Space News | Ev Cochrane: Did Ancient Man See A Different Sun?

Published 1st November 2019

The parent star of planet Earth holds a strange and special place in countless ancient traditions around the world. The celestial body identified as the Sun in myth, religion, ancient astronomies and rock art routinely bears no resemblance at all to our familiar Sun.

For decades, comparative mythologist Ev Cochrane, as well as his colleague Dave Talbott have worked to reconstruct the natural events that produced extraordinary mythical patterns. It is their conclusion that in the relatively recent past, in the era of pre-history, a period of instability in the inner solar system brought planets within close proximity to planet Earth. In this episode, Ev begins our investigation of the question, did ancient man observe a different Sun than our Sun today?

While much of the world is burning, including California, record cold temperatures are scheduled for large swaths of the US. More and more in the science community are warning against the dangers of climate engineering while failing to admit geoengineering programs have been deployed for over 70 years. Global economies are unraveling in parallel with the biosphere, how much longer can the manufactured political theater distract populations from all that is unfolding?
Those in power are doing their best to maintain the public's normalcy bias until the very last moment. It is imperative to wake populations before the power structure is ready for that to happen.

China Launches First Sub-meter Class Satellite Into Space

Published 3rd November 2019

China's first sub-meter high-resolution optical transmission stereo mapping satellite Gaofen-7 was successfully launched at the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in the northern province of Shanxi. Compared with ordinary optical remote sensing satellites, Gaofen-7 can draw three-dimensional images, meaning that all the buildings in the world will be a series of three-dimensional models once it is put into use. The successful launch means that the status quo of the high-resolution stereo remote sensing image market relying heavily on foreign satellites will be broken, leading China into a new era of independent large-scale space mapping.

How China Built A Single-Photon Detector That Works In Space

Published 2nd November 2019

https://cdn.technologyreview.com/i/images/dark-count-rates.png

One of the emerging uses for single photons is to pack them with quantum information and send them to another location. This technique, known as quantum communication, exploits the laws of physics to make sure the information cannot be read by any eavesdropper.

One challenge is to find ways to send this quantum information around the world. That’s difficult because the information is fragile—any interaction between the photons and their environment destroys it. Photons cannot travel more than a hundred kilometers or so through the atmosphere or through optical fibers without the quantum information they carry being destroyed.

Also stay updated on MIT Technology Review initiatives and events?YesNo
So Chinese physicists have come up with a workaround: beam the photons to an orbiting satellite, which relays them to another location on Earth’s surface. In this way, the uncomfortable passage through the atmosphere can be minimized. If photons are transmitted from ground stations at high altitude, their journey is mostly through the vacuum of empty space.

This Indestructible NASA Camera Revealed Hidden Patterns On Jupiter

Published 4th November 2019

https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/2naMdzhUPCjCapxuCEUaT6-650-80.jpg

NASA engineers launched a camera at Jupiter’s poles for the first time and what it imaged surprised everyone.

To capture hidden regions on Jupiter, engineers had to build a nearly indestructible digital camera that could survive one of the harshest environments in the entire solar system.

The result was the closest image ever taken of the Great Red Spot, and it was captured by JunoCam, a deceptively small digital camera aboard a NASA probe.

The NASA probe along with JunoCam launched in 2011 and has been orbiting Jupiter since 2016 with the goal of sharing previously unseen regions of the planet and connecting humanity with its celestial neighbor.

Find out more about the complexities of JunoCam, how it has shaken up conventional wisdom around what Jupiter looks like, and more on this episode of Focal Point.

The earliest photographs from the late 1800s and early 1990s showed a grainy, gray sphere.”

NASA's Voyager 2 Finds New Mysteries At The Edge Of The Solar System

Published 4th November 2019

https://wstale.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/ccelebrities1200070.jpg

If you've ever felt like you're having an incredibly long day at work, spare a thought for NASA's Voyager probes. Launched in 1977, Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 have been traveling through space, revealing the secrets of the solar system, for the last 42 years. In all that time, they've beamed back tons of data about our place in the universe. Their journey has taken both probes beyond the reach of the farthest (dwarf) planet and into interstellar space: Voyager 1 departed in 2012, and in November last year, Voyager 2 followed.

"This has really been a wonderful journey," said Ed Stone, a chief scientist on the Voyager mission and author of a new paper, in a press briefing. "It began with the launch of two spacecraft in 1977 to explore Jupiter and Saturn, and everything after that has been step-wise as our journey has extended deeper and deeper into space."

Asteroid 2019 UN13 Just Missed Hitting Earth

Published 3rd November 2019

https://en.es-static.us/upl/2016/02/asteroid-earth-sq-e1572621856332.jpg

A newly discovered asteroid designated 2019 UN13 flew past Earth at an extremely close distance of just 0.03 LD. The asteroid was discovered early October 31 at Catalina Sky Survey, Arizona, just several hours before its close approach.

The space rock passed above southern Africa within 3,852 miles (6,200 km) at 13:45 UTC (9:45 a.m. EDT). To get an idea of how close this is, consider that many telecommunications satellites orbit at an altitude of 22,236 miles (35,786 km).

The asteroid flew past us at a speed of nearly 27,000 mph (43,452 kph) and is likely only between 2 and 7 meters in diameter. Its trajectory was heavily influenced by Earth's gravity, sending its aphelion out to the asteroid belt between Jupiter and Mars.

Taurid Meteor Shower 2019

Published 4th November 2019

Right now the Earth is passing through a broad stream of debris left by Comet Encke. The dust associated with the comet hits the Earth’s atmosphere at 65,000 mph and burns up, creating the Taurid meteor shower.

The annual Taurid meteor shower is going on right now. Skywatchers should not be surprised if they see a bright meteor or fireball over the next two weeks. The best time to look for Taurids is after midnight, when Taurus is high in the sky, and when the sky is dark and clear.

Given the behavior of past Taurid swarms, increased fireball activity may be seen during the first two weeks of November.

November 6, 2019 is the peak date of the South Taurid meteor shower. The Northern Taurids are visible before midnight for a week, centered on November 12.

For best meteor viewing experts suggest going to a location away from city lights, dressing warmly, and lie flat on your back and look straight up. No special viewing equipment needed, just your eyes.

Why We Might Be Alone In The Universe

Published 4th November 2019

Why does it appear, that humanity is the lone intelligence in the universe? The answer might be that planet Earth is more unique than we've previously assumed. The rare earth hypothesis posits exactly this - that a range of factors made Earth exceptionally unusual and uniquely able to produce intelligent life.

In upcoming episodes we’ll be exploring the anthropic principle and its two main versions - the strong and the weak anthropic principles. The strong anthropic principle tells us that the observed universe must be able to produce observers - including the contentious idea that this predicts the existence of universes beyond our own. But in today's episode we’re going to focus on the weak anthropic principle. It says that we must find ourselves in a part of the universe capable of supporting us. For example, in a planetary biosphere rather than floating in the void between the galaxies. This may seems tautological, but accounting for this observer selection bias is important to understanding why the universe looks the way it does from our perspective. And the weak anthropic principle is much more useful than that. When combined with the apparent absence of alien civilizations, it may tell us why intelligent life is incredibly rare in our universe.

The US Army has explained more about why it partnered with former Blink-182 singer Tom DeLonge’s UFO research organization to study exotic materials. The Army described it as a “low risk” partnership that is of “significant interest” to the military.

Last month, DeLonge’s To the Stars Academy joined forces with the Army’s Combat Capabilities Development Command, a research and development body. According to the contract, the government is interested in studying some pretty exotic science such as active camouflage, inertial mass reduction, and quantum communication. Even stranger, it turns out that the US government approached To the Stars for this deal.

Near The Center Of The Lagoon Nebula & Spiral Galaxies Spinning Super Fast

In today's image, we see a number of spiral galaxies. These are some of the fastest spinning spiral galaxies known to exist. They spin so fast that they should be torn apart. It is hypothesized that there is a large amount of dark matter in and around these galaxies to hold them together. Since dark matter does not emit any type of light (visible, x-rays, radio waves, etc) we can only see its effects through its gravitational interactions with ordinary matter.

Mercury Transit November 11th 2019: What To Know About Rare Celestial Event

Mercury may be in retrograde, but an even rarer celestial occurrence will happen this month when the first planet in the Solar System passes across the Sun, an event known as Mercury Transit.

The event is slated to occur on Nov. 11 and won't be seen again from Earth until 2032. According to NASA's website, the event can be seen with proper safety equipment from 4:35 a.m. to 10:04 a.m. PST.

"Because Mercury is so small from our perspective on Earth, you'll need binoculars or a telescope with a Sun filter to see it," NASA wrote on its website, adding that the event "only happens about 13 times per century."

How Does Mercury's Orbit Prove General Relativity?

Dive Into TESS's Southern Sky Panorama

Published 5th November 2019

The glow of the Milky Way -- our galaxy seen edgewise -- arcs across a sea of stars in a new mosaic of the southern sky produced from a year of observations by NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). Constructed from 208 TESS images taken during the mission's first year of science operations, completed on July 18, the southern panorama reveals both the beauty of the cosmic landscape and the reach of TESS's cameras.

Within this scene, TESS has discovered 29 exoplanets, or worlds beyond our solar system, and more than 1,000 candidate planets astronomers are now investigating.

TESS divided the southern sky into 13 sectors and imaged each one of them for nearly a month using four cameras, which carry a total of 16 charge-coupled devices (CCDs). Remarkably, the TESS cameras capture a full sector of the sky every 30 minutes as part of its search for exoplanet transits. Transits occur when a planet passes in front of its host star from our perspective, briefly and regularly dimming its light. During the satellite's first year of operations, each of its CCDs captured 15,347 30-minute science images. These images are just a part of more than 20 terabytes of southern sky data TESS has returned, comparable to streaming nearly 6,000 high-definition movies.

In addition to its planet discoveries, TESS has imaged a comet in our solar system, followed the progress of numerous stellar explosions called supernovae, and even caught the flare from a star ripped apart by a supermassive black hole. After completing its southern survey, TESS turned north to begin a year-long study of the northern sky.

