The eyewitness was recording a helicopter flying over the neighborhood just at the right moment. A small black UFO sees the helicopter and shoots close to it, curving slightly, then shooting away before the helicopter pilots notice it. This is 100% typical behavior of alien drones. They are programed to find, investigate, record all data of flying technology. Flying technology is a priority for aliens to gather data on...because this allows them to accurately predict when humans will be capable of long distance space travel.

How Much Longer Will The Hubble Space Telescope Last?

On Sunday, NASA announced that the Hubble Space Telescope had gone into safe mode once again, “due to an onboard software error.” The telescope’s science systems were not affected, but all science operations were suspended while crews on the ground worked to fix the problem. The agency didn’t release any details as to what exactly the glitch was, what had caused it, or what was being done to fix it.

Spacecraft like Hubble enter safe mode whenever an anomaly comes up. Safe mode means the telescope stops pointing toward targets and collecting data, and makes sure its solar panels continue to keep it powered. This helps make the troubleshooting process simpler.

Hubble’s aging hardware was last serviced directly in 2009 by space shuttle astronauts, and engineers estimated back then that it would last until around 2016. “After a few years in flight with all the refurbishes, engineers reevaluated the survivability and reliability of the instruments and started pushing everything much further out,” says Tom Brown, the head of the Hubble Space Telescope mission office.

There are no plans at present for a new service mission. If there is a catastrophic failure that takes Hubble entirely offline, its hard to see NASA greenlighting a repair mission for an observatory that’s over three decades old.

Grays are the most commonly reported type of extraterrestrial.

Im not sure if Grays can be sub-divided. There were some shorter Greys captured in video if you can agree with what you see. The film is difficult to know whats exactly happening so it was easy for me to make a choice and keep it private based on accusations that it was filmed in a cave. Plus there is a good archive of footage to weigh in on. Allison of seeing ufos PA channel on youtube alerted me to watch she seen in the footage. I never knew it until later. So with that said, Ill make that clip unlisted for now to see. The best point in the clip in 1sr clip is at 1:20 to see the incredible fast move left stroking, and than return back.

On the afternoon of January 27, 1967, the three crew members of the first Apollo mission left the transfer van that took them to the launch pad at Cape Canaveral. There, astronauts Roger Chaffee, Gus Grissom, and Ed White entered the command module and began a “plugs out” test (that is, with the spacecraft detached from all umbilicals and external power sources) of the launch vehicle and spacecraft designed to carry them on their mission.

At 6:31 p.m., a spark ignited in the lower equipment bay of the spacecraft. The atmosphere inside was 100 percent oxygen. The astronauts didn’t have a chance.

The evening before the fire that claimed the lives of these three men, loyal viewers had tuned in for “Tomorrow Is Yesterday,” the 19th episode of a four-month-old TV show called Star Trek.

Set in the 23rd century, the groundbreaking series had attracted a loyal following of viewers who relished its serious approach to the genre of science fiction. Among the subset of fans who most valued this element of the show were some of the key people working in America’s space program, who saw the Starship Enterprise and its crew of high-minded explorers as the future embodiment of what they hoped to achieve. When the Apollo 1 tragedy occurred, people had been flying into space for less than seven years. Spaceflight was new and dangerous, and here was a show that made it feel routine. Star Trek offered hope to a nation and a space program in a moment when both had reason to doubt they would ever reach the moon, never mind the “new life and new civilizations” promised in the show’s opening-credits monologue.

This bolide was generated by a rock from a comet that hit the atmosphere at about 72,000 km/h. After the US bought a seat on a Russian spacecraft to send a NASA astronaut to the International Space Station, the chief of Russia's Space Agency Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin claimed that American spaceflight is still “unstable”.

From 2011 to last year, the US relied on Russia's Soyuz launch system to send its astronauts to live on the ISS, with America not having its own capability. In May 2020, Crew Dragon, a reusable spacecraft made by Elon Musk's private company SpaceX, took two Americans to space for the first time on a US-made vehicle in nine years.

However, despite this progress, it appears that NASA will still need help from Moscow.

Revealed by Roscosmos on Wednesday, in late 2020 the Americans asked for a spot for astronaut Mark Vande Hei on Soyuz MS-18, due to go to the ISS on April 9. According to a press release, the request was made very late and interrupted the Russian flight program, but the company accepted it as a way to “confirm its commitment to joint agreements and the spirit of joint use of the International Space Station.”

“The tradition of international crews, which has existed for more than twenty years, will be continued again,” the statement said.

Declassified CIA Document Claims Carl Jung Accused US Military of Covering Up Truth About UFOs

Roscoe Hillenkoetter, the very first director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) once said:

“It is time for the truth to be brought out. Behind the scenes, high ranking Air Force officials are soberly concerned about UFOs. But through official secrecy and ridicule, many citizens are led to believe the unknown flying objects are nonsense. I urge immediate Congressional action to reduce the dangers from secrecy about Unidentified Flying Objects.”

