The Coronado Island UFO Incident

Published 10th October 2020

https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/41-rURXUGvL.jpg

On the weekend of March 26-27, 1994, the Triad UFO Conference (funded by billionaire Robert Bigelow) was held at the Del Coronado Hotel on Coronado Island in southern California. Featured were leading abduction investigators Budd Hopkins, Yvonne Smith, John Carpenter and others. Several hundred people attended the conference.

Mike Evans, his wife, and a small group of other friends decided to attend. Unknown to them, they were about to become embroiled in one of the strangest and most unique events in UFO history: a mass UFO abduction. Six witnesses in three adjoining hotel rooms at the Village Inn all experienced an alien encounter on the same evening. Meanwhile, conference attendees at other nearby hotels also experienced extraterrestrial visitations.

Coronado Island is a small, densely populated island, much of which is owned and used by the United States Navy. It's a popular tourist destination, heavily guarded by police and military personnel. In other words, an unlikely location for a mass UFO abduction.

But wait, there's more! At the time of the abduction, the presidential Secret Service swarmed the island. President Clinton was visiting the next day. He planned to stay at the home of Larry Lawrence, US Ambassador to Switzerland, owner of the Hotel Del Coronado and one of the wealthiest men in the United States. Lawrence was a huge donor to President Clinton's campaign. And by some strange coincidence, the home of Larry Lawrence and the Village Inn were separated by only a few thousand feet.

Another thing that makes this case different is many of the witnesses suffered alarming physical symptoms following this encounter and others. One of the witnesses discovered an apparent alien implant in her leg, which was subsequently removed by Dr. Roger Leir, providing incontrovertible evidence of extraterrestrial intervention.

This video presents the Coronado Island UFO Incident from beginning to end, as told by one of the main percipients. Yvonne Smith's excellent book, "Coronado," tells the comprehensive story of this case, with several more new witnesses. You can also read about the experiences of the six experiencers at the Village Inn in my book, "The Coronado Island Incident, (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008R1XWX6/ref=as_sl_pc_qf_sp_asin_til?tag=officialweb0f-20&linkCode=w00&linkId=bda4e91ba7be66607275ac940a24f5d2&creativeASIN=B008R1XWX6)" co-written by Mike Evans.

The NY Times And The Unreported UAP Encounters - Why Accuracy In UFO Reporting Matters

Published 11th October 2020

As UFOs captivate the world; society heavily relies on the mainstream media to offer accurate information. But do they?

In 2019, the NY Times reported multiple Naval encounters with UFOs. And although evidence exists they tried to verify that on an official level, The Black Vault just received documents that show they may not have been able to.

Did the NY Times hide UAP related information they did receive for a year? Did they change the date and timeframe of a UFO case they previously reported on, in an attempt to connect evidence to it that was unrelated?

It’s time for you to decide if you’re hearing the whole truth. From my side – here’s what I found out.

Stay tuned… you’re about to journey INSIDE THE BLACK VAULT.

ADDITIONAL COMMENT: Just to clarify, I should have been more clear about Lt. Graves' sighting, and the one he was relaying third-hand. The NY Times allowed Lt. Graves to relay the information about a sighting from an unnamed pilot who saw the "sphere encasing a cube". Essentially, we are talking about third hand information in regards to that description. However, Lt. Graves also relayed he saw his own unidentified objects on radar (along with Lt. Danny Accoin), and Lt. Graves was also the one who also stated a report was filed on at least one of the objects, also referring to the "sphere encasing a cube" object.

The History channel show "Unidentified" essentially eludes to the sightings around this time frame were all "sphere encasing a cube"-like objects, as they also had Lt. Graves speak about his unknown radar tracks, then relay the description from a pilot who describe the objects physically who saw them first hand. This is why I referred to "Lt. Graves' sighting" as the same, but as you can see from the television show, the NY Times article, and a few other sources, those details vary depending on the source. Sadly, these details that are not clear where they first appeared, also add to the confusion about the reporting and the cases themselves.

However, the points about the incorrect date, what seemingly is not the same encounter characteristics, craft description etc., all stand.

Finding Vaporized Metal In The Air Of An Exoplanet

Published 8th October 2020

https://scx1.b-cdn.net/csz/news/800/2020/vaporizedmet.jpg

WASP-121b is an exoplanet located 850 light years from Earth, orbiting its star in less than two days—a process that takes Earth a year to complete. WASP-121b is very close to its star—about 40 times closer than Earth to the Sun. This close proximity is also the main reason for its immensely high temperature of around 2,500 to 3,000 degrees Celsius. This makes it an ideal object of study to learn more about ultra-hot worlds.

The Moon Is The Perfect Spot For SETI

Published 12th October 2020

https://scx1.b-cdn.net/csz/news/800/2020/themoonisthe.jpg

In less than four years, NASA plans to land the first woman and the next man on the moon as part of Project Artemis. This long-awaited return to the moon is to be followed by the construction of the Lunar Gateway, the Artemis Base Camp and a program of "sustainable lunar exploration." The creation of an enduring human presence on the moon will also create many opportunities for exciting scientific research.

For example, astronomers want to conduct radio astronomy on the far side of the moon, where telescopes could probe the earliest period of the Universe free of terrestrial radio interference. Taking this a step further, a team of astronomers recently recommended that a radio telescope on the far side of the moon (or in lunar orbit) could aid in another important area of research: the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI)!

Russia Shuns US Lunar Program, As Space Cooperation Under Threat

Published 12th October 2020

Russia is unlikely to participate in the Moon-orbiting station planned by the United States, a Russian official said Monday, marking the probable end of the type of close cooperation seen for two decades on the International Space Station (ISS).

The proposed new station, called the Gateway, "is too US-centric, so to speak," Dmitry Rogozin, the head of the Russian space agency Roscosmos, said, adding Russia was "likely to refrain from participating in it on a large scale."

Earth Is Entering A Stream Of Debris From Halley's Comet - Orionid Meteor Shower 2020

Published 13th October 2020

One of the year's best sky shows will peak between October 20 and 22. The Orionid meteor shower. The meteors that streak across the sky are some of the fastest and brightest among meteor showers, because the Earth is hitting a stream of particles almost head on. The particles come from comet 1P/Halley, better known as Halley's Comet.

The Orionid meteor shower isn't the strongest, but it is one of the most beautiful showers of the year. The reason is its setting. The shower is framed by some of the brightest stars in the heavens. Constellations such as Taurus, Gemini, Canis Major and Orion provide a glittering backdrop for the display.

To see the show, experts suggest going outside one to two hours before sunrise, when the sky is dark and the constellation Orion is high overhead. Although Orionids emerge from a small area near the shoulder of Orion, they will spray across the entire sky. Orionid meteors are visible from anywhere on Earth.

Be prepared for speed!
Meteoroids from Halley's Comet strike Earth's atmosphere traveling 148,000 mph. Only the November Leonids are faster. Speed is important because fast meteors have a tendency to explode. Occasionally, Orionid fireballs will leave incandescent streams of debris in their wake that linger for minutes. As many as 25 meteors an hour will dash across the starry sky.

If possible, get far away from city lights (which can hinder the show). The best time to watch this shower will be between the hours of midnight and dawn - regardless of your time zone.

