A Trio Of Bright Planets Line Up Before Dawn : Jupiter, Saturn Join The Crescent Moon

Jupiter, Saturn, and Venus form a straight line above the southeastern to southern horizon before dawn. Of the three planets, Venus and Jupiter are the two brightest. you can also see the bright star Antares, which sits slightly below to the west of Jupiter. The red supergiant star is one of the brightest stars in the entire night sky.

On March 27 to 29 the moon will pass by Jupiter and Saturn in the predawn/dawn sky. The waning crescent moon will pair up with brilliant Jupiter at dawn on the 27th. The duo will fit within the field of view of binoculars. Jupiter ranks as the 4th-brightest celestial object in all the heavens, after the sun, moon and Venus. Even low-power binoculars will reveal the gas giant’s four main moons, also known as the Galilean moons.

On the 29th, look for yellow-colored Saturn perched above the right of the moon halfway up the southeastern sky at dawn. If you have one, don’t forget to train your telescope on the gas giant and bring its famous rings into view.

A new immersive, 360-degree, ultra-high-definition visualization allows viewers to view the center of our Galaxy as if they were sitting in the position of the Milky Way’s supermassive black hole (Sgr A*). By combining supercomputer simulations with Chandra data, the visualization shows the effects of dozens of massive stellar giants with fierce winds blowing off their surfaces in the region covering a few light years surrounding Sgr A*. Blue and cyan represent X-ray emission from hot gas with temperatures of tens of millions of degrees, while the red emission shows ultraviolet emission from moderately dense regions of cooler gas with temperatures of tens of thousands of degrees, and yellow shows the cooler gas with the highest densities.

Images taken by the Hubble Space Telescope document the formation of a Great Dark Spot on Neptune for the first time, report researchers in a new study.

Like Jupiter's Great Red Spot, Neptune's Great Dark Spots are storms that form from areas of high atmospheric pressure. In contrast, storms on Earth form around areas of low pressure.

Scientists have seen a total of six dark spots on Neptune over the years. Voyager 2 identified two storms in 1989. Since Hubble launched in 1990, it has viewed four more of these storms.

In the new study, planetary scientists analyzed Hubble's photos of the ice giant taken over the past several years and chronicled the growth of a new Great Dark Spot that became visible in 2018.

Barry was born somewhat awake with fragmented past life memories, and began having paranormal experiences at a very young age. These experiences included telepathic awareness, sometimes seeing or feeling Ghosts, and various Inorganic Beings. Some of these encounters, and the entities themselves had a distinct extraterrestrial origin. These unusual encounters led Barry to do a lifetime of research, and exploration into both the metaphysical, and paranormal fields.
Barry had an education majoring in Psychology, Sociology, & Ethnic Studies, from Wichita State University. For the last 22 years I’ve worked with At Risk Youth, & Juvenile Offenders, through utilizing the cognitive behavioral approach.
In 2010 Barry had a near terminal car accident resulting in sustaining 4 Catastrophic Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI), along with a very definite Near Death Experience (NDE). This event was life changing; it was predicted that his condition would remain in a near vegetable state. It was cognitively surviving this catastrophic event that spurred him to come forward about contact, and paranormal experiences.

Dr. Franck Marchis is a Senior Scientist and Exoplanet Research Thrust Chair at the SETI Institute and Chief Scientific Officer at Unistellar. Marchis earned his PhD in Astrophysics at the Université Paul Sabatier, France, in 2000. He is a planetary astronomer with 22 years of experience in academic, international and non-profit scientific institutions and has conducted multiple research projects in a wide range of areas. He is best known for his discovery and characterization of multiple asteroids, his study of Io volcanism and imaging of exoplanets, planets around other stars. In April 2007, the asteroid numbered 1989SO8 was named “(6639) Marchis” in honor of his work in the field of multiple asteroids.

In only two decades, scientists have gone from the mere speculation about exoplanets to being able to observe them through a variety of methods. Future instruments could soon deliver an image of a cousin of Earth, or another Pale Blue Dot, a planet similar to our own. Rare Transit Of Mercury Across The Sun

Mercury transits occur just 13 times per century, on average. They're so rare because the innermost planet's orbit is inclined by about 7 degrees compared to that of Earth, so Mercury, the sun and our home planet just don't line up all that often.

