“Take flight, travel on the very air. Kiss the Hand of God if you want. But don’t fly too close to the Sun, like that Greek guy did, at least during daylight.” - me and professor Simpson.
This vid has only a minor ground loop incident of a Dyke Delta, and the BD-5 jet aborted its takeoff. No Icarus-level misjudgement and tradgedy here, but word does need to get out.
Hey check out that fat spawn of a (iirc) Quickie (Burt Rutan homebuilt design). Rutan’s original Quickie, and I think a later variant, were “conventional” gear, taildraggers. The front two wheels are mounted on either end of the front wing. This evolution uses a normal current standard tricycle gear. Solves a couple problems.
Me I’d make mine bigger, dozen friends and fuel to Vegas, once I get rich and famous enough. The double lifting wings, different than the normal layout where the tail feathers force downward, is more efficient, faster or uses less gas. I could get some turbofans and make me a bizjet. But I’d sweep the wings, more speed to get some CEOs onboard.

Not only do our bodies emit heat as a light we can't see, a number of cellular reactions may generate photons of light in a visible part of the spectrum. Weirder still, this 'unearthly glow' stops when we die.

Astronauts Simulate Deep Space With Deep Caves
A team of Chinese astronauts have successfully undergone a round of harsh training under a CAVES training program administered in a mountainous area of southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, which has been the country's first such program similar to the Cooperative Adventure for Valuing and Exercising human behavior and performance Skills (CAVES) training organized by the European Space Agency (ESA).

The Sailors
Astronaut, Cosmonaut and Taikonaut are all terms for the same thing, someone who travels into space. The common part of all three naut which comes from the Greek for sailor. The Americans, Canadian, Europeans and the Japanese use the term Astronaut meaning Star Sailor with the first part meaning star. Those three terms are the most commonly used/heard terms for those who travel into space.
Lesser known terms include Spationaut and Vyomanaut. Some Europeans use Spationaut, mainly the French to indicate an European astronaut. A Vyomanaut is used by some Indians for those who travel in the Indian Space Program.
Russia uses the term Cosmonaut, meaning Universe Sailor and the Chinese use the word Taikonaut meaning Space Sailor.

Astronaut: NASA Basic Requirements
http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/aDaw7ATYubKeBXyWXU4pW4-650-80.jpg
Being an astronaut is a tremendous commitment. Astronaut candidates — who tend to be selected in their 30s and 40s — usually leave prestigious careers for a chance at being an astronaut, starting again at the bottom of the rung. Training means long days at work and lots of travel. There's also no guarantee they'll make it into space.
While the public mostly pays attention to astronauts while they're in space, in reality the astronauts will spend only a fraction of their careers up high. Most of their time will be spent training and supporting other missions.
First, the astronaut candidates will have about two years of basic training, where they will learn survival training, language, technical skills and other things they need to be an astronaut. Upon graduating, new astronauts can be assigned to a space mission, or assigned to technical roles in the Astronaut Office at the Johnson Space Center in Houston.
http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/LBwtEKZUJ7qAsme4Yptehd-970-80.jpg
Here's what it takes to be a NASA astronaut and what happens after the selection.
The agency's basic requirements are a bachelor's degree in engineering, biological science, physical science, computer science or mathematics, followed by three years of professional experience (or 1,000 hours of pilot-in-command time in jet aircraft).
Candidates also must pass NASA's rigorous physical examination, as well as learn to speak Russian.
There are many other skills that can be an asset to selection, such as scuba diving, wilderness experience, leadership experience and facility with other languages (such as French, Spanish, and Russian, which all astronauts are required to learn today.)
The new astronauts may begin their careers traveling to the International Space Station, or they may find themselves flying farther. It all depends on where United States space policy goes in the coming years, and what programs NASA finds itself involved in.
http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/uE7AcSAdstZNgB8NJ8xFie-970-80.jpg
While the astronaut candidates selected by NASA will be principally working with that agency, they also will find themselves embedded in a network of international partnerships. Along with commercial partners in the United States developing spaceflight hardware and the various NASA centers that work in human spaceflight, there are 16 nations participating in the International Space Station — each with its own realm of expertise.

Robot Smaller Than a Grain of Salt Can ‘Sense, Think, Act’
http://img-s-msn-com.akamaized.net/tenant/amp/entityid/AA1SdbXV.img?w=768&h=512&m=6
For decades scientists have dreamed of building a microrobot less than 1 millimeter in size, a barrier that corresponds to the smallest units of our biology.
For comparison, a human hair has a diameter of about 70 microns, while human cells are about 20 to 40 microns across.
Solving a technical challenge that has stymied science for 40 years, researchers have built a robot with an onboard computer, sensors and a motor, the whole assembly less than 1 millimeter in size — smaller than a grain of salt.
The feat, accomplished by a partnership of researchers at the University of Pennsylvania and University of Michigan, advances medicine toward a future that might see tiny robots sent into the human body to rewire damaged nerves, deliver medicines to precise areas, and determine the health of a patient’s cells without surgery.
“It’s the first tiny robot to be able to sense, think and act,” said Marc Miskin, assistant professor of electrical and systems engineering at the University of Pennsylvania, and an author of a paper describing the work published this week in the journalScience Robotics.
The device, billed as the world’s smallest robot able to make decisions for itself, represents a major step toward a goal once rooted in science fiction.
In the 1960s, the story and movie “Fantastic Voyage” imagined a medical team placed aboard a submarine and shrunk to the size of a microbe. The microscopic medical crew was then injected into the body of a dying man in order to destroy an inoperable blood clot.
During the summer, the scientists invited a group of high school students to come in and test the new microrobots. The students were able to track the movements of the robots using a special low-cost microscope.
“They loved it,” said Miskin. “It was definitely a little bit challenging at first, just getting oriented to working with something that small. But that’s part of the appeal. Once they got the hang of it, they were all in.” Miskin said the version of the robot the students used cost only about $10.
Researchers are working now to develop the microrobot so that it can work in saltwater, on land and in other environments.

Artemis 2 Update: NASA Eyes February Launch to the Moon
http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/t6iUGSZgkNruk439TXcUKZ-970-80.jpg
NASA's first mission to take humans to the moon in half a century is creeping ever closer.
The space agency has announced that the rollout of its Artemis 2 Space Launch System rocket and Orion Module began Saturday (Jan. 17), ahead of a launch as early as Feb. 6.
Embarking from the Vehicle Assembly Building to Launch Pad 39B at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, the 11 million-pound (5 million kilograms) stack will be transported at a speed of about 1 mph (1.6 km/h along a 4-mile (6.4 kilometers) route. The site will be streamed live on NASA's Youtube channel. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrVnsO_rdew)
"We are moving closer to Artemis II, with rollout just around the corner," Lori Glaze, the acting associate administrator for NASA's Exploration Systems Development Mission Directorate, said in a statement released Jan. 9. "We have important steps remaining on our path to launch and crew safety will remain our top priority at every turn, as we near humanity's return to the Moon."
Artemis 2 is the first crewed spaceflight in the Artemis Program, which aims to send humans back to the moon for the first time since 1972. Four astronauts will take a 10-day flight around the moon and back to Earth, testing systems ahead of the Artemis 3 mission, which aims to deliver astronauts to the lunar surface by 2028.

THE CME HAS ARRIVED--A SEVERE STORM IS UNDERWAY
Arriving earlier than expected, a CME struck Earth's magnetic field on Jan. 19th (1930 UT). The impact has sparked a G4-class (severe) geomagnetic storm. Sky watchers at all latitudes should be alert for auroras after local nightfall. There is a chance that this storm could escalate to category G5 (extreme) in the hours and days ahead.
THIS WAS A VERY FAST ONE
The CME that struck Earth today crossed the sun-Earth divide in only ~25 hours. That's fast. For comparison, most CMEs take 3 or 4 days to get here. The high speed of this CME (~1660 km/s) places it in the top few percent of all CMEs observed in the SOHO era.

Since the launch of the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) in 1995, SOHO coronagraphs have cataloged thousands of coronal mass ejections. The vast majority are slower than 1,000 km/s. The fastest, observed on July 23, 2012, was clocked at 2,900 to 3,500 km/s; it narrowly missed Earth.

The Onboard UFO Encounters of Leo and Mike Dworshak
http://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51CS5CKQ9EL._SL500_.jpg
This is an amazing story that gets weirder as it goes on. The brothers had 12 encounters.
One of the most astounding cases of UFO contact is that of Leo and Mike Dworshak, two brothers from the small town of Killdeer, North Dakota. In the summer of 1932, Leo (age 12) and Mike (age 8) were hiking near their home when they came upon a landed silver flying saucer. At that time, neither of them had heard of UFOs (few had!) so they had no idea what they were seeing, but they knew it was unusual. They became even more intrigued when a door opened and three men wearing jumpsuits emerged. The boys tried to move closer, but found their path forward blocked by an invisible forcefield. The men walked around briefly and then returned inside the craft. It was getting dark, so the brothers returned home. This was to be the first of an escalating series of contacts ...

