Wayne Dyer's 6 ego Beliefs from "The Power of Intention"

I am what I have.
I am what I do.
I am what others think of me.
I am separate from everyone.
I am separate from all that is missing in my life.
I am separate from God.

How are people putting this into practice?

How do we Stop being offended?
How does one let go of our need to win, to be superior, to be right?
Of our need to have more or of identifying ourself on the basis of our achievements.
To let go of our reputation.

Hi Vaughn, I really like Wayne Dyer. That just about sums up the ego :)

The thing about the ego is that it always wants us to be better or be fixed. It's only the ego that needs us to stop being offended, stop being superior, stop being concerned about our reputation etc.

It's either ego or God and God (or Awareness/Consciousness) has no concerns with any of these because it is a pure state of allowing everything just to be.

If we can see our ego and also see our need to improve ourselves is more ego, then we can ask the question, what sees this? what is Aware of this?

These questions shift our attention from our ego, to that which is beyond it which is God/Awareness/Consciousness or whatever we call it. The more we do this, the less attention the ego gets.

Attention is pure energy. When the ego is deprived of attention it has less energy to act out those behaviours.

The ego is defined by its fears. Fears feed the illusion of separation:

Hey Pathwalker,
I love that diagram, ...i'm so visual anyways....hey you got one for love? Would be fun to do it with imagery [the love one I mean] tks.

Jenci, great perspectives about attention, and of course it dovetails into your other comments from John Bernie, I subscribed to his YouTube channel ..that was a good one. Like any predicament, ya first gotta recognize it, step back. Like when Eckhart says: take a deep breath. I do that even at a stop light and I can feel the tension float away, my hands grip less, facial taughtness etc.

One of my little querks is walking too fast, I'm getting better though, especially as the years progress.http://projectavalon.net/forum4/images/icons/icon11.png

Hi Vaughn

I relate to that. Sometimes I will just stop mid-sentence. It's like the ego gets to start the sentence but once it is spotted, it gets no more energy to finish. It can be quite amusing.

Jon Bernie calls it 'energy mangagement' rather than spiritual practice. These days I find being in the body very restrictive and I am very aware of when the ego is playing out because I feel the tightness and constriction. When the energy starts flowing again, it's just space and just feels natural.

Good One, as Steve Martin says, in "The Pink Panther".
Ya, Jenci you know when it's right don't we? kinda a warm fuzzy, lol.

I've had a great few days, just flew up to Seattle, great views of the volcanoes very clear.
Had a wonderful interview with some nice guys at Microsoft.
Weather has been cool, but clear and very Christmas like. I'm just goin with the flow....let it be.

How often do we question what our minds are seeking?

How often do we listen only first thought of the mind without questioning?

"I must maintain my reputation" the mind says, so we try to do that.

But do we question what that means?

Where do I find my reputation?

Is it to be found in me?

No,...... so where is it to be found?

Well my reputation is what other people think of me, so it is only to be found in other people.

So how do I maintain something which is only found in other people?

When we can see that the need to maintain our reputation is actually something unattainable, then we can see the illusion that the mind (ego) has created.

So now I don't need to maintain my reputation, I am feeling the space again.

I may even ask the question, if I can see that the mind is the illusion, what is seeing the mind?

Sounds lovely where you are, Vaughn. I know........ because I am here now too :)

Cool, i bet this could go on infinitely, but this is a good starting point. what is the kinda of love when you care for an animal, or you're enraptured by nature, the stars etc.?
