Female Octopuses Throw Things At Males That Are Harassing Them

And who can blame them?

An analysis of footage of octopuses off the coast of Australia “throwing” shells and silt suggests that they intentionally target – and often hit – other octopuses (octopi?). In most cases, it is females that do the throwing, often at males that are harassing them.

In 2015, Peter Godfrey-Smith at the University of Sydney and his colleagues filmed several common Sydney octopuses (Octopus tetricus) interacting at a site in Jervis Bay dubbed “Octopolis”. It is one of the few places in the otherwise sandy sea bottom where octopuses can make dens, so there are an unusual number in a small area.

The cameras captured fights, matings and an extraordinary behaviour that the team calls throwing. “It’s hard to know how best to describe it,” says Godfrey-Smith. The octopuses hold silt, algae or objects such as shells under their bodies in their tentacles, then angle their siphons and shoot a jet of water at the projectiles, propelling them up to several body lengths.

For example, one female octopus threw silt 10 times at a male from a nearby den who was attempting to mate with her. She hit him on five occasions. On four of these occasions, the male tried to “duck”, though he didn’t always succeed. In two cases, he anticipated the throws from the female’s movements and started dodging before the silt was propelled at him.

This video captures plasma in the sun's middle corona at two different temperatures (gold: 1.4 million degrees Fahrenheit or 800,000 degrees Celsius blue: 2.7 million degrees F or 1.5 million degrees C), revealing how the charged particles flow in and out of the middle region, creating a connection between the the inner corona and the outer corona.

Recent telescope views shed new light on the sun's elusive middle corona that could prove beneficial to space weather forecasts. Using the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) GOES-17 satellite, researchers from the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) captured the first-ever images of the sun's middle corona — also known as the sun's outer atmosphere — and the dynamics that trigger solar wind and the big eruptions dubbed coronal mass ejections. This will help to answer questions about how the sun's outer atmosphere connects to the surface of the star.

Many readers may be familiar with the controversial case of the Gulf Breeze, Florida, UFO photographs taken in 1987 by local contractor Ed Walters. The photos were clear and detailed and stirred up a great deal of excitement within the UFO community. Some, such as former Navy optical physicist turned UFO researcher Dr. Bruce Maccabee, believed the photos were genuine, while others believed they were hoaxed.

Then, in 1990, after Walters and his family had moved from their home at the time, the new owners found a Styrofoam model of a UFO in the attic. Pensacola News Journal reporter Craig Meyers was able to closely duplicate Walters’s photos using the model, and Walters responded to hoax allegations by claiming the model had been planted after he left.

What do space rock pioneers Jon Anderson of Yes and Daevid Allen of Gong have in common?

None other than actor Sherman Hemsley aka George Jefferson of the long-running All In The Family spin-off sitcom The Jeffersons.

Hemsley, a keyboardist with a background in jazz as well as a veteran of the Air Force and Broadway, was a dedicated fan of the "progressive" rock movement of the 70's and beyond. He once appeared on The Dinah Shore Show and spent his entire segment extolling the virtues of Gentle Giant to the baffled and smiling talk show hostess.

In this episode of The Jeffersons, "Sherm" managed to convince the writers to include the music of one of his favorite bands, Nektar:

Anyway, we get into this stretch limousine with Sherman and immediately there's this big joint being passed around. I say, 'Sorry man, I don't smoke.' He says, 'You don't smoke and you're from Gong?'

Inside the front door of Sherman's house was a sign saying, 'Don't answer the door because it might be the Man.' There were two Puerto Ricans who had an LSD laboratory in his basement, so they were really paranoid. They also had little freebase depots on every floor. Then Sherman says, 'Come on upstairs and I'll show you the Flying Teapot room.' Sherman was very sweet but was surrounded by these really crazy people.

We went up to the top floor and there was this big room with darkened windows and "Flying Teapot" is playing on a tape loop over and over again. There were also three dumb-looking, very voluptuous Southern gals stoned and wobbling around naked. They were obviously there for the guys to play around with.