Don't Pick Up The Frozen Iguanas
FLORIDA - Morning temperatures in Jacksonville and Tallahassee dipped as low as 20 degrees Fahrenheit overnight, while Orlando hit the mid-30s, and Miami fell to the upper 40s. All are temperatures cold enough to temporarily freeze an iguana.
Miami Zoo Communications Director Ron Magill is delighted to expand on this little-known-outside-the-area phenomena.
Published 17th January 2026 (4:07)
LhFAkddNvMM
Reptiles like iguanas are cold-blooded—or ectothermic—reptiles that rely on external environmental conditions to regulate their body temperature. By comparison, warm-blooded or endothermic animals like humans and other mammals have a more consistent body temperature. Since the outside temperature has such a drastic effect on their bodies, cold-blooded animals often adapt their behavior as a response. They may bask in the sun to warm up or find shade to cool down and achieve a more balanced body temperature.
http://www.popsci.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/iguana.png?w=1440&h=810
When it gets cold, iguanas may also enter a dormant state called cold-stunning or freezing since they are not adapted to life in colder temperatures. Iguanas can start to slow down if the temperature gets below 50 degrees, and stun once they hit the 40s or 30s.
After they fall from a tree, they may appear to be dead. However, their critical body functions will all still be working and they will continue to breathe. Once temperatures rise, they can jump back into action as if nothing happened.
Iguanas can grow up to seven feet long and weigh upwards of 30 pounds, so it is best to be cautious when walking under palm trees in colder weather.

Rupert Sheldrake’s theory of Morphic Resonance explains how you don’t need to be bitten by a radioactive spider, to be a superman.
All it takes is one to be bitten, here that is Bob Burnquist, then the resonance begins. Heck even the filmer Josh Dirksen hucked himself, per the credits.

Ramanujan’s 100-year-old Pi Formulae Still Revealing the Universe
http://img-s-msn-com.akamaized.net/tenant/amp/entityid/AA1Swdsa.img?w=1280&h=720&m=4&q=68
Most people first encounter the irrational number π (pi) -- commonly approximated as 3.14 and extending infinitely without repeating -- during school lessons about circles. In recent decades, advances in computing have pushed this familiar constant far beyond the classroom, with powerful supercomputers now calculating pi to trillions of decimal places.
Researchers have now uncovered an unexpected twist. Physicists at the Centre for High Energy Physics (CHEP), Indian Institute of Science (IISc) report that mathematical formulas developed a century ago to compute pi are closely linked to some of today's most important ideas in fundamental physics. These connections appear in theoretical descriptions of percolation, fluid turbulence, and even certain features of black holes.
http://akm-img-a-in.tosshub.com/indiatoday/images/story/202512/srinivasa-ramanujan-041552478-16x9_0.jpg?VersionId=dDl8JhbhXWEf2gyE0Vj4nDM3e7DJSQsm
In 1914, shortly before leaving Madras for Cambridge, renowned Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan published a paper presenting 17 different formulas for calculating pi. These expressions were strikingly efficient, allowing pi to be computed much faster than existing techniques of the time. Despite containing only a small number of mathematical terms, the formulas produced an impressive number of accurate digits.
Their impact has endured. Ramanujan's methods became foundational to modern mathematical and computational approaches for calculating pi, including those used by today's most advanced machines. "Scientists have computed pi up to 200 trillion digits using an algorithm called the Chudnovsky algorithm," says Aninda Sinha, Professor at CHEP and senior author of the study. "These algorithms are actually based on Ramanujan's work."

The 5 Worst Ideas of the 21st Century
http://saratogatodaynewspaper.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/iStock-2184289004-1024x683.jpg
Social media began with the best intentions - but it soon went sour. Platforms that once fostered connection are now driven by an endless desire to monopolise our time. From the endless scroll to ragebait content, social media is no longer designed to connect us with friends and family - but to profit from our attention. And that’s not to mention the damaging political influence it can have. As countries and governments move to act against it, is there a good solution to these problems?
Bitcoin is one big disaster for the environment. Mining bitcoin requires an inordinate amount of energy - and that cost only increases as more bitcoin is mined. It’s also a terrible investment these days, with some experts suggesting you’d be better off buying a load of Pokémon cards. Adding to that its role in fuelling crime on the dark web - and it becomes a strong contender for worst idea of the 21st century.
http://coinedition.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Basics_of_BTC_Mining_Understanding_the_Process_of_Bitcoin_Mining-355x200.jpg
http://cdn.banklesstimes.com/bt/content/uploads/2024/10/a-photo-of-a-bitcoin-mining-operation-there-are-mu-GdMLhcb3TWm1K4jfq9c4tg-QGiKrGplTR-VFP64dbBD6g.jpeg
Carbon off-sets - another well intentioned solution to the climate crisis that’s gone horribly wrong. The idea is you can lessen the environmental impact of your actions, by off-setting the damage. Maybe you take a long-haul flight, but you plant a tree in return. The trouble is, not only does this give people permission to keep polluting the environment, it’s not even clear if offsetting actually works. But perhaps it’s not all bad?
Effective altruism is a surprising addition to the list, given that it’s meant to be a way of ensuring money goes to only the best causes. But judging which charities deserve donations above others is much more difficult than it seems. And part of the effective altruism movement suggests people should earn as much money as possible so they can one day give it away - which can obviously end badly. And then there are those who have taken it too far - ruining their life.
Biofuels are one seemingly good fix for environmental damage. The promise of alternative fuels, like wind farms, natural gases, hydrogen and biofuels looks good with text and green illustrations. But it turns out they probably do a lot more damage than good. Biofuels in particular require massive amounts of farmland to produce, which alone is highly polluting. Add to that the fact they’re driving up prices at the supermarket - perhaps there’s a better way to stop the climate from warming?

NASA is Flying a Piece of the Wright Brothers' Plane to the Moon
http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/85ERUEZG9AWoTZFeGFYDbn-650-80.jpg
NASA's Artemis 2 mission won't just send a quartet of astronauts around the moon — a trove of aerospace artifacts will make the trip as well.
A piece of the Wright Brothers' plane will fly on Artemis 2's Orion spacecraft, for example, as will an American flag that reached orbit on the first and final space shuttle missions.
"Historical artifacts flying aboard Artemis 2 reflect the long arc of American exploration and the generations of innovators who made this moment possible," NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman said in a statement. "This mission will bring together pieces of our earliest achievements in aviation, defining moments from human spaceflight and symbols of where we're headed next."
The mementos placed on Orion will commemorate the historic nature of the mission, which takes place during the year of the United States' 250th anniversary.
The Wright Brothers made the first-ever successful powered flight back in 1903, getting their Wright Flyer (also known as Flyer 1) aloft over the dunes of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Artemis 2 will carry a small piece of the plane, a 1-square-inch (6.5 square centimeters) swatch of muslin fabric that's on loan from the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum.
Artemis 2 won't be the first trip to deep space for a piece of the Wright Flyer, by the way: A different swatch of the pioneering plane flew to Mars aboard NASA's Ingenuity helicopter, which became the first aircraft ever to ply the skies of a world beyond Earth. (The artifact, like Ingenuity, remains on Mars today.)

Artemis 2 Astronauts Enter Quarantine Ahead of Historic Moon Launch
From CSA:
DPSMWoqCc2Z
https://www.instagram.com/reel/DPSMWoqCc2Z/
NASA just took another big step toward launching its next crewed moon mission.
The four astronauts of the Artemis 2 mission went into quarantine on Friday (Jan. 23) in Houston, keeping everything on track for a possible liftoff early next month.
"This period, called the health stabilization program, typically starts about 14 days before launch," NASA officials said in a statement on Friday. "Beginning quarantine now preserves flexibility as teams work toward potential opportunities in the February launch period."
Artemis 2 will send NASA's Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch, along with Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen, on a roughly 10-day flight around the moon aboard an Orion capsule. The mission will not land on the lunar surface or even enter orbit around Earth's nearest neighbor. Still, it will be the first crewed flight to lunar realms since Apollo 17 back in 1972.
As NASA's Friday statement noted, the agency is eyeing a liftoff as soon as February. There are five potential launch dates next month: Feb. 6-8 and Feb. 10-11. Two other windows are open if Artemis 2 can't get off the ground in February — one in March (March 6-9 and March 11) and one in April (April 1, April 3-6 and April 30).