Can We Genetically Engineer Humans To Survive Missions To Mars?

Published 7th November 2019

https://data.ibtimes.sg/en/full/29282/tardigrade.png?w=736

Will we one day combine tardigrade DNA with our cells to go to Mars?

Chris Mason, a geneticist and associate professor of physiology and biophysics at Weill Cornell University in New York, has investigated the genetic effects of spaceflight and how humans might overcome these challenges to expand our species farther into the solar system. One of the (strangest) ways that we might protect future astronauts on missions to places like Mars, Mason said, might involve the DNA of tardigrades, tiny micro-animals that can survive the most extreme conditions, even the vacuum of space!

Mason led one of the 10 teams of researchers NASA chose to study twin astronauts Mark and Scott Kelly. After launching in 2015, Scott Kelly spent almost a year aboard the International Space Station while his twin brother, Mark Kelly, stayed back on Earth.

Space Weather News | Solar Cycle 25 Stirs & Mercury Crosses The Sun

Published 7th November 2019

This week the action is all about the Sun! Not only have we had several bright regions grace the Sun's face this past week, but one of them was a sunspot from the upcoming Solar Cycle 25. This sunspot (2750) even fired off a few low-level solar flares before receding beneath the Sun's surface. In addition, we may have yet another Solar Cycle 25 bright region on the Sun's farside as seen by STEREO. However, it will be a few days before this region rotates into Earth-view so we will just have to wait until we can take a closer look. Meanwhile, on November 11, we will have yet another treat passing across the Sun's face and that is the rare transit of Mercury! This passage will coincide with some fast solar wind hitting Earth, so field reporters at high latitudes might be enjoying Mercury's transit by day and an aurora show at night! Learn more about the transit of Mercury like when and where you can watch it, what these new bright regions are all about, and see what else our Sun has in store this week.

Evgenya Shkolnik | Blast From The Past: Ultraviolet Investigations Of Exoplanet Systems And Their Habitability

Published 7th November 2019

Roughly seventy-five billion low-mass stars (a.k.a. M dwarfs) in our galaxy host one or more small planets in the habitable zone (HZ). The stellar ultraviolet (UV) radiation from M dwarfs is strong and highly variable, and impacts planetary atmospheric loss, composition and habitability. In fact, superflares occur daily in their first ~100 Myr, and these effects are amplified by the extreme proximity of their HZs. Understanding the UV environments of M dwarf planets is crucial to understanding atmospheric composition and evolution, and providing context for measured exoplanet spectra. For HZ terrestrial planets, characterization of the UV provides a key parameter in a planet’s potential for habitability as well as for discriminating between biological and abiotic sources of observed biosignatures. Our efforts to study the stellar UV span past, present and future space telescopes: the Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX), the Hubble Space Telescope (HST), and the upcoming NASA-funded Star-Planet Activity Research CubeSat (SPARCS), due for launch at the end of 2021. SPARCS will be a 6U CubeSat completely devoted to continuous photometric monitoring of M stars, measuring their variability, flare rates and evolution, while also being a pathfinder for much-needed future UV missions.

Richard Dolan is one of the world’s leading researchers and writers on the subject of UFOs and believes that they constitute the greatest mystery of our time. He is the author of two volumes of history, UFOs and the National Security State, both ground-breaking works which together provide the most factually complete and accessible narrative of the UFO subject available anywhere. Why Launch Solar Panels When You Can Print Them Directly In Space? Printing Perovskite Panels

Streamed & Published 8th November 2019

Solar energy is the ideal way to power a spacecraft. There’s no weather, there’s no pesky atmosphere, just pure photons streaming from the Sun to harvest for whatever you need. Well, as long as you’re within the inner Solar System.

But solar panels are complicated and fragile made of sensitive electronics and glass - not to mention, really heavy. Any spacecraft equipped with solar panels needs to handle the gravity down here on Earth for the construction and testing, then the shaking and high Gs of launch. The solar panels need to unfold perfectly once they get to space. And the total amount of energy you can harvest is limited by the size of your rocket’s launch fairing.

Maybe there’s a new strategy. NASA is currently funding research into a new type of solar panel that can be carried into space as a liquid and then sprayed onto a surface to turn it into a power generating surface.

Rusty Schweickart | We Must Learn How To ‘Slow Down & Speed Up Asteroids’ To Avoid Fate Of Dinosaurs

Published 8th November 2019

https://cdni.rt.com/files/2019.11/article/5dc577e42030274950140277.jpg

Humanity can very easily learn how to save lives when a destructive asteroid appears – and not by blowing it up or changing its course, the pilot of the 1969 Apollo 9 mission, Rusty Schweickart, has told RT.
“[The asteroids] go around the Sun the same way that the Earth does, but their paths occasionally cross the orbit of the Earth,” Schweickart told RT’s Sophie Shevardnadze.

“And, sooner or later, the Earth and the asteroid will be in the intersection at the same time. It’s just like two cars.”

The famed astronaut co-founded the non-profit B612 Foundation, which advocates for building a global asteroid defense shield. He believes humanity should run a comprehensive asteroid database and focus on creating technology able to spot the incoming cosmic bodies.

The database will also help to calculate their trajectory years before they would be detected as being on collision course with our planet, Schweickart said.

He explained that the next step to deal with the asteroid would be to “to slow it down or speed it up a little bit, using space technology, so that it arrives slightly ahead of the Earth or behind the Earth.”

That’s a deflection. We don’t have to blow it up. We don’t have to change its orbit. We just change its arrival time at that intercept.

The astronaut is confident that the nations of the world can access such technology sometime in the future, if they choose to invest enough money and effort. Impact events are relatively rare but the stakes are still high, he stressed, recalling the Chelyabinsk meteor, which fell from the sky in broad daylight Russia in 2013 and, by sheer luck, didn’t kill anyone.

“There have been mass extinctions in the past. And the impact that wiped out the dinosaurs 64 million years ago wiped out 75 percent of all life that existed,” Schweickart warned.

“So, yes, a city can be destroyed, a continent can be destroyed, and life on the planet can be destroyed. Civilization is very fragile, frankly. So, it doesn’t take much to destroy civilization.”

Artwork Of The Maya Demolishes The Conventional Historical Paradigm

Published 9th November 2019

The artwork of the Maya, in the Dresden Codex and in the relief sculptures found at Bonampak in the modern state of Chiapas in Mexico, demonstrates undeniable connections to artwork from ancient Egypt, ancient Mesopotamia, ancient Greece, ancient India, and elsewhere.

The reason for these astonishing parallels is the fact that the world's ancient myths, scriptures, and sacred stories -- as well as associated artwork -- are built on a common system of celestial metaphor in which characters and events are patterned upon specific constellations, using the same system around the globe and across millennia.

These parallels (along with other evidence) show that the sacred traditions of the Maya are part of an ancient world-wide system, predating even the most ancient civilizations known to or admitted to by conventional academia.

The evidence presented in this video alone is enough to completely demolish the conventional paradigm of human history, and show that the framework we are taught in school (and which is reinforced on the news, in museums and popular books, and in television shows and history-type channels) is gravely flawed and in need of radical revision -- and yet the evidence in this video only just barely begins to scratch the surface of the evidence available in the world's ancient myths (as well as all the archaeological and geological evidence).

November's Spectacular Full Moon Rising

Published 10th November 2019

A Full Moon streaking across the night skies next week will dazzle stargazers all around the globe.

The full Beaver Moon Rising
The Full Moon in November is named after beavers who build their winter dams at this time of year. In ancient times, it was common to track the changing seasons by following the lunar month rather than the solar year, which the 12 months in our modern calendar are based on.

For millennia, people across Europe, as well as Native American tribes, named the months after features they associated with the Northern Hemisphere seasons.

The full moon will reach full phase on Nov. 12th 2019, at 13:34 Universal Time. The Moon will appear full for about three days centered on this time.

On the morning of the full Moon on Nov. 12, 2019, as morning twilight begins, the planet Mars will appear in the east with the bright star Spica appearing to the right of Mars.

On the evening of the full Moon on Nov. 12, 2019, as evening twilight ends, the brightest planet in the sky will be Venus. You can see bright Venus in the west-southwest. Second in brightness, Jupiter, will appear in the southwest. Saturn will appear in the south-southwest.

Over the lunar month the planets Jupiter and Saturn will appear to shift towards the west each evening, while Venus will appear to shift in the opposite direction low along the horizon in the west-southwest. Venus will appear to pass less than 1.5 degrees from Jupiter
on the evenings of Saturday and Sunday, November 23 and 24.

Watch for the young Moon to fly by Jupiter, Venus and Saturn in late November 2019.

As you make your lunar observations, remember that for many thousands of years the cycles of the Moon and Sun were the basis of human timekeeping. Many traditional cultures still rely on these cycles to mark special events.

Alternative Earths – Secrets of Sustaining Life

Published 10th November 2019

Three billion years ago, Earth was a very different place. The sun that shone on its oceans and continents was not as bright as it is today, and rather than the oxygen-rich atmosphere humans need to survive, methane played a much bigger role in the gas layer that encased our young planet. Despite their differences, this early Earth and our current one have something important in common: they could both support life.

For much of its existence, Earth has been inhabited. But if researchers remotely analyzed the atmosphere of that young Earth, they might have missed the evidence for life.

How Virgin Galactic Plans To Send You To Space

Published 11th November 2019

https://images.wsj.net/im-88144?width=1260&size=1.5

Space tourism is the next great frontier for mankind and Virgin Galactic is at the forefront with its innovative space planes.

For years, Virgin Galactic has been known as the trailblazer for space tourism, and the reveal of its brand new line of spacesuits (a partnership with Under Armour) only further solidified that fact.

The new spacesuits don’t look like the ones we are typically used to, and that’s because Virgin Galactic wants its passengers to be as comfortable and flexible as possible during suborbital flights.

With private companies like SpaceX, Boeing, and Blue Origin all developing innovative commercial rockets for human spaceflight, we are in the midst of what some call the “next-generation space race.”