My girlfriend and I were really tired and went to our room to go to bed. The next day we came down (and) Sherman took us to see these Hollywood PR people. They said, 'Well, Mr Hemsley wants us to get the information we need in order to do these Flying Teapot billboards on Sunset Strip.' I looked at them and thought they were the cheesiest, most nasty people I had ever seen in my life and I gave them the runaround. I just wanted out of there. I liked Sherman a lot. He was a very personable, charming guy. I just had a lot of trouble with the people around him."

New research published in The Astrophysical Journal indicates that galaxies consume enormous gas clouds to form stars and then release polluted gases filled with various elements back out into their environment after those stars die. A team of astronomers from the ARC Centre of Excellence for All Sky Astrophysics in 3 Dimensions (ASTRO 3D) used a brand new imaging system at Hawaii’s WM Keck Observatory to confirm that galaxies can indeed rip one.

“Enormous clouds of gas are pulled into galaxies and used in the process of making stars,” said Professor Deanne Fisher, the study’s co-author.

Those gassy clouds are made up predominantly of nice clean hydrogen and helium. After kicking around the galaxy’s gut and being turned into stars, those stars eventually go supernova. What comes out is gas that is “no longer nice and clean,” according to Fisher.

The Galactic Beauty of Star Formation

There are still a number of unanswered questions surrounding how star formation actually occurs. To answer those questions, we humans are observing galaxies that are actively forming stars within giant clouds of gas. Until recently, we didn’t have the resolution needed to clearly image the individual gas clouds themselves. But images released by a project called PHANGS (Physics at High Angular resolution in Nearby GalaxieS) in a collaboration between the European Southern Observatory Very Large Telescope and the Atacama Large millimeter/submillmeter Array (ALMA) have provided never before seen detail of star forming clouds in other galaxies.

Robert George "Joe" Meek (1929 – 1967) was an English record producer, musician, sound engineer and songwriter who pioneered space age and experimental pop music. He developed now common recording techniques like overdubbing, sampling and reverberation, unheard of at the time. Meek's influence continues, being one of the first to use the recording studio as an instrument, and becoming one of the first producers to be recognized for his individual identity as an artist. The Tornados' instrumental "Telstar" (1962), written and produced by Meek, became the first record by a British rock group to reach number one in the US Hot 100.

Meek's inability to play a musical instrument or write notation did not prevent him from writing and producing successful commercial recordings. His talents were much sought after, and his prolific career saw him working with artists such as Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones, Ritchie Blackmore, Gene Vincent, Petula Clark, and others. He also famously turned down the Beatles and Rod Stewart as "noise".

Meek was affected by bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, and his closeted homosexuality put him under further pressure (he was particularly afraid that his mother would find out). He was a frequent recreational drug user, with his amphetamine and barbiturate abuse further worsening his depressive episodes. He wore sunglasses everywhere he went, day or night.

Meek became fascinated with the idea of communicating with the dead. He would set up tape machines in cemeteries in an attempt to record voices from beyond the grave. He had an obsession with Buddy Holly (saying the late American rocker had communicated with him in dreams). By the end of his career, Meek's fascination with these topics had taken over his life following the deterioration in his mental health, and he started to believe that his flat contained poltergeists, that aliens were substituting his speech by controlling his mind, and that photographs in his studio were trying to communicate with him. As his depression and paranoia worsened, Meek killed his landlady and then himself with a single-barrelled shotgun in 1967.

His reputation for experiments in recording music was acknowledged by the Music Producers Guild, who in 2009 created "The Joe Meek Award for Innovation in Production" as an "homage to the remarkable producer's pioneering spirit". In 2014, Meek was ranked the greatest producer of all time by British music publication New Musical Express, elaborating: "Meek was a complete trailblazer, attempting endless new ideas in his search for the perfect sound. ... The legacy of his endless experimentation is writ large over most of your favourite music today."

