View Full Version : The beauty of being Human

The most ancient of stories lost in the eons of time. The joy of giving of ourselves to others is its own reward. On this Christmas night, I was reminded of that simple truth, and pondered the vast depths of what it truly means to be human. We have achieved so much from ancient paths trodden long ago and lost only to be found and lost time and again. Like a treasure so pure it had to be hidden because in that truth of such simplicity of souls fulfilling their simple sense of being each gifted uniquely and when brought together with each others gifts make the world beautiful.

We get glimpses of it in times of trouble when we do not fall apart, but come together in a moment of earnest need. We write epic tales of selfless acts of love and kindness for the sake of helping one another. We give out medals of honor for such deeds because it is not that they were impossible to achieve for they were not, but they required a choice. The setting aside of selfish cares for the love of one another. When we practice simple acts of kindness we remember on a cellular level who we are and what we can be. Humans may lack universal knowledge, we may not live in some fantastical world where everything is perfect, but what we do have is struggle. We have choices to make and sometimes we get it right. We see a need and we reach out of our lack and give. We reach out in love and we give without seeking a reward. There must be countless unknown acts where the giver never was acknowledged, never got their name written down for generations to venerate them and still we gave.

I believe we are on the most incredible journey of the soul and maybe it's achieved in one lifetime or maybe we learn to love this freely and without seeking a reward over many lifetimes, but we continue on the struggle. We come in this world a blank slate. We each have our trials and suffer and at the end of our journey in each life hopefully we learn that it is not in what we have acquired or built, but in whose lives we have shared and loved. This is the great mystery which I believe sets humans apart from the ones who have never known an existence such as the one we have here on this tiny rock in the outer band of the Milky way galaxy. Somehow we are special and most of us do not know how special each incarnated soul is here. Some of us choose to walk the path of selfless love while others just do not understand it yet. It is not for me to judge those who enjoy lifting themselves above another or do not agree with me. It is only for me to walk that walk. To love each soul especially in those times of confusion and disagreement for we have all been there. We all have special gifts and abilities and I hope for all of us to come to see that beauty. I hope for us to reach within to that small place where we know the spirit resides and hears the small voice within calling us to learn peace and settle in contentment to live each moment giving freely in love what we can share.

I do not believe Aliens have anything to teach us. We have full knowing within and it is only be getting caught up in the cares of this world that we lose site of our true selves. We are programmed to run a worldly race, to achieve, accomplish, store up material possessions and pass them down. We are taught that it is not just by being that makes each person beautiful, but it is by what we have that matters. We are inundated with images of success that have nothing to do with true beauty and love. Even our striving for knowledge is a distraction. Yes, seek if that is what your gift is, but what if your gift is singing, cooking, writing, or wood crafting? How many are stuck doing jobs they hate because we have to pay the rent and other bills. We are upside down and inside out and we know it deep down we know it!

The rare person does know it and has quit the game. I wonder how many check out and are written off as lunatics. I don't mean the ones who society gave up on and left out in the cold who live in misery on our streets or starving from lack, but the ones who simply give of themselves and do not seek to lay up huge treasures here on earth. Chasing gold, fame, power and working miserably for decades when none of that matters. I seriously doubt that is our highest good and potential. If we were all in balance giving from our true talents we would lack nothing as a world. Each would be satisfied and content. There would be no fear for fear comes from a sense of loss which would not exist when we are doing what we know within to do for one another as we are gifted. Guilt would be gone for people would not strive to do things they do not find easy to do. Each day would be easy for we would do that which we enjoy doing and know we have nothing to fear.

This all comes from learning the lessons of this world. How can we learn this peace and contentment until we understand the lessons of loss and discouragement? How can we embrace all of ourselves and our emotions without feeling and experiencing them first and knowing it is a choice how we will respond in love or anger that comes out of fear. This world teaches us the difference between a life lived in fear verses a life lived centered in love. It is a choice born out of much knowledge and that is what makes us extraordinary in the universe. I believe we are the most blessed and unique of beings on an amazing journey and we will not fully appreciate it until we do slip this dimension when we leave these clay beings aside. This is kindergarten, and the lessons learned in kindergarten are the most important. From the words of Robert Fulghum I believe these simple things will see us through many a lifetime:

Share everything.
Play fair.
Don't hit people.
Put things back where you found them.
Clean up your own mess.
Don't take things that aren't yours.
Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody.
Wash your hands before you eat.
Flush.
Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.
Live a balanced life -
Learn some and think some
And draw and paint and sing and dance
And play and work everyday some.
Take a nap every afternoon.
When you go out into the world,
Watch out for traffic,
Hold hands and stick together.
Be aware of wonder.
