when they are needed it is all ok and legal!! Never mind the constitution, They do whatever they want and we are all sitting Ducks! Seems like peaceful demonstrations are not working too good. Since the Hunters come with weapons in hand then the unarmed Ducks are at the mercy of the Hunters maybe the Ducks need to start arming themselves?

The next thing will be going after the guns because they know if they try to much there will be a war, but then again, maybe that's what they want. They will play it as crazy unlawful gun nuts, but it's the guns that are the last defense outside of the spiritual protections. They just may want to start some revolt to play into their martial law plans.

Well, as I see it, this Bill can be a two-edged blade. It can be used against every traitorous politician in office, too.... I wonder if the morons even considered that?

I'm so looking forward to seeing these morons running for their lives when the "sleeping giant" finally awakens. There won't be a safe place for them to crawl under.
Sleepers, WAKE UP ALREADY!

Talk about two edged sword, when I heard Newt's explanation about illegal immigrant solution and the first part is to build that fence on the boarder within a year, something clicked and I said, "Fence for whom? To keep us in or them out?"

The USA is NOT the battlefield, but it seems they are doing all they can to make it so!

Well tbh USA people needs to stop thinking that they are above the rest of the world. Its ok if the battlefield is everywhere but USA soil? If you people dont start thinking for the hole planet and just think about your own little back yard then nothing will change.

In the end you are in the worst situation tha all the rest. The world is under attack by the US military but USA people will pay for their own prison making... at least we are being forced upon ... you are making it yourselves.

i truelly wish you stop being so self centered in your thinking. You are not different that Libya people ... they at least are being killed by your military ...

Very worrying if it is passed, especially when they have powers to go after non US citizens, but I suppose they need good reason to round people up right? :behindsofa:

As Unified said, a call too arms will play right into the hands of those who wish to implement these laws, it is not recommended in my opinion.

30 Signs That The United States Of America Is Being Turned Into A Giant Prison

If you live in the United States of America, you live in a giant prison where liberty and freedom are slowly being strangled to death. In this country, the control freaks that run things are obsessed with watching, tracking, monitoring and recording virtually everything that we do. Nothing is private anymore. Everything that you do on the Internet is being monitored. All of your phone calls are being monitored. In fact, if law enforcement authorities suspect that you have done something wrong, they will use your cell phone microphone to listen to you even when you think your cell phone is turned off. In many areas of the country, when you get into your car automated license plate readers track you wherever you go, and in many major cities when you are walking on the streets a vast network of security cameras and "smart street lights" are constantly watching you and listening to whatever you say. The TSA is setting up "internal checkpoints" all over the nation, Homeland Security is encouraging all of us to report any "suspicious activity" that our neighbors are involved in and the federal government is rapidly developing "pre-crime" technology that will flag us as "potential terrorists" if we display any signs of nervousness. If you are flagged as a "potential terrorist", the U.S. military can arrest you and detain you for the rest of your life without ever having to charge you with anything. Yes, the United States of America is rapidly being turned into a "Big Brother" prison grid, and most Americans are happily going along with it.

The sad thing is that this used to be "the land of the free and the home of the brave".

So what in the world happened?

A fundamental shift in our culture has taken place. The American people have eagerly given up huge chunks of liberty and freedom in exchange for vague promises of increased security.

Our country is now run by total control freaks and paranoia has become standard operating procedure.

We were told that the terrorists hate our liberties and our freedoms, and that we needed to fight the terrorists so that we could keep our liberties and our freedoms.

But instead, the government keeps taking away all of our liberties and our freedoms.

How in the world does that make any sense?

Have the terrorists won?

As a country, we have moved so far in the direction of communist China, the USSR and Nazi Germany that it is almost impossible to believe.

Yes, turning the United States of America into a giant prison may make us all slightly safer, but what kind of life is this?

Do we want to be dead while we are still alive?

Is this the price that we want to pay in order to feel slightly safer?

Where are the millions of Americans that still yearn to breathe free air?

America is supposed to be a land teeming with people thirsting for independence. For example, "Live Free or Die" is supposedly the official motto of the state of New Hampshire.

But instead, the motto of most Americans seems to be "live scared and die cowering".

We don't have to live like this.

Yes, bad things are always going to happen. No amount of security is ever going to be able to keep us 100% safe.

We need to remember that a very high price was paid for our liberty and we should not give it up so easily.

As one very famous American once said, when we give up liberty for security we deserve neither.

The following are 30 signs that the United States of America is being turned into a giant prison....

This must be the other reason to deploy troops to countries where they are not in a state of threat.

Thanks for giving us those names, LS. What I see is that there's a majority of Republicans on that list. Not good. Good thing I've changed to Libertarian.... In fact, I'm about to toss that out, too; because the whole political system is due for a major overhaul....

I say scrap and then get a new one.