Mark your calendar!
Mercury will cross the sun's face from Earth's perspective on Monday (November11, 2019) in the first such "transit" since 2016.
The next one won't occur until Nov. 13, 2032. This is an unusual event, not to be missed.

The rare transit begins at 12:35 UT (7:35 am EST) and lasts for almost six hours. Mercury's tiny disk—jet black and perfectly round—will glide slowly across the face of the sun.

People in every continent except Australia can see at least a portion of the crossing. In the USA, the best place to be is on the Atlantic coast, where the entire transit is visible. On the Pacific coast the transit will already be in progress at sunrise.

Warning! Mercury covers only a tiny fraction of the sun's surface, so staring at the sun remains just as painful and dangerous as ever. But with a proper filter, the Transit of Mercury can be a marvelous experience.

Exoplanet Satellite Ready

ESA's Characterising Exoplanet Satellite, Cheops, was recently declared ready to fly after completing a series of final spacecraft tests.

Cheops will lift off as a secondary passenger on a Soyuz-Fregat rocket launching from Europe's Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana. The satellite will be stored at the Airbus Defence and Space facility in Madrid for a few months before being shipped to the launch site, targeting the launch time slot between 15 October and 14 November in 2019.

Steve Ward has been fascinated by the unexplained for over half a century. There were two events that had a major influence on Steve and set a course for his future path. Growing up in Michigan, the March 1966 UFO flap occurred virtually in his backyard. The best, however was yet to come. The following November a winged humanoid chased two couples down a lonely country road near Point Pleasant, West Virginia, and the legend of the Mothman was born. In a way, Steve would be chasing the Mothman the rest of his life. Influenced by John Keel and Jacques Vallee, his views on UFOs became unconventional and moved more toward a paranormal explanation. While in Europe in 1973 he stood at the foot of Stonehenge & on the shores of Loch Ness. In 1976 he attended the MUFON Symposium in Ann Arbor, Michigan and met such major figures as Ray Stanford and J. Allen Hynek. He was also able to interview Gray Barker of Saucerian Publications who was one of the attendees at the symposium. In 1977, he made his first visit to Point Pleasant, after having read "The Mothman Prophecies" by John Keel. In 1980 he joined the Navy and served aboard the USS Billfish, a nuclear fast attack submarine. Since 2006 he has been involved in the Mothman Festival, both behind the scenes and as a tour guide in the TNT area where the Mothman was first seen. He has spoken at the Mothman Festival for the last two years. Steve's main area of research is, what some call "high strangeness" or "window areas" (as Keel dubbed them) where disparate types of paranormal phenomena all seem to occur in the same location, and that studying these paranormally active locations may be the key to understanding what the source behind the manifestations may be. He is involved with the Roads Beyond the Known web series & is a correspondent on Mack Maloney's Military X- Files Radio Show. He has also just started his own show, "The High Strangeness Factor" that can be heard on Paranormal UK Radio.

Have you ever asked “what is beyond the edge of the universe?” And have you ever been told that an infinite universe that has no edge? You were told wrong. In a sense. We can define a boundary to an infinite universe, at least mathematically. And it turns out that boundary may be as real or even more real than the universe it contains.

Our universe may be infinite. In order to wrap our puny human minds around such a notion we like to come up with boundaries. For example we have the “observable universe” – that patch that we can see, and beyond which light has not yet had time to reach us. It’s boundary is called the particle horizon. Beyond it there exists at a minimum of thousands and possibly infinitely more regions just as large. Our observable universe is like a tiny patch of land in a vast plain. We define its horizon like we might build a little picket fence around our little patch – meaningless from the point of view of the plain, but it makes our patch feel more homey and us less crushingly insignificant.