5 Ways Birds Stay Warm When Temperatures Drop
http://hips.hearstapps.com/hmg-prod/images/first-snow-royalty-free-image-1769195904.pjpeg?crop=1.00xw:1.00xh;0,0&resize=1800
When winter settles in, the once-bustling birdlife quiets down. The early morning songs fade, and the evening skies grow still. Yet, despite the chill, birds have a remarkable set of tricks that help them stay snug through the coldest months.
:sun:
Soaking Up the Sun
Just like people, birds take advantage of sunshine. On bright winter days, they turn their feathers toward the light, absorbing warmth and storing a little extra heat before the cold night returns.
Feathery Insulation
http://hips.hearstapps.com/hmg-prod/images/gettyimages-2170988709-6900de2466ec9.jpg?resize=980
Beneath the outer layer of sleek feathers lies a soft, fluffy coat of down. This down traps warm air close to a bird’s body, acting much like a thermal jacket. By puffing up their feathers, birds increase the insulating air space, making them look round and fluffy. To prevent heat loss, they often tuck their beaks and legs into their feathers while resting.
Fueling Up
Winter is a constant hunt for energy. Birds spend daylight hours searching for calorie-dense foods rich in fat and protein—vital fuel that keeps them alive through chilly nights. Some, like chickadees, eat more than a third of their body weight each day just to maintain warmth. They often feed heavily before sunset or before an incoming storm to build up these energy reserves.
http://hips.hearstapps.com/hmg-prod/images/gettyimages-2176491068-6900de3be21b9.jpg?resize=980
“Mini-Hibernation” and Shivering
Certain bird species can enter a mild state of torpor, lowering their body temperature, heart rate, and metabolism to save energy overnight. When morning arrives, they generate heat by shivering—tiny muscle contractions that help restore body warmth. They will also shiver during the day to warm up if necessary.
Strength in Numbers
http://hips.hearstapps.com/hmg-prod/images/gettyimages-1385746659-6900de6245dd3.jpg?resize=980
Many small (and larger) birds survive the season by roosting (aka cuddling) together. They crowd into sheltered spaces—tree holes, birdhouses, or thick shrubs—sharing their collective body heat. Chickadees, finches, bluebirds, and nuthatches are among the many species that rely on these cozy communal gatherings to make it through the winter nights.

He is imo a decent guy, having talked to him in his YT comments.
Refocusing, Sun Tzu comes to mind, and ET aliens. We humans have used STzu’s methods for ages, that’s where he got them from. I wonder if way-old ETs first or ever got their advantage by techniques of deception, and if so how the level of deception has changed, in their ways.

Cool to see. I’d had an idea how tying worked, but first time seeing it go. Impressive fine work, speaking from experience in different fine crafting. Thanks.
How are the designs done? Are they mostly copies of actual prey insects? Do fish eventually stop going for designs, like do they learn what’s fake/dangerous, or are advised though RSheldrake’s Morphic Resonance? How effective are novel fake insect designs?
Other question, are FPV drones used, either for visual recon or even to dip/multi-dip a fly near a seen lunker? If not in a survival situation, might not be sporting, but I’m still curious.
Cheers from cold Alberta.

Sorry BG, this round pool table thing is dumb.
In the opening bit of the first vid, he demonstrates that when launched with a dead-centre strike on the cue ball, the object/target ball will bounce sharper with a harder rail hit, and wider/longer/looser with a lesser speed one.
I play a fair amount of pool, all now at one local kareoke poolhall, and my favourite game is bank everything. League rules, with agreed other modified rules like no fowls and no primary soft cushions, kicks count as a bank, and don’t lose the 8 ball (grab it and spot it, whether from the floor or near an errant pocket incipient loss). I call this game Gary’s same game, after the proprietor who graces me with always same, when he has free time.
I’ve watched league and tournament play, lots of excellent regular shots, way better than I can do. But when they’re in a bind, crowded and blocked, they rarely see kick or bank solutions. I have quit voicing suggestions, as that used to ALWAYS bother them. And these guys were playing for a pot or a trip to Vegas lol.
Not saying that I’m better, because I lose most of the time. I play for fun, as I often say, and I also often yell “I’m having more fun than you!” if I happen to be falling behind.
Banking on the regular squarish table is a bouquet of eloquent choices.
A few years ago, my fav was the long bank side. I got it up to about 50% reliability back then, but now it’s more like 15-20% for lack of practice. Military calls practice “currency”.
Since then, fav has gone to 5 bank (incl 2 longs), to long 2 bank (kitty corner, side first, that one needs just a slight touch of negative English). Current fav is the long bank kick to long bank, or the cross side easier version. Won a game with the long one years ago, against a friend RIP, and recently got back to trying that again.

Sun Unleashes Extraordinary 'Solar Flare Barrage'
New Volatile Sunspot Turns Toward Earth
The Sun has erupted in a relentless barrage of powerful solar flares over the past 24 hours, firing off at least 18 M-class flares and three X-class flares, including an X8.3 eruption — the strongest solar flare of 2026 so far. Solar flares are ranked by strength from A, B and C up to M and X, with each letter representing a tenfold increase in energy — meaning X-class flares are the most powerful explosions the Sun can produce.
http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/qWevDsBLmpGC6RZFJGYCEb.gif
NASA model showing the slow-moving CME eruption from the sun during the X8.3 flare event
The culprit is sunspot region 4366, a volatile active region that has grown rapidly in just a few days. The flurry of activity began late Feb. 1 and has continued into Feb. 2, with multiple M-class and X-class flares erupting in quick succession. The prolific region appears to be far from finished. www.spaceweather.com described the region as a "solar flare factory", warning that its rapid growth and magnetic complexity make further eruptions highly likely.

GEOMAGNETIC STORM WATCH: NOAA says that minor G1-class geomagnetic storms are likely on Feb 5-6 when a CME is expected to graze Earth's magnetic field. The CME was hurled into space by a powerful X8-class solar flare on Feb.1st. Even a glancing blow from such a CME can be potent, so don't be surprised if the storm is stronger than expected.

Agree, this is very interesting. They both seem credible imo.
New to me, was the correlation to Bigfoot, and the occurance of healing.
Especially the healing, including the Mexican lady who they said performed sort of magical surgery on each of them (Don and Carla).
I take a step back though, and wonder if any or all of the physical healings were accompanied or preceded my soul healing. In my understanding, call it an opinion if you wish, the vitality of our body is a reflection of our spiritual health in the chakra area indicated.
Related, Iridology is one window into our physical health. Then connecting whatever indicated organ with a chakra/consciousness-centre, can help us to fix ourselves. In order, from bottom to top, as I learned it:
Order
Will
Wisdom
Earnestness/Justice (the aspect that the Christ is responsible for)
Patience (the throat area, one of the easiest to get)
Love
Mercy
Christ, as Jesus, was said to have healed a number of people. In the records, he always mentioned a spiritual side of his acts, like those people had first made an inner change.

The Integratron
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/14/Integratron-3.jpg/770px-Integratron-3.jpg
As mentioned in the previously posted Don Elkins/Carla Rueckert interview
https://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?3596-Up-At-The-Ranch-And-Beyond&p=1701089&viewfull=1#post1701089
The Integratron is a 38-foot-tall (12 m) cupola structure with a diameter of 55 feet (17 m) designed by ufologist and contactee George Van Tassel. Van Tassel claimed the Integratron was capable of rejuvenation, anti-gravity and time travel. He built the structure in Landers, California (near Joshua Tree), following instructions that Van Tassel vehemently claimed were provided directly to him by visitors from the planet Venus, who promised to come back and “activate” it. The Integratron machine was started in 1957, the structure erected in 1959. It was financed predominantly by donations, including funds from Howard Hughes.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/3b/IntegratronCeiling.jpeg/330px-IntegratronCeiling.jpeg
After Van Tassel's death in 1978, the building had a series of owners (and was left in various states of disrepair) before sisters Joanne, Nancy, and Patty Karl bought it in the early 2000s. The sisters promote the Integratron as an "acoustically perfect structure", and offer "sound baths" they describe as "...meditation-like sessions accompanied by tones from 22 quartz crystal bowls, creating binaural beats for relaxation and rejuvenation". The building is now a part of the National Historic Register, and continues to be stewarded by the Karl sisters and their adult children.