He said this decades ago. Hillenkoetter is also mentioned in this declassified document, a newspaper clipping archived at the time and released now by the CIA. The piece was written by Fred A. Kirsch, a well known UFO researcher. This particular document also mentions Carl Jung. It reads as follows:

This is a reply to the letter (Aug. 6) criticizing Dr. Carl Jung for his belief in flying saucers and his charges that the Air Force has been covering up the truth about these objects. I would like to point out that Dr. Jung is not the first person of integrity and reputation who has made such charges. He is merely the latest. Exactly the same charge has been made by Admiral Delmar Fahrney, former director of the naval guided missile research program, and by R.M. Hillenkoetter, former chief of the Central Intelligence Agency. Both of these men would be in a position to know how much the AF investigation of saucers really found.

If Jung were the only responsible person to make such charges, we could brush the whole thing off as nonsense. However, when a number of pilots, radar operators, and other trained observers agree that the UFOs are real, a serious reappraisal of the situation is in order."

Astronomers are struggling to understand the discrepancies when measuring the expansion rate of the universe with different methods, and are desperate for any creative idea to break the tension. A new method involving some of the oldest stars in the universe could do the trick.

Astronomical physicists have different methods for measuring the present-day expansion rate of the universe, known as the Hubble constant. There are two common methods; one is to measure the brightness of distant supernovae, while another is to examine the leftover light from the early universe, known as the cosmic microwave background. However, these two measurements disagree.

Wendy L. Freedman, the John and Marion Sullivan University Professor of Astronomy and Astrophysics, asks, "Is there a new physics that is missing from our current understanding of how the universe is evolving?"

Russia and China Plan to Put Humans on Lunar Space Station

Two global superpowers are partnering on a moon-based space station

On March 9, the heads of Russia's and China's space agencies (Roscosmos and the CNSA, respectively) signed an agreement to collaborate on the International Scientific Lunar Station (ISLS) — a moon-based space station where humans may one day live and work.

China and Russia plan to lead the development, construction, and operation of the lunar space station, but according to a statement released by the CNSA, they are open to partnering with other countries on the project. The US is currently not involved.

Details are scarce on the ISLS, but what we know so far is that it may be based on the surface of the moon or in its orbit. If on the surface, it'll be located near the moon's south pole.

On 9:40pm on August 15, 2020, while working in a restaurant in Harlem, NYC, 3 strange lights appeared on the sky moving quite fast. They were much more orange in person than the video is showing. After them a new group of lights, again in a triangular form appeared. They might have been either drones or something else but as you can see the plane near the end of the video goes in front of them so they were high up in the sky moving fast. I captured this video on my iPhone 11 pro max. Lights went by coming from south towards north and at one point they just disappeared."

That’s what a research team, led by the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Laurel, Maryland, wants to uncover through a conceptual Earth Transit Observer mission, discussed this week during the virtual 2021 Lunar and Planetary Science Conference. The endeavor is not about confirming what everyone already knows (Earth is, in fact, habitable and inhabited); it’s about proving whether the method researchers currently use to determine if a planet is habitable — and that future telescopes such as NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope will use — actually works.

In 2017, the first interstellar object from beyond our solar system was discovered via the Pan-STARRS astronomical observatory in Hawaii. It was named 'Oumuamua, meaning "scout" or "messenger" in Hawaiian. The object was like a comet, but with features that were just odd enough to defy classification.

Two Arizona State University astrophysicists, Steven Desch and Alan Jackson of the School of Earth and Space Exploration, set out to explain the odd features of 'Oumuamua and have determined that it is likely a piece of a Pluto-like planet from another solar system. If you endured the brutal cold that spilled out of the Arctic and enveloped much of North America in February, this may come as a surprise – for the globe as a whole, this past winter was actually quite warm.

Weatherwise, winter in the Northern Hemisphere (summer in the south) lasts from December through February, and analyses released recently by both NASA and NOAA show that this period was the eighth warmest globally in records dating back to 1880.

The notorious polar vortex usually forms a tight ring above the Arctic. This encourages another river of air circulating lower in the atmosphere — the polar jet stream — to behave itself and flow straight and strong, as seen in the left globe in this illustration:

But sometimes, the whole thing goes off kilter. The higher river, the polar vortex, can weaken and even split in two. In response, the polar jet stream tends to meander, creating big oxbows. This, in turn, can allow cold air from the Arctic to flood south in places, and warm air from lower latitudes to surge north, as seen in the right globe above.

