FYI:
"Scottish National Party (SNP) leaders have revealed an independent Scotland would shift away from the UK and become affiliated with the Scandinavian circle of countries.

As senior SNP strategists are drawing up a “prospectus for independence,” they have maintained that the relationship between Scotland and its Scandinavian neighbors would be taken to a higher level as they assert that Scotland has more in common with Scandinavian countries than the UK.

Moreover, the SNP strategists believe that it is in the interests of an independent Scotland to seek trade and defence partners in northern and eastern Europe rather than the western Europe and the Commonwealth.

“Our neighbours to the north and east have already made a good start and work constructively together. We need to join them and play our part. The UK has opted out of a serious approach. We should not,” said Angus Robertson, the SNP's defence and foreign affairs spokesman in Westminster.

The prospectus, which will not be published in full until next year, also forms the basis for negotiations with Westminster in case the referendum on Scotland's independence is won.

As specified by the prospectus, Alex Salmond, the SNP leader and Scottish First Minister, will ask for 9% of all UK assets, which amounts to Scotland's share of the UK population.

Scotland's independence has already caused concerns among the UK officials with revelations about plans by British Prime Minister David Cameron to hijack the referendum.

Nevertheless, Salmond has threatened to “sabotage” any such moves saying he would call for a boycott on any referendum orchestrated by Cameron."

Good luck to the Scots who are really Irish, if they want to leave one group of Anglo Saxon Vikings and join another lot of 'Herring eating' Vikings 'Skol' to them.....
Although unless they are deep fried I cannot see them eating them..LOL

Don't know where it will get them probably in the Euro. just in time to bale out the southern Europeans , countries......
Especially when the French come a calling with the old 'gallic' charm seeking to renew the 'Auld Alliance'...
Alex Salmon seems a nice man and his heart is in the right place, and it does not bother me if they want to leave home and start a knew. It won't make a lot
of difference down here as there are probably more Scots this side of the border than up there....Our last three PM's all have strong scottish roots
Brown, Blair and Cameron.......

In 410 AD when the Romans left Britton there was no England,Irland, Scotland, wales only a fractured former province and northern tribes of the Caladonians about to be
thrown into wars and invasions for the next 650 years.....Mainly from those same 'pesky' vikings..LOL Angles, Dutes, Danes, Friesiens,Saxons, norwiegens,Scots
and finally the Normans in 1066 when my last true King Harold of Wessex got shot in the Eye at Hastings...

Cidersomerset, that is a great map. Was Latin the common language during those years?

Yes mainly in the towns and by the Romano/British 'gentry' in the countryside in their villas and farmsteads, but local tribal dialects were still in common use as can be seen today by the various
regional accents....

Alex Salmon always reminds me of Private Frazier, the undertaker in Dads Army...

Good on the scots, the original inhabitants off our troubled little Island.
I think the view off having more in common with the nordic peoples is however, B******T
The nordic peoples are healthy, polite, level headed, independent, proud, have great ethics and low crime im sorry to say it but Scotland are there own worst enemies sometimes.
But i would say they are more like the English, Welsh and Irish than they care to admit.
Or rather than we would care to admit.
I say the whole of us should just be proud of the journey we have made in our history, not many countrys and cultures can claim the history and journey we have had.
We are so diverse and mixed its amazing we made it this far. :)

I was going on those lines Sean... when I made refference to the 'Herrings'....LOL.....and we are so mixed up now there are probably more people with Scottish ancestry south of the border
than north, which would not be surprise me.....Steve

I love black pudding, yeah i think the problem has always been that the Scottish have never embraced there past as much as they could have, that is off course mostly due to suppression of Celtic history and culture by the English and early Romans,
I think the whole of Europe is undergoing a drastic change of culture and genetic "peppering" as it where.

The problem with the 'Caladonians' and 'Picts' the Romans never got to 'civilize' them so to speak a bit like those heathen 'Vikings' they want to join, although they
have scrubbed up since then......So the tribes above the wall were not able to say what have the Romans done for us......

ExWfh6sGyso

So Caladonians missed out on all the above...

Apart from that what are the Scandinavians going to make of 'Rab'.....

The one: I agree, we seem so incapable of being proud of what we are, while respecting others for what there are.