Spiral Galaxy NGC 1512: Wide Field by Daniel Stern
http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/image/2602/NGC1512_stern_960.jpg
Most galaxies don't have any rings -- why does this galaxy have three? To begin, a ring that's near NGC 1512's center -- and so hard to see here -- is the nuclear ring which glows brightly with recently formed stars.
Next out is a ring of stars and dust appearing both red and blue, called, counter-intuitively, the inner ring. This inner ring connects ends of a diffuse central bar of stars that runs horizontally across the galaxy.
Farthest out in this wide field image is a ragged structure that might be considered an outer ring. This outer ring appears spiral-like and is dotted with clusters of bright blue stars. All these ring structures are thought to be affected by NGC 1512's own gravitational asymmetries in a drawn-out process called secular evolution. The featured image was captured from a telescope at Deep Sky Chile in Chile.

The Snowy Owls of Logan Airport
Published 25th April 2025 (9:00)
H3xKx0DAxQw
Each winter, Logan Airport in Boston, Massachusetts, hosts more than just airplanes. Snowy owls also make a surprising stop here. This rare phenomenon has long delighted travelers and birdwatchers alike.
Snowy owls are among the largest owl species in the world. The birds can grow up to 27 inches (68 cm) long and have a wingspan of up to 5.5 feet (1.67 m). They are also the only owls with mainly white plumage. These birds spend most of the year in the Arctic tundra.
But during winter, many migrate south in search of food and milder conditions. As they travel, the owls seek landscapes that resemble their Arctic home. The land around Logan Airport is ideal. It is low and flat, with short, scruffy grasses and an abundance of small mammals and birds to hunt. The owls usually arrive in early November and return north in April for the breeding season.
http://cdn4.dogonews.com/images/be234769-7f0b-4f3c-a0ed-c24847098a1f/1600px-snowy-owl-1.jpg
"It resembles the Arctic tundra," explains Norman Smith, a raptor specialist for Mass Audubon. "The open terrain lets the owls hunt efficiently, and there’s plenty of food available."
The area around the airport may be a perfect winter home for the owls. But it poses serious risks for both the planes and birds. As they fly, the owls could collide with airplanes. Even worse, they could get caught in an engine.
Fortunately, Smith — affectionately known as the “Owl Man of Logan Airport" — has spent decades keeping the birds and airport operations safe. Since 1981, he has humanely captured and relocated over 900 owls to safer habitats. Injured birds that cannot be released find permanent homes at Mass Audubon. Here, visitors can see them up close and learn about the species.

Breakthrough Could Make Ships Nearly Unsinkable
http://scitechdaily.com/images/Unsinkable-Metal-Tube-With-Holes-777x518.jpg
More than 100 years after the sinking of the Titanic, the idea of ships that cannot sink continues to motivate engineers. Researchers at the University of Rochester's Institute of Optics have now taken a significant step toward that long-standing goal. They have developed a technique that makes ordinary metal tubes unsinkable -- meaning the tubes stay afloat regardless of how long they remain underwater or how much damage they sustain.
The work was led by Chunlei Guo, a professor of optics and physics and a senior scientist at URochester's Laboratory for Laser Energetics. Guo and his colleagues detailed the new method in a study published in Advanced Functional Materials. Their approach focuses on modifying the inside surface of aluminum tubes by etching it to create microscopic and nanoscale pits. This textured surface becomes superhydrophobic, allowing it to strongly repel water and remain dry.
When a treated tube is placed in water, its water-repelling interior captures a stable pocket of air inside. This trapped air keeps water from filling the tube, which prevents it from becoming heavy and sinking. The process resembles natural strategies seen in diving bell spiders, which carry air bubbles underwater, and in fire ants, which form floating rafts using their water-resistant bodies.
"Importantly, we added a divider to the middle of the tube so that even if you push it vertically into the water, the bubble of air remains trapped inside and the tube retains its floating ability," says Guo.

The Night Sky
Sunday, Feb. 8 - The Winter Football (evening)
http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/y9Z24FGdKxdgJ5tnLHAjfU-970-80.jpg
On February evenings, the southern sky hosts the Winter Football asterism, also known as the Winter Hexagon and Winter Circle. The huge pattern, which is composed of the brightest stars in the constellations of Canis Major, Orion, Taurus, Auriga, Gemini, and Canis Minor — specifically Sirius, Rigel, Aldebaran, Capella, Castor and Pollux, and Procyon — covers a region of the southeastern sky after dusk that spans 65 degrees high by 45 degrees wide. Tilted to the east at dusk, the asterism will stand upright in the southern sky after mid-evening, with the Milky Way ascending vertically through it.
Monday, Feb. 9 - The spectacular Orion Nebula
http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/mdkgMnnid4JBxGnwvcj7sU-970-80.jpg
The bright stars of mighty Orion, the Hunter, shine in the southern sky on mid-February evenings. The sword of Orion, which spans 1.5 by 1 degrees (about the width of your thumb held up at arm's length), descends from Orion's three-star belt. The patch of light in the middle of the sword is the spectacular and bright nebula known as the Orion Nebula or Messier 42 and NGC 1976.
Tuesday, Feb. 10 - Crescent moon in the Scorpion's Claws (predawn)
http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/D3bXs3E7tVMT3Tq6VadbuX-970-80.jpg
Early risers on Tuesday morning, Feb. 10, in the Americas can look in the southern sky before sunrise to see the pretty sight of the waning crescent moon shining near the bottom of the up-down chain of stars that mark the claws of Scorpius. The bright reddish star Antares will twinkle off to the moon's left (or celestial east). That red giant star, which is located 550 light-years from our sun, marks the heart of the beast. The following morning, the moon will hop east to shine to Antares' left.

Launching the Idea of Data Centers in Space
Tech firms are floating the idea of building data centers in space and tapping into the sun's energy to meet out-of-this-world power demands in a fierce artificial intelligence race.
https://www.spxdaily.com/images-hg/raytheon-intelligence-space-next-gen-opir-geo-marker-satellite-milspace-comms-misisle-icbm-warning-hg.jpg
Elon Musk's decision to have his rocket company SpaceX take over his artificial intelligence outfit xAI has added fuel to the debate about whether orbiting data centers are feasible or foolish.
SpaceX has set the pace in the rocket launch market and Musk has spoken of putting data centers in space. Musk-led electric car company Tesla is also working on humanoid robots, providing potential workers and maintenance crews in space.
US startup Starcloud late last year sent a refrigerator-sized satellite containing an Nvidia graphics processing unit into orbit in what the AI chip maker touted as a "cosmic debut" for the mini-data center.
Meanwhile, tech giant Google has laid out plans to launch test satellites by early 2027 as part of its Suncatcher project to build solar-powered data centers in space.
Blue Origin, the rocket and satellite company established by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, is touting a TeraWave space-based high-speed network that can be used by data centers to move information anywhere around the planet.
More than a dozen startups, aerospace leaders, and major tech firms are involved in the development, testing, or planning of space-based data centers.
The big draw of space for data centers is power supply, with the option of synchronizing satellites to the sun's orbit to ensure constant light beaming onto solar panels. Building in space also avoids the challenges of acquiring land and meeting local regulations or community resistance to projects.
Advocates argue that data centers operating in space would be less harmful overall to the environment, aside from the pollution generated by rocket launches.
"The idea is that it will soon make much more sense to build data centers in space than it does to build them on Earth," Starcloud chief executive Philip Johnston said at a tech conference last year.

Solar power is abundant above the atmosphere, no question that it can be collected at reasonable cost by today’s tech. But space operations have a rather severe hobble: cooling.
Rockets can produce huge power, but they eject almost all of the heat, physically away from the vehicle. Looked at in the frame of reference of the machine, that counts as a fourth type of cooling mechanism.
The standard other 3 are:
Convection, air passing by like a cooling breeze.
Conduction, touching a cooler other solid thing.
Radiation, like how our Sun gives us sunburns and heatstroke.
Space based platforms only have the means for radiation. With known tech now, afaik, that would up the scale and cost prohibitively.
I think they’ll all be land based and nuclear powered, probably hidden under miles of ice in Antarctica and Greenland, more defensible against intrusion and sabotage by the AI-enslaved masses. Possible motive for Trump’s Greenland goal? Considering, it would be way ea$ier there than on the cold cold butthole of the world.
Happy weekend, everybody. ♥️🥰👻

Hubble Telescope Spots Strange, Massive Disk 40 Times the Size of Our Solar System
http://scitechdaily.com/images/Largest-Known-Protoplanetary-Disk-Around-Young-Star-777x858.jpg
Astronomers working with NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope have captured images of the largest protoplanetary disk ever seen surrounding a young star.
Observed in visible light for the first time, the disk appears far more turbulent and disordered than expected, with streamers of material extending much higher above and below the disk than in any comparable system. Even more unusual, the longest filaments appear on only one side.
The results, published in The Astrophysical Journal, represent a major achievement for Hubble and offer new insight into how planets might form under extreme conditions, advancing NASA’s broader effort to explore the universe and our place within it.
The object, known as IRAS 23077+6707 and nicknamed “Dracula’s Chivito,” lies about 1,000 light-years from Earth and stretches nearly 400 billion miles across. This makes it roughly 40 times wider than the span of our solar system.
“The level of detail we’re seeing is rare in protoplanetary disk imaging, and these new Hubble images show that planet nurseries can be much more active and chaotic than we expected,” said lead author Kristina Monsch of the Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian (CfA).
The playful nickname “Dracula’s Chivito” reflects the backgrounds of the researchers involved, with one tracing roots to Transylvania and another to Uruguay, where a popular sandwich is called a chivito. Seen edge-on, the disk even resembles a layered burger, with a dark central band bordered above and below by glowing layers of dust and gas.