Space Weather News | A Spectacular Solar Flare Fire Plume & New Bright Regions

Published 18th October 2020

Our Sun is definitely waking up with eye-candy to boot! We went from a spotless Sun just last week to multiple bright regions on the Earth-facing disk, including two sunspots in Earth view (and possibly another if you count the big region on the Sun's farside). These regions have not only boosted the solar flux into the mid-70s, but they are also firing off B and C-class solar flares. One of these flares, which occurred just slightly behind the Sun's west limb resulted in the most spectacular fire plume we have seen yet in this new cycle. Likely this flare was larger than we saw at Earth because the Sun partially blocked it from view.Even at a C5-level, it still gave us a gorgeous show. Aurora photographers will appreciate the fact we have a coronal hole that will rotate into the Earth-strike zone later this week. This will begin an extended period of fast solar wind from several coronal holes, including a polar coronal hole we have seen before. Last month the fast solar wind from these coronal holes brought us up to G2-storm levels. We will see if this will be a repeat performance. If so, we expect the peak of the storm to be sometime around October 25. Finally, the farside of the Sun is almost as dazzling as the front side. We have a stunning filament bridge dangling over a big bright region on the Sun's east limb in STEREO's view. It is hard to tell if this filament can hang on until it rotates into Earth view before about these active regions, how radio propagation and GPS reception is faring with all this new activity, and see what else our Sun has in store!

How do you like your weather, natural or man-made?

Even as governments are ramping up CV-19 societal lockdowns, a World Health Organization Official has just issued “an appeal to all world leaders: stop using lockdown as your primary control method”. The public is being told that CV-19 is the core cause of coming food shortages, but this narrative is only a part of a much larger agenda and cover-up. What other objectives are a part of the picture?
Yet more CV-19 vaccine trials have been halted due to safety problems, while the international bankers are issuing CV-19 relief loans to governments around the world. What cost will populations ultimately pay for these loans? Can endless money printing save us from the cascading collapse of Earth’s remaining life support systems?
The NASA satellite image shown below (in the attached link) was captured by Geoengineering Watch on October 15th, 2020. This image reveals the shocking power the climate engineers possess. The constant high pressure “heat dome” over the US West blocks any and all moisture from coming anywhere near the California coast, let alone bringing any relief for parched and burning inland regions. The atmospheric high pressure zones are manipulated and maintained by massively powerful microwave transmission facilities like HAARP. These installations are known as “ionosphere heaters”. The unprecedented drought and wildfire scenarios in the US West are not an act of nature, they are the result of climate engineering operations.

The Mystery Of Saturn’s Giant Hexagonal Storm May Soon Be Solved

Published 16th September 2020

Saturn has a giant 18,000-mile, hexagon-shaped cloud storm that could comfortably fit two Earths inside it, and since its discovery, the mysterious hexagon has left scientists stumped.

Until now.

A recent computer simulation designed by Harvard researchers might provide some clues about what exactly is forming this unusual hexagon marvel.

The high-speed, six-sided jet stream was first discovered in the early 1980’s by NASA’s Voyager flybys.

Using data taken during Cassini’s 13-year mission, researchers from Harvard set out to answer how Saturn’s turbulent conditions could give rise to stable, geometric jets.

The team of researchers built a 3-D computer simulation of Saturn’s hexagon to study its behavior. Find out more in this Elements.

The Oort Cloud | The Solar System's Shell

Published 16th October 2020

What lies at the very furthest recesses of the Solar System? Far beyond the orbit of Neptune and the Kuiper Belt, deep into interstellar space, lies a vast, thick shell of icy space debris. We have never seen it directly, but we know it exists- because it is the source of the most distant comets that we see entering the Solar System. Why is it there?

Moon, Jupiter & Saturn Will Form A Celestial Triangle

Published 20th October 2020

Over the next several evenings (Oct. 21-23) watch for the waxing Moon to sweep by the gas giant planets, Jupiter and Saturn.

On the evening of Oct. 22 the nearly half-full waxing Moon, the bright planet Jupiter, and the fainter planet Saturn, will form a celestial triangle in the southern sky.

The Orionid meteor shower will peak on the mornings of October 21 and 22 too. The Orionids start producing meteors in late evening, but the number of meteors increases after midnight. The greatest number of Orionid meteors streak the sky during the few hours before dawn. You might see as many as 15 to 20 meteors per hour at the Orionid's peak.

If The Universe Is Expanding, Where Is The Centre?

Published 15th October 2020

The Universe doesn't have a centre and the Big Bang wasn't an explosion.

IEtPy0o8i0M

This animated flight through the universe was made by Miguel Aragon of Johns Hopkins University with Mark Subbarao of the Adler Planetarium and Alex Szalay of Johns Hopkins. There are close to 400,000 galaxies in the animation, with images of the actual galaxies in these positions (or in some cases their near cousins in type) derived from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) Data Release 7. Vast as this slice of the universe seems, its most distant reach is to redshift 0.1, corresponding to roughly 1.3 billion light years from Earth. SDSS Data Release 9 from the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS), led by Berkeley Lab scientists, includes spectroscopic data for well over half a million galaxies at redshifts up to 0.8 -- roughly 7 billion light years distant -- and over a hundred thousand quasars to redshift 3.0 and beyond.

OSIRIS-REx Touches Asteroid Bennu

Published 21st October 2020

https://www.nasa.gov/sites/default/files/styles/full_width/public/thumbnails/image/d_tag-2-frames.gif

NASA’s Origins, Spectral Interpretation, Resource Identification, Security, Regolith Explorer (OSIRIS-REx) spacecraft unfurled its robotic arm Oct. 20, 2020, and in a first for the agency, briefly touched an asteroid to collect dust and pebbles from the surface for delivery to Earth in 2023.

This well-preserved, ancient asteroid, known as Bennu, is currently more than 200 million miles (321 million kilometers) from Earth. Bennu offers scientists a window into the early solar system as it was first taking shape billions of years ago and flinging ingredients that could have helped seed life on Earth.

Read all about it here: https://www.nasa.gov/feature/goddard/2020/osiris-rex-tags-surface-of-asteroid-bennu/

xj0O-fLSV7c

Captured on Oct. 20 during the OSIRIS-REx mission’s Touch-And-Go (TAG) sample collection event, this series of 16 images shows the SamCam imager’s field of view as the NASA spacecraft backs away from asteroid Bennu’s surface after touching down. The sampling event brought the spacecraft all the way down to sample site Nightingale, and the team on Earth received confirmation of successful touchdown at 6:08 pm EDT. Preliminary data show the sampling head touched Bennu’s surface for approximately 6 seconds, after which the spacecraft performed a back-away burn.

The Z Machine Recreates A Dying Star On Earth

Published 22nd October 2020

https://cns.utexas.edu/images/easyblog_shared/2018/b2ap3_large_z-machine-infographic.jpg

The age of the universe might be wrong, so a team of astrophysicists are using the Z Machine to recreate a piece of it on Earth. What does it take to resurrect a white dwarf star in the lab?

With its 36 Marx generators and more than TWO THOUSAND capacitors the Z Machine can store MORE THAN 20 MEGAJOULES of energy and fire it at a tiny target at its center.

It’s a powerful device used to uncover the mysteries of our universe.

Although the Z can’t reanimate monsters, it is helping drive innovation in the fields of radiation sciences, material sciences, and fusion studies.

Even redefining the field of astronomy by making experimentation possible.

“Z provides the fastest, most accurate, and most affordable method to determine how materials will react under high pressures and temperatures, characteristics that can then be expressed in formulas called equations of state. Combining theoretical simulations with laboratory work, Sandia researchers are able to perform more precisely than ever before.”

In August 2013, witnesses 1, 2 and 3 were driving on a remote logging road in Ontario, Canada. They had just finished hunting, and were on their way back to camp.

What followed is one of the most interesting close-up encounters with an unidentified object in recorded history. The primary witness is an engineer and has contracts with the Department of Defense, something that has been verified by investigators Phil Leech and Robert Powell.