His performance rating in January 2005 from Captain J.L. Smith of the USS Princeton indicated that he “greatly exceeded standards”. The Captain made the comment on the rating document, which is available later in this appendix: “He is my number #1 SCPO [Senior Chief Petty Officer]! A recognized expert in Air Defense, his impact within the Nimitz Strike Group has been phenomenal.” The Senior Chief Day has 18 years of service at sea on Aegis radar systems and his medals included the Meritorious Service Medal and the Navy/Marine Corp Commendation Medal. He was also a Top Gun graduate for Strike-Fighter Tactics. He had seven deployments to the Middle East and has completed hundreds of air intercepts. A copy of these documents is available later in this appendix.
This extended commentary is noted because it is important to understand the level of competence and the capabilities of Senior Chief Day. In civilian life he has earned a degree in Business Administration and a Master Degree in Education. Kevin Day was first interviewed by Robert Powell on January 15, 2018. He indicated that he had not been interviewed by anyone else prior to that date. Mr. Day indicated that he had made notes of the November 14, 2004 event and was operating with his notes during the interview. Beginning in May of 2018 Mr. Day made several public interviews and became active on a Facebook chat site. Some of his comments are regarding topics to which he did not have first hand knowledge and may have been picked up from things either he read on Facebook sites or heard from others or just changes to memory. It is not the intent of this report to look for every inconsistency in a witness’s testimony but instead to look for consistencies between witnesses and draw a conclusion as to what actually occurred. It is believed the most accurate recounting of the Senior Chief’s experience was his original interview on January 15 with Mr. Powell.

Although not an interview, prior to his January 15th statements Mr. Day did make a posting on an internet forum known as Open Minds in December of 2010.

The details that he provided are very similar to the interview conducted on January 15. There are some statements made that are different such as a statement that the “Tic-Tac” entered the water or that the video was taken on a HUD display rather than a ATFLIR. But as a whole, Mr. Day’s basic story has been consistent and in combination with statements from other witnesses allows the critical portions of this event to be pieced together.

Kevin Day’s experience with this incident did affect him emotionally and his emotions are evident in his voice during the January 15 interview. The fact that this event had such an impact on Mr. Day, and that there are also multiple witnesses, only strengthens the argument that these witnesses experienced an extraordinary event. Nonetheless, the emotional impact on Mr. Day requires us to look for corroborating evidence on the details that he has recounted. This has been done and the critical facts recounted by Mr. Day are supported by other witnesses.

NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite, TESS, has discovered its first Earth-sized exoplanet. The planet, named HD 21749c, is the smallest world outside our solar system that TESS has identified yet.

In a paper published today in the journal Astrophysical Journal Letters, an MIT-led team of astronomers reports that the new planet orbits the star HD 21749 — a very nearby star, just 52 light years from Earth. The star also hosts a second planet — HD 21749b — a warm “sub-Neptune” with a longer, 36-day orbit, which the team reported previously and now details further in the current paper.

A bright blast of X-rays from a source in a distant galaxy has led astronomers to a fascinating discovery. Neutron stars are dense stellar objects that contain extreme physical conditions that are impossible to replicate on Earth.
Occasionally, they can merge with each other. Until now, every neutron star merger seen has been followed by a flash of gamma rays. This new source, dubbed XT2, is different. Scientists saw it changing in X-rays in Chandra data from 2015. By comparing the Chandra observations to theoretical models, researchers identified XT2 as a neutron star merger. This new finding will help astronomers learn more about the interior of neutron stars and give them a new method for finding mergers between them.

A bright burst of X-rays has been discovered by NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory in a galaxy 6.6 billion light years from Earth. This event likely signaled the merger of two neutron stars and could give astronomers fresh insight into how neutron stars — dense stellar objects packed mainly with neutrons — are built.

When two neutron stars merge they produce jets of high energy particles and radiation fired in opposite directions. If the jet is pointed along the line of sight to the Earth, a flash, or burst, of gamma rays can be detected. If the jet is not pointed in our direction, a different signal is needed to identify the merger.

The detection of gravitational waves — ripples in spacetime — is one such signal. Now, with the observation of a bright flare of X-rays, astronomers have found another signal, and discovered that two neutron stars likely merged to form a new, heavier and fast-spinning neutron star with an extraordinarily strong magnetic field.