"It was approximately 7:45 PM. Our house is located right on the water next to Tampa Bay.I walked outside to the back of my house to let our dog out. I then noticed a strange cigar like object moving SE to S that I couldn't identify. It was completely transfixing. About 45 seconds into my observation, a orange orb instantly appeared directly to the right of the craft, then blinked out after about 2-3 seconds. It was at this point that I pulled out my iPhone and captured about 25 seconds of relatively shaky video. You can definitely make the object out though. There were no discernable normal aircraft lights and the craft made no sound. In my video, a bird flies by in the foreground of the craft which gives the craft considerable scale. You could also probably determine the speed of the craft, as it's flying just above some cloud cover which should provide reference points for speed determination. As the object moved further away, I stopped taking video and ran inside to grab my binoculars. When I returned a few seconds later, the object was gone."

“Our usual picture of a spiral galaxy is as a flat disk, thinner than a pancake, peacefully rotating around its center,” said Xinlun Cheng of the University of Virginia, the lead author of the study. “But the reality is more complicated.”

Astronomers have known for decades that many spiral galaxies actually have disks with a slight twist to them, like a potato chip or a vinyl record left out too long in the sun. Such twists occur in about 50 to 70 percent of spiral galaxies, including our own Milky Way.

Surprisingly, however, we do not know much about the wave in the Milky Way ...

Splitting the Sky - Exposing the Real Criminals Behind 9-11 and the NWO Agenda

On September 11th, 2008, Mohawk leader Splitting the Sky (John Boncore Hill) spoke on Parliament Hill as the final speaker at the 'March on Ottawa for 9/11 Truth', and he began to name the names of those benefited financially from the attacks of 9/11/2001, and to expose them (companies, individuals, countries and agencies) as being the real perpetrators. He also made a call to action to apprehend the individuals, because the official authorities have failed to do so. Highlights of that speech are included at the beginning of this video.

A few days later, we went to Mohawk territory in Khanawake, near Montreal and we conducted an on-camera interview (*) in which Splitting the Sky systematically went through his research, naming the names and exposing the agenda. He stated the risks which he faced for making these statements, but felt 100% certain about his conclusions, and stressed the importance of bringing out this information. He stated that attempts have been made on his life in the past, in his years of activism, and that he did not fear death.

Several times over the years, Splitting the Sky had said to several friends, "If someone tells you that I died from a slip and fall – don't believe it."

On March 13th, 2013, he was found dead in a secluded area of his hometown of Chase, BC. Media reports say that he likely slipped, fell, and died of a resulting head wound.

A surveillance contractor that has previously sold services to the U.S. military is advertising a product that it says can locate the real-time locations of specific cars in nearly any country on Earth. It says it does this by using data collected and sent by the cars and their components themselves, according to a document obtained by Motherboard.

"Ulysses can provide our clients with the ability to remotely geolocate vehicles in nearly every country except for North Korea and Cuba on a near real time basis," the document, written by contractor The Ulysses Group, reads. "Currently, we can access over 15 billion vehicle locations around the world every month," the document adds.

Although the company told Motherboard it has not sold the product to the U.S. government at this time, the news highlights the scale and reach of car-tracking technology, and the fact that car location data is of interest not just to insurance companies and the finance sector, but to government contractors who explicitly say they want to source the data for intelligence and surveillance purposes.

Direct imaging of exoplanets is difficult, and so far has been mainly restricted to young, massive planets. This amazing animation of four planets more massive than Jupiter orbiting the young star HR 8799 includes images taken over seven years at the W.M. Keck observatory in Hawaii.

There is something terribly exciting about actually seeing an exoplanet. While we have discovered over 4,000 planets outside the solar system, the majority of these worlds have been identified through their influence on their star, either via a dimming of the star’s light as the planet transits across its surface, or the wobble of the star from the planet’s gravitational pull. These are incredibly powerful techniques for planet hunting, but neither allow us to actually lay eyes on the planet itself.

The method to actually see a planet is known as “direct imaging” and it is a tricky process, as the star’s light can easily overwhelm any radiation coming from the smaller, cooler planet. Exoplanet imagining has therefore focused on young Jupiter-sized worlds orbiting far from the powerful lighthouse of the star ...

"On the 12th March 2021, while our ship was in Indian ocean sailing towards Bangladesh, we saw a mysterious light show on the night sky for 20 minutes around 2000 hrs (0800 pm). Our 3rd mate called me and told me about it and to bring my camera to photograph the moment. I went to bridge a minute later. There were also other people on the bridge including our Captain and Chief Engineer. We all saw the same thing. The Captain sir was the 1st one who noticed the light. I saw it 2-3 minutes later as the 1st picture on the video. But our captain sir said, initially when he saw it, it was more smaller and much brighter.

I started to capture a timelapse with 1s exposure and 1 second interval and record 400 photos as you can see it was glowing and expanding in the timelapse, easily visible in naked eye at night. After the light disappeared, I took a photo of our ship's position (Latitude, Longitude, UTC time). We discussed about it, but nobody was sure about what it was or never saw this kind of light before. So, did any other people notice this same event?"

U.S. Space Force would support commercial services to remove orbital debris

WASHINGTON — Vice Chief of Space Operations of the U.S. Space Force Gen. David Thompson said it would make sense for the government to pay companies to clean up space junk if such services existed.