We spoke with Powell, now with the Scientific Coalition for UAP Studies (SCU), about the case, and why he believes it's so compelling. The primary witness and witness #3 both went on the record to investigators – their testimony, along with a video they recorded, is covered in today's episode.

The Salamanca Humanoids

Published 24th October 2020

Five years after the closing of Project Blue Book, U.S. intelligence was still paying attention to UFOs. Declassified files from 1974 show something even stranger — monitoring of a Close Encounter of the Third Kind, a case involving 6 1/2 foot tall humanoid occupants of disc-shaped craft.

The case occurred in Western Spain, in the province of Salamanca. A Defense Intelligence Agency analyst compiled an account of this and other strange sightings from that year, and sent them to European Command and other "parties interested."

The witness, Maxi Iglesias, claims U.S. officials visited the site to analyze trace evidence left behind, telling him they were from "NASA." For years, this was laughed off, but we now know officials really were monitoring the case.

NASA's OSIRIS REx Mission Ends Up With More Than It Expected

Published 24th October 2020

NASA's OSIRIS REx spacecraft was supposed to grab a sample of the asteroid Bennu so that it could be returned to Earth for analysis. The spacecraft grabbed the sample on Tuesday, but, it's taken a few days to actually get photos of the tool and now it's realized they have a problem with too much material. Larger pieces of regolith have kept the sample head from closing properly, so material is slowly being lost.
As a result, the mission operators are skipping past a number of important tests and going straight to storing the sample for return to avoid losing more.

Space Weather News | A Snake-Like Filament Erupts While A Solar Storm Rages

Published 26th October 2020

This week our Sun continues its upward climb in activity with multiple new bright regions on the Earth-facing disk, including a new sunspot region (region 2778). On top of this we finally had that massive snake-like filament that we first saw in STEREO-A's view on the far side of the Sun launch as a non-Earth directed solar storm. Plus, we are also in the middle of a solar storm due to the fast wind from the northern coronal hole. This storm, which will likely rage for a few more days before settling down, has already brought aurora down to mid-latitudes, and there is a good chance more is to come! Learn the details of the current storm conditions, see where that snake-like filament launch is headed, watch region 2778 emerge and learn what else our Sun has in store this week.

Why Can We See A Yellow Glow Surrounding The Earth In Space

Published 26th October 2020

You can see this yellow layer in the atmosphere in images taken from space, it's quite easy to catch when the skies are dark and the camera exposures are long enough. The glow comes from atomic sodium being excited and then re-emitting light in the 589 nanometer range, it's a colour we're familiar with becuase low pressure sodium lights are still commonly used for street lighting due to Sodium's efficiency.

This Satellite Will Bring The Most Accurate Climate Data We’ve Ever Had

Published 29th October 2020

https://www.nature.com/scitable/content/ne0000/ne0000/ne0000/ne0000/25862478/banner1_resize.jpg

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will soon be taking a historic satellite into orbit that could help us understand how climate change is affecting our seas.

For nearly 30 years, a host of U.S.-European satellites have been working together to gather climate data which has been instrumental in tracking big changes in climate phenomena like El Nino or monitoring ocean features like the Gulf Stream. But these satellites couldn’t capture tiny changes in these environments. And this is where Sentinel-6 mission comes in.

It’s part of the EU’s Copernicus program, the world’s largest Earth monitoring system, which has worked to measure the environment and the role human-caused climate change is having on it.

The mission is made up of two identical satellites: Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich which takes off in November 2020, and Sentinel-6B that launches in 2025.

It’s an international effort between NASA, the European Space Agency, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites, and France's National Centre for Space Studies.

How The Penrose Singularity Theorem Predicts The End Of Space Time

Published 27th October 2020

The Nobel prize in physics this year went to black holes. Generally speaking. Specifically, it was shared by the astronomers who revealed to us the Milky Way’s central black hole and by Roger Penrose, who proved that in general relativity, every black hole contains a place of infinite gravity - a singularity. But the true impact of Penrose’s singularity theorem would is much deeper - it leads us to the limits Einstein’s great theory and to the origin of the universe.

The New York Times has just published a new and extensive report on planetary geoengineering. Though the article has not actually admitted geoengineering programs are already ongoing, that reality is becoming all but impossible to hide. A Cornell University scientist, Dr. Douglass MacMartin, was prominently covered in the New York Times article on climate engineering. MacMartin made the following statement in the report, “we know with 100% certainty that we can cool the planet”. But do Dr. MacMartin’s “facts” hold up under scrutiny? WBAI radio, on the East Coast, hosted a live on-air debate between Dr. MacMartin and Geoengineering Watch, audio excerpts from the debate are included in this broadcast or you can view the full video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HXAFh5fktSU

New Mineral From The Moon Could Explain What Happens In The Earth's Mantle

Published 2nd November 2020

A team of European researchers discovered a new high-pressure mineral in a lunar meteorite which is helping to explain what happens to materials within the extreme pressures of the Earth's mantle.

The new mineral donwilhelmsite is the first high-pressure mineral found in meteorites with application for terrestrial sediments dragged deep into the Earth mantle by plate tectonics. Mainly composed of calcium, aluminum, silicon, and oxygen atoms, donwilhelmsite was discovered within the lunar meteorite Oued Awlitis 001 found in 2014 in the Western Sahara.

Analysis Of A Martian Meteorite Reveals Evidence Of Water 4.4 Billion Years Ago

Published 2nd November 2020

https://scx1.b-cdn.net/csz/news/800/2020/wateronancie.jpg

A meteorite that originated on Mars billions of years ago reveals details of ancient impact events on the red planet. Certain minerals from the Martian crust in the meteorite are oxidized, suggesting the presence of water during the impact that created the meteorite. The finding helps to fill some gaps in knowledge about the role of water in planet formation.

There's a longstanding question in planetary science about the origin of water on Earth, Mars and other large bodies such as the moon. One hypothesis says that it came from asteroids and comets post-formation. But some planetary researchers think that water might just be one of many substances that occur naturally during the formation of planets. A new analysis of an ancient Martian meteorite adds support for this second hypothesis.

How Many Alien Civilizations Are Out There? A New Galactic Survey Holds A Clue

Published 12nd November 2020

https://www.nationalgeographic.com/content/dam/science/2020/11/02/habitablezone/kepler-habitable.adapt.1900.1.jpg

Here’s a good sign for alien hunters: More than 300 million worlds with similar conditions to Earth are scattered throughout the Milky Way galaxy. A new analysis concludes that roughly half of the galaxy’s sunlike stars host rocky worlds in habitable zones where liquid water could pool or flow over the planets’ surfaces.

“This is the science result we’ve all been waiting for,” says Natalie Batalha, an astronomer with the University of California, Santa Cruz, who worked on the new study.

The finding, which has been accepted for publication in the Astronomical Journal, pins down a crucial number in the Drake Equation. Devised by my father Frank Drake in 1961, the equation sets up a framework for calculating the number of detectable civilizations in the Milky Way. Now the first few variables in the formula—including the rate of sunlike star formation, the fraction of those stars with planets, and the number of habitable worlds per stellar system—are known.

What If There Is Life On Venus?

Published 22nd October 2020

https://www.sapiens.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/04_16578744517_7ff0b55898_k_compressed.jpeg

In the throes of a pandemic that has underscored the fragility of human life on Earth, news has come of possible life on another planet, with the detection of phosphine (PH3) gas in the atmosphere of Earth’s cosmological next-door neighbor, Venus.

On Earth, phosphine is produced by microbes, so its presence in Venusian clouds points to the existence of similar forms of microbial life. The biophysicist Harold Morowitz and planetary scientist and author Carl Sagan first postulated the possibility of biological life in the clouds of Venus back in 1967, and some speculation lingered across the decades. However, most scientists had given up on finding life on the inhospitably hot planet.