Tropical Storm Nicholas drenched Texas and parts of Louisiana Tuesday (Sept. 14), dumping more than 10 inches of rain within hours of making landfall on the Gulf Coast as a category 1 hurricane.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)'s National Hurricane Center has warned that the storm will bring heavy rain and trigger "life-threatening flash floods" across Texas and the neighboring Louisiana, which is still recovering from the rampage of Hurricane Ida only two weeks ago. "A bright ball like reddish smoke with single trail turning into 2 trails It was around 7:15 pm when my wife and I started to take a walk in our neighborhood. The sun was setting in the west with pink clouds in the distance. There was still blue sky left. That’s when I noticed what looked like a dark pink cloud by itself and out of place. I stopped to look at it and asked my wife if she saw it moving. She said yes. Then the cloud started to move slowly towards us and with a tail like a comet. Then it seem to turn away from us with 2 tails. It finally went from reddish to black then went into cloud cover and it was gone."

I looked in the book A Gift From the Stars: Extraterrestrial Contacts and Guide of Alien Races by Elena Danaan in an attempt to ID that alien race. On page 306 there's a list of eleven small Grey races with renderings: Ainanna, Airk, Akart, Anak, Do-Hu, Eben, Elfaff, Emerther, Moovianthan, Xrog Zeta & Solipsi Rai (Grays). It mostly resembles the Eben although the nose and mouth protrusion doesn't exactly match.

As a side note on page 308 there's a list of eleven tall Grey/Gray races with renderings: Eban, Elmanuk, Grail, Gravsli, Kiily-Tokurt, Matrax, Maytra, Orela, Smad, X5 & Indugutk.

Notice the one letter difference between the Eben & the Eban.

Columbia engineers have been working on doing just that, using lasers for cooking and 3D printing technology for assembling foods.

Columbia University has been developing 3D-printed foods since 2007. Since then, food printing has progressed to multi-ingredient prints and has been explored by researchers and a few commercial companies.

"We noted that, while printers can produce ingredients to a millimeter-precision, there is no heating method with this same degree of resolution," said Jonathan Blutinger, a Ph.D. in Lipson's lab who led the project. "Cooking is essential for nutrition, flavor, and texture development in many foods, and we wondered if we could develop a method with lasers to precisely control these attributes."

On Saturn, the rings tell you the season. On Earth, Wednesday marks an equinox, the time when the Earth's equator tilts directly toward the Sun. Since Saturn's grand rings orbit along the planet's equator, these rings appear most prominent -- from the direction of the Sun -- when the spin axis of Saturn points toward the Sun. Conversely, when Saturn's spin axis points to the side, an equinox occurs and the edge-on rings are hard to see from not only the Sun -- but Earth. In the featured montage, images of Saturn between the years of 2004 and 2015 have been superposed to show the giant planet passing from southern summer toward northern summer. Saturn was as close as it can get to planet Earth last month, and this month the ringed giant is still bright and visible throughout much of the night.

Trethevy Quoit, Cornwall | The Giant's House | Supersized Dolmen with Hole

Trethevy Quoit (pronounced Tre-thee-vee Qw-oy-t) is a huge dolmen in Cornwall and is thought, in legend, to be the home of a giant. It is a 'portal dolmen' that is made up of five standing stones holding up a massive capstone at the top weighing over 20 tons. It is located in St Cleer, close to Bodmin Moor and the Hurlets Stone Circles. The hole carved in the capstone is a mystery. Was it used for astronomical observations, or was it a 'soul hole' where the soul of the dead would travel through to reach the stars? Its overall appearance has changed little since 1598 when it was described as being "a little howse raysed of mightie stones, standing on a little hill within a fielde." However, at some point the giant capstone slid off and is still there today. Includes exclusive aerial footage.

In April 1961, a UFO encounter occurred in Eagle River, Wisconsin that many researchers of the flying saucer phenomenon have seen fit to relegate to the domains of hoaxing and/or fantasy. It just might have been something else. It was the late morning of April 18 and the daily victuals of a man named Joe Simonton was about to be rudely interrupted by visitors from another world. Stepping outside to investigate a loud noise, the full-time chicken farmer, part-time auctioneer, and yearly Santa Claus was greeted with the sight of a flying saucer landing in his backyard.