Orbital debris represents a risk to spacecraft and to safe operations in space, Thompson said March 16 in an interview with national security analyst John Nagl, of the Foreign Policy Research Institute.

“I’ll pay by the ton if they can remove debris,” Thompson said, noting that there are no companies that can do that today.

Space debris includes human-made objects like nonfunctional spacecraft and abandoned launch vehicle stages, and fragments from the breakup of rocket bodies and spacecraft. The European Space Agency estimates there are 3,600 working satellites in orbit and 28,200 debris objects. More than 10,000 satellites are scheduled to launch to low Earth orbit over the next decade.

2001FO32 has an elongated and inclined orbit around the sun that will speed it up as it moves past our planet on Sunday.

The largest asteroid to come near our planet this year will swing by Sunday (March 21), giving astronomers a rare opportunity to glimpse a remnant from the birth of our solar system, astronomers say.

The so-called "2001FO32" is big; it's fast; and in astronomical terms, it swings by quite "near" our delicate planet, earning it the title of "potentially hazardous asteroid." But 2001FO32, first discovered in 2001, has a well-known orbit and poses no danger to Earth.

At its closest encounter with our blue orb, the space rock will still be a whopping 1.25 million miles (2 million kilometers) away, about the distance you would travel if you flew 50 times around the globe.

In the early 19th century, Austrian astronomer Joseph Johann Von Littrow earnestly proposed that humans dig trenches configured in vast geometric patterns in the Sahara desert, fill them with kerosene and light them ablaze. The idea was to send a clear message to alien civilizations living elsewhere in the solar system: We are here.

Von Littrow never saw his idea come to fruition. Still, long after he proposed his ambitious plan, we haven't stopped our attempts to contact extraterrestrial life.

Radio actualized the quest to declare Earth's existence. In 1962, Soviet scientists aimed a radio transmitter at Venus and saluted the planet in Morse code. This introduction, the first of its kind, included three words: Mir (Russian for "peace" or "world"), Lenin and SSSR (the Latin alphabet acronym for the Cyrillic name of the Soviet Union). The message was considered largely symbolic; more than anything, it was a test run for a brand-new planetary radar.

In terms of distance, the next attempt to reach ET was far more ambitious. In 1974, a team of scientists, including astronomers Frank Drake and Carl Sagan, transmitted a radio message from the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico toward Messier 13, a cluster of stars about 25,000 light-years away. The image, sent in binary code, depicted a human stick figure, a double-helix DNA structure, a model of a carbon atom and a diagram of a telescope.

The Arecibo message was, quite literally, a shot in the dark. It will take around 25,000 light-years to reach Messier 13 — at which point, the star cluster will have moved, according to the Cornell University Department of Astronomy. Hypothetical aliens might still be able to detect the signal as it whizzes past — it has 10 million times the intensity of radio signals from our sun. (The sun emits a wide spectrum of electromagnetic radiation — from ultraviolet to radio.) But that's unlikely, said Seth Shostak, an astronomer at the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) Institute.

Voyagers 1 and 2 were launched in 1977 to explore the outer reaches of our solar system and interstellar space. Each carries a Golden Record containing music, ambient sounds from Earth and 116 images of our planet and solar system.

But what are the chances of aliens dropping the needle and digging the sounds?

"It was, in some sense, the most powerful message. It's like a giant billboard on I-5, but it's off in a field somewhere.It was just a beautiful and poetic, lovely, brave attempt that really did sum up kind of the best of us, even if it's pointless in terms of actually communicating," said Sheri Wells-Jensen, a linguist at Bowling Green State University in Ohio who specializes in extraterrestrial intelligence.

Icelandic volcano subsiding after first eruption in 900 years

A volcano that spewed glowing red lava near Iceland's capital Reykjavik after awakening for the first time in 900 years appeared to be subsiding on Saturday, posing no danger to people, experts said.

Streams of red lava bubbled and flowed out of a fissure in a valley in Geldingadalur, just 40 kilometres (25 miles) from the capital and near a popular tourist destination, the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa.

Iceland has 32 volcanic systems currently considered active, the highest number in Europe. The country has had an eruption every five years on average. The Krysuvik system has been inactive for the past 900 years, according to the IMO, while the last eruption on the Reykjanes peninsula dates back almost 800 years and lasted about 30 years, from 1210 to 1240.

Jupiter’s otherworldly glimmer of polar auroras is periodically brightened by brief but intense early morning displays known as dawn storms. Now, for the first time, scientists have figured out where dawn storms come from, how they grow, and that they're even more powerful than expected.

Scientists knew about dawn storms from telescopes in space and on Earth. But most of those instruments only provided partial glimpses of the storms, showing whatever was visible on the side of Jupiter that faced the sun.

Enter the Juno mission. The Ultraviolet Spectrograph on NASA's Juno spacecraft filled in the gaps by capturing this glowing phenomenon from overhead for eight hours at a stretch.