For part two of our deep dive into The Velikovsky Heresies by Laird Scranton, we talk about the mechanics of the solar system, of circular orbits, of retrograde motion. We talk about the "n-body problem" of physics and how the motions of all the bodies in the solar system is, over the long term, an exercise in chaos mathematics.

We read about how Velikovsky was in communication with Einstein before his death, and that Einstein was skeptical at first but was impressed when one of Velikovsky's predictions proved to be accurate. We read about ancient records comparing Venus to comets and supernova that were visible in the daytime, and about the strange properties of the core of Jupiter.

This episode we talk a lot about magnetism, remnant magnetism in lunar rocks, and calendar changes made by multiple ancient civilizations all around the same time. We talk about immense climate changes that accompanied the sudden change from a 360 day calendar year to a 365 day calendar year.

We also read about problems with various types of radioactive decay dating techniques, and how without knowing the exact amount of certain materials that existed in rock at the time of its formation, these techniques cannot give accurate dates, even assuming that the radioactive decay rate is a constant.

International research led by geologists from Curtin University has found that a volcanic province in the Indian Ocean was the world's most continuously active—erupting for 30 million years—fuelled by a constantly moving conveyor belt of magma.

It's believed this magma conveyor belt, created by shifts in the seabed, continuously made space available for the molten rock to flow for millions of years, beginning around 120 million years ago.

100,000 Stars - An Interactive Visualization of Our Local Stellar Neighborhood

Published 3rd November 2020

100,000 Stars is an interactive visualization of the stellar neighborhood created for the Google Chrome web browser. It shows the real location of over 100,000 nearby stars. Zooming in reveals 87 major named stars and our solar system.

https://stars.chromeexperiments.com/

This is a teaching tool I use all the time in my astronomy classes. It helps students to realize that there are a variety of star systems that exist in the universe. This tool also shows the color and temperature of stars. The color of stars can be a challenge to see in the night sky, so this visualization helps provide a different perspective.

Hubble's Extraordinary ULLYSES Program

Published 5th November 2020

The universe would be a pretty boring place without stars. Without them, the universe would remain a diffuse plasma of mostly hydrogen and helium from the big bang.

To better understand stellar evolution, a new Hubble initiative has been launched called ULLYSES (UV Legacy Library of Young Stars as Essential Standards).

This is the largest observing program ever undertaken by NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope, which will be used to look at over 300 stars. Ultraviolet (UV) light from the target stars will be used to produce a library of the spectral fingerprints of young, low-mass stars from eight star-forming regions in the Milky Way, as well as fully mature high-mass stars in several nearby dwarf galaxies including the Magellanic Clouds.

Milky Way Galaxy Fast Radio Burst Detected For First Time

Published 4th November 2020

On April 28, a supermagnetized stellar remnant known as a magnetar blasted out a simultaneous mix of X-ray and radio signals never observed before. The flare-up included the first fast radio burst (FRB) ever seen from within our Milky Way galaxy and shows that magnetars can produce these mysterious and powerful radio blasts previously only seen in other galaxies.

A magnetar is a type of isolated neutron star, the crushed, city-size remains of a star many times more massive than our Sun. What makes a magnetar so special is its intense magnetic field. The field can be 10 trillion times stronger than a refrigerator magnet's and up to a thousand times stronger than a typical neutron star's. This represents an enormous storehouse of energy that astronomers suspect powers magnetar outbursts.

The X-ray portion of the synchronous bursts was detected by several satellites, including NASA's Wind mission.

The radio component was discovered by the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment (CHIME), a radio telescope located at Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory in British Columbia and led by several Canadian universities. It was also detected by the NASA-funded Survey for Transient Astronomical Radio Emission 2 (STARE2), a trio of detectors in California and Utah operated by Caltech and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. The STARE2 data showed that the burst's energy was comparable to FRBs.

By the time these bursts occurred, astronomers had already been monitoring their source, a magnetar named SGR 1935+2154, for more than half a day using NASA's Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory, Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope, and the NICER X-ray telescope mounted atop the International Space Station.

About 13 hours later, when the magnetar was out of view for Swift, Fermi and NICER, a special X-ray burst erupted. The blast was seen by the European Space Agency’s INTEGRAL mission, the China National Space Administration’s Huiyan X-ray satellite, and the Russian Konus instrument on Wind. As the half-second-long X-ray burst flared, CHIME and STARE2 detected the radio burst, which lasted only a thousandth of a second.

Taken together, the observations strongly suggest that the magnetar produced the Milky Way galaxy's equivalent of an FRB, which means magnetars in other galaxies likely produce at least some of these signals.

Space News | Wal Thornhill: Venus & Forgotten History

Published 7th November 2020

Since the dawn of the Space Age, perhaps no celestial body in the solar system has proved more surprising to astronomers than the planet Venus. Before the arrival of the earliest space probes, some noted scientists believed that Venus would be earthlike, with water clouds, oceans and abundant vegetation. However, well known to those who have followed this series, it was Dr. Immanuel Velikovsky who made the outrageous prediction that Venus would be superhot, based on his hypothesis of the planet’s recent, cometary origins.

Today, countless Venusian phenomena continue to puzzle planetary scientists, including the planet’s super fast winds; its odd, slow backward spin; its vast magnetotail; and even the recent discovery by the ESA’s Venus Express spacecraft of a surprisingly powerful electric field.

In recent decades, Wal Thornhill, Chief Science Advisor of The Thunderbolts Project, has outlined his own reconstruction of Venus’ role in the recent, extraordinary history of the solar system.

In Part One of this two-part presentation, Wal begins by recounting this history, which he offered in his 2004 article, Cassini’s Homecoming, which he wrote prior to the arrival of the Cassini-Huygens spacecraft at Saturn. And as Thornhill explains, while astronomers to this day refer to Venus as Earth’s twin, the most likely Venusian sibling may be found in the Saturnian system – that is, the moon Titan.

2020's Jupiter/Pluto Triple Conjunction

Published 7th November 2020

This year’s Jupiter-Pluto alignment may be the best for centuries to come.
2020 is exceptional for Jupiter and Pluto. These two worlds are having a triple conjunction. They’ll come together, move apart, and come together again three times in 2020.
The first conjunction took place on April 5. The second one came on June 30, and the final one on November 12, 2020. A similarly good Jupiter-Pluto rendezvous might not happen again for a number of centuries to come.

Jupiter-Pluto and Mythology: Heaven Meets Hell?
In Roman mythology, Jupiter (Zeus to the ancient Greeks), is the god of all gods—the ruler of the sky and thunder. In mythology, Pluto (or Hades, to the Greeks) was the god of the underworld. During a Jupiter-Pluto conjunction (meetup), heaven and hell essentially come together.

Plagues, Pandemics & Jupiter-Pluto Conjunctions in History
While not every meetup is quite this eventful, some of history’s most devastating plagues indeed correlated with Jupiter-Pluto conjunctions.

During Jupiter/Pluto conjunctions, political power can swing dramaticaly. These are the years we see regime changes, stunning political landslides, and the birth of social movements.

The Jupiter/Pluto conjunctions of 2020 are just beginning. A Great Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn is coming in late December 2020. This meet up of Jupiter and Saturn will be their closest conjunction since 1623.

While all eyes are focused on the coming election, the covert climate engineering onslaught continues to take its toll.