And Virgin Galactic remains an ambitious contender by promising to send anyone, that’s right anyone, not just astronauts, to space as early as 2020. The spaceflight company promises a view like you’ve never seen before.

And while it’s no secret that Virgin Galactic has had some tragic setbacks including a ground explosion in 2007 and a fatal crash in 2014. After going back to the drawing board and conducting years of test runs, Virgin Galactic accomplished its first successful crewed flight in December 2018.

And then another successful spaceflight in February 2019 where the three crew members and NASA scientific payloads reached an altitude of about 89 kilometers above sea level.

Find out more about Virgin Galactic’s goal to make traveling to space more accessible and how the company plans to do so on this episode of Countdown to Launch.

Space-Grade CPUs: How Do You Send More Computing Power Into Space?

Phobos-Grunt, perhaps the most ambitious deep space mission ever attempted by Russia, crashed down into the ocean at the beginning of 2012. The spacecraft was supposed to land on the battered Martian moon Phobos, gather soil samples, and get them back to Earth. Instead, it ended up helplessly drifting in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) for a few weeks because its onboard computer crashed just before it could fire the engines to send the spacecraft on its way to Mars.

In the ensuing report, Russian authorities blamed heavy charged particles in galactic cosmic rays that hit the SRAM chips and led to a latch-up, a chip failure resulting from excessive current passing through. To deal with this latch-up, two processors working in the Phobos-Grunt’s TsVM22 computer initiated a reboot. After rebooting, the probe then went into a safe mode and awaited instructions from ground control. Unfortunately, those instructions never arrived.

Stingray-Inspired Spacecraft Aims To Explore Dark Side Of Venus

Published 11th November 2019

http://www.buffalo.edu/content/dam/www/news/photos/2019/11/nasa-breeze-graphic.jpg

Venus is Earth’s neighbor, yet scientists’ understanding of the planet is relatively limited, especially on the so-called “dark side.”

That knowledge gap may eventually be filled because University at Buffalo researchers are designing a unique spacecraft for NASA that might explore the planet like no previous probe.

The Bio-inspired Ray for Extreme Environments and Zonal Explorations (BREEZE) project is one of 12 revolutionary concepts selected by NASA for its Innovative Advanced Concepts (NIAC) program, which funds early-stage technologies that could change what’s possible in space. (Six other projects chosen in previous years received additional funding.)

Proposed by the university’s Crashworthiness for Aerospace Structures and Hybrids (CRASH) Laboratory, researchers envision a morphing spacecraft with wings that flap like a stingray’s pectoral fins. The design could make efficient use of high winds in the planet’s upper atmosphere while providing scientists unparalleled control of the vehicle.

Does Life Need A Multiverse To Exist?

Published 11th November 2019

Life exists in our universe. There we go - one hopefully uncontroversial statement. Therefore our universe is capable of producing and supporting life. How am I going? Two for two? Let’s try for three: therefore there are countless universes. Hmmm. Did I break my streak?

Our universe seems to operate according to a set of fundamental rules that we try to understand and model with the equations of our laws of physics. Those equations always include one or more fundamental constants - simple numbers that set the scale for the equation. We can’t determine the values of these constants from pure theory - we have to measure them in the real universe. These are things like the speed of light, the Planck constant, the masses of the elementary particles, and the constants defining the relative strengths of the fundamental forces - the so-called coupling constants.

For the first time in the history of space exploration, scientists have measured the seasonal changes in the gases that fill the air directly above the surface of Gale Crater on Mars. As a result, they noticed something baffling: oxygen, the gas many Earth creatures use to breathe, behaves in a way that so far scientists cannot explain through any known chemical processes.

How Close Are We To Terraforming Mars?

Published 13th November 2019

https://static.scientificamerican.com/blogs/cache/file/2BB5E180-6385-48EB-ACE36301A35BFD3E_source.jpg

There have been some wild proposals about how to make Mars more suitable for humans—but how close are we to actually terraforming the Red Planet?

A term originally coined in science fiction, terraforming, in basic terms, is changing the atmosphere and climate of a planet so it can support human life without the need for equipment like spacesuits.

In order to survive on Mars, we would need to be able to do a few basic things: breathe, stay conscious, not freeze to death, and over time grow food.

Right now, if humans were to step outside while on Mars, we’d pass out instantly and die pretty soon after as a result of the low pressure pulling oxygen out of solution in our blood.

Doesn’t sound too habitable, huh?

But if we could find a way to thicken the atmosphere by adding mass to it, the result might be kickstarting a greenhouse effect that would stabilize the temperature, staving off some radiation, too.

To achieve this level of climate alteration, we would need to build hundreds of factories on Mars’ surface…and that is no small task.

But with interest in space exploration and tourism on the rise, we might get the tools and tech we need sooner than we’d imagined.

Find out more about what we would need to do to make Mars habitable for humans and how close we are to terraforming the planet on this episode of How Close Are We?

Aerogel Mars
https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/life-unbounded/aerogel-mars/
As an alternative, what Wordsworth et al. suggest is a kind of localized 'farming' approach. Silica aerogel is extremely low density and porous, but it can also produce a solid-state greenhouse effect because it's fairly opaque to infrared radiation (and doesn't conduct heat well) but is partially transparent to visible and shorter wavelength light.

Climate explained: why Mars is cold despite an atmosphere of mostly carbon dioxide
https://phys.org/news/2019-11-climate-mars-cold-atmosphere-carbon.html
The absence of water makes the temperature on Mars change a lot. The Mars exploration rovers (Spirit at Gusev Crater and Opportunity at Meridiani Planun) experienced temperatures ranging from a few degrees Celsius above zero to minus 80℃ at night: every single Martian day, known as sol.

Dana Lacatus | Spectroscopic Investigation Of The Solar Atmosphere

Recorded & Published 13th November 2019

The solar chromosphere plays a critical role in most of the open questions of solar physics, from coronal heating to the acceleration of the solar wind. It spans only 2000 km, but nine pressure scale heights, while the temperature increases by some two orders of magnitude. This layer is the location of most of the solar radiative losses, with the emission dominated by singly ionized ions. Despite its modest dimensions, the plasma properties make interpretation challenging, because most lines originating here are optically thick and formed in non-LTE.

We present an exploration of the chromospheric emission, from quiet to flaring solar conditions, using spectroscopic data from the IRIS instrument. The main focus of this study is the variability of the Mg II resonance lines, investigating how their profiles change based on the emitting solar structure. The extraction of the different spectral features from the observed emission profile is detailed and general trends are discussed.

Using quiet sun datasets we investigate potential characteristics that provide better contrast for distinguishing Coronal Holes from quiet sun in chromospheric emission. Thus we explore if any profile feature is more sensitive to the slightly different magnetic morphology, given that coronal holes are dominated by open field lines contributing to the solar wind acceleration.

We also explore the enhanced emission and wide variation of profiles in more active conditions leading up, during, and after a strong solar flare. For a complete picture of the flaring event, we also include information covering the surrounding solar atmosphere, using data from IRIS, SDO, and RHESSI. The slow rise and eventual destabilization of a filament is found to be preceding the flare. In the descending phase of the flare, we identified an extended coronal rain episode that persisted for more than an hour and was characterized by peculiarly wide profiles in both chromospheric and TR emission lines.

On 12 November 2014 Philae became the first spacecraft to land on a comet as part of the successful Rosetta mission to study comet 67P. Five years later, and after the mission’s official end in 2016, Rosetta is continuing to provide insights into the origins of our Solar System.

Rosetta’s instruments have already discovered that the comet contained oxygen, organic molecules, noble gases and ’heavy’ or deuterated water different to that found on Earth.
As scientists continue to analyse data from Rosetta’s instruments, including the ionised gas or plasma, the results are improving our understanding of comets. Mission data is also being delivered to an archive as a future resource.

Rosetta orbits the Sun every 6.5 years and will pass the Earth again, visible from ground-based telescopes, in 2021. ESA’s future Comet Interceptor mission will build on Rosetta’s success when it performs a flyby of a comet. But, unlike Rosetta, the comet will be new to our Solar System.

In part one we begin to discuss Colin's article ( https://thecultishshow.com/blog/engaging-et ), thinking especially of the religious implications of ET/UFO beliefs. Pastor Samul gives us some of his background and testimony, and explains why he has continued to follow this subject. We discuss the modern obsession with UFOs in relation to everything from the New Age, Mormonism, Transhumanism, and the theory of Evolution. As we will see, the UFO is the apotheosis of modern religious sentiments

We then delve into the background of Tom Delonge in the early formation of his company "To the Stars." We quickly dive into the rabbit hole of clandestine government contacts and our military's interaction with the UFO phenomenon, as related to Tom by his original advisers from within the government. According to them the phenomenon is not only real, but has often appeared threatening to our military establishment. We end with Tom's original advisers breaking off contact with him, as their identities were exposed in the 2016 wikileak dump of DNC emails. This would lead to Tom organizing a second group of government advisers who are now publicly associated with him through the To the Stars Academy of Arts and Science, which we will explore further in episode 2.

Why NASA Is Sending Rockets Into Earth’s Leaky Atmosphere?

Published 14th November 2019

NASA scientists are seeking a strange breed of northern lights in the Arctic. When these auroras shine, Earth’s atmosphere leaks into space.

In the tiny Arctic town of Ny-Ĺlesund, where polar bears outnumber people, winter means three months without sunlight.

NASA scientists travelled to Ny-Ĺlesund to launch rockets through these auroras and witness oxygen particles right in the middle of their escape. Piercing these fleeting auroras, some 300 miles high, would require strategy, patience — and a fair bit of luck. This was NASA’s VISIONS-2 mission, and this is their story.

VISIONS-2 was just the first of many. Over the coming months, rocket teams from all over the world will launch rockets into this region as part of the Grand Challenge Initiative—Cusp, an international collaboration to study the mysteries of the polar atmosphere.