He could only stand and stare, in awe, as a doorway opened and a man approached him. He and his comrades inside the UFO, who reminded the dumbfounded Simonton of "Italians", were all short in height – around five feet at the most – and wore outfits similar to military jumpsuits. The completely mute man approached with what clearly resembled a terrestrial jug, and managed to communicate his desire for water.

Simonton quickly obliged. As a “thank-you” the aliens gave Simonton a hot plate of what appeared to be small pancakes, fresh off of ET’s grill. Yes, really. It was a good trade-off for the farmer. The leader of the group gave a strange salute and returned to the craft, which shot away, into the heavens. Simonton ate his somewhat unappetizing pancakes – or, at least, he ate one of them. By all accounts, one was enough.

Simonton’s decision to preserve the remaining pancakes was a wise one. The Air Force had them analyzed by the Food and Drug Labratory of the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare. The result of the analysis demonstrated just one anomaly. The pancakes were identical to any other pancake, except for one thing: they were totally lacking in salt.

It was never explained how, if Simonton, a respected member of the community, was responsible for the whole situation, even if in an altered state, rather than engaging in deception. How could he have managed to remove all the salt from the various ingredients that comprised the pancakes? Or why would he do such a thing in the first place?

The skeptic might say: so what? Who cares about a bit of salt? Or a lack of it? Well, it turns out that in fairy lore, the little people could not abide salt. Legend says that if a person scatters salt grains on the ground in front of a fairy, the fairy has no choice but to count every single grain – a tedious task, to say the least. In addition, while most people think of fairies as small female entities with wings, like Tinkerbell, the wizened-looking "wee ones" were said to grow to the height of "small children". So, what we have with the case of Joe Simonton is an encounter with a group of relatively small group who may well have had an aversion to salt ...

Time Travel

Like many reading these words, I think we are all capable of time travel, telepathy, astral projection, and other what I believe to be normal abilities; it is merely a matter of education, training, and discipline, like anything else, and this information has been hidden, or occulted by the 1%.

However, a fraction of that education is out there for those that want to look, some of it available on this very website, which is why many of us are here and please allow me to thank this community for the opportunity to do so as I continue to work on my path.

Listening to Herb Alpert really took me for a ride and started crystallizing this idea that music is as close to real, actual time travel that we as human beings have come up with so far. If one listens to a song, that event is taking place now, in the present. However, that song was created at a particular point and we are privy to that point in the past simultaneously. Additionally, most songs we hear were written at some point and then recorded. We may listen to an event that took place in 1971 (the recording) of something that was written in 1947 (another event that took place) and this is happening now, this year, right now, so we are up to three particular time zones, all quite real and in the air for us to hear and experience. (I've always been struck how you cannot pick music up and put it in your pocket, it is only in the air).

Now, throw in the fact that you had your first super fun date while that song was playing and you'll never forget that and now we're up to four particular time zones happening concurrently, both past and present, whether you are aware of it or not. You have no idea who wrote the song or when? It doesn't matter. It's happening. Is this time travel? We could go on. So let's.

Let's throw in improvisation, where the musicians themselves don't know what's coming next and are we talking about microseconds into the future? You will hear jazz musicians say something to the effect of, "I don't know where that came from. I didn't know what I played until I heard it." I would suggest that, with the right group of musicians, it is possible to spend thirty minutes living in the past, present, and future simultaneously.

Ever since their appearance by way of leak in June 2019, the notes written by Dr. Eric Davis regarding his meeting with Admiral Thomas Wilson have been subject to controversy within the UFO field. These notes describe the failed attempt by Admiral Wilson in 1997 to gain access to a specific black-budget UFO/ET related program buried within the Pentagon's system of Special Access Programs (SAP). Richard has described many times how he was shown several pages of these notes in 2006, long before they leaked in full form to the public. In July 2020, Richard conducted a five-hour interview (*) with an anonymous analyst regarding these notes.
