Everyone should be supplementing wit Vitamin D3. The abundance of studies points to the fact that its one thing that you can do to promote health and longevity. The sooner the better. Get a blood test to see where you stand. Supplement to bring your levesl up to at least 60. I keep mine between 70 and 90 due to chronic disease I've had in the past. Most adults require 5,000 IU a day. Elderly may require 10,000 IU a day. The best brand I have found is from Biotec and I have verified its effacy. I get it from www.vitalady.com (http://www.vitalady.com) and her lable D3 is the same stuff in a different package, slighly less expensive.

From Dr. Steve Kroening's "Nutrient Insider" from Advanced Bionutritionals, December 19, 2011

"You probably already know that vitamin D helps prevent many serious diseases. These include cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and even the flu. But researchers wanted to know if the amazing vitamin/hormone can prevent Alzheimer's. What they found is startling!

"In this study, the researchers knew that Alzheimer's patients typically suffer from low vitamin D levels. So they wanted to find out why. They surmised that the vitamin D helps clear the brain of beta amyloid protein clumps. This protein is the primary cause of Alzheimer's disease.

"To find out, the researchers used mice they genetically altered to develop dementia. Then they injected them with vitamin D. The researchers then looked at the accumulation of beta amyloid on their brains. They found that the vitamin D cleared the damaging protein before it could accumulate. The researchers believe the nutrient transports the protein across the blood-brain barrier. Once it passes through this barrier, the body can dispose of it much easier.

"Past studies have shown that the body's ability to extract this protein from the brain diminishes as we age. If the protein remains in our brain, it builds up into sticky clusters, which can affect our brain's ability to function properly. This study showed that the reason our body doesn't remove the protein is at least partially related to our vitamin D levels."

Thanks Arrowind , Since the Henry Deacon Camelot interview 2/3 yrs ago,in which he recommended vit D3 to combat the the threat of the flu epidemic,
I have been taking vit D3 since then. At the moment I take 2 tablets a day, but it can vary.
As i work outside, I did not take them in the summer, and combined with echinacea capsules ,I have not had a cold since i started.
I take 3 capsules a day, but again in the summer I stopped. A few times I have had cold symptoms, sore throat and the usual makings
of a cold. When this happens I up the echinacea capsules for a couple of days and so far the cold has not developed.
So I would recommend D3 and echinacea caps from personal onging experiance....Steve

look closer at the ingrediants of D3 from Vitalady Arrowwind, contains, Silicon dioxide,Dicalcium phosphate, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium selerate and croscamellose sodium, now there,s a healthy combination, check out what they do to the body, more importantly ask the question why are they there in the first place

I like Dr. Mercola's Vitamin D-3 Spray (http://www.swansonvitamins.com/SWU506/ItemDetail?n=0) myself.

It's extra ingredients are:

Purified water, vegetable glycerin, xylitol, vitamin E (as d-alpha tocopheryl succinate in a base of polyethylene glycol), rosemary extract, citric acid (natural preservative), potassium sorbate, natural spearmint flavor.
Any idea if any of those are dubious?

I think there are several old threads on Vit D 3 (?) as I remember discussing this on here before. This would be a good time to revisit or merge them as this is very important information.

I also started taking vitamin D3 in 2009 when the swine flue scare was around, and I went from being someone who often had colds, to someone who rarely has a cold. However, there were other things I changed in my diet, and I started taking various other things like Spirulina, krill oil etc, and I try to only eat organic food. But I'm pretty sure that the vitamin D is the real hero. However, I have also started to become wary of what the other ingredients are that they put in vitamins and mineral tablets - are there any experts here that can tell me what the main ones are that I should keep clear of?
Thanks muchly.

Hi best source of Vitamin D3 is sunlight. Here in Mexico we get plenty of it.

Vitamin D3 cannot be produced by exposure to fake ultra violet (UV) light, such as that found in tanning beds. Natural, nourishing sunlight is the only source of vitamin D3 synthesis in the human body. Consumers can save money on expensive supplements and avoid eating foods they may not enjoy by soaking in the sun’s free UV lamplight. Morning sun is the safest for the body. Head outside for at least 20 minutes each day and expose a minimum of 40 percent of your body to the sun for maximum D3 synthesis. During cold months, pill or liquid supplements may be necessary for many adults.

Here's an interview with Gabriele Stahler and Bill Ryan about the benefits of Vitamin D3 in case you missed it. Very Good. And and I bought some on the strength of this video and . . . I think it's great!

Cant say about that. In my bottle of Biotec D3 it says it contains as inactive ingredients, Microcrystaline cellulose and silica, (which I supplement in anyway and is used as an anti-caking agent) and gelatin

I have tried a number of different D3 products and only Biotec has sufficiently raised my blood levels and only biotec eliminited psoriasis.

Application Microcrystalline Cellulose : Microcrystalline cellulose has many applications in pharmaceuticals, foods, papers and structural composites. Microcrystalline cellulose is a naturally derived stabilizer, texturizing agent, and fat replacer. It is used extensively in reduced-fat salad dressings, numerous dairy products including cheese, frozen desserts and whipped toppings, and bakery products. Microcrystalline cellulose is made up of a chain of about 250 glucose molecules in the form of a microcrystal. In nature, several microcrystals are hinged together and surrounded by amorphous cellulose to form a cellulose microfibril. If the amorphous cellulose is removed, the resultant product is called level off DP (degree of polymerization) microcrystalline cellulose.

what is microcrystaline cellulose?

Anecdotal: My family has taken larger doses of D3 for many years. None of us can remember the last time we had a cold or flu, when those around us are sick constantly. The strict dietary regimen we follow is likely a big factor also, but I'm quite sure the D plays a critical role.

Everything is fine on there, Xylitol isn't sugar though, not really, its a sugar alcohol & is much better for you than sugar, though Stivia is best.

It appears that Vit D is a very absorbable vitamen & any oral application suffices; however natural sun exposure is best as it has multiple benifits.

I Sun gaze when I have time, its a great way to meditate a bit & boost your vit. D levels (along with many other things)

)

Many people do not produce D sufficiently from sun exposure... evidenced in low serum levels in people who spend time in the sun.

Xylitol is actually produced in the body in the midst of different metabolic pathways. I use it as sugar replacement in combination with Stevia for pies and cakes...on those rare occassions when I make them.