The Leonid Meteor Shower Will Peak This Weekend

Published 14th November 2019

One of the most famous of the annual meteor displays is due to reach its peak this weekend. The Leonid meteor shower.

The Leonids occur when Earth passes through the debris left by the comet 55P/Tempel-Tuttle. The comet takes around 33 years to make one orbit around the Sun.

The best viewing time is after midnight, when the constellation Leo rises above the eastern horizon. The Leonids should be at their best early Sunday, Nov. 17, at 2:00 a.m. local time. Leonids can be viewed at any place on Earth, given the sky is clear.

In 2019, the Leonids are expected to fall most abundantly before dawn November 17, though under the bright light of waning gibbous Moon. Skywatchers should be able to see about 15 to 20
shooting stars per hour.

This shower has been known to produce meteor storms.
The Leonids produced meteor storms of hundreds to thousands meteors per hour at the peak each year from 1998 to 2002. An amazing night in 1966, the meteors were falling like a rain.

For best meteor viewing experts suggest going to a location away from city lights, dressing warmly, and lie flat on your back and look straight up. No special viewing equipment needed — just your eyes.

Clear Skies Everyone!

David Sing | Hubble’s Panchromatic Comparative View Of Exoplanet Atmospheres

Published 14th November 2019

To date, Hubble has played the definitive role in the characterization of exoplanet atmospheres. From the first planets available, we have learned that their atmospheres are incredibly diverse. With HST, JWST, and TESS a new era of atmospheric studies is opening up, where wide scale comparative planetology is now possible. Such studies can provide insight into the underlying physical process through comparative studies. Hubble’s full spectroscopic capabilities are now being used to produce the first large-scale, simultaneous UVOIR comparative study of 20 exoplanets ranging from super-Earth to Neptune and Jupiter sizes. With full UV to infrared wavelength coverage, an entire planet’s atmosphere can be probed simultaneously and with sufficient numbers of planets, it will be possible to statistically compare their features with physical parameters. The panchromatic treasury program aims at build a lasting HST legacy, providing the UV and blue-optical exoplanet spectra which will be unavailable to JWST, providing key insights into clouds and mass loss. I will review the highlights of the program to date, which include atmospheric water resolved in emission and new absorption features seen in transmission such as escaping ionized metals. I will also present the latest findings from the ongoing Hubble Treasury program and discuss synergies with JWST.

Linda Moulton Howe | Metamaterial

Published 14th November 2019

On July 25, 2019, an organization called To The Stars Academy of Arts & Science, led by rock star Tom DeLonge, announced they had acquired a “groundbreaking” piece of metamaterial.
Although the press release never said it was tied to anything extraterrestrial or alien, the implications were there.

However, specific details… were not.

One of those details, is the fact that this unknown piece of metal actually has a history that stretches back at least seventy years.

It’s tied to a story that involves a late 1940’s crashed UFO, a military clean up, an extraterrestrial being with telepathic communication, and of course, a cover-up to ensure it all remained a secret.

That is, until 1996, when the grandson of a military security officer present at the UFO clean-up site — broke his silence and contacted legendary radio talk show host Art Bell, along with my guest today... Emmy award winning investigative journalist, Linda Moulton Howe.

In April and May 1996, the grandson sent two shipments of different metals his deceased grandfather left with a diary and Linda has investigated and owned some of those metal pieces over the past 22 years — including mysterious micron-layered Bismuth and Magnesium-Zinc.
She has spent countless hours, and thousands of dollars, investigating what it is.

Today, Linda will give us a special one-on-one interview, outlining the origin, history and investigation into a piece that is intriguing curious minds around the globe, and it’s even, caught the attention of the U.S. Army.

Chris Marx | Skinwalker Ranch & Human Experimentation

Published 15th November 2019

It is a mystery that stretches across about 1,000 acres of land.

It was first reported on back in June of 1996, and since then, what we now know as Skinwalker Ranch has intrigued anyone interested in the Paranormal.

Cattle mutilations, UFOs, otherworldly creatures… the ranch seems to be a paranormal buffet for all things weird and unusual.

Now, rumors circulate that even the Defense Intelligence Agency took an interest in the ranch, and some even allege that it was the epicenter for government-backed paranormal research during a program known as AAWSAP.

My guest today is Chris Marx. He is a former law enforcement officer for the state of New Mexico for more than 9 years. After his work there, he went on to join the U.S. Army and became a certified Military Police Investigator. He also had two tours of deployment in Iraq between 2007 and 2009.

When he returned state side, he went to the private sector. This is where Chris was hired by Bigelow Aerospace Advanced Space Studies, or BAASS, to work as an investigator for billionaire Robert Bigelow. Chris worked on the infamous Skinwalker Ranch, utilizing conventional as well as unconventional research techniques in the field. He left for another combat tour in Afghanistan in 2016, and upon his return, was transferred to work within Bigelow Aerospace itself, which he did until his resignation in February 2019.

After his own investigative research after he left Bigelow Aerospace; he now feels much of his time at Skinwalker Ranch may have been about human experimentation, he just didn’t know it at the time. He also feels strongly that quite possibly… he was one of the test subjects.

His concerns that remain unanswered and unaddressed turn an already twisted tale of paranormal encounters, into an incredibly disturbing narrative, if it all turns out to be true.

Two Of The Neptune’s Moons Dance Around Each Other To Avoid Colliding

Published 17th November 2019

These two moons orbit only about 1,150 miles (1,850 kilometers) apart. But they never get that close to each other. The moons are found to be locked in ‘dance of avoidance.’

Naiad swirls around the ice giant every seven hours, while Thalassa, on the outside track, takes seven and a half hours. An observer sitting on Thalassa would see Naiad in an orbit that varies wildly in a zigzag pattern, passing by twice from above and then twice from below. This up, up, down, down pattern, repeats every time Naiad gains four laps on Thalassa.

Marina Brozovic, an expert in solar system dynamics at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, said, “We refer to this repeating pattern as a resonance. There are many different types of ‘dances’ that planets, moons, and asteroids can follow, but this one has never been seen before.”

Naiad and Thalassa are small and shaped like Tic Tacs, spanning only about 60 miles (100 kilometers) in length. They are two of Neptune’s seven inner moons, part of a closely packed system that is interwoven with faint rings.

A Quick Look At The Phoenix Cluster

Published 18th November 2019

Galaxy clusters are the largest objects in the universe held together by gravity and contain a gigantic black hole in their center.

Astronomers usually find these black holes tamp down the formation of new stars by pumping heat and energy out into space.

The supermassive black hole at the center of the Phoenix galaxy cluster is not playing this usual role.

Instead, outbursts from the central black hole are actually helping more stars to form.

To make this discovery, scientists combined data from NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory, Hubble Space Telescope, and the Very Large Array.

ZKIJvGUA738

A Tour Of The Phoenix Cluster

Published 18th November 2019

Astronomers have confirmed the first example of a supermassive black hole unable to prevent copious numbers of stars forming in the core of galaxy cluster where it resides. This result provides new details about the life cycles of some of the most extreme objects in the universe.

Galaxy clusters are the largest structures in the cosmos that are held together by gravity, and consist of hundreds or even thousands of galaxies embedded in hot gas, and invisible dark matter. The largest supermassive black holes astronomers have ever found are in the centers of galaxy clusters.

For decades, astronomers thought galaxy clusters should contain rich nurseries of stars in their centers, resulting from cooling of their huge reservoirs of hot gas. Instead, they found the powerful, giant black holes were pumping out energy via jets and keeping the gas too warm to form many stars.

Now, scientists have compelling evidence that stars are forming at a furious rate in the Phoenix galaxy cluster, apparently linked to a less effective black hole in its center. In this unique cluster, outbursts from the central black hole instead appear to be aiding in the formation of stars. They used new data from NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory and Hubble Space Telescope, and the NSF's Karl Jansky Very Large Array, or VLA, to build on previous observations of this cluster.

Data from Chandra show that the coolest gas it can detect is located near the center of the cluster. In the absence of significant sources of heat, astronomers expect cooling to occur at the highest rates in a cluster's center, where the densest gas is located.Outbursts powered by the black hole then forced the gas to cool even more quickly. The outbursts drove a pair of jets seen in radio waves by the VLA, which pushed outward and inflated cavities in the hot gas, detected with Chandra. Filaments of cool gas observed by Hubble are located around the borders of the cavities, so the authors concluded that the black hole's outburst carried the gas away from the black hole. The farther away from the black hole, the faster the gas can cool to form stars.

This latest result on the Phoenix Cluster demonstrates that the supermassive black holes at the centers of galaxy clusters can have dramatic — and different — impacts on their surroundings. Astronomers will continue to use Chandra and other telescopes to learn more about the Phoenix Cluster and other cosmic giants like it.

As the north pole’s carbon dioxide ice cap shrinks, its southern counterpart grows large. Carbon dioxide gas makes up 95% of Mars’ atmosphere and a considerable portion of it freezes out onto the surface as the poles reach their coldest point. As fall arrives in the simulation, a dust storm forms at the north pole and soon encircles the entire planet, dying down over the course of the winter.

The simulation was run on the NASA Advanced Supercomputing facility's Pleiades supercomputer using data produced by the Mars Climate Modeling Center, both at NASA’s Ames Research Center in California’s Silicon Valley. The MCMC’s work assists NASA in planning missions to Mars and helps us understand our solar system better by answering questions about how planets evolve and whether conditions on Mars could once have been favorable for life.

NASA Scientists Confirm Water Vapor On Europa

Published 18th November 2019

https://www.nasa.gov/sites/default/files/styles/full_width/public/thumbnails/image/mockup6.jpg?itok=qWnaGGet

Forty years ago, a Voyager spacecraft snapped the first closeup images of Europa, one of Jupiter’s 79 moons. These revealed brownish cracks slicing the moon’s icy surface, which give Europa the look of a veiny eyeball. Missions to the outer solar system in the decades since have amassed enough additional information about Europa to make it a high-priority target of investigation in NASA’s search for life.