Chandra observed the source, dubbed XT2, as it suddenly appeared and then faded away after about seven hours. The source is located in the Chandra Deep Field-South, the deepest X-ray image ever taken that contains almost 12 weeks of Chandra observing time, taken at various intervals over several years. The source appeared on March 22nd, 2015 and was discovered later in analysis of archival data.

This result is important because it gives astronomers a chance to learn about the interior of neutron stars, objects that are so dense that their properties could never be replicated on Earth.

The densely packed starfields at our galaxy's center are hidden behind dust clouds and only become visible in infrared light. In the near-infrared they begin to appear, but are reddened for much the same reason that sunlight turns red when filtered through a smoky cloud. The dense dust clouds begin to stand out at longer infrared wavelengths, taking on changing rainbows of color depending on which parts of the spectrum contribute to the image. The very coldest, densest dust will only start to glow at the very longest wavelengths of light, rendered in red in the far-infrared image in this sequence.

Far-infrared: At these long infrared wavelengths, the hottest dust glows blue, while the coldest is red.

Mid-infrared: Some of the hottest dust clouds begin to glow as one looks deeper into the infrared spectrum.

Near-infrared: The myriad stars and shadows caused by dust clouds are more vivid at shorter wavelengths of light.

ABOUT THE INFRARED UNIVERSE COLLECTION
The human eye can only see visible light, but objects give off a variety of wavelengths of light. To see an object as it truly exists, we would ideally look at its appearance through the full range of the electromagnetic spectrum. Telescopes show us objects as they appear emitting different energies of light, with each wavelength conveying unique information about the object. The Webb Space Telescope will study infrared light from celestial objects with much greater clarity and sensitivity than ever before.

One of the most exciting and interdisciplinary frontiers in exoplanet science is the search for habitable planets and life beyond the solar system. Recently discovered planets, especially Earth-sized planets orbiting nearby M dwarfs, will provide intriguing near-term targets for large ground-based telescopes and the James Webb Space Telescope, while even larger telescopes are planned to directly image and explore the environments of worlds around stars like our Sun. These telescopes may detect signs of habitability and its loss, as well as biosignatures—planetary features that suggest a biological origin. However, our ability to accurately interpret these features will depend on our understanding of planetary evolution and processes, and environmental context. This talk will provide an overview of the path to terrestrial exoplanet characterization, describing interdisciplinary research by NASA’s Virtual Planetary Laboratory team to understand how to identify habitable planets, and discriminate true biosignatures from planetary processes, while presenting the prospects for terrestrial exoplanet characterization and life detection with JWST and other future telescopes.

Prof. Knuth is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics at the University at Albany (SUNY), and is the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Entropy (MDPI). He is a former NASA research scientist having worked for four years at NASA Ames Research Center in the Intelligent Systems Division designing artificial intelligence algorithms for astrophysical data analysis. He has over 20 years of experience in applying Bayesian and maximum entropy methods to the design of machine learning algorithms for data analysis applied to the physical sciences. His current research interests include the foundations of physics, quantum information, inference and inquiry, autonomous robotics, and the search for and characterization of extrasolar planets. He has published over 90 peer-reviewed publications and has been invited to give over 80 presentations in 14 countries.

A sufficiently technologically advanced society capable of arbitrarily fast sub-light travel could take advantage of relativistic effects to traverse the galaxy in a matter of weeks to days proper time (ship time). However, for those that stay at home tens of thousands of years will have transpired during the journey as the effects of the twin `paradox' apply. For this reason, interstellar travellers would necessarily form a breakaway society in which all members travel regularly at relativistic speeds moving into the future at commensurate rates. Such a society would be nomadic in space-time forgoing a permanent home world, which would require them to set up supply routes to obtain resources and to coordinate meet-up points and times to interact and exchange goods and information with fellow travellers. Kevin will discuss some of the basic constraints that interstellar travel would place on such a society. Kevin will also consider how the arrangement of travel routes would affect the flow of supplies and information, across the societal network. A range of accelerations of spacecraft will be considered, informed, in part, by inferred accelerations of unidentified structured craft (USC) observed on Earth. Ships travelling at accelerations of a comfortable 1g would be able to traverse the galaxy in about 20 years. Ships travelling at higher accelerations of 100g (still less than what is inferred from eyewitness reports) would traverse the galaxy in about 120 days, less time than it currently takes us to get to Mars. There are serious implications for the Fermi Paradox since at any point in time, it is far more likely that any given ship will be traveling to its next destination. The many serious engineering challenges will not be addressed in this presentation.