In an article published in the journal SciPost Physics, Prof. Pedro Schwaller and Wolfram Ratzinger of the NANOGrav Collaboration report that the signal is consistent with both a phase transition in the early universe and the presence of a field of extremely light axion-like particles (ALPs). The latter are considered as promising candidates for dark matter.

The special thing about the gravitational waves which the NANOGrav Collaboration has detected for the first time is that they have a very low frequency of 10 to the eighth power Hertz, which equates to approximately one oscillation per year. Due to their correspondingly large wavelength, in order to detect them any detector would also have to be equally large. As such a detector is not possible here on Earth, the astronomers at NANOGrav use distant pulsars and their light signals as huge detectors.

THIS extraordinary image, taken as dusk approaches, is a murmuration – a huge swarm of starlings moving and pulsating as a single spectacular mass in the sky. Murmurations can comprise up to hundreds of thousands of flying starlings, though few are quite as dramatic as this one. Photojournalist James Crombie captured it over Lough Ennell, a lake near Mullingar in Ireland, after more than 50 visits in which he took hundreds of shots.

How the birds manage to avoid collisions is still a bit of a mystery, but one idea suggests that when certain starlings initiate a turn, the decision spreads through the rest of the murmuration like a wave.

Starting sometime in April or May, depending on latitude, one of the largest broods of 17-year cicadas will emerge from underground in a dozen states, from New York west to Illinois and south into northern Georgia. This group is known as Brood X, as in the Roman numeral for 10.

There are perhaps 3,000 to 4,000 species of cicadas around the world, but the 13- and 17-year periodical cicadas of the eastern U.S. appear to be unique in combining long juvenile development times with synchronized, mass adult emergences.

What do cicadas do underground for 13 or 17 years? What do they eat? Why are their life cycles so long? Why are they synchronized? And is climate change affecting this wonder of the insect world?

We study periodical cicadas to understand questions about biodiversity, biogeography, behavior and ecology—the evolution, natural history and geographic distribution of life. We've learned many surprising things about these insects: For example, they can travel through time by changing their life cycles in four-year increments. It's no accident that the scientific name for periodical 13- and 17-year cicadas is Magicicada, shortened from "magic cicada."

The city’s longevity attests to the craftsmanship and practical prowess of its builders

Hiram Bingham, the American explorer who introduced the world to Machu Picchu, reported that “the Inca were good engineers” in 1913. A thorough inspection of the site, however, leaves you with the feeling that Bingham’s remark was almost an understatement.

The ancient city — which flourished for just over a hundred years between the mid-15th and mid-16th centuries — is rightly famous for its intricate, masterful stonemasonry. But experts say most of the ingenuity is subtler, often invisible to the untrained eye: drainage infrastructure, slope stabilization, and above all, an overarching vision.

“We’ve scurried around, looked at every hole and every doorway, and the whole thing is beautifully planned. It is a completely designed city,” says Ruth Wright, a historian and travel writer, who formerly served in the Colorado legislature. Ruth and her husband Ken Wright, a civil engineer, have studied Machu Picchu over some two dozen trips.

In light of its location, the achievement is even more impressive. The site receives up to 80 inches of rain annually, sits atop steep landslide-prone slopes, and lies upon active fault lines.

"They started out with a hostile environment. They did not have the wheel, they did not have iron or steel, and they did not have written language,” Ken says. “It would seem impossible that they could build something like this.”

He skipped class, and his professors never took him seriously. Moreover, Einstein never performed spectacularly in school. He did so poorly that he nearly decided to drop out and sell life insurance.

Things got worse when he got into college. His carefree attitude towards conventional learning offended his professors. Hermann Minkowski, his mathematics professor, used to call Albert Einstein a lazy dog. Interestingly, Minkowski spent his later life developing a geometric representation of Einstein's special theory of relativity.

WASHINGTON — Lockheed Martin announced March 23 it has signed an agreement with Omnispace to share business and technical information on the deployment of 5G networking technology in space.

Virginia-based Omnispace is developing a hybrid space and ground network to provide 5G and internet of things services. Lockheed Martin said the “strategic interest agreement” with Omnispace does not involve any financial investment and is intended to explore joint development of 5G mobile broadband capability from space.

Lockheed Martin, the nation’s largest military contractor, is interested in applying commercial broadband and wireless technologies for government use. The ability to transmit large amounts of data at high speeds and low latency is one capability that Lockheed Martin wants to bring to the government market.

Spring officially got underway here on Earth's Northern and Southern Hemispheres just a few days ago with the arrival of the vernal equinox. The coming and going of seasons is possible when a planet has a tilted axis — and both Earth and Saturn have a lean in their spins.

But there's a big difference in their length of seasons. Earth takes one year to orbit the sun, during which our planet experiences the cold and dreary, the sunny and delightful, and every seasonal middle-ground in between. But Saturn, the sixth planet from the sun, takes 29 Earth years to go around our star once. Earth moves through all its seasons repeatedly all the while Saturn remains in just one season; it takes roughly seven Earth years for Saturn to begin and end one of its seasons.