What makes this moon so alluring is the possibility that it may possess all of the ingredients necessary for life. Scientists have evidence that one of these ingredients, liquid water, is present under the icy surface and may sometimes erupt into space in huge geysers. But no one has been able to confirm the presence of water in these plumes by directly measuring the water molecule itself. Now, an international research team led out of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, has detected the water vapor for the first time above Europa’s surface. The team measured the vapor by peering at Europa through one of the world’s biggest telescopes in Hawaii.

Earth’s Magnetic Song Recorded For The First Time During A Solar Storm

Published 18th November 2019

The song comes from waves that are generated in the Earth’s magnetic field by the collision of the storm. The storm itself is the eruption of electrically charged particles from the Sun’s atmosphere.

A team led by Lucile Turc, a former ESA research fellow who is now based at the University of Helsinki, Finland, made the discovery after analysing data from the Cluster Science Archive. The archive provides access to all data obtained during Cluster’s ongoing mission over almost two decades.

Solar Storm Is Heading For Earth - Aurora Displays Alert

Published 19th November 2019

NOAA forecasters say there is a 65% chance of minor G1-class geomagnetic storms on November 21st, when a high-speed stream of solar wind is expected to hit Earth's magnetic field. The gaseous material is flowing from a large hole in the sun's atmosphere.

"Coronal Holes," are vast regions in the sun's atmosphere where magnetic fields open up and allow solar wind to escape. They look dark in ultraviolet images because the hot glowing plasma normally contained there is missing. In this case, the plasma is making a beeline for Earth.

High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras on November 21st when the solar wind arrives. G1-class storms can produce Northern Lights as far south as US states ranging from Maine to Washington.

How LISA Pathfinder Detected Dozens Of 'Comet Crumbs'

Published 18th November 2019

https://www.nasa.gov/sites/default/files/styles/ubernode_alt_horiz/public/thumbnails/image/lpf_impact_3.jpg

LISA Pathfinder, a mission led by ESA (the European Space Agency) that included NASA contributions, successfully demonstrated technologies needed to build a future space-based gravitational wave observatory, a tool for detecting ripples in space-time produced by, among other things, merging black holes. A team of NASA scientists leveraged LISA Pathfinder's record-setting sensitivity for a different purpose much closer to home — mapping microscopic dust shed by comets and asteroids.

Most of these particles, known as micrometeroids, have masses measured in micrograms, similar to a small grain of sand. But at speeds reaching 40,000 mph (64,000 kph), even micrometeoroids pack a punch.

The NASA team, led by Ira Thorpe at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, detected 54 impacts during the mission, which lasted from 2015 to 2017. Modeling the strikes allowed the researchers to determine what kinds of objects shed the dust. The findings are broadly consistent with existing ideas of what generates micrometeroids found near Earth. The dusty culprits are mostly short-period comets whose orbits are determined by Jupiter. Comets with longer periods, like Halley’s comet, also contributed dust that LISA Pathfinder sensed.

The new measurements could help refine dust models used by researchers in a variety of studies, from understanding the physics of planet formation to estimating impact risks for current and future spacecraft.

This Ancient Comet May Be Behind The Origin Of Life On Earth

Published 18th November 2019

Comet 21P/Giacobini-Zinner is no stranger to Earth. Aside from appearing in our night skies every six and a half years or so, the small comet spits out ice and rock debris into space, which then falls to Earth every year with the annual Draconid meteor shower.

Now, scientists reveal that one of those earlier meteor showers may have played a starring role in the origin of life on Earth. The findings are detailed in a study published in the journal Icarus this week.

Broadcast 18th & Published 19th November 2019

On this edition of the program, after opening with news in the world of zoology that includes the rediscovery of a species that had been unseen for decades, as well as what science says about the closest living modern relatives to a gigantic “Sasquatch” that lived during the Ice Age, we shift our attention to the anniversary of one of the most important UFO incidents in modern history: the strange case of the Japanese Airlines 1628 incident, where a former fighter pilot and his crew were pursued by a massive unidentified flying object while passing over Alaska. We also touch on incidents involving strange aerial objects observed over U.S. missile launch sites and nuclear facilities, with the recurring theme of government secrecy pertaining to such cases.

Then later in the program we are joined by Tim McMillan, a retired law enforcement officer who presently works as an investigative journalist and freelance writer, whose recent Popular Mechanics piece discussed testimony given my numerous servicemen who were present during the widely discussed USS Nimitz UFO incident of 2004. Here again, some of those witnesses have discussed how information pertaining to the incident was later retrieved by individuals appearing to represent some government agency. We look at the facts surrounding this case, and ask the fundamental question, “what branch of government is collecting data about UFO incidents?”

The US Air Force Has Quietly Studied UFOs Passing Under Satellites, Documents Show

Published 19th November 2019

Information on the phenomenon is rare, but there have been two declassified studies on what are known as “fastwalkers” among Air Force personnel.

Per a 2008 paper, satellite based sensors looking down at the Earth’s surface occasionally observe reflected light from an object passing through the image. They move too fast relative to the background to be in Earth’s atmosphere. A database of fastwalker events exists as far back as the early 70s, and the authors conclude these are multiple objects, though they do not know if they're consistently in orbit (geostationary or low-Earth), or not.

These findings are important, because it shows the military is taking the fastwalker problem seriously. These phenomena may be the same thing watchers of NASA live streams have noticed in the past, when fast-moving objects appear to move past cameras on the ISS or (past) space shuttles. The Air Force files do not state the number of fastwalker events, but it's numerous enough to catalogue them.

Solar Storm Forecast | Fast Wind Storms & Europa Plumes

Published 21st November 2019

This week we finally have some good news for aurora photographers! A coronal hole that has brought us up to storm levels multiple times before is back and is sending us some fast solar wind yet again! We have already bumped up to unsettled conditions and could hit active conditions within the next 24 hours. Aurora field reporters, especially at high latitudes should be on the alert for aurora. We could even get some sporadic aurora at mid-latitudes over the next day or so. As for the Sun, unfortunately, we are back to spotless conditions with solar flux tanking back into the high 60s. This means poor radio propagation on Earth's dayside for next next week or more. GPS users, however, should be smiling since GPS reception on Earth's dayside should remain pretty decent overall. Alin Paraschiv | The Coronal Geyser Structure

Recorded 20th & Published 21st November 2019

The seminar will overview our recent findings on active region coronal jets. During its solar disk transit the solar active region 11302 showcased a vast display of coronal jets identified in extreme-ultraviolet imaging.

We describe multiple co-temporal jet phenomenology: (1) The jets exhibit a strand-like morphology undergoing untwisting motions which suggest torsional waves may propagate along open magnetic fields during eruptions; (2) We recover the thermal and non-thermal properties of the eruptions and compared the physical properties of the plasma simultaneously at the base brightpoint and along the jets outflow using multiple techniques in both extreme-ultraviolet and X-ray emission; (3) To further pursue the non-thermal manifestations of jet eruptions, we combined multiple observations and models aiming to reveal the physically fundamented relation between jets, their flaring brightpoints, and interplanetary type-III radio bursts. (4) We study the lower photosphere and reconstruct magnetic structures in order to assess the emission mechanism(s) responsible for generating the identified set of recurrent eruptions.

We report the identification of arched structures in the lower solar atmosphere which undergo through multiple magnetic reconnections and are the main trigger of solar jets. These sites are classified as “Coronal Geysers”. To our knowledge, the long term jet recurrence and its association with a persistent erupting structure, identified as the "geyser structure", was not previously discussed. The data analysis of this phenomenon provides new information for theoretical modeling of jets and allows for a better assessment of the hypothesis that jet eruptions are triggered by recurring small-scale filament eruptions

Meet Dream Chaser, The Next-Generation Space Plane

Published 21st November 2019

https://www.sncorp.com/media/2286/snc-dream-chaser-spacecraft_page-bg-2019.jpg

This new space plane just got one step closer to liftoff, and it could change spaceflight to the ISS in years to come.

The Space Shuttle Orbiter is an iconic symbol of human space exploration, and we haven’t seen anything like its unique design since its retirement in 2011.

Until now.

Engineers at the Sierra Nevada Corporation’s facility in Colorado are in the early stages of assembling the new space plane, called the Dream Chaser.

The Dream Chaser is one of NASA’s Commercial Resupply Services 2 contract recipients, and the vehicle will join the fleet of utility spacecraft, like SpaceX’s Dragon capsule and Northrop Grumman's Cygnus module.

But unlike those spacecraft, the Dream Chaser is shaped like a plane, allowing for the space plane to be reused 15 times or more, reducing costs and allowing for quick turnaround between missions.

The space plane’s shape is not the only thing that makes the Dream Chaser so enticing, the vehicle is also capable of supporting a variety of needs, like landing on runways used to passenger planes; carrying various loads of cargo; supporting a microgravity lab; and disposing of waste from the International Space Station (ISS).

It can land on runways used for passenger planes; carry various loads of cargo; support a microgravity lab; and dispose of waste from the ISS.

Find out more about the next-generation space plane that might be the new icon of human spaceflight for years to come on this episode of Countdown To Launch.

"Our Dream Chaser spacecraft was selected by NASA to provide cargo delivery, return and disposal service for the space station under the Commercial Resupply Service 2 (CRS-2) contract. Dream Chaser will carry critical supplies like food, water, and science experiments and returns to Earth with a gentle runway landing. The spacecraft will provide a minimum of six cargo missions to and from the space station starting in fall 2021."

"Tiles made from improved silica-based blocks will make up most of the belly and upper portion of the heat shield, while a new material developed at NASA’s Ames Research Center called “TUFROC” will cover the nose and leading edges. Those are the surfaces that must resist and mitigate the highest temperatures the spacecraft experiences from the friction of re-entering Earth’s atmosphere."

"Dream Chaser will be the “commercial debut” for Vulcan, with the first mission in late 2021 flying on the rocket’s second flight, said Tory Bruno, president and chief executive of ULA. “This is a very competitive launch market nowadays,” he said, “and to be selected by SNC to fly this block of missions on our Vulcan launch vehicle is just a tremendous honor.”"