Constellation Gemini - The Twins
C3Hn3QDsZJD
https://www.instagram.com/p/C3Hn3QDsZJD/
Zodiacal Characteristics: Gemini, Latin for twins, represents those born from May 21—June 20. Gemini is the third Zodiac sign of the year, directly after Taurus.
Geminis are known to be affectionate, gentle, exciting, impulsive. At the same time they are reputed to be indecisive, nervous, a bit flighty, and moody.
Myth and Legend: Gemini the twins represents Castor and Pollux from Greek mythology. They had the same mother-Leda-but different fathers. Pollux’s father was the God Zeus-Jupiter in Roman mythology, while Castor’s father was Leda’s husband, King Tyndareus of Sparta. Pollux was immortal, due to the fact that his father happened to be a God. Castor his twin, who only had a king as a father was merely mortal.
The two Greek brothers grew up to become famous explorers and warriors. They sailed with Jason in search of the Golden Fleece; the story behind the Aries constellation. Then they fought in the Trojan War. Helen of Troy, their half sister, had left her husband Menelaus for Paris of Troy, and the brothers were determined to bring her home.
Tragically Castor dies in the Trojan War. Overcome with grief, Pollux his immortal twin, pleads with Zeus to let his brother share his immortality. Zeus responds by placing the twins in the night sky as the Gemini constellation.
Element Sign: Gemini is an air sign. Air signs are thought to be abstract thinkers and intellectuals. Other air signs in the zodiac include Libra and Aquarius.
Glyph: The Gemini glyph does not necessarily look like a pair of twins, but the symbol does make some kind of sense, as it represents the number two—in Roman numerals.
http://ameliasamazingspaceadventures.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/pisces-glyph.png?w=137&h=243
Constellation: This constellation looks exactly like twins, if you like twin stick figures drawn by five year olds. But as stick drawings go, it does resemble two people hand in hand. The Gemini constellation is unique in the Zodiac, in that two stars make up the twins’ heads. Pollux as the immortal twin has the largest bright orange—cranial — star. Castor, his mortal brother has a smaller blue white star.
If you want to look for the Gemini constellation, you can see it anytime between January and May. The best viewing times are January and February at around 9pm; between latitudes + 90° and – 60° in the northern hemisphere. If you live in the southern hemisphere, look for the Gemini constellation in summer.

Arctic Blast Creates Rare “Cloud Streets” Phenomena

On February 3, 2026, NOAA shared the above image of clouds rolling off the southeastern United States in neat columns. Meteorologists call this phenomenon cloud streets. NOAA said:
The recent Arctic blast that prompted freeze warnings as far south as southern Florida also created a captivating phenomenon over the waters of the Gulf and Atlantic on Sunday, February 1, 2026. NOAA’s GOES East satellite captured long, parallel bands of clouds called horizontal convective rolls.
Better known as ‘cloud streets,’ these formations can develop when cold, dry air flows over relatively warmer water. As the air absorbs heat and moisture from below, rows of long, parallel lines of cumulus clouds form, usually aligned with the wind direction. In the satellite imagery above, a gap of clear skies is visible between the coastline and where the cloud streets begin. That’s due to the time and distance it takes the cold air to pick up the heat and moisture from the water to form clouds.
The frigid air that plunged southward on Sunday was some of the coldest that Florida has seen in years. Temperatures dropped to 23 degrees Fahrenheit in Winter Haven, 29 degrees in Tampa, 30 degrees in West Palm Beach and 35 degrees in Miami.

I’ve witnessed this same phenomenon on a much much smaller scale. Didn’t know it had a name, so thanks!
2nd last lodging, 12-10ish years ago, my housemate and I turned the detached garage into a rudimentary music studio. I named it, and wrote on the key tag, “Low Key Studio”.
The cloud street came as a result of how we heated it: burning methanol in a stainless steel salad bowl, about a cup at a time. The one whole cold winter, lots of nights -20 to -30C, iirc I bought around Cdn$600. at my workplace, wholesale+tax.
It burned clean, no worries breathing, even standing over the 2 ft blue flame. Problem was, that flame produced LOTS of moisture. After a number of burns, 10-15 minutes between at worst/coldest, it got chilly in there.
Solution was to open the walk-in door, for maybe 20 seconds, get some outside dry air in. Then begin again to heat that cold air. But it worked.
Cold dry air rushed in through the lower part of the door, while the warm moist studio air exited out the top. The difference in densities drove that.
A 3 ft high stream of cloud came rolling/roiling/rushing in, from the floor up, right to the back wall.

Everything Trump Has Said About UFOs, Aliens in Public

Newsweek has taken the trouble to collate some of the current president's public statements regarding the ET enigma.
______
President Donald Trump has alternated between skepticism and curiosity about unidentified flying objects (UFOs) and aliens, discussing pilots’ sightings, government secrecy, and his own access to information during interviews and appearances.
Public interest in unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAPs) surged after Congress and the Pentagon released reports and held hearings, making presidential comments—past and present—central to understanding what the government might know and disclose. A 2021 survey by Pew Research Center found that almost two-thirds (65 percent) of Americans believe that intelligent life could exist on other planets.
Trump’s evolving remarks offer a window into how a former and current president talks about alleged sightings.
In June 2019, Trump said he had been briefed on Navy UFO reports and expressed doubt, stating to ABC News: “I did have one very brief meeting on it,” adding that “people are saying they’re seeing UFOs. Do I believe it? Not particularly.”
Also in 2019, he told Tucker Carlson he wasn’t convinced in the existence of UFOs. “Well, I don’t want to really get into it too much. But personally, I tend to doubt it,” Trump said. “I’m not a believer, but you know, I guess anything is possible.”
In June 2020, when his son Donald Trump Jr. asked him about revealing “what’s really going on with Roswell,” Trump answered, per The Hill: “I won’t talk to you about what I know about it, but it’s very interesting.”
On Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast in June 2024, Trump said he had met with pilots who described seeing “things you wouldn’t believe,” reiterating he was not a believer himself. “But I have met with people, serious people, that say there are some really strange things flying around out there.”
On Greg Gutfeld’s Fox News show in September 2024, Trump said the question he may get more than any other is about aliens in Area 51, and repeated that pilots told him of a “round object going faster than any F-22.”

SpaceX Dragon Astronauts Make Valentine's Day Docking Boosting Skeleton Crew
http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/LLGr2iVHPM2sCQ4ajCeWoj-970-80.jpg
The residents of the International Space Station received a special Valentine's Day treat.
SpaceX's Crew-12 astronaut mission docked with the short-staffed International Space Station (ISS) on Saturday (Feb. 14) at 3:15 p.m. EST (2015 GMT), ending a 34-hour orbital chase.
"With that gentle contact, we have bridged the legacy of humankind's continuous presence in space. It has been more than 25 years at this very site," radioed Jessica Meir, Crew-12 commander. "The International Space Station is more than a structure, it is a promise kept. Decades in the making, built by nations, sustained by trust and partnerships, and powered by science, innovation and curiosity."
"As we look back at Earth through these windows, we are reminded that cooperation is not just possible, it is essential. Up here there are no borders and hope is universal," she said.
After docking, the crew will change out of their spacesuits and prepare cargo for offload before opening the hatch between Dragon and the space station’s Harmony module around 5 p.m. [EST].
Crew-12 launched atop a Falcon 9 rocket from Florida's Cape Canaveral Space Force Station early Friday morning (Feb. 13), sending four astronauts toward the ISS aboard the Crew Dragon capsule "Freedom."

Those crewmembers are NASA's Meir and Jack Hathaway, the mission's commander and pilot, respectively; mission specialist Sophie Adenot of the European Space Agency; and mission specialist Andrey Fedyaev of the Russian space agency Roscosmos.
The Crew-12 astronauts are expected to live and work aboard the ISS through October, making their stint a bit longer than the usual six-month crew rotation.
The quartet is joining up with three other spaceflyers on the ISS — NASA's Chris Williams and cosmonauts Sergey Kud-Sverchkov and Sergei Mikaev. The trio have had the orbiting lab to themselves since Jan. 15, when the four-person Crew-11 mission headed home to Earth.

