FYI:
"A British anti-arms-trade campaign group has slammed the government for continuing to sell arms to Egypt and Bahrain despite their suppression of popular movements calling for action to stop the trade.

The Campaign Against Arms Trade (CAAT) said the British government's shameful trade continues as Egyptian military rulers in the Supreme Council of Armed Forces (SCAF) killed dozens of pro-reform protestors and injured around 2,000 others ahead of the last week's elections.

The CAAT added London also continues to sell arms to the Bahraini government in spite of the fact that the Persian Gulf state's officials press ahead with their “systematic repression” even after they admitted to “instances” of abuse against anti-regime demonstrators.

“The government is still promoting weapons sales to authoritarian regimes: it invited 14 to the DSEi arms fair in London this September. And despite public outcry about its arms sales to the Middle East and North Africa, it is still arming dictators and human rights abusers today,” the CAAT said on its website.

The campaign group is calling for a “mass lobby” to gather 200 MPs' signatures for a petition to trigger a parliamentary debate against selling weapons to repressive regimes such as Egyptian military rulers and the Bahraini government.

“At our mass lobby during the DSEi arms fair, MPs from six different parties put down Early Day Motion (EDM) 2166, a parliamentary petition calling for an end to arms sales to repressive regimes,” the CAAT said.

It added that the signatures need to reach the 200 level before the EDM closes in May 2012 to prevent London from arming dictators."