Atum & The Ennead: Celestial Foundations Of Egyptian Myth

Published 10th November 2020

The world's ancient myths, scriptures and sacred stories can be shown to be based on celestial metaphor -- the same system of celestial metaphor forming the foundation for myths from every culture on our earth, from every inhabited continent and island, including the stories and figures in the scriptures we call the Bible. But, can we find the same system at work in the mysterious myths of the awe-inducing civilization of ancient Egypt? When the system of classical hieroglyphic writing, long forgotten, was finally re-deciphered in the early 1800s, scholars were disappointed to find no comprehensive narratives describing gods and goddesses and their adventures, but rather inscriptions which allude to these deities and their exploits as if we should already know them. However, in spite of this, we have more than enough evidence to demonstrate beyond all doubt that the myths of ancient Egypt have their foundation in the same world-wide system of celestial metaphor underlying the ancient myths of virtually every other culture. This video provides just a few examples, from the myths of the so-called "Heliopolitan Theology," including the emergence of the Benben from the primordial waters, the act of generation attributed to the all-encompassing god Atum, and the gods and goddesses of the Ennead, including in addition to Atum the neteru Shu and Tefnut, Nut and Geb, Osiris and Isis, and Set and Nephthys.

This video contains a presentation prepared for a conversation with Cometan (part 2) but which were not included in that conversation because we ended up discussing other important and thought-provoking subjects. [Posted above]

How To Find Algol The Demon Star In The Constellation Of Perseus

Published 10th November 2020

Algol, also nicknamed the Demon Star, is the second brightest star in the constellation of Perseus. Algol is an excellent example of a variable star since its brightness can change throughout the night. Perseus is an ancient constellation that can be seen during the autumn season in the northern hemisphere. It can be a fairly easy constellation to point out if you know where to look. Perseus has a collection of bright stars and unique star clusters. The two brightest stars, Mirfak and Algol, stand out in the night sky. In this video, we will explore the star called Algol, often nicknamed the Demon Star.

Also is a triple star system. β Persei Aa1 and β Persei Aa2 regularly pass in front of each-other causing eclipses. This system is classified as eclipsing binary stars. In many cultures, Algol is connected with stories of demons, spirits, or monsters. In Greek Mythology, Algol is often represented as the head of Medusa. In Hebrew folklore, Algol was called Rōsh ha Sāṭān, or "Satan's Head". The name Algol is derived from the Arabic term ra’s al-ghul, which means 'head of the ogre'.

Abstract: The presentation will demonstrate the results of a study of how factors in the Drake Equation can be used in a statistical sense to get an understanding of the probability of how often the Earth might encounter a Space Faring civilization. The life time of technological civilizations will be contrasted to the time that the Earth has had to develop an intelligent species with technological capability to be considered a rudimentary Space Faring Species. Further a sufficiently advanced species may have space faring technology of a nature that would be difficult to understand much less intercept. The lifetime of Earthly Civilizations, the differing motivations of Cultures, and the biological diversity of lifeforms will be used to inform the presentation.

Following his very well-received presentation last year, Horace looks in detail at several of the crop patterns from this and recent years and demonstrates his belief that in them we are being given accurate and astonishing information on celestial clocks and calendars, via sophisticated astronomical diagrams.

UFO Cults

Published 10th November 2020

On episode 186 of SOMEWHERE IN THE SKIES, we dive in to a very controversial aspect to the UFO topic and that is UFO cults. From metaphysical gurus to suicidal groups hoping to catch a comet to heaven, the power and danger of belief has caused many groups immense pain and suffering; all in the name of UFO enlightenment and ascension. We run through some of the obvious culprits and some that appear more innocuous. We hear from ex-members of two of the most well-known UFO cults/religions and how they got out, and a new generation of cults springing up to take advantage of the UFO topic, its hardcore believers, and of course, your money.

This presentation was originally broadcast in video form as part of the ALL THE STRANGE 2020 Virtual Conference, produced by Rogue Planet TV.

Stephen Bassett

Published 10th November 2020

The year is 2020.

It has brought us a global pandemic; riots in the streets of America; and a Presidential impeachment trial that turned the United States upside down. But in between those world changing events – the UFO phenomenon has increasingly been given more credibility and more serious exposure on the nightly news programs.

But maybe most of all – the phenomena has revealed itself again to be not only worthy of scientific scrutiny but also worthy of respect by the general public.

My guest today is Stephen Bassett. For nearly 25 years, he has aimed to end what he calls a “government-imposed truth embargo behind extraterrestrial related phenomena.” He organized a Citizen Hearing on Disclosure at the National Press Club in Washington D.C. and he spearheaded political initiatives that injected the ET issue into the 2016 Presidential campaign.

Pending lawsuits and controversy aside, with a new Presidential administration about to take over, how – if at all -- will that change the landscape for the UFO issue that has picked up steam in the past couple of years?

Sonification is the process of representing data as sound.

Rather than looking at a chart or graph, the underlying information can be transformed into audio and analyzed by listening. This technique offers exciting new ways for scientists to study data, and provides blind and low-vision
people a new level of data access and analysis. Astronify is our tool for sonifying archival data from NASA missions. We will discuss the goals of the project and describe how our software converts measurements of a star’s changes in brightness to changes in pitch. After learning about Astronify (https://astronify.readthedocs.io/en/latest/), the audience is invited to play in our online game show to see how well one can hear and identify transiting exoplanets and stellar flares in real data from the Kepler Space Telescope.

Large Volcanic Eruption Caused The Largest Mass Extinction

Published 10th November 2020

https://scx1.b-cdn.net/csz/news/800/2020/largevolcani.jpg

Researchers in Japan, the US and China say they have found more concrete evidence of the volcanic cause of the largest mass extinction of life. Their research looked at two discrete eruption events: one that was previously unknown to researchers, and the other that resulted in large swaths of terrestrial and marine life going extinct.

There have been five mass extinctions since the divergent evolution of early animals 450—600 million years ago. The third was the largest one and is thought to have been triggered by the eruption of the Siberian Traps—a large region of volcanic rock known as a large igneous province. But the correlation between the eruption and mass extinction has not yet been clarified.

Tree Rings May Hold Clues To Impacts Of Distant Supernovas On Earth

Massive explosions of energy happening thousands of light-years from Earth may have left traces in our planet's biology and geology, according to new research by University of Colorado Boulder geoscientist Robert Brakenridge.

The study, published this month in the International Journal of Astrobiology, probes the impacts of supernovas, some of the most violent events in the known universe. In the span of just a few months, a single one of these eruptions can release as much energy as the sun will during its entire lifetime. They're also bright—really bright.

Irene Previn | Pursuit Of The Australian UFO Mystery

Streamed & Published 10th November 2020

Guest, Irene Previn joins us from Australia to discuss her research involving the UFO mystery, she speaks on the Westall Incident, Frederick Valentich, The Knowles Case and much more.

Irene Previn is an Australian visual artist and designer, and keen on uncovering the mystery behind UFOs.

About five years ago, after moving from her home town to work on a new project in Melbourne, Irene heard about Westall incident from her workmates. This occurred in the neighbourhood of her new workplace. At that time, she had never heard of it, let alone of a UFO sighting with over 200 witnesses, so her curiosity was piqued. She then took some of her workmates with her to have a look at the place where it happened.

She was allowed in to Shane Ryan’s private Westall Facebook group and learned more about the incident by watching Rosie Jones’s documentary, Westall 66: A Suburban UFO Mystery.

Surprised to see that no-one was organising any kind of celebration or acknowledgement marking the 50th anniversary of the event, Irene organised one herself. She posted a public invitation to join a picnic at The Grange Reserve, where the saucer was seen hovering close to the ground.

To her surprise, people turned up, even including some of the witnesses who willingly shared details of the experiences. Following the event, James Rigney contacted her requesting a meeting. She did not know him from a bar of soap, and was concerned that he might be a weirdo UFO guy. Prior to hearing about the Westall incident, her idea of anyone that took the sighting of flying discs seriously was, that they needed urgent medical attention.