Orion's Belt In Egyptian, Mayan & Hopi Cultures

Published 21st November 2019

Many ancient cultures shared the belief that we came from the stars. For dozens of millennia if not longer, humans have been plotting the movement of the stars, studying the heavens, constructing calendars, and erecting monuments to track the procession of the constellations and heavenly bodies across the night sky.

Several constellations and stars have played an important role in ancient cultures and the belief of the celestial origins of our species. In the places where these legends emerge, we find structures that correlate with the position of these stars and constellations in the sky. And, perhaps the most prevalent of all these correlations is with the Orion constellation.

Dr. Patricia Ann Straat | Why We May Have Already Found Life On Mars

Published 21st November 2019

https://static.wixstatic.com/media/81dcfc_25c6f10305e945a69b1144eefcb116e3~mv2.jpg

With the recent findings of seasonal methane blooms on Mars and now unusual readings of unexplained oxygen levels, the question of "is there microbiological life on the red planet?" goes unanswered. In 1976, NASA sent Viking 1 and Viking 2 with four types of biological experiments. Of these experiments, the Labeled Release Experiment returned positive results on both landers, however the control tests could not confirm the results. Did the Viking landers find life on Mars?

Dear Guys,

Just came across this article today. I am amazed that a well-known academic should be going down the same path as Andrew Basiago. I'm keeping an open mind at the moment, but it looks as if the consensus is that it's good old pareidolia at work.

I do know that entomology is a pretty precise discipline, with great care taken in classification of lifeforms, so I'm intrigued:

NASA Photos Show Insect- and Reptile-Like Life Forms on Mars, Entomologist Says

Ohio University Emeritus Professor William Romoser has analyzed photos from NASA’s various Mars rovers, mostly from the rover Curiosity, and found insect/arthropod- and reptile-like organisms (both as fossils and living creatures) in the images.

http://www.sci-news.com/space/insect-reptile-like-life-forms-mars-07830.html

http://cdn.sci-news.com/images/2019/11/image_7830_1-Mars-Insects.jpg

"There has been and still is life on Mars,” said Professor Romoser, who was an entomology professor at Ohio University for 45 years and co-founded its Tropical Disease Institute, also spent nearly 20 years as a visiting vector-borne disease researcher at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases.

“There is apparent diversity among the Martian insect-like fauna which display many features similar to terran insects that are interpreted as advanced groups — for example, the presence of wings, wing flexion, agile gliding/flight, and variously structured leg elements.”

“While the Martian rovers, particularly Curiosity, have been looking for indicators of organic activity, there are a number of photos which clearly depict the insect- and reptile-like forms.”

“Numerous photos show images where arthropod body segments, along with legs, antennae and wings, can be picked out from the surrounding area, and one even appears to show one of the insects in a steep dive before pulling up just before hitting the ground,” he said.

"Professor Romoser said he used several criteria in the study: dramatic departure from the surroundings, clarity of form, body symmetry, segmentation of body parts, repeating form, skeletal remains, and observation of forms in close proximity to one another.

“An exoskeleton and jointed appendages are sufficient to establish identification as an arthropod,” he explained.

“Three body regions, a single pair of antennae, and six legs are traditionally sufficient to establish identification as insect on Earth. These characteristics should likewise be valid to identify an organism on Mars as insect-like.”

“On these bases arthropodan insect-like forms can be seen in the Mars rover photos.”

“Many insect-like creatures and putative diversity were observed. The most common insect-like forms are robust and loosely resemble bumble bees or carpenter bees on Earth. For convenience, I’ll refer to these creatures as ‘bees’ from this point on.”

“The ‘bees’ appear to vary in size and type. Several characteristic insect/arthropod anatomical features were identifiable, not all on the same individual, but as a mosaic among individuals.”

“Distinct flight behavior was evident in many images. In one case observed, the flight maneuver was impressive with the individual ‘bee’ plunging straight down the side of a cliff and leveling off just before hitting the ground.”

“The insect-like fauna observed appeared to be sheltering/nesting in caves, in burrows beneath the surface, and in specialized structures.”

“Possible predation of the insect-like types by reptile-like creatures and putative insect-like (‘bee’) and reptile-like fossils were seen,” he said.

According to the researcher, interpretations of insect- and reptile-like creatures he described may change in the future as knowledge of life on Mars evolves, but that the sheer volume of evidence is compelling.

“Given evidence for the presence of insect/arthropod and reptile-like organisms beyond the confines of Earth, perhaps ‘astroentomology’ and ‘astroherpetology’ will emerge as important topics within the field of astrobiology,” Professor Romoser concluded.

He presented the findings November 19, 2019 at the National Meeting of the Entomological Society of America in St. Louis, Missouri.

Regards,

John

A Detailed Breakdown Of An Alcubierre Warp Drive Coil

Published 25th November 2019

The general concept of the "warp drive" was first introduced by John W. Campbell in his 1931 novel Islands of Space. Since then it has captured the attention of many science-fiction writers.

As with many technologies found within the pages of a good novel, a great number of them eventually find their way into reality. And that’s because of this little something we call—inspiration.

Alcubierre was no exception—having been inspired to mathematically work out a model for a potential real-life warp drive enduring an episode of Star Trek.

Though he never intended to develop it further, he did, however, inspire others including NASA and us.

From day one the drive has been primarily associated with FTL travel. But most of you are probably not aware that the warp drive has multiple functions.

In about 50 years we will be able to travel FTL, but until then we can still benefit from the warp drive tech today, and in a moment I’ll tell you how we can do just that.

But first, let’s provide you with a detailed explanation of the warp drive and how it actually distorts or curves spacetime.

Probing Exoplanet Atmospheres Could Reveal Telltale Signatures Of Life

Published 25th November 2019

It may be that life is lurking out there on other planets. But stuck here on Earth, how can we ever know for sure? A good place to start is by looking for the compounds on other worlds that are known to be the key ingredients of life as we know it.

Detecting these so-called biosignatures, compounds that are known to be produced by living organisms, would be strong evidence that worlds may contain life. But picking up chemicals from such distant worlds, and choosing the right compounds to look for, is complicated.

'We've found dozens of potentially habitable planets - now we need to study them in detail'

Professor Ignas Snellen at Leiden University in the Netherlands has been refining techniques that combine data from the largest ground-based telescopes with high-contrast imaging that can reveal faint objects like planets. The telescopes use high-precision spectroscopy to examine the different wavelengths of the light they detect from space.

Northern Lights From An Aeroplane Window

Published 24th November 2019

Glorious auroras right outside aeroplane window and easy explanation how Northern Lights are formed.

When storms of solar wind interact with our atmosphere, the result can be the magnificent light show we know as the auroras... The Aurora borealis In the northern hemisphere and the aurora australis In the southern hemisphere. On October 31st 2019 we observed the aurora borealis dance outside our window for about an hour.

HOW NORTHERN LIGHTS FORM
Our sun ejects gases and charged particles into space in all directions. This is the solar wind. The harmful solar wind reaches the Earth’s protective magnetosphere in about 2-4 days. Most of the solar wind is deflected away by our magnetosphere, but a small percentage is channelled down lines of force in our magnetic field toward the Earth’s poles. The solar wind then collides and transfers energy to oxygen and nitrogen in the Earth’s atmosphere. The excited oxygen and nitrogen emit particles of light called photons in a glorious display of greens, reds, pinks and whites.

Stronger disturbances of the Earth’s magnetosphere caused by the solar winds are called geomagnetic storms. The planetary K-index, is used to characterize the magnitude of geomagnetic storms on a scale 0-9. On this Halloween morning, the KP index was a 4.

Space News | Wal Thornhill: Big Bang – Time To Wipe The Chalkboard Clean

Published 22nd November 2019

Scientists generally use the term "crisis in cosmology" to describe the numerous and growing evidences that contradict or undermine the Big Bang theory. For decades, numerous scientific papers have been published on the discordancy between the so-called expansion rate in the “early universe,” and the expansion rate in the “later Universe.”

In fact, recently the Keck Observatory issued a press release on the reported most reliable verification to date that the discordancy is real. And as we've reported ad nauseam on this series, the cosmological crisis runs much deeper and includes "surprising" discoveries at all scales throughout the cosmos.

In part one of this two-part presentation, physicist Wal Thornhill discusses some of the foundational problems with the standard cosmological model, and the real alternatives that the Electric Universe offers.

The Oumuamua Paradox –“We Have Slim Chance Of Distinguishing ET Artifacts From Natural Celestial Objects”

https://dailygalaxy.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/f902bd7f-6f4a-4731-abd3-f63061842fc7-2.jpg

British physicist Stephen Wolfram believes extraterrestrial intelligent life is inevitable, but with a caveat. Although intelligent life is inevitable, we will never find it -at least not by searching in the Milky Way. Wolfram points out that in order to compress more and more information into our communication signals – be they mobile phone conversations or computer- we remove all redundancy or pattern. If anything in a signal repeats, then it can be deleted. But this process of removing any pattern from a signal makes the signal look more and more random – in fact, pretty much like the random radio “noise” that rains down on Earth coming from stars and interstellar gas clouds.

According to Wolfram, if someone beamed our own 21st-century communication signals at us from space we would be hard pressed determining whether they were artificial or natural. So what chance do we have of distinguishing an ET communication from the general background radio static of the cosmos?

A CIR Is Expected To HIT Earth's Magnetic Field

Published 26th November 2019

Earth is entering a stream of solar wind flowing from a southern hole in the sun's atmosphere. First contact with the stream on Nov. 26 is producing green auroras around the Arctic Circle--but so far no geomagnetic storms. Wind speeds were elevated at an average speed of about 475 km/s.

Forecast ...
Solar wind conditions are expected to become further enhanced later today.
A co-rotating interaction region (CIR) is expected to hit Earth's magnetic field late on Nov. 26th, according to NOAA forecasters. CIRs are transition zones between fast- and slow-moving solar wind streams. Solar wind plasma piles up in these regions, producing shock-like density gradients that can do a good job of sparking Arctic auroras.

