Erm, what an idiot.
I have no idea what the age of criminal responsibility is in that area, but I bet six is well below it.
The courts should have seen that it was a frivolous, vexatious or abuse of process prosecution and thrown it, as well as sanctioning the idiots that prosecuted it.

Children role play all the time. They play house because they see what mom does around the house. They play teacher because they've seen what teachers do. They play cowboys and Indians, racecar drivers, firemen, doctors, mailmen... They'll play anything that they think will be fun. They're imitating adults.... What's the big deal?
But I agree that it should have been handled by the parents. Now the kids will be scarred for life because what they did was considered BAD. No future doctors in this trio....

We would have had my whole neighboroud condemned 40 years ago, we were all playing doctor in the neighbor's barn, knowing in the catholic church that it was a sin, but we could not refrain from checking the differences. I can imagine all of us in court, we would not have known what was happening to us. Instead we went to confess to the priest, lucky he was not a pervert himself.
I still laugh at the memory. It was rather helpful than harmful imho.

Obviously it is against the law, but things like this should not be what our courts are wasting their times with. This should be up to the parents to handle, if the parents neglect to handle this thing then social services should handle it.

It isn't against the law for six year olds.

I'm still playing doctor, but using holistic medicine.

Also, note that the article mentioned that the plaintiff was touched by one of the other kids, as well...but that said other child wasn't prosecuted because (drum-roll please) he's the son of a prominent county official. This whole thing disgusts me. In no way should a 6 year old EVER be a prosecuted in a court of law.

They can't be if they are below the age of criminal responsibility.

6 yr olds playing doctor is not against the law. It is normal human behaviour (besides its fun!). If parents don't like what happens to their kid's when they're not watching, buck up and do a better job then and stop complaining.

Even though that's what the letter of the law says, tell that to the DA that brought charges against him. :p Just because they can't do it, doesn't mean they won't.

Oh, I know that from my own experiences.
I have seen things done that can't be done.

It's things like this (among a vast array of other issues) that make me glad that I'm not skiddish about becoming an expat.
off topic: I tried out the new Star Wars online game that's due to come out soon, I thought of you as I hacked your Sith Lords to bits, Sid. :becky:

On topic: I've read a few other shocking stories today, one about how the cops were called in b/c a little girl kissed a little boy in gym class. They called it sexual assault. Wut. My brainmeats hurt.

There was a big discussion about this case last week on the local radio talk show. The little girl told her parents that nothing bad happened. From what I understand, there's a lot more going on. The girl's parents supposedly have a lot of clout in their area and are using all of their connections to ruin the little boy's family. I'll try to find that info and post it.

All I can say ....if it was a sex crime to play doctor, post office, etc....when I was 4, 5 or 6 years old. Then I, along with most of the other kids in my generation, are going to prison.
The world is completely going insane when I hear of kids 6 years old getting charged. WHat ever happened to mom and dad beating the kids ass for it?

Say shamanseeker, I believe 1% of the world has gone mad. Don't beat yourself or the rest of the 99% for the foolishness of the few.

Things in this "reality" are getting more and more absurd with each passing day.
6 year old gets charged for playing doctor, meanwhile fully grown adults grope little children in plain public view and get away with it.
Not one of the TSA adults were charged with anything, yet this poor kid is going to have to deal with the crazy system at such a young age.
I can only laugh at the absurdity of it all.
Yes, the matrix is falling apart. Gone is the subtlety.
It's saturday morning cartoons in real life. Whatever you call "real" I mean.

Most of the reporting is done in a way to wind you up.
It is done to provoke feelings of despair and helplessness among the readers.

Very true.
I realised that a while back and never watched the news on tv or bought a paper since.

This is so stupid and dumb, if the 6 year old is being held for playing Doctor, what about the rest 2 and by the way its not an age to be sexual and all. Kids at that age feel disgusted by even such a thought. This is so sad.

Hi JRS,
Yes, you're right but I'm not beating myself up at all. Maybe, I should have said that the establishment or the authorities have gone mad because they are getting away with doing these things now.
Best wishes

You're absolutely right, I read the original article wrong. What they should be charging these kids with is, practicing without a license. :P

http://reason.com/blog/2011/11/23/parents-sue-da-for-charging-their-6-year
Last week the parents of a Wisconsin boy sued Grant County District Attorney Lisa Riniker for charging their son with first-degree sexual assault, a Class B felony, after he played "butt doctor" with a 5-year-old girl. He was 6 at the time. When the boy's lawyer tried to have the charge dismissed, Riniker replied: "The legislature could have put an age restriction in the statute if it wanted to. The legislature did no such thing."
According to the complaint (PDF), the girl is "the daughter of a well-known political figure in Grant County," and her brother, who is the same age, also was involved in playing doctor but was not charged. In addition to Riniker, the lawsuit names as defendants retired Grant County Sheriff's Sgt. James Kopp and Jan Moravits, an investigator with Grant County Social Services "whose regional supervisor...is the political figure's wife's sister-in-law"—i.e., the aunt of the alleged victim.
Although the boy, now 7, is too young to be prosecuted or named in a juvenile delinquency petitition, Madison.com reports, county officials are using the felony charge to force his parents into accepting "protection or services" for him. The lawsuit says that once he turns 18, he will be listed as a sex offender.
In addition to using their political ties to ruin this boy's family, they have also made it publically known that the boy has ADD and developmental issues. Regardless anything comes of the lawsuit, the girl's family has destroyed his life.

'butt doctor'? What actually happened? Anyone know, not that I care for specifics, but when it comes down to charging a 6yo with a felony I think specifics are necessary.
