Hi Curtis
It is blowing a gale in Wales and absolutely hammering it down with rain.. I'm sorry to say that this is not unusual here in Britain! Although hurricanes are not common you'll be pleased to hear. :-)

BIG WINDS here in North East Canada, we've lost power several times today already. Solar flares?

That's good news. Funny enough, as I was leaving New England to move here the end of August there was a hurricane there. Then when I arrived in the UK, the UK got hit with a hurricane. And then there's today's hurricane. A guy could start to get paranoid. lol.

This is no good. The lights are flickering. Since I don't have a poltergeist, I suppose that leaves the gale force winds as the likely culprit. Better crank the heat up and get it nice and toasty in case I lose electricity. Fat lot of good the electric fireplace will do me in any emergency.

Just as I typed the title to this thread I got a tweet from STV saying a tornado was seen in Glasgow earlier.
Here in Aberdeen it has been crazy. The wind is incredibly powerful. It's blowing full force now and has been on and off all day since this morning. I'm new to the UK. Does this sort of weather happen often or is this part of 'the new weather' that we're experiencing globally?
I'm curious what people think, and also how it's been elsewhere in Britain.
In the most recent news, winds are blowing at 165mph in Fyfe.

Just before going out to clean up the mess from yesterday, popped online and got a good chuckle at this.
Scotland’s Hurricane Bawbag raises Twitter storm – the top reactions
Today’s severe weather in Scotland has attracted worldwide attention after being dubbed ‘Hurricane Bawbag’ – here’s the best of the reactions so far. (Updated at 5pm)
Twitter has #hurricanebawbag as a top worldwide trend at the moment, meaning that millions of Twitter users around the globe will suddenly be wondering what on earth a “bawbag” actually is.
Sensitive souls may want to look away now, but according to folklore it’s a vulgar Scottish term used for the scrotum, also derogatively against anybody who’s a bit of an idiot. (For example, Jeremy Clarkson may often be thought of as a complete bawbag. Matthew Wright was definitely a bawbag earlier in the week. And so on and so forth.)

The comments are hillarious.
“BREAKING: #scotstorm is rated as "awfally blowie" on the Wee Wifie scale. The WW scale runs from "huffin" tae "haud oantae ma breeks" :-)”
“Panic buying caused by #hurricanebawbag has resulted in shelves being stripped bare of Irn Bru, Pot Noodles and Green Rizzlas” :pound:
For the more serious researchers you can find it on Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Bawbag) :)
If they follow the rules on naming hurricanes we are in trouble. C is next.

Hi! It's very windy here in Sweden also, at least on the east- and westcoast with electricity "gone out"; probably some connection to the Scottish storms....