It's about to happen again.

Ground-based neutron monitors and high-altitude cosmic ray balloons are registering a new increase in cosmic rays. The Oulu neutron monitor in Finland, which has been making measurements since 1964, reports levels in April 2019 only percentage points below the Space Age maximum of 2009.

The huge, red star Betelgeuse, which marks the hunter's shoulder in the constellation Orion, may have swallowed up a companion star not long ago, a study suggests.

Such an enormous star should be spinning slowly, since rotation rate decreases as size increases. (Think about how ice-skaters control their spin speed by bringing their arms in close to their body or extending them.) But that's not the case with Betelgeuse, which is rotating at a blazing 33,500 mph (53,900 km/h), astronomers said.

In early 2012, Gary was a guest on the Behind the Paranormal radio show with hosts Paul and Ben Eno, along with guests Jim Penniston and John Burroughs.

Gary has written two books with former "co-author" Philip Gardiner - The Serpent Grail 2005 and The Shining Ones (released August, 2006). Gary's ideas and theories were first presented in The Serpent Grail, by which he was able to present a fresh new interpretation of the Grail (the three levels) and also properly define the mystery of the 'Philosopher's Stone', and all in terms of cyclical phenomena and what our physicist's know today as 'zero-point energy’. His own contributions comprise the first half of the book.

In 2009 Gary began work on a book project with author Scott Creighton, and between them they co-authored a radical and groundbreaking book about the true purpose of the pyramids of Giza, 'The Giza Prophecy'. The foreword was kindly written by best-selling author, Graham Hancock, and was released in the USA and Canada, January 2012, and in the UK, 1st February 2012.
Gary has written a series of articles for both Mindscape and Heretic Magazines of which he is a regular contributor, and also New Dawn magazine with Scott Creighton.

Gary has appeared on BBC Radio Nottingham and also The James Whale Show Talk Sport, and has also presented 'The Serpent Grail' in a series of lectures - appearing at The Theosophical Society in London, QuestCon 05, organized every year by friend and fellow author Andrew Collins, and also BUFORA (British UFO Research Association). Gary has been a guest on Whitley Strieber’s Dreamland Radio show Revelations with host William Henry, also Behind the Paranormal with hosts Paul and Ben Eno, and also Coast to Coast AM with host George Noory. He has been 'Author of the Month' twice on the Graham Hancock Website to promote the books The Serpent Grail (2005) and The Giza Prophecy. (2012).

Gary's work has been featured on the Great Pyramid of Giza Research Association Website and also Sub Rosa Magazine and Hera - an Italian magazine.

We’ve been failing to detect dark matter for decades. Finally, the latest failure to detect dark matter may have actually proved its existence. One of these is true: either most of the matter in the universe is invisible and formed of something not explained by modern particle physics OR our understanding of gravity is completely broken. The debate over which is true has raged for decades, but may finally have been resolved in an unlikely way: the proof that dark matter exists, and really is an exotic, unknown substance, may have come from the discovery of two galaxies that appear to have no dark matter at all.

The effect of dark matter was first noticed in 1933, when the legendary Swiss astrophysicist Fritz Zwicky noticed that the galaxies in the Coma cluster were moving too quickly to remain gravitationally bound within that cluster. He guessed the presence of “dunkle m aterie” – a dark matter invisible to his telescope but whose gravitational effect held the cluster together. As with many of Zwicky’s predictions – like the existence of neutron stars and gravitational lensing - this wasn’t taken seriously until decades later. The hunt for dark matter began in earnest after the early 70s when Vera Ruben, discovered that the rotation rates of spiral galaxies were too fast given the mass of their visible stars alone. They should throw themselves to pieces spinning that quickly – that is, unless, a gravitational force of unseen origin was holding them together.

