Wishing all a year and always filled with Love, Light and Beauty. May all of your dreams and wishes come true.
The Winter Solstice - Yule Lore
The date varies from December 20 to December 23 depending on the year in the Gregorian calendar. Yule is also known as the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere and the summer solstice in the southern hemisphere due to the seasonal differences.
Yule, (pronounced EWE-elle) is when the dark half of the year relinquishes to the light half. Starting the next morning at sunrise, the sun climbs just a little higher and stays a little longer in the sky each day. Known as Solstice Night, or the longest night of the year, the sun's "rebirth" was celebrated with much joy. On this night, our ancestors celebrated the rebirth of the Oak King, the Sun King, the Giver of Life that warmed the frozen Earth. From this day forward, the days would become longer.

Hello Nora,
Yes, the Oak King has taken his crown from the Holly king with such ease, at least in my neck of the wood, where I walked the solstice labyrinth without hat, jacket or boots. There have been many of a winter solstice night in which I had to shovel out the labyrinth! But today, appreciatively, no work was required for our seasonal winter ritual. And so with a gentle wind, the Holly King released his reign; and I take that as a good sign, at least for us gardeners, that it will be an early and easy planting season!
May the light burn brightly for you and your family as you take each step through this winter season. Wishing you joy and happiness. Happy Yule!!!
Sincerely,
Mr. Davis

Here's the Roman edition of the Solstice from Wiki:
Sol Invictus ("Invincible Sun") was the official sun god of the later Roman empire. In 274 Aurelian made it an official cult alongside the traditional Roman cults. Scholars disagree whether the new deity was a refoundation of the ancient Latin cult of Sol,[1] a revival of the cult of Elagabalus[2] or completely new.[3] The god was favored by emperors after Aurelian and appeared on their coins until Constantine.[4] The last inscription referring to Sol Invictus dates to 387 AD[5] and there were enough devotees in the 5th century that Augustine found it necessary to preach against them.[6] A festival (the Dies Natalis Solis Invicti or birthday of Sol Invictus) on 25 December is thought to be responsible for the date of Christmas.[7]