Over coffee, James convinced Irene that he was perfectly sane, in fact he's quite a nice architect and family man. Irene shared her vision to invite the public to a screening of Rosie’s film, followed by a Q&A panel with the witnesses. James organised the support of a local UFO investigation group to provide funds and helping hands to help make the event happen.

The event was a success, they sold all of the tickets two week before the event! James and Irene worked together to bring James Fox over to visit and film the Westall bits for his film, The Phenomenon.

Through this Irene met her new boss, a mad scientist who works in robotics. She now works as part of a team doing 3d modelling for prototypes and mechanical drafting for fabrication. She also creates collages in her spare time for her online visual art gallery. Luckily for Irene, her boss is equally keen in pursuing the UFO question.

UFO Incident On The USS Clamagore

Published 14th November 2020

https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51whAaDyfXL._SX331_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg

UFOs have often been seen over nuclear power stations, nuclear missile sites, and anything associated with nuclear energy. In 1971, the USS Clamagore, a Navy submarine equipped with nuclear torpedoes, encountered a UFO, or actually a USO (an unidentified submersible object) which approached the sub and paced it for fifteen minutes.

This incredible encounter is only one of many, many instances in which UFOs and USOs have been encountered by the US Navy. This video presents the UFO Incident on the USS Clamagore, as well as four other incredible UFO/USO encounters by Navy and other military personnel. Some of these encounters include a sighting by the crew of the USS Long Beach (a nuclear-powered guided missile cruiser,) a fascinating USO sighting by two retired Navy submariners near San Simeon, California, a highly dramatic USO sighting witnessed by dozens of people off the coast of Redondo Beach, California, and finally a visitation by a fleet of glowing donut-shaped USOs by a US Coast Guard Captain off the coast of Haiti.

In some cases, these UFO events went unrecorded or were actively covered up. This raises the question, how often does our Navy encounter UFOs and USOs and never reveal it? As these cases shows, perhaps more than you might think!

Until recently, there has been very little research into USOs. And yet, if these and other cases are true, then our oceans could be swarming with large numbers of alien craft, most of which remain unseen by human eyes.

It is time for disclosure of all UFO information. These incidents and others should be known by everyone! If you would like to learn more about these and other remarkable USO encounters, please check out my book, "Undersea UFO Base (https://www.amazon.com/dp/1984340700/ref=as_sl_pc_qf_sp_asin_til?tag=officialweb0f-20&linkCode=w00&linkId=ad02ba84a8f64f5442b02c54950182ba&creativeASIN=1984340700),"

Weather On Jupiter & Saturn May Be Driven By Different Forces Than On Earth

A trio of researchers, two with Harvard University, the other the University of Alberta, has found evidence that weather on Saturn and Jupiter may be driven by dramatically different forces than weather on Earth. In their paper published in the journal Science Advances, Rakesh Kumar Yadav, Moritz Heimpel and Jeremy Bloxham describe computer simulations showing that major weather systems on Jupiter and Saturn might be driven by internal rather than external forces, resulting in outcomes such as the formation of large anticyclones like Jupiter's famous red spot.

Iota Causes Devastation In Nicaragua and Honduras

Published 17th November 2020

Tropical Storm Iota continues to bring catastrophic flash flooding and mudslides to Nicaragua and Honduras. Strong winds will remain a threat to those near the center of Iota. Iota could still produce an additional 20-30 inches (500-750mm) of rain in some spots. Flash flooding and river flooding accompanied by mudslides are likely across much of Central America. These impacts will be exacerbated by Eta which struck just two weeks ago.

Fireball Over The South Of Spain

Recorded & Published 16th November 2020

On 16 November 2020, at about 3:49 local time, a beautiful and very bright fireball was spotted over the south of Spain. This bolide was generated by a rock from a comet that hit the atmosphere at about 227,000 km/h. The fireball began at an altitude of about 132 km over Andalusia (south of Spain), and ended at a height of around 61 km over the south of Portugal.

This bright meteor was recorded in the framework of the SMART project, operated by the Southwestern Europe Meteor Network (SWEMN) from the meteor-observing stations located at Sevilla, La Hita (Toledo) and Calar Alto (Almería). The event has been analyzed by the principal investigator of the SMART project: Dr. Jose M. Madiedo, from the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia (IAA-CSIC).

Leonid Meteor Shower

The Leonid meteor shower peaked on November 17th. With a maximum of about 7 falling stars it is not a particularly strong meteor shower, but there have been years in which several thousand falling stars could be seen per hour. However, this year was a normal year. Unfortunately it was mostly cloudy here in Lower Saxony, but when it cleared up, you could watch the meteors nicely. In addition to the Leonids, there were also some Taurids to be seen.

Why We’re Seeing More Gravitational Wave Events Than Ever Before

Published 23rd November 2020

https://www.lsu.edu/images/2015/uppertierpages/stellar_graveyard_noerror_w_em.jpg

LIGO and Virgo recently updated their gravitational-wave catalog with 39 new discoveries, including signals that could help us probe unresolved mysteries about the universe further than ever before.

On May 21, 2019, LIGO and Virgo detected gravitational waves generated by two huge black holes, one at around 66 solar masses and the other at a gigantic 85 solar masses. They combined to form a black hole with a mass around 142 times that of our sun, making it the first ever directly observed intermediate black hole.

It exists in the size range between stellar mass black holes that form when stars collapse and the supermassive black holes found at the center of galaxies. Even the existence of the 85 solar mass black hole is interesting, because scientists think there should be a gap in the spectrum of black holes between 65 and 120 solar masses. A phenomenon called pair-instability should prevent stars from collapsing and forming black holes in this range, so that 85 solar mass black hole could call our understanding of stellar evolution into question.

These 39 new gravitational wave events certainly give us a lot to ponder, but remember that’s just from the first half of observing run 3. Unfortunately, the second half had to be cut a month short because of COVID-19, but with observing runs 4 and 5 still planned for some time in the near future, and the inclusion of data from detectors in Japan and India, expect to see a lot more interesting discoveries from the laser interferometers of the world.

Comet Erasmus Is Brightening Fast

Published 22nd November 2020

Every 2000 years, Comet Erasmus (C/2020 S3) visits the inner Solar System. News Flash: It's back. Discovered on Sept. 17, 2020, by South African astronomer Nicolas Erasmus, the comet is plunging toward the sun for a close encounter inside the orbit of Mercury on Dec. 12th.

Comet Erasmus is brightening as it approaches the sun. Right now it is 7th magnitude--an easy target for backyard telescopes. Forecasters believe it will more than triple in brightness to 5th magnitude by the time it dips inside the orbit of Mercury next month. Only the glare of the nearby sun will prevent it from being visible to the naked eye.

Where should you look?
Look low and southeast before sunrise. Comet Erasmus is in the constellation Hydra just to the right of Venus in neighboring Virgo. The bright star Spica is nearby, too, providing another useful reference point.

"Black 'sand-like' asteroid dust found in box from Japan probe"

Black sandy dust found in a capsule brought to Earth by a Japanese space probe is from the distant asteroid Ryugu, scientists confirmed after opening it on Monday.

The discovery comes a week after the Hayabusa-2 probe dropped off its capsule, which entered the atmosphere in a streak of light before landing in the Australian desert and then being transported to Japan.

The Japanese space agency (JAXA) released a picture of a small deposit of sooty material inside the metal box -- a first glimpse at the results of an unprecedented six-year mission for the unmanned probe.

The dust was found in the capsule's outer shell, agency officials said, with more substantial samples expected to be found when they open the inner container, a delicate task.