Heart-shaped Stellar Outburst Stuns Astronomers
http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/npDqFnZRzYkiKe4GXegfq4-498-80.png
Astronomers have spotted a heart in the cosmos — and it's not Cupid's doing, but rather a dying star shedding its layers.
A red giant star called Mira A, located about 300 light-years from Earth, has ejected a vast cloud of gas and dust resembling the shape of a heart. The lovely cloud glows against the void of space, not unlike a cosmic Valentine's Day signal.
Mira A is in the late stages of its life, a red giant swelling and losing mass as it prepares to fade into a white dwarf. While stars of this type routinely shed material, the sheer scale and symmetry of Mira A's recent outflow surprised astronomers, according to a new study.
"We were very surprised to see this structure," study lead author Theo Khouri, an astronomer from Chalmers University, said in a statement. "We also see that the star's illumination of the surrounding dust varies in an unexpected way, which implies that the star acts like a lighthouse — illuminating its environment unevenly."
The expelled matter amounts to roughly seven Earth masses, far more than scientists would expect, with gas filling the heart's interior and dust outlining the edges. The star's light also sweeps across the cloud like a cosmic beacon, causing the heart-shaped plume to glow as if it were radiating love into space.

Trump's Greenland Grab is Part of a New Space Race
– and the stakes are getting higher
http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/qFPA7c7tzaiDh2qzfKkXiT-650-80.jpg
Pituffik Space Base, formerly Thule Air Base, in northern Greenland
US President Donald Trump's position on Greenland has shifted almost daily, from threats to take it by force to assurances he won't. But one thing remains consistent: his insistence the Arctic island is strategically vital to the United States.
Within hours of the president's speech at this week’s Davos summit, Reports began circulating that Washington and Copenhagen had quietly discussed giving the US small, remote patches of Greenland for new military sites. Nothing confirmed, everything whispered, but the speed of the speculation said a lot.
What once felt like Trumpian theatre suddenly looked like a real geopolitical move. It was also a hint Arctic power plays are now bleeding into the politics of outer space.
This all happened very quickly. The notion the US might buy Greenland from Denmark (which resurfaced in 2019) was at first treated like a late-night comedy sketch. But behind the jokes lay a growing unease the Trump administration's fixation with Greenland was part of a wider geostrategic ambition in the "western hemisphere" – and beyond.
That's because Greenland sits at the crossroads of two fast-shifting frontiers: a warming Arctic that will change shipping routes, and an increasingly militarised outer space.
As global tensions rise, the island has become a geopolitical pressure gauge, revealing how the old international legal order is beginning to fray.
At the centre of it all is Pituffik Space Base, formerly known as Thule Air Base. Once a Cold War outpost, it's now a key part of the US military's Space Force hub, vital for everything from missile detection to climate tracking. In a world where orbit is the new high ground, that visibility is strategic gold.
Trump has leaned hard into this logic. He's repeatedly praised Thule as one of the most important assets for watching what happens above the Earth, and has urged the US to "look at every option" to expand its presence.
Whether by force, payment or negotiation, the core message hasn't changed: Greenland is central to America's Arctic and space ambitions.

Whatever he said, it's definitely doing the rounds in mainstream media as "Aliens are Real". Make of this what you will, but there does appear to be a shift occurring.
Obama’s ‘aliens confession’ is prepping us for a definitive announcement, UFO expert claims
http://metro.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/SEC_285405294-078f.jpg?quality=90&strip=all&w=646
Barack Obama casually revealing that the truth is (maybe) out there hints at a big ‘twist’ to come in the search for alien life, UFO experts say.
The former US President was asked on Saturday whether he believes aliens are real.
‘They’re real, but I haven’t seen them. They are not being kept in Area 51,’ he told YouTuber and podcast host Brian Tyler Cohen.
Obama clarified in an Instagram post that his remarks weren’t to be taken too seriously, though said ‘statistically’ it’s likely extraterrestrial life exists.
A 2024 report (https://media.defense.gov/2024/Mar/08/2003409233/-1/-1/0/DOPSR-CLEARED-508-COMPLIANT-HRRV1-08-MAR-2024-FINAL.PDF) by the Pentagon found no evidence of an alien cover-up, though it said that the belief that the government is hiding aliens will persist.
Nick Pope, who investigated UFOs for the British Ministry of Defence in the 1990s, said Obama’s comments have only intensified this belief.
‘Much of the UFO community has taken this as quasi-official confirmation of an extraterrestrial reality,’ Pope told Metro. He added that rumours are swirling of a ‘disclosure’ event, where long-classified files around what are now called Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena will be released.
‘Obama’s comments are being seen as part of an acclimatisation campaign, readying people ahead of a definitive, formal announcement,’ Pope said.
‘Hang onto your hats: there are probably further twists to this tale ahead.’

Tuesday, Feb. 17 - New Moon annular solar eclipse
http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/5BeGuH5oZgzKh6zVFYmpiM-970-80.jpg
When the Moon passes the sun in western Aquarius at new moon on Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 7:01 a.m. EST, 4:01 a.m. PST, or 12:01 GMT, it will generate a solar eclipse visible from the southern tip of South America, most of Antarctica, southeastern Africa, Madagascar, the Seychelles, and Mauritius.
Since the Moon is farther from the South Pole of the Earth, it will be too small to completely block the Sun's disk, resulting in an annular, or "ring of fire", solar eclipse visible along a narrow track that sweeps across the Victoria Land portion of Antarctica and ends in the Southern Ocean south of western Australia. The partial eclipse will run from 10:51 GMT to 12:44 GMT, but the brief annular phase will only appear from 11:47 to 11:49 GMT. No portion of this eclipse can be viewed or photographed without proper solar filters.
Wednesday, Feb. 18 - Sliver of Moon poses with Mercury and Venus
http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/VMedEMZHmLk3mJBSpVhVgf-970-80.jpg
Above the western horizon for a brief time after sunset on Wednesday, Feb. 18, the 2%-illuminated, young crescent Moon will join the inner planets Mercury and Venus.
In the Americas, the Moon will swap partners — appearing telescope-close (green circle) below Mercury while much brighter Venus gleams a generous palm's width below them. Meanwhile, observers located in a zone extending from the eastern coast of Australia and across New Zealand, southeastern Melanesia, parts of Polynesia, the Baha Peninsula, and most of Mexico and Central America can safely watch the Moon occult Mercury after sunset.
Thursday, Feb. 19 - Earthshine Moon joins a planet party
http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/UpCKuMSfCHorB94kEeNZWY-970-80.jpg
In the western sky after sunset on Thursday, Feb. 19, the young crescent Moon will exhibit Earthshine, also known as the Ashen Glow and "the old moon in the new moon's arms". That's sunlight reflected off Earth and back onto the Moon, slightly brightening the dark portion of the moon's Earth-facing hemisphere.
Brilliant Venus will shine just above the horizon with somewhat less-dazzling Mercury a palm's width above it. As the sky darkens more, Saturn's yellowish dot will appear a short distance to the left of the Moon.

For 2,500 years, this plant relieved pain without addiction. Confederate surgeons used it when morphine ran out during the Civil War. Polish doctors prescribed it as a safer alternative to opium. By 1898, it was listed in the United States Pharmacopoeia alongside aspirin and morphine as official medicine.
Then in 1944, it vanished from medical practice. Not because it failed, but because the pharmaceutical industry built an $80 billion pain relief empire on patentable synthetic molecules. A plant that grows free, requires no prescription, and generates no recurring revenue had no place in that system.

Yeah RCC relics are creepy. Saw my first ones at a monastery in Switzerland, on a day trip with a summer camp. Later saw some at a convent in Canada, between hitchhike rides looking for a bathroom (got a meal out of that, too). Fingernails, lockes of hair, iirc a whole finger. Oof.
AFAIK, this is only a Roman Catholic thing, tho I wouldn’t be surprised if the Orthodox Church did it. Protestant Christianity, which I grew up in (and later quit), doesn’t do that.