More inexplicable sightings of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) will be released for public scrutiny in June — including a UFO that broke the sound barrier without producing a sonic boom.

A research team led by University College London archaeologists has discovered a 5,000-year-old dismantled stone circle in west Wales, close to Stonehenge’s bluestone quarries. The discovery, reported in a paper in the journal Antiquity, raises the possibility that a 900-year-old legend about Stonehenge being built from an earlier stone circle contains some truth.

"Located on legendary Mount Killaraus, the circle was dismantled by Merlin and shipped to Amesbury on Salisbury Plain by a force of 15,000 men, who had defeated the Irish and captured the stones.

According to the legend, Stonehenge was built to commemorate the death of Britons who were treacherously killed by Saxons during peace talks at Amesbury. Merlin wanted the stones of the Giants’ Dance for their magical, healing properties.”

The Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) has just snapped a new image of the massive object lurking at the centre of the Messier 87 (M87) galaxy – this time, in polarised light. Astronomers think this is exciting stuff, because it’s the first time that polarisation – a signature of magnetic fields – has been measured so close to the edge of a black hole.

“We are now seeing the next crucial piece of evidence to understand how magnetic fields behave around black holes, and how activity in this very compact region of space can drive powerful jets that extend far beyond the galaxy,” says Monika Mościbrodzka, co-author of the new research and a researcher at Radboud University in the Netherlands.

Considered the world's first analog computer, this marvel of ancient engineering used dozens of bronze gears to predict the positions of the moon, sun, and five planets, as well as the timing of solar and lunar eclipses.

Divers discovered the Antikythera Mechanism while exploring a Roman-era shipwreck in 1901, but the ancient computer was in far from pristine condition — only about a third of it had survived the 2,000 years underwater.

Researchers have been trying to understand how the Antikythera Mechanism worked ever since — and now, a team from University College London (UCL) may have finally cracked its code.

The device was found in one big chunk that was later broken into 82 fragments. In 2005, researchers took CT scans of the fragments, revealing text that hadn't been read since before the device landed itself at the bottom of the Aegean Sea. Using that text — and a Greek philosopher's math theory — the UCL team created a computer model of the part of the Antikythera Mechanism that depicts the cycles of the sun, moon, and planets ...

He was born Marvel Whiteside Parsons in 1914 and named after his father — but when Marvel Sr. left the family, his mother took to calling him John. Then, after an out of body experience well into his occult days, he was called Belarion Armiluss Al Dajjal, Antichrist, and finally just Jack. Although Parsons came from a wealthy family, he himself seemed to have little regard for money. At various times in his life he was fabulously wealthy, living next door to beer baron August Busch in a huge mansion, and at others illegally making and selling nitroglycerin in his garage to pay the rent.

When he was 14 years old, Parsons started experimenting with fuel that could be used to propel rockets. He didn’t graduate from college but opted to work for Hercules Powder and then Halifax Explosives which was in the Mojave Desert.

Parsons and his best friend Edward S. Forman got their kicks from experimenting with rockets and explosives in the Arroyo Seco in Pasadena. They made connections at the Guggenheim Aeronautical Laboratory, California Institute of Technology (GALCIT). Parsons, Foreman, and Caltech grad student Frank Malina (later of NASA) were dubbed the "Suicide Squad" by students after nearly killing themselves in the desert several times. In 1944, GALCIT became the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and Parsons is credited with being one of the founders. Later, when Parsons' extracurricular activities became more well known, Caltech kicked him out.

In 1939, Parsons was introduced to the works of Aleister Crowley, an occultist writer, practitioner of black magic and founder of the religion of Thelema. and he joined the Ordo Templi Orientis (OTO), an international secret society led by Crowley. Parsons joined the OTO’s local group called the Agape Lodge, which was based in Pasadena and led by Wilfred Smith.

In 1942 he, Forman, Malina and Theodore von Karman founded Aerojet Corporation whose first product was the Jet Assist Take Off (JATO) rocket motors, used extensively during WWII. The company did well.

With the money he was getting from Aerojet, Parsons could support his spiritual activities. He got a huge house on South Orange Grove Blvd. in Pasadena and relocated the Agape Lodge to the downstairs. He and adventurous wife Helen lived in the largest room upstairs and turned it into a temple. The other rooms were used by Smith and an unconventional and revolving group of occultists, eccentrics, artists, dope fiends, and engineers.

With so many people living in such close quarters, it didn’t take long for Smith and Helen to have an affair and a son. Parsons divorced Helen and immediately took up with her teenage sister, Sara Elizabeth Northrup, known as Betty.