"JAXA has confirmed that samples derived from the asteroid Ryugu are inside the sample container," the agency said.

"We were able to confirm black, sand-like particles which are believed to be derived from the asteroid Ryugu."

Hayabusa-2 travelled about 300 million kilometres (200 million miles) from Earth to collect the samples, which scientists hope could help shed light on the origin of life and the formation of the universe.

The probe collected both surface dust and pristine material from below the surface that was stirred up by firing an "impactor" into the asteroid.

"We will continue our work to open the sample-catcher within the sample container. Extraction of the sample and analysis of it will be carried out," JAXA said.

Half of Hayabusa-2's samples will be shared between JAXA, US space agency NASA and other international organisations, and the rest kept for future study as advances are made in analytic technology.

But work is not over for the probe, which will now begin an extended mission targeting two new asteroids.

The patent for 'Craft Using an Inertial Mass Reduction Device.' makes it clear the the US govt holds the intellectual and thus commercial rights.

Incidentally, does this name, Salvatore Cezar Pais strike anyone as rather loaded in symbolism?

Alien Hunters Discover Mysterious Signal from Proxima Centauri

Strange radio transmissions appear to be coming from our nearest star system; now scientists are trying to work out what is sending them

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/alien-hunters-discover-mysterious-signal-from-proxima-centauri/

It’s never aliens, until it is. Today, news leaked in the British newspaper The Guardian of a mysterious signal coming from the closest star to our own, Proxima Centauri, a star too dim to see from Earth with the naked eye that is nevertheless a cosmic stone’s throw away at just 4.2 light-years. Found this autumn in archival data gathered last year, the signal appears to emanate from the direction of our neighboring star and cannot yet be dismissed as Earth-based interference, raising the very faint prospect that it is a transmission from some form of advanced extraterrestrial intelligence (ETI)—a so-called “technosignature.” Now, speaking to Scientific American, the scientists behind the discovery caution there is still much work to be done, but admit the interest is justified. “It has some particular properties that caused it to pass many of our checks, and we cannot yet explain it,” says Andrew Siemion from the University of California, Berkeley.

Most curiously, it occupies a very narrow band of the radio spectrum: 982 megahertz, specifically, which is a region typically bereft of transmissions from human-made satellites and spacecraft. “We don’t know of any natural way to compress electromagnetic energy into a single bin in frequency” such as this one, Siemion says. Perhaps, he says, some as-yet-unknown exotic quirk of plasma physics could be a natural explanation for the tantalizingly concentrated radio waves. But “for the moment, the only source that we know of is technological.”

The detection was made by a $100 million project called Breakthrough Listen, led by Siemion and funded by tech billionaire Yuri Milner under the umbrella of Milner’s Breakthrough Initiatives. The goal of this multiyear endeavor—which began in 2015 with a star-studded announcement attended by Stephen Hawking and other space-science luminaries—is to buy observing time on radio telescopes around the world to search the skies for evidence of technological civilizations. That pursuit, of course, is more commonly known as the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI). To date, no such evidence has conclusively been found despite more than a half century of modest-but-steady SETI activity, with any potential signals almost always ruled out as originating from satellites orbiting Earth or other human-caused interference.

Story continues here (https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/alien-hunters-discover-mysterious-signal-from-proxima-centauri/).

Pfizer executives don’t seem willing to take their own creations, they want others to take them first. Why? In the meantime governments around the world are laying out their strategies for pressuring public acceptance of various experimental vaccines in spite of increasing safety concerns. Cascading climate and environmental collapse continues to fuel unprecedented desperation on the part of the controllers. More science sources are beginning to acknowledge the looming Earth changes, though such sources often falsely blame Nature for what is unfolding. A stunning recent example of diversionary disinformation is a “science” report that blames the unfolding methane release crisis in the Arctic on the influence of the moon. The report made no mention of the ongoing geoengineering operations that are actually at the core of the equation. How long will the “science” community continue with their efforts to cover the tracks of the climate engineers?

The Ursid Meteor Shower Peaks Tonight

Published 22nd December 2020

The Ursid meteor shower will peak in the early morning of Dec. 22, 2020, providing a shooting-star show to skywatchers up before sunrise.

Meteors will appear to be streaming out from the radiant, but they can show up all across the sky.

The Ursids are associated with comet 8P/Tuttle, which was discovered in 1790 and then re-discovered by Horace Tuttle in 1858. The Ursids occur when Earth passes through the trail of dust and debris left along the comet's orbit.

The best time to view the Ursids, radiating from Ursa Minor, will be from midnight on the 21st until dawn. They may be active on the 23rd and 24th, too. The shower itself was first recorded in England in 1900, and als spotted in Germany in the decades following.

You need only clear dark skies and just your eyes to see meteor showers.

Jack Sliwa | UFO/UAP Behavior

Streamed & Published 22nd December 2020

Guest, Jack Sliwa debut on the UFO/UAP topic. Jack discusses his research, including angel hair trace cases, as well as touching on some thoughts of UFO propulsion and much more.

BIO: Jack Sliwa is originally from the Boston area, he earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University in Boston, Mass. and then an MS in Materials Science from Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. While at Northeastern University Jack did a CO-OP at the Charles Stark Draper Labs (CSDL) in Cambridge, Mass. where he worked to design and test Inertial Navigation Instruments. He was selected as CO-OP of the year by the late Dr Draper, Prof. Emeritus of MIT, inventor of Inertial Navigation and founder of Draper Labs. That experience also got me interested in related subjects such as propulsion, communication and sensors of all types.

Jack then moved to California to attend Stanford and spent 40 years thereafter beginning with Silicon Valley labs and companies such as XEROX-PARC as a Member of the Research Staff-I.C and MEMs Fabrication processes.

Jack would describe himself as a now-retired broad based Technologist with 150 patents and more pending in technical areas such as integrated circuit structures and process integration, MEMs, imaging of several types including ultrasound, a variety of display technologies, high-performance microelectronic packaging, thermal control, failure analysis, microscopy of all types, surgical devices, catheters, sensors and transducers. His job descriptions as time progressed ranged from Sr. Engineer, Member of the Research Staff, Sr. Director of Technology Development and V.P of Transducer Technology.

Jack’s interest in UAP/UFOs was prompted by reading a range of credible authors and reports including Jaques Vallee, Olavo Fontes of Brazil, The Black Vault Site, the French COMETA Report, APRO Bulletins, FSR Journals, MUFON Journals, NICAP Periodicals and accounts of the McMinnville, Pascagoula, Oloron and the torrent of blatant French 1954 cases. Further motivators for me were and are the extensive AFU.se site, the NOUFORS (M. Deschamps, Canada) site and the superb Isaac Koi British site. Most recently he read the Dave Marler book "Triangular UFOs-An Estimate of the Situation" as well as the Malcolm Robinson Books "UFO Case Files of Scotland" Volumes 1&2.

Jack did have one UFO sighting decades ago of a disk UFO doing a hockey-stick dive into NASA Ames Research Center and disappearing in Mountain View California. He reported it in a carefully prepared case report and drawing to MUFON.

About 10 years ago in his spare time Jack began assembling a database of UAP/UFO cases and related materials as well as relevant technical articles having a bearing on his own or on his initiated team-explanations herein. That database is about 2.3 Terabytes in size and growing and is computer-searchable using complex and multiple parallel boolean search terms. It has been and will continue to be instrumental in preparing these explanations.