Do Animals Experience Joy?
Short answer: Yes.
___
Diverse Intelligences: The Search for Joy in Animals
Researchers have found that great apes, dolphins, and kea parrots display measurable signs of joy — such as laughter, play, and optimistic behavior — suggesting that joy is not uniquely human but a shared feature of intelligent, social animals.
http://www.sciencenews.org/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/01/022026_animal-joy_feat_opt1.jpg
“The study of animal emotions is really in its infancy… There’s a lot of research on fear, on anger, and on grief. And there’s very little research on joy,” says Erica Cartmill, PhD, Professor of Cognitive Science, Animal Behavior and Anthropology at Indiana University Bloomington. Cartmill directs the COMPARE Lab (Comparing Other Minds in Play, Adaptation, Representation, and Emotion), where her team investigates how humans and other animals reason about and communicate with one another. In 2024, she and her collaborators published findings on spontaneous playful teasing in all four great ape species, highlighting a form of complex, joy-related social behavior.
“Victory squeals, warble calls, laughter… these may all be emotional signals, and the idea is that they might actually affect the internal state of other individuals,” explains Heidi Lyn, PhD, Associate Professor and Joan M. Sinnott Chair of Psychology at the University of South Alabama. Her research spans marine mammals, dogs, and apes, focusing on how cognition and communication emerge across species and environments.
Colin Allen, PhD, Distinguished Professor of Philosophy at the University of California, Santa Barbara, studies the philosophical foundations of cognitive science and neuroscience. “Joy is a natural phenomenon,” he says, “and like all natural phenomena, we should be able to study it scientifically.”
The current research centers on three highly intelligent, social species: great apes, dolphins, and kea parrots. Researchers are using tools such as thermal imaging, vocalization analysis, and behavioral observation to investigate how joy might arise in animals, how it spreads, and how it influences behavior. These species were chosen for their intelligence, social complexity, and playfulness, as well as their evolutionary distance from one another. That evolutionary gap helps researchers explore whether and how joy might emerge across very different types of animals.
CNJ40rtlzMD
https://www.instagram.com/p/CNJ40rtlzMD/
This research raises important questions about how we understand and relate to other species. It challenges the idea that emotions like joy, empathy, and love are uniquely human. Cartmill suggests that resistance to the idea of animal joy may stem from our desire to maintain a belief in “human uniqueness that we would like to continue to believe in.” Lyn adds, “There’s no question in my mind that humans are unique, but so is every other species.”
Ultimately, says Cartmill, “if we can start to appreciate moments of beauty and meaning and joy in the lives of other species, then we’ll be able to better appreciate them in each other and in ourselves. And that’s certainly something that I hope we will take away from this study: a greater capacity for joy in our own lives.”

1,400-Year-Old Tomb Built By Mexico’s ‘Cloud People’ Found Unbelievably Unchanged
http://allthatsinteresting.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/archaeologists-at-zapotec-tomb.jpg
During recent excavations in the Central Valleys of the Mexican state of Oaxaca, archaeologists suddenly found themselves face to face with a great owl — a stone owl, draped over the entrance to the antechamber of an ancient tomb. The archaeologists had uncovered an ornate and astonishingly well-preserved burial monument from the Zapotec culture, which Mexican officials are now hailing as nothing short of “exceptional.”
http://allthatsinteresting.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/zapotec-tomb-antechamber-entrance.jpg
This Zapotec tomb is not only well-preserved, but extremely detailed in its carvings, murals, and other adornments. Archaeologists suspect that it was built some 1,400 years ago to honor a Zapotec lord, and it offers invaluable insights into this civilization’s social organization, funerary rituals, and overall worldview in the pre-Hispanic era. The Zapotec tomb was found during excavations in the municipality of San Pablo Huitzo.
Though it dates to roughly 600 C.E., the tomb is incredibly well-preserved, and is already being hailed as one of the most important archaeological discoveries in Mexico’s recent history.
“It is the most important archaeological discovery of the last decade in Mexico,” said Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, “due to its level of preservation and the information it provides.”
Archaeologists believe that the tomb was constructed for an important Zapotec lord. At the entrance of the tomb’s antechamber is an owl — a bird that symbolized both night and death in Zapotec culture — whose long beak drapes down over the stuccoed and painted face of a man. This man, likely the person to whom the tomb was dedicated, possibly came to be seen as a liaison between his descendants and Zapotec deities.
At the threshold of the tomb is a lintel (a horizontal support beam) that includes a stone frieze engraved with calendrical names. Meanwhile, alongside the vertical jambs, there are engravings of a man and a woman, both wearing headdresses and holding artifacts, who may be the guardians of the tomb. And inside the burial chamber are sections of “an extraordinary mural painting” of “ochre, white, green, red and blue colors,” depicting a procession of people carrying bags of copal, a sacred tree resin.
The tomb thus provides a fascinating look at the Zapotec civilization, which existed in Oaxaca from 700 B.C.E. until roughly 1500 C.E.

Look for the colors of the stars in the night sky
http://earthsky.org/upl/2022/12/Kaleidocosmo1-Paolo-Palma-Naples-Italy-April-7-2022-e1671034627258.jpg
Paolo Palma in Naples, Italy, created this composite of the colors of the stars with images of individual stars taken over the course of 2 years, which he calls Kaleidocosmo. He captured all the stars he could see from Naples – up to +5 magnitude and brighter – some 1,250 stars! Then, he imaged each star out of focus to capture its color and created this composite, with the size of each star based on how bright it is. He wrote: “Kaleidocosmo can reveal how much the starry sky is more colorful than we imagine …”
___
Tonight, go outside, and let your eyes adjust to the dark. Then note the subtle differences in the colors of the stars. You don’t even have to know any star names or any constellations. Just glance around the sky, and notice the color differences in the stars.
It’s helpful to know that a star’s true colors are more apparent as the star climbs higher in the sky, moving above the turbulence of Earth’s atmosphere. So, if you have good eyesight and a dark, clear sky, you should be able to detect hints of color within the brighter stars.
And if you have difficulty discerning star colors with the unaided eye, look at the bright stars through binoculars. A useful trick is to put the star out of focus in your binoculars so the color will become more obvious.
The light of a star reveals many things, including the star’s surface temperature. The yellowish color of Capella indicates a mid-range surface temperature, much like our sun. The red of Aldebaran is typical of the lower surface temperature of an older star, whereas the blue of the Pleiades reveals their high surface temperatures and young age. In fact, the surface temperature – or color – of a star determines its spectral class.
On the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram below, you can see the different spectral classes listed across the bottom of the chart with temperatures going from hottest to coolest. Also, it shows the colors of stars associated with each spectral class and temperature.
http://earthsky.org/upl/2018/10/Hertzsprung-Russel_StarData.png
So what are the spectral classes of Capella, Aldebaran, Sirius, Betelgeuse, Rigel and the Pleiades? Capella is a G star. Our sun is also a G star. Both our sun and Capella shine with a golden light. Aldebaran and Betelgeuse are cool stars and appear reddish. Aldebaran is a K type star and Betelgeuse is an M type star. Sirius is an A type star and appears white. Rigel and the stars of Pleiades are type B stars.
Orion the Hunter is a great place to see the different colors of the stars. Rigel appears in the lower right of the constellation. Contrast its bluish-white light with that of reddish Betelgeuse in the upper left. Most of Orion’s stars are hot blue-white stars.
http://earthsky.org/upl/2025/02/Orion-constellation-colors-stars-spectral-classes-Paolo-Palma-Italy-Dec-1-2023.jpg
Paolo: “Orion is probably the most beautiful constellation in the sky and its bright stars make it easily recognizable to anyone. This is how it would look if we could also see the colors of all the stars. Also shown are stars that can represent spectral classes, a beautiful color scale that can reveal the relationship between color and spectral class (temperature) of stars.” le to anyone. This is how it would look if we could also see the colors of all the stars. Also shown are stars that can represent spectral classes, a beautiful color scale that can reveal the relationship between color and spectral class (temperature) of stars.”

Orion's Cradle by Piotr Czerski

Cradled in red-glowing hydrogen gas, stars are being born in Orion. These stellar nurseries lie at the edge of the giant Orion molecular cloud complex, some 1,500 light-years away. This detailed view spans about 12 degrees across the center of the well-known constellation, with the Great Orion Nebula, the closest large star-forming region, visible toward the lower right. The deep mosaic also includes, near the top center, the Flame Nebula and the Horsehead Nebula.
Image data acquired with a hydrogen-alpha filter adds other remarkable features to this wide-angle cosmic vista: pervasive tendrils of energized atomic hydrogen gas and portions of the surrounding Barnard's Loop. While the Orion Nebula and many stars in Orion are easy to see with the unaided eye, emission from the extensive interstellar gas is faint and much harder to record, even in telescopic views of the nebula-rich complex.