High-speed-solar-wind streams emanate from solar coronal holes. The fast wind interacts with upstream slow streams producing regions of enhanced magnetic field strength and particle density that are known as co-rotating interaction regions. Due to the reccuring nature of coronal holes near solar minimum, this results in periodic driving of the magnetosphere that can last for several days and input as much energy as a storm driven by a coronal mass ejection.

High latitude skywatchers should be alert for aurora displays.

The shrinking of the clouds of the Great Red Spot on Jupiter has been well documented with photographic evidence from the last decade. However, researchers said there is no evidence the vortex itself has changed in size or intensity.

Philip Marcus, from the University of California, Berkeley, will explain why the pictures from astronomers, both professionals and amateur, are not telling the whole story about the Great Red Spot. His session, The Shedding of Jupiter's Red Flakes Does Not Mean It Is Dying, will take place at the American Physical Society's Division of Fluid Dynamics 72nd Annual Meeting on Nov. 25 at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle.

The Power Of Jupiter's Red Spot

Published 24th November 2019

When Voyager 2 took the first images of Neptune, it discovered an enormous dark spot similar to the one found on Jupiter. When it was observed just a few years later, the dark spot had completely disappeared. This video looks at how the storms on Neptune and Jupiter form and why we might see Jupiter’s Great Red Spot disappear in our lifetime.

A Quick Look At A Positive Feedback Black Hole

Published 26th November 2019

For the first time, astronomers have seen a single black hole boost star birth in more than one galaxy at a time.

The supermassive black hole is located in the center of a galaxy about 9.9 billion light years from Earth, which has at least seven neighboring galaxies.

Previously, astronomers had discovered a jet from this black hole in radio waves with the Very Large Array.

Using Chandra, researchers detect a bright X-ray source around the black hole as well as a diffuse cloud of X-rays at one end of the jet.

This thin cloud of X-rays probably represents a bubble in the galaxy's hot gas created by the jet.

As this bubble expanded, it likely created a shock wave that triggered star formation as it moved.

By studying similar objects, astronomers hope to discover how common this phenomenon is in the formation of groups and clusters of galaxies.

A Tour Of A Positive Feedback Black Hole

Published 26th November 2019

Astronomers have uncovered a black hole that may have sparked the birth of stars over a phenomenal distance of more than a million light years and across multiple galaxies. If confirmed, this discovery, made with NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory and other telescopes, would represent the widest reach ever seen for a black hole acting as a stellar kick-starter.

The supermassive black hole is located in the center of a galaxy about 9.9 billion light years from Earth. This galaxy has at least seven neighboring galaxies, according to two optical light telescopes in Chile and Arizona.

Previously, astronomers had discovered a jet from this black hole in radio waves with the Very Large Array. Using Chandra, researchers then detected a bright X-ray source around the black hole as well as a diffuse cloud of X-rays at one end of the jet. Astronomers think this thin cloud of X-rays probably represents a bubble in the galaxy's hot gas created by the jet. As this bubble expanded, it likely created a shock wave that triggered star formation as it moved.

Researchers estimate from their data that four neighboring galaxies, each about 400,000 light years away from the end of the black hole's jet, have dramatically increased rates of star formation. This result represents a relatively rare occurrence where a black hole is actually boosting star formation rather than suppressing it. On top to that, this is the farthest that astronomers have ever seen this effect of so-called positive feedback extend.

Scientists will continue to study objects similar to this one in the hopes of trying to determine if this phenomenon is common — or not — in the formation of groups and clusters of galaxies.

‘Adjust Your Location Quickly’ — How China Warns Residents Before Rockets Crash Down From Space

Published 26th November 2019

https://image.cnbcfm.com/api/v1/image/105611371-1544201102826gettyimages-667916560.jpeg

China successfully launched satellites to space last week but a shower of rocket debris after the launch crushed buildings in the Sichuan province, captured in a video shared widely on social media.

Before the government launched a Long March 3B rocket from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center on Friday evening, it warned residents with a notice that read “If you see any flying objects falling from the sky, please adjust your location quickly to avoid any harm.”

China conducts many of its orbital launches from Xichang each year. Additionally, the majority of those rockets are the Long March 3B variation, which is comparable in size and power to U.S. rockets such as the SpaceX Falcon 9 or United Launch Alliance Atlas V.

But unlike U.S. launch pads, which are typically located along coastlines, Xichang is deep inland, which means the rocket flies directly over villages in rural China. As these rockets climb, they shed the “boosters” that make up the lower portion of the rocket. While U.S. rocket boosters typically fall back to the ocean, the Chinese rockets launched from Xichang fall over land, threatening local communities.

New Image Offers Close-up View Of Interstellar Comet

Published 27th November 2019

Yale astronomers have taken a new, close-up image of the interstellar comet 2l/Borisov.

2l/Borisov, first spotted this summer, continues to draw nearer to Earth and will reach its closest approach—about 190 million miles—in early December. Researchers believe the comet formed in a solar system beyond ours and was ejected into interstellar space as a consequence of a near-collision with a planet in its original solar system.

Yale astronomers Pieter van Dokkum, Cheng-Han Hsieh, Shany Danieli, and Gregory Laughlin captured the image Nov. 24 using the W.M. Keck Observatory's Low-Resolution Imaging Spectrometer in Hawaii. They've also created an image that shows how the comet would look alongside planet Earth.

The Chris Bledsoe Story

Published 18th & 26th November 2019

Pt 1: The River

Richard interviews UFO experiencer Chris Bledsoe, who's story is paradoxically well known within the UFO world, but nevertheless not well understood by many. In large part, this is because there is just so much going on around Chris and his family -- and those who have visited his North Carolina home as well. There isn't simply one story, but many.

What has always stood out regarding Chris Bledsoe is the combination of remarkable events around him combined with high credibility of the man himself. Along with this are the numerous witnesses who vouch for what has been going on his property.

That's why, to present his story properly, we will need several sessions. But it's important to start with the big case that got him attention in the first place. That is known as the River Incident, and it occurred on January 8, 2007. It involved Chris, his son Chris Jr. (17 years old at the time) and three other men who were fishing with them. A sighting of three large glowing orbs that all of them eventually saw, missing time (for Chris), sightings of beings and a very strange creature, and much more. The event was investigated by MUFON, which still lists his case as unknown.

We intend to cover the other important events as well, including his encounter with "The Lady." But this episode focuses solely on Bledsoe's encounter of 2007.

VERZrzrYm4w

Pt. 2: MUFON & The Government

This is the second part of Richard's interview with Chris Bledsoe. They continue to track Chris's story developed from 2007 onward. This part discusses the investigation of his case by MUFON, something that led to bad blood. Chris candidly discusses his feeling of betrayal after being ambushed by a polygraph test -- which certainly appears to have been administered not only in an unprofessional manner, but which was organized by MUFON for a profitable venture on a Discovery Channel television show.

Other matters are discussed, including a strange healing of Chris's dad during the 2007-12 period, which he attributes to these other beings. Also his hypnotic regression concerning the River Incident of 2007. Finally, interest from government people in his case, which to this day remains unclear and somewhat mysterious.

VY Canis Majoris' Inevitable Dramatic Demise As A Supernova

Published 27th November 2019

VY Canis Majoris is a stellar goliath. A red hypergiant, one of the largest known stars in the Milky Way. Located 3,900 light-years away from Earth in the constellation of Canis Major. This star is visible in a small telescope and has a strikingly red colour.

The radius of VY CMs is about 1,420 times that of the Sun, which is close to the Hayashi limit and corresponds to a volume about 3 billion times bigger than the Sun. A hypothetical object travelling at the speed of light would take 6 hours to travel around the star's circumference, compared to 14.5 seconds for the Sun.

If placed at the center of the Solar System, VY CMs surface would extend well beyond the orbit of Jupiter.

A team of astronomers using ESO's Very Large Telescope (VTL), has
captured the most detailed images ever of the hypergiant star. These observations show how the unexpectedly large size of the particles of dust surrounding the star enable it to lose an enormous amount of mass as it begins to die. This procces, understood now for the first time, is necessary to prepare such gigantic stars to meet explosive demises as supernovae.

Massive stars live short lives. When they near their final days, they lose a lot of mass. Scientists have found large grains of dust around this hypergiant. These are big enough to be pushed away by the star's intense radiation pressure, which explains the star's rapid mass loss.

The size of the dust grains also means much of it is likely to survive the radiation produced by VY Canis Majoris' inevitable dramatic demise as a supernova.

The explosion will be soon by astronomical standards, but there is no cause of alarm as this dramatic event is not likely for hundreds of thousands of years. It will be spectacular as seen from Earth - maybe the size of the Moon - but not a hazard to life here.

NASA, French Space Laser Measures Massive Migration Of Ocean Animals

Published 27th November 2019

https://www.nasa.gov/sites/default/files/styles/side_image/public/thumbnails/image/calipso1.jpg

Every night, under the cover of darkness, countless small sea creatures – from squid to krill – swim from the ocean depths to near the surface to feed. This vast animal migration – the largest on the planet and a critical part of Earth’s climate system – has been observed globally for the first time thanks to an unexpected use of a space-based laser.

Researchers observed this vertical migration pattern using the Cloud-Aerosol Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observations (CALIPSO) satellite -- a joint venture between NASA and the French space agency, Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales -- that launched in 2006. They published their findings in the journal Nature Wednesday.

“This is the latest study to demonstrate something that came as a surprise to many: that lidars have the sensitivity to provide scientifically useful ocean measurements from space,” said Chris Hostetler, a scientist at NASA's Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, and co-author on the study. "I think we are just scratching the surface of exciting new ocean science that can be accomplished with lidar.”

Is Earth Being Watched?

Published 27th November 2019

In the last few decades, our astronomical techniques have developed to the point that we can now detect planets orbiting other stars. Planets which transit their star make up most of our catalogs, because they are so easy to find and can reveal so much more information about the planets. For example, in the near future we might even be able to detect life remotely on these worlds. This makes us wonder - could someone out there already be using this method on us? Here, we explore which stars are best placed to detect us using the transit method, what they might learn about us and the possibility of reciprocal transit configurations, enabling a possible means of direct communication across the stars.