Solar Storm Forecast | Solar Flux & Fast Wind Boost For The Holidays

Published 24th December 2020

This week our Sun gives us some night gifts for the holidays. First we have an extended pocket of fast solar wind that has already brought aurora down to the UK and upper tier of the USA sporadically. It has also sparked some nice storm-time colors at high latitudes! Luckily, this fast solar wind should continue over the next few days through the weekend before it begins to calm down. So, aurora photographers, there is still time to catch some nice shows, especially at high latitudes.(We also have another smaller chance for aurora coming in about a week!) In addition, we also have solar flux getting a boost this week thanks to two new sunspots rotating into Earth-view. This means we are nearly back into the good range for radio propagation on Earth's dayside. Along with more new regions that will rotate into view over the next week, means we should see radio propagation continue to be pretty decent as we roll into the new year. Learn the details of the ongoing solar storming, catch up on gorgeous aurora shots from the continued fast solar wind, and see what else our Sun has in store this week!

Official sources are changing the CV-19 narrative and protocols as they go. In the meantime, new strains of the virus continue to surface. Are we to believe these are just random acts of Nature? Is it reasonable to expect corporate media to tell us the truth? In the meantime the weather makers are wreaking havoc all over the world, further escalating an already beyond dire biosphere collapse scenario. Biden recently stated that “the US needs to defeat” climate change. Does that mean the climate engineering operations are about to be ramped up even further? Psychologists have discovered that experiencing awe inspiring moments change us as humans. Planets and stars have been providing many such moments through human history, but new technology might be changing our relationship with the night sky.

From Medieval monks grappling with the nature of time and Tahitian sailors navigating by the stars, to discoveries of how light reveals the chemical composition of the sun and Einstein's work on spacetime, humanity has always been inextricably linked to the wider cosmos.

Humans have been in awe of the cosmos for the last 20,000 years. Our innate relationship with the stars shaped who we are. Our art, religious beliefs, social status, scientific advances and even our biology.

Jo Marchant, PhD, is an award-winning journalist, speaker and author of the New York Times bestseller 'Cure: A Journey into the Science of Mind Over Body' (https://geni.us/pPrwNi). Her writing explores the nature of humanity and our universe, from the science of the mind-body connection and the mysteries of past civilisations to the awesome power of the night sky.

On This Day In Space | Mars Meteorite Found In Antarctica

Published 27th December 2020

https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/RrKt2F2ZsxnxVeUbE4KyKi-970-80.jpg

On Dec. 27, 1984, a Mars meteorite was found in Antarctica.

The meteorite, known as Allan Hills 84001, was found in Allan Hills, which is a group of hills in Antarctica. It was found by an American team of meteorite hunters from a National Science Foundation program called ANSMET, which stands for the Antarctic Search for Meteorites.

Weighing in at just over 4 lbs., this space rock is considered to be one of the oldest Martian meteorites ever found on Earth. Scientists estimate that it crystallized from molten rock more than 4 billion years ago, when Mars still had liquid water on its surface.

Scientists determined that the meteorite probably came from an area called Valles Marineris. To figure that out, they compared spacecraft data on the chemical composition of Mars with the chemical composition of the meteorite.

Scientists think that the meteorite was ejected into space when Mars got hit by a meteor about 17 million years ago, and that it hit the Earth about 13,000 years ago.

More and more, our solar system seems to be a pretty lively place. Although Mars displays abundant evidence of volcanic activity in its ancient past, the authors of today’s paper argue that they have identified the youngest volcanic deposit yet discovered on that planet. So young in fact, that if true, it would be reasonable to assume that violent eruptions are still possible on that cold red neighbor of ours.

Alien Life On Mars Could Help Humans In Space Exploration, Nasa Scientist Says

Published 27th December 2020

https://www.nasa.gov/sites/default/files/styles/full_width/public/thumbnails/image/titan_infrared_eyes_pia21923.png

For many years of manned missions, scientists have been searching for other planets and moons that could be suitable for human life. However, most of them present very harsh conditions for us. The problem may be solved with a little help from Martians.

American National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) chief scientist, Dr. James Green, believes that the discovery of life on other Solar System planets, like Mars, may allow future astronauts to be genetically engineered into being able to live in the same environments, Green said in a podcast of "Gravity Assist (https://www.nasa.gov/sites/default/files/atoms/audio/gahaysqafinal.mp3)".

The World's Oldest Story? Astronomers Say Global Myths About The 'Seven Sisters' Stars May Reach Back 100,000 Years

Published 22nd December 2020

In the northern sky in December is a beautiful cluster of stars known as the Pleiades, or the "seven sisters." Look carefully and you will probably count six stars. So why do we say there are seven of them?
Many cultures around the world refer to the Pleiades as "seven sisters," and also tell quite similar stories about them. After studying the motion of the stars very closely, we believe these stories may date back 100,000 years to a time when the constellation looked quite different.

On This Day In Space | Auroras Seen On Jupiter's Moon Ganymede

Published 28th December 2020

https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/wVJpawMy5wZVnVELkicj8Z-970-80.jpg

On Dec. 28, 2000, NASA’s Galileo spacecraft discovered auroras on Ganymede, Jupiter’s largest moon.

Galileo launched in 1989 on a mission to study Jupiter and its moons. It also flew by Venus and Earth on its way there.

The spacecraft flew by Ganymede several times while it was in orbit around Jupiter. During this particular flyby, it was looking for auroras. Ganymede was in Jupiter’s shadow at the time, which made it easier for Galileo to see the faint auroras because there was no sunlight.

So Galileo was in the right place at the right time, and it successfully spotted auroras on the moon. The spacecraft has also made other incredible discoveries in Ganymede, like the fact that it has a magnetic field.

No other moon was known to have a magnetic field at the time. Galileo even found evidence of a liquid saltwater ocean beneath the moon’s crust and a thin atmosphere.

On This Day In Space | First Photo Of Earth's Curvature Snapped

Published 30th December 2020

https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/5JngwpvBr2Tfjqd39yHL4K-970-80.jpg

On Dec. 30, 1930, the first-ever photo of the Earth’s curvature was taken.

This photo was taken by Lieutenant Colonel Albert William Stevens (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_William_Stevens), who was an officer in the U.S. Army Air Corps and an aerial photographer. He also happened to be a balloonist, and he once broke a world record for a high-altitude balloon flight.

Stevens took this photo while flying an airplane over South America. He used infrared-sensitive film that worked well for long-distance aerial shots in which the subject was obscured by things like haze.

The mountains he was photographing were more than 300 miles away, and he couldn't see them with his own eyes. But his camera was sensitive enough.

The photo was the first visual proof, that our planet is, in fact, round.

Earth Will Reach Its Closest Point To The Sun This Weekend

Published 30th December 2020

Earth Will Reach Its Closest Point to the Sun this Weekend. Between perihelion and 6 months later at aphelion there is about a 6.7% difference in the intensity of the sunlight reaching the Earth. This is one of the reasons the seasons in the Southern Hemisphere are more extreme than in the Northern Hemisphere.

Perihelion is also when the Earth is moving the fastest in its orbit around the Sun. So if you run East at local midnight, you will be moving about as fast as you can (in Sun-centered coordinates) for your location.

At its closest point, Earth swings to within 91,399,453 miles (147,093,162 km) of the Sun. That’s in contrast to six months from now, when the Earth reaches aphelion – its most distant point – on July 5, 2021. Then we’ll be 94,510,889 miles (152,100,533 km) from the Sun. In other words, Earth is roughly 3 million miles (5 million km) closer to the sun in early January than it is in early July.

Earth will reach its closest point to the Sun for 2021 on January 2, at 13:51 UTC. That’s January 2 at 8:51 a.m. EDT. Astronomers call this celebrated point in Earth's elliptical orbit around the Sun perihelion from the Greek roots peri meaning near and Helios meaning Sun.