A very rare gravitational lensing event, set to occur in 2028, has been predicted by a team of French astronomers led by Pierre Kervella of the CNRS/Universidad de Chile. It will provide an ideal opportunity to look for evidence of a planet around a nearby star.

Using both new and archive data obtained with a range of ESO telescopes, the team has predicted the trajectories of the fast-moving stellar duo known as the Alpha Centauri A and B, with negligible error. That has allowed them to predict every close alignment until 2050 between the Alpha Centauri pair and the stars which lie close to them on the sky—but which are in fact a great deal further away in space.

One of the most exciting alignments predicted by this study is between the more massive star in the Alpha Centauri pair, named Alpha Centauri A, and a distant background star—probably a red giant—nicknamed S5. In May 2028, there is a strong chance that the light from S5 will create an Einstein ring around Alpha Centauri A, observable with ESO's telescopes. This would provide a unique opportunity to look for planetary or low-mass objects in our nearest star system.

Nitin has always been interested in music as a language to explore many different subjects, and he has frequently described his musical journey as a passport to possibility. His strong interest in physics drew him to a collaboration with SLAC, where he was particularly enchanted, mesmerized and fascinated by the simulations of dark matter and ionizing gas. His talk included the screening of the two short movies in 2D and a conversation with Risa Wechsler, Director, Kavli Institute for Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology.

A large double asteroid is now approaching Earth’s vicinity and will pass by Earth safely on May 25, 2019. Closest approach is at 23:05 UTC (7:05 p.m. EDT) on May 25.

Asteroid (66391) 1999 KW4 consists of a primary space rock just under a mile wide (about 1.5 km), with a 0.3-mile (0.5-km) companion asteroid – an asteroid moon – orbiting the main asteroid. The asteroid and its moon will provide a good opportunity for both professional and amateur astronomers to observe the huge space rock. Amateur astronomers will be able to observe it for a few days around May 25.

He is a member of the technical staff at 4M Research in Huntsville, Alabama. He has been a faculty member at the Space Institute, and has worked at Arnold Engineering Development Center, near Tullahoma, Tennessee; Teledyne Brown Engineering, in Huntsville; BAE Systems, in Huntsville; Analytical Services, in Huntsville; and Davidson Technologies, in Huntsville. He has taught graduate courses in subjects ranging from astrophysics to nuclear engineering. His specialties are space trajectories, attitude dynamics, space propulsion, and numerical analysis, but he has worked in areas as diverse as hypersonic aircraft, gravitational fields, ion beams, nuclear fusion, and interstellar flight. He is writing three textbooks: one on orbital mechanics, one on nuclear rockets, and one on numerical analysis.

We present a generalized optimization analysis for interstellar propulsion systems. There is an optimum exhaust velocity and an optimum initial acceleration for a given mission. The optimum exhaust velocity increases with increasing distance and propulsion system power/mass ratio, but for flight between neighboring stars, it does not exceed values that can be delivered by thermonuclear propulsion systems unless power/mass ratios exceed ~ 0.5 Mw/kg. The penalty for lower-than-optimum exhaust velocity is relatively small, and there is a point beyond which increasing the power/mass ratio for a fixed exhaust velocity does not do much good. Trip times around 40 years should be attainable.

We do not speculate about propulsion systems outside the limits of clearly-foreseeable technology. Only a fool would doubt that technologies that we cannot imagine will be developed in the ages to come, and that older races possess such technologies (although many distinguished fools have done just that), but it is our purpose here to ascertain what we are sure can be done.

Asteroid Apophis To Buzz Earth On Friday The 13th April 2029

1,100-foot-wide (340-meter-wide) near-Earth asteroid 99942 Apophis will safely flyby Earth on April 13, 2029. At closest approach it will be about 19,000 miles (31,000 kilometers) above Earth's surface, within satellite orbits.