Wikipedia: Congressional Investigation
Reps Comer and Mace Launch Investigation into Wikipedia Information Manipulation
For years, researchers and education professionals have claimed that Wikipedia content was altered to promote specific narratives. Congress seems to have taken notice.
http://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/$s_!U-7Q!,w_1456,c_limit,f_webp,q_auto:good,fl_progressive:steep/https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F6cf3c34b-1db6-451b-93dc-f17792104b0d_932x640.png
The influence of moderators on the most widely used content website has long been debated.
Recently, the downgrading of the news website "The Debrief" based on the opinion of a few moderators rekindled outrage. It seems that the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee has decided to intervene. In an announcement on their website, they state that they are “investigating organized efforts, undertaken in violation of Wikipedia platform rules, to influence U.S. public opinion on important and sensitive topics by manipulating Wikipedia articles”.
Any reasonable person would be astonished by the fact that AI chatbot companies are using community-driven content to feed their software when there is already a wealth of trusted and reliable encyclopedias that could have provided the content.
Cost-cutting logic and access to information over reliability drive such companies. With an information system so fragile that institutions have discouraged students from using it for decades, one can only wonder what damage and social manipulation a coordinated group could cause by infiltrating the organization and, in effect, "rewrite history."

Feb 17 Solar Eclipse
Blazing 'Ring of Fire' Eclipse Seen From Space
http://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/oWJyQWfVXi6w7mZiSHeUuQ-970-80.jpg
ESA's Proba-2 satellite captured a stunning 'ring of fire' annular solar eclipse from orbit — a view few on Earth could see.
On Feb. 17, 2026, the moon slipped directly between Earth and the sun, creating a spectacular 'ring of fire' visible to very few people on Earth, but ESA's Proba-2 had had the best seat in the house.
From its vantage point in orbit, the satellite was able to witness the annular solar eclipse in striking detail — not once, but four times during its orbit, including a perfect 'ring of fire' at 6:31 a.m. EST (1131 GMT) when the moon occulted just over 93% of the sun's disk.
The stunning image was captured with Proba-2's SWAP instrument, which views the sun in extreme ultraviolet light, revealing details of the sun's corona — the outermost layer of the sun's atmosphere.

Rowan Atkinson Sketch - Reading Of Will - approx. 1985
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T29hBG44wiU[/url]I spent a week with some friends at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe way back in 1976, and one of the evening shows we went to was a performance by the Oxford University Dramatic Society. It was a purely random choice.
The whole thing was Rowan Atkinson, almost all just him solo on stage, doing 100% original stuff. No-one had ever seen or heard of him before. He brought the whole house down, the audience in raptures of laughter.
He was so astonishingly good that my friends and I returned to see him the very next night, and he was every bit as clever and funny the second time. I made a note of his name and said to myself that whoever this extraordinary new comic talent was, he'd go VERY VERY far.

Ultrafast 3D Printing Method Creates Complex Objects in Under a Second
http://scx1.b-cdn.net/csz/news/800a/2026/ultrafast-3d-printing.jpg
High-speed 3D printing has just gotten a lot faster. Researchers from Tsinghua University in China have developed a new high-speed printing technology capable of creating complex millimeter-scale objects in just 0.6 seconds. Traditional 3D printing is often slow because it builds objects one thin layer at a time. While a newer method called volumetric printing, which uses light to shape an object, has become progressively faster in recent years, it has hit a major speed bump.
Typically, light is shone into a vat of fast-spinning liquid resin from many different angles at once. However, if you spin the liquid too fast, it can wobble or vibrate, which ruins the print. The solution has been to add thick, syrupy resins to keep the object in place. But this makes the process slower.
What the team has done, as they detail in a paper published in the journal Nature, is create a method that doesn't involve spinning the liquid. Instead, DISH (Digital Incoherent Synthesis of Holographic Light Fields) uses a high-speed rotating periscope to project light from multiple angles into the resin, which stays perfectly still.
The technology relies on a chip covered with millions of tiny mirrors (a Digital Micromirror Device) that flip and change light patterns 17,000 times per second. To prevent blurring, the team developed an algorithm that calculates how to project the light so it builds up in exactly the right places to form the object, while keeping the rest of the resin from hardening. This means the resulting 3D object is razor-sharp from top to bottom.
In tests, the team produced complex objects such as a millimeter-scale Theodoric statue and intricate gear-like structures in 0.6 seconds. They also hooked the printer to a tube and pumped watery, light-sensitive resin through it, shining light on the liquid as it moved. This produced a variety of objects, including flowers and hollow tubes mimicking blood vessels, proving the printer could be turned into a high-speed assembly line to mass-produce parts almost instantly.

Using Moon Dirt With 3D Printing to Build Future Lunar Colonies
http://scx1.b-cdn.net/csz/news/800a/2026/moon-surface.jpg
Simulated lunar dirt can be turned into extremely durable structures, potentially paving the way to more sustainable and cost-effective space missions, a new study suggests. Using a special laser 3D printing method, researchers melted fake lunar soil—a synthetic version of the fine dusty material on the moon surface, called regolith simulant—into layers and fused it with a base surface to manufacture small, heat-resistant objects.
If utilized on the lunar surface, the material may help build sturdy, nontoxic habitats and tools for future astronauts, capabilities that would be vital to the NASA Artemis missions that aim to establish a long-term human presence on the moon by the end of the decade.
But to assess how well this new construction material may work in space, the team tested their fabrication process under a range of different environmental conditions, revealing that the overall quality of the material depends greatly on the surface onto which the soil is printed.
Other environmental factors, such as the amount of oxygen in the atmosphere, the strength of the laser and even the speed of the printing process, were also shown to impact the stability of the structure, said Sarah Wolff, senior author of the study and an assistant professor in mechanical and aerospace engineering at Ohio State.
"There are conditions that happen in space that are really hard to emulate in a simulant," she said. "It may work in the lab, but in a resource-scarce environment, you have to try everything to maximize the flexibility of a machine for different scenarios.
If we can successfully manufacture things in space using very few resources, that means we can also achieve better sustainability on Earth. To that end, improving the machine's flexibility for different scenarios is a goal we're working really hard toward."

A METEOR STORM OVER MISSOURI?
No, it's just SpaceX. Only one of these streaks in the night sky over Albany, Missouri, is a natural meteor.

"Shown here is a lonely bright meteor artificially outlined against the Starlink satellites ...
https://www.spaceweather.com/images2026/26feb26/lonelymeteor.jpg
... passing through the atmosphere on Feb. 23rd," says photographer Dan Bush. "Also seen are dozens of satellites whose paths crisscrossed the night sky during the ~10 minute integration time. Two or three lines along the horizon just above the trees are planes."
The majority of these streaks are Starlink satellites. At a conference in 2020, Elon Musk famously said, (https://www.c4isrnet.com/battlefield-tech/space/2020/03/09/elon-musk-dismisses-astronomers-concerns-over-starlink/)
"I am confident that we will not cause any (interference) in astronomical discoveries. Zero. We'll take corrective action if it's above zero."
It might be time to start.
In only two days since Bush took this photo, SpaceX has launched 54 more Starlinks, bringing the 2026 total to 512. Altogether, there are now 9,833 Starlinks swarming our planet. Here (https://heavens-above.com/StarLink.aspx) is what that looks like.
With no end in sight for SpaceX launches, the "meteor storm" will continue for the foreseeable future.

UFO sightings and military encounters have fascinated researchers for decades — but few cases are as unsettling and controversial as the Pentyrch UAP Incident of 2016.
(26:27)

What began as a quiet night in a Welsh village turned into one of the most debated events in modern UFO history: strange lights in the sky, military aircraft scrambling, and a low‑flying helicopter that witnesses later claimed was forced to make an emergency landing at Cardiff Airport.
This 20‑minute animated documentary, created with Unreal Engine, reconstructs the events of that night in cinematic detail. From the first unusual lights over the fields, to the sudden military presence, to the moment when the phenomenon briefly stepped out of the shadows — this film follows the timeline exactly as witnesses described it.

Central to the story is Caz Clarke (pictured), who has stood by her account from the very beginning, never changing a single detail — and even passing a professional polygraph test about what she witnessed. Her testimony, combined with multiple independent reports, forms the backbone of one of the most compelling UFO cases in the UK.

Aries Equinox 2026 March 20th 2026
https://www.clipartmax.com/png/full/334-3349327_the-best-pillows-for-sleeping-guide-slumbr-pillow-clipart.png
Pam discusses the Aries Equinox of March 20th, and the broad themes of the next 12 months based on this chart. The myth of Nessus was that he was helping the wife of Hercules, Dieneira, across a river, and tried to rape her. Hercules saw this and shot him with a poisoned arrow. As Nessus lay dying, he told Dieneira that if she took some of his blood, if she ever suspected Hercules' loyalty, to give him the bloodied shirt that Nessus was wearing and that would keep him loyal. She did this, but as a result of the poisoned blood, Hercules died. So this myth is linked to blood, poisoning, death, and deception. Is this relevant to our circumstances today in any way?