About that time a man named L Ron Hubbard came on the scene, after receiving a medical discharge from the Navy at the Pasadena Area Station Hospital. Hubbard and Parsons met through a common interest in science fiction and the occult. Hubbard was looking for a place to land and moved into the house despite having a wife and two kids in Washington State, and it didn’t take the charismatic future Scientology founder long to integrate himself into the life and practices of the group.

Parsons and Hubbard engaged in an 11-day, multi-stage, ceremonial ritual called Babalon Working to manifest the “Scarlet Woman,” fulfilling a prophecy of Aleister Crowley, who had been in close contact with Parsons. There's a whole season of soap operas between the Rocket Scientist and the Founder.

Parsons needed income, so he and Hubbard and Betty started a new business venture called Allied Enterprises. They were planning to buy sail boats on the East Coast and bring them to California for resale. Hubbard contributed about $1,100 to the company against Parsons nearly $21,000. In April 1946, Hubbard and Betty left town with the majority of Allied’s money and were found living on a boat in Miami with no intention of returning to California. Parsons went to Florida and discovered that Hubbard had actually bought three boats. Parsons sued Hubbard who was ordered to give Parsons two of the boats and repay the money he absconded with, which he never did. Then Hubbard married Betty. Then Parsons married Elizabeth Cameron, whom he believed had been conjured by himself and Hubbard during the Babalon Working ritual.

In order to make ends meet later in his life, Parsons found work at North American Aviation Company and later Hughes Aircraft. While at Hughes Aircraft, Parsons was working with Israel to design and build a plant to develop explosives and armaments. He used his security clearance, necessary to work with governments and rockets, to take home confidential documents. He claimed they were old ones he was using to add to his resume, but the FBI started investigating him for spying. This got him fired from Hughes.

Parsons never stopped experimenting with new ideas on his own, and on June 17, 1952, there was an explosion which neighbors a mile away heard. Parsons blew himself up, and died shortly after arriving at the hospital. He was 37 years old. His mother lived nearby, and they had always maintained a very close relationship. She was distraught about the death of her son, and immediately overdosed on sleeping pills and died in her chair.

Parsons legacy included many patents for liquid and solid fuel for rockets. A specimen of one of his solid fuel motors is on display at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum. In 1972 he was honored by having a crater on the moon name after him. The crater is simply called "Parsons" and it is located, appropriately, on the dark side of the Moon.

A new ocean-mapping expedition is drawing the boundaries of Zealandia, a submerged "lost continent" that hosts New Zealand and the territory of New Caledonia in the South Pacific.

Zealandia broke off from the supercontinent Gondwana between 79 million and 83 million years ago. Except for New Zealand and New Caledonia, this fragment of continental crust now sits on the ocean floor. It's not the only bit of continental crust that's detached from a larger continent, but it is the largest at 1.9 million square miles (4.9 million square kilometers). That's six times larger than the next-largest continental fragment, the microcontinent of Madagascar.

Zealandia, also known as Te Riu-a-Māui in Māori, was assigned continental status in 2017. Since then, researchers have been working to map the lost continent — no easy feat, as 94% of it is under water.

Imagine you are an ordinary interstellar starship commander. You set off on a trip to a nearby star, accelerating to a significant percentage of the speed of light. You know that after a certain period of time you must slow down. But before you start the maneuver, you check your speed and position. A quick look out of the window should confirm everything.

That’s when the problems begin. The pattern of stars outside is nothing like the one where you started so you can no longer use the familiar constellations to help you orient and navigate. It turns out that navigating is much harder for starship commanders than you imagined.

In the future, however, you and your colleagues will be able to turn to the work of Coryn Bailer-Jones at the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy in Germany who has developed a way to determine the position and velocity of a spacecraft traveling through our neighborhood. His AI-guided approach can pinpoint position to within about 500 million kilometers, just a few times the distance from the Earth to the Sun.

A Doggerland of the Great Lakes? Underwater rock formations on the lakebed of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron may have been created by hunters thousands of years ago.

In 2007, underwater archeologist Mark Holley was scanning for shipwrecks on the bottom of Lake Michigan’s Grand Traverse Bay. Instead, he stumbled on a line of stones thought to be constructed by ancient humans — including one stone with what appeared to be a carving of a mastodon. The subsequent press conference generated excited headlines about a “Stonehenge-like structure” found under Lake Michigan.

But these sensationalized headlines are misleading: there’s no “henge” to the structure. The stones are small and arranged in a V-shape instead of a circle. Plus, the supposed-mastodon image hasn’t been analyzed to prove whether it’s a carving or a natural feature of the rock.

The real underwater stone sensation lies 120 feet below neighboring Lake Huron: an area the size of a football field with dozens of 9,000-year-old artifacts and human-built stone structures that comprise the most complex prehistoric hunting structure ever found beneath the Great Lakes.

“It’s a Pompeii-type situation. Everything is totally preserved in cold, clear freshwater. You don’t get that often in archaeology,” says John O’Shea, an anthropology professor at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, who has led the research on underwater sites in Lake Huron.