Scientists Just Witnessed The Birth Of Two Stars in Stunning Detail

Published 29th November 2019

https://www.sciencealert.com/images/2019-10/binary_star_accretion_1024.gif

Our knowledge of the early lives of stars is limited, but an exciting new observation provides a closer look at how stars are born.

An image that features two circumstellar disks in which baby stars are growing illustrates the first time ever that astronomers have witnessed the complex birth of binary stars in such vivd detail.

Astronomers had already seen a rough outline of the two protostars and their surrounding structures that were captured in the historical image, but these images offer an unprecedented look into the detailed network of gas and dust filaments circling them.

Scientists are hoping that these new observations will shine a light on stars’ mysterious origins. Stars are defined by all kinds of identities, from white dwarfs to blue giants. And stars also take on different social statuses.

And while our star, the Sun, remains the sole provider of Earth’s light, most stars travel in packs where two or more stars are gravitationally bound to one another.

There’s some debate as to why this is, but a recent statistical model suggests that all stars initially form as binaries, then drift apart over a million years.

Even the Sun is thought to have a long-lost twin out there somewhere in the galaxy.

Find out more about this breakthrough in high-tech stargazing and the origins of stars on this episode of Elements.

"The further back in time you go, the harder it is to spot stars directly, using instruments such as NASA's Hubble Space Telescope. For starters, there are fewer and fewer stars to find. And until about 500 million years after the Big Bang, the universe was suffused with neutral hydrogen atoms, which are good at blocking light."

Space Weather News | A Coronal Hole In The Strike Zone & A Meteor Explodes Over Wisconsin

Published 28th November 2019

Space Weather remains unsettled this week as we have some more fast solar wind from a southern hemisphere coronal hole hitting Earth in the next day or so. Although this fast wind will be pretty weak overall, it should keep us at unsettled conditions through the weekend. It will also bring aurora shows to high latitudes in through the weekend before settling down. Although the aurora never made it very far south during the previous solar storm last week, we do have the Unicorn meteor shower to thank for the bolide that exploded over southern Wisconsin a few days ago. As reports continue to surface, it turns out that this bolide was seen by many people over a large geographical range. Though most sightings were in Wisconsin, there have been multiple reports in places like California, South Dakota, and Ontario Canada! Learn the details of the coming fast solar wind, watch the new cycle 25 bright region peek up through the coronal hole and boost solar flux back into the marginal range for radio propagation, and see what else our Sun has in store for us!

This Is Why We Can't Just Do All Of Our Astronomy From Space

Published 27th November 2019

There is an existential threat to astronomy as we know it, and it comes from humanity itself. On two simultaneous fronts, Earth's night sky, as seen from the surface, is being polluted as never before. Over the past few decades, the growth of human populations, sprawling urban areas, and technological advances like LED lighting have led to an explosion of light pollution, where truly dark skies have become an increasing rarity.

At the same time, the coming advent of mega-constellations of satellites — where networks of thousands to tens-of-thousands of large, reflective satellites are poised to become commonplace in the night sky — will translate into hundreds of bright, moving objects visible from any location where telescopes are common. If we ruin Earth for ground-based astronomy, we won't be able to simply replace them with space-based observatories for a number of important reasons.

Q&A 108 | Why Are There Meteor Showers Every Year? & More, Featuring Paul Geithner From JWST

Streamed & Published 29th November 2019

In this week's questions show, I explain why we can see meteor showers every year, why we're not 3D printing telescopes in space, why there aren't any plans to launch telescopes with SpaceX Starship. And a lengthy answer to one of the most common James Webb questions we get: can it be refueled? This was answered by Paul Geithner, a Deputy Project Manager for James Webb during a recent livestream.

01:00 Why do we see meteor showers every year?
02:49 Why not also use 3D printing for space telescopes?
04:40 Why don't they design telescopes for Starship?
07:20 Could there be a privately backed telescope?
09:54 Is there glass on the Moon to build telescopes?
11:46 Could ISS help build new space telescopes?
13:47 Space telescopes on the far side of the Moon?
15:06 Is Andromeda actually much closer?
16:27 Why spend money on science?
19:20 Why is the dark side of the Moon illuminated?
21:34 Can James Webb be refueled?

Edward R. Close | Mathematics & The Physical Universe

Recorded September 20th & Published 29th November 2019

Edward R. Close, PhD, is author of Transcendental Physics. He is coauthor (with Vernon Neppe) of Reality Begins with Consciousness: A Paradigm Shift That Works. He is also author of a lengthy chapter titled "The Mathematical Unification of Time, Space, Matter, Energy, and Consciousness" in Is Consciousness Primary? edited by Gary Schwartz and Marjorie Woollacott.

Here he points out that most mathematicians regard regard the findings of mathematics to be ontologically real. Some would go further and say that the physical universe is fundamentally mathematical. Edward Close focuses on the fact that, because physical reality is quantized, mathematical equations that have integer solutions (known as Diophantine equations) are particularly important. He goes into detail regarding his application of Fermat's Last Theorem toward the mathematical unification of the physical universe and consciousness.

Star Trails For A Red Planet

Published 30th November 2019

In today's image, we see a set of star trails. The star Polaris is located near the north celestial pole of the Earth and all of the other stars appear to revolve around it. However, because the axes of other planets are orientated in different directions, they will not point towards Polaris, but towards different directions in the sky. So, while the constellation patterns would remain the same for any observer in the solar system, what would be seen as the North Star would be different. In many cases, there would not even be a bright star that happens to be located near the celestial pole as the Earth's northern hemisphere has at the present time.

Published 1st December 2019

Weather patterns and behavior continue to drift further and further from historical norms. Scientists have just disclosed that highly toxic fog is impacting the California coast, what could be the cause? How many noticed something is not right with the skies or our weather? The US military has stated its desire and intent to “own the weather”, what are their objectives and agendas? Will never-ending political theater keep populations distracted from the rapidly darkening wider horizon until total collapse?
Though the holiday season can provide a very welcomed distraction from the immense challenges we face, it is still imperative for us to continue with our ongoing efforts to sound the alarm.

Comet Death Dives Into the Sun

Published 1st December 2019

An ill-fated comet’s death-plunge into the fiery surface of the Sun has been captured on video by the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) space telescope.
In the interesting footage, the ‘Kreutz sungrazer’ comet can be seen diving directly into the Sun as it goes out in a blaze of glory on Thursday, Non. 29, 2019.

Antares and Messier 4 Transit on SOHO/LASCO C3 solar satellite.
For two to three weeks on either side of November 30 Antares is not visible in the night sky, because it is near conjunction with the Sun. The bright star can be seen from NASA's SOHO/LASCO C3 solar satellite at this time of the year.

Antares is on average the fifteenth-brightest star in the night sky, and the brightest object in the constellation of Scorpius. Distinctly reddish when viewed with the naked eye, Antares is a slow irregular variable star. Classified as a red supergiant of spectral type M1.5Iab-Ib, Antares is a red supergiant, a large evolved massive star. Located 550 light-years away from our solar system.

If Antares replaced the Sun in our solar system, its surface would extend beyond the orbit of Mars. Antares, like the similarly-sized red supergiant Betelgeuse in the constellation Orion, will almost certainly explode as a supernova, possibly in the next ten thousand years. For a few months, the Antares supernova could be as bright as the full moon and be visible in daytime.

Messier 4
Messier 4 or M4, also designated NGC 6121 is a globular cluster in the constellation of Scorpius. M4 is conspicuous in even the smallest of telescopes as a fuzzy ball of light. It appears about the same size as the Moon in the sky. It is one of the easiest globular clusters to find, being located only 1.3 degrees west of the bright star Antares, with both objects being visible in a wide-field telescope.

Modestly sized telescopes will begin to resolve individual stars, of which the brightest in M4 are of apparent magnitude 10.8. M4 is approximately 7,200 light years away, and one of the closest globular clusters to the Solar System.

First Interstellar Comet May Soon Break Apart As It Nears The Sun

Published 2nd December 2019

http://www.astronomy.com/-/media/Images/News%20and%20Observing/News/2019/12/Oumuamua_venting_gas_and_dust.jpg?mw=600

The interstellar space rock was first discovered at a distance of 3 astronomical units, or AUs — with 1 AU being the average distance between the Sun and Earth. Despite being relatively bright, Borisov wasn’t spotted earlier because of its proximity to the Sun in our line of sight.

But recently, a group of astronomers took a look back through older data and found the alien comet in images from last December, where it had been overlooked. Back then, it was nearly three times as far away as it is now.

“By chasing this comet back as far as possible, we can have a better understanding of its inbound trajectory,” said Quanzhi Ye, astronomer at the University of Maryland who led the new study, currently available as a preprint on arXiv. “That will help us to identify its source system.”

Europe's Space Agency Approves The Hera Anti-Asteroid Mission

Published 2nd December 2019

https://cdnews.ru/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/hera_in_orbit-2500x1406.jpg

European ministers in charge of the ESA space agency have approved Hera, a mission that will test whether deflection could save humanity from a rogue asteroid. During the $320 million mission, ESA and partner NASA will send a pair of spacecraft to a double-asteroid system called Didymos. NASA will first crash its DART probe into the smaller asteroid (Didymoon) at a speed of around 13,320 MPH, with the event recorded by an Italian cubesat called LICIACube. Hera will arrive later to map the impact crater and measure the asteroid's mass.

Vikram Lander Found

Published 2nd December 2019

The Chandrayaan 2 Vikram lander was targeted for a highland smooth plain about 600 kilometers from the south pole; unfortunately the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) lost contact with their lander shortly before the scheduled touchdown (7 September in India, 6th September in the United States). Despite the loss, getting that close to the surface was an amazing achievement. The LROC team released the first mosaic (acquired 17 September) of the site on 26 September and many people have downloaded the mosaic to search for signs of Vikram.