These underwater antiquities give us a glimpse of how prehistoric human communities worked together.

Romania’s Bermuda Triangle: The Creepy Hoia Forest of Transylvania

Outside of Romania, especially in the English-speaking world, Transylvania is a land associated with vampires. Inside Romania, where Vlad Dracul , or Vlad the Impaler , is a national hero, the story of the vampire is not as popular, though Transylvania is arguably still known for being home to one of the creepiest forests in the world. This forest also happens to be near the oldest Neolithic archaeological site in the country. The Hoia Baciu forest, whether it is deserved or not, has earned the reputation of being the Bermuda Triangle of Romania, and probably all of eastern Europe.

The forest is said to have been named Hoia Baciu after a shepherd by the same name went missing in the forest with 200 of his sheep. In the late 1960s, a biologist by the name of Alexandru Sift is said to have taken pictures of a disc or flying saucer hovering over the forest. In 1968, a military technician by the name of Emil Barnea is said to have taken a picture of a UFO. It is claimed that he had no reason to make the story up since he had nothing to gain. The communist government at the time considered belief in the paranormal to be a sign of insanity and a threat to the state.

Outside of paranormal activity, Hoia Baciu is known for being part of a wilderness area just outside the bustling Romanian city of Cluj-Napoca. It is also a recreational area with numerous hiking trails and biking paths. Other nearby attractions are an open-air museum and the oldest Neolithic archaeological site in Romania, Gura Baciului.

Gura Baciului dates to perhaps 6,500 BC. It is associated with the Starcevo-Koros-Cris archaeological complex which is believed by most researchers to represent some of the earliest farmers in Europe.

March's full moon — by some accounts a supermoon — will dazzle skywatchers this Sunday (March 28), as spring's warm weather invites more people to venture outside to gaze upward.

The full moon lasts just an instant, but dedicated moon watchers can catch it at 2:48 p.m. EDT (18:48 UTC) on Sunday, when the moon appears opposite the sun in Earth-based longitude, according to a NASA statement. People who miss this fleeting moment will still be able to see a big, round moon — the rocky satellite will appear full for three days, from Saturday morning (March 27) through early Tuesday morning (March 30).

Edward Snowden’s Comments On E.T. Reveal How Deep Government Secrecy May Go

What Happened: In his book Permanent Record, NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden states, “For the record, as far as I could tell, aliens have never contacted Earth or at least they haven’t contacted US intelligence.” He also addressed the topic on Joe Rogan’s podcast, stating that that he had “ridiculous access to the networks of the NSA, the CIA, the military, all these groups. I couldn’t find anything. So if it’s hidden, and it could be hidden, it’s hidden really damn well, even from people who are on the inside.”

Why This Is Important: According to the estimates of some, the US government alone classifies up to 500 million pages of documents every single year, for the purpose of protecting ‘national security.’ Our world is drenched in secrecy, and it’s reached a point where we don’t really know what’s happening on our planet. The United States has a history of government agencies existing in secret for years. The National Security Agency (NSA) was founded in 1952, its existence was hidden until the mid 1960’s. Even more secretive is the National Reconnaissance Office, which was founded in 1960 but remained completely secret for 30 years. “National security” has now become an umbrella term to classify any information that threatens certain corporate or political agendas.

The advent of human flight not only boosted our power of movement, but also enhanced our vision: We gained the ability to see the Earth from above. Before the Wrights’ epochal breakthrough, there had been perhaps thousands of human flights, mostly in balloons. But it was the advent of the airplane—a whole new way of seeing and experiencing our planet with speed and control—that led to euphoric reactions across the world. Wilbur and Orville caused the eruption with their first public flights in the summer and early fall of 1908.

In order to appreciate just how big the news was, it’s important to remember the widespread skepticism of the Wrights’ claims to have perfected a fully practical flying machine. They did not hide their machine during its development through 1905, but didn’t exactly invite crowds either. On February 10, 1906, the New York Herald put it bluntly: “The Wrights have flown or they have not flown. They possess a machine or they do not possess one. They are in fact either fliers or liars.”

But when they flew for the public—Wilbur first, on August 8, 1908, in Le Mans, France—the press reports were breathless: “I’ve seen him! I’ve seen them!” a reporter for Le Figaro cried. “There is no doubt! Wilbur and Orville Wright have well and truly flown!” Wilbur’s flights came on the heels of earlier French and American successes by other competitors: Henry Farman winning the Deutsch-Archdeacon prize for a one-kilometer circular flight; Glenn Curtiss winning the Scientific American Cup for a one-kilometer straight-line flight in his June Bug. But Wilbur’s flights in France, and then Orville’s at Fort Myer, Virginia, were longer and in greater control by far than anything that had come before. “WORLD’S AIR SHIP RECORD SMASHED BY ORVILLE WRIGHT AT FT. MYER, VA.,” blared the Washington Times on September 13 after he flew for more than an hour.
