Hello All,
I recently read that as political tension grew between Britain and America, Benjamin Franklin used more of his time toward his interest with plants and agriculture. He pondered over America’s ability to create wealth and wrote there were three ways for a nation to acquire wealth: 1. War, but he considered that robbery. If that is correct can you imagine what he thinks of America today!
2. Commerce, but he thought generally that was actually cheating. I definitely would like more of his thoughts on that for in many ways I believe that can be true.
3. Agriculture, writing that was the only HONEST way for a nation to create wealth.
He felt that self sufficiency and independence was a great weapon against tyranny, and the colonists saw how home production and self sufficiency supported their own personal liberty and wealth.
Shortly after the American Tea Party event, Franklin wrote his son, then governor of New Jersey, and advised him to give up his position as governor to become a farmer. He wrote, “ Tis an honester and more honourable because a more independent Employment”
Franklin didn’t think it was a good idea for another to control your ability to earn a living. Shall we count the ways the masses are controlled in their ability to earn a living, And be honest in how the masses allowed that spider web to be spun?
The masses essentially lost their security of a roof over their heads and food in their pantry as soon as they decided to sell their time and skill to another to profit off of. Many became an employee working paycheck to paycheck, knowing if he/she missed a paycheck that he/she would loose his/her roof, and have no way to provided food for his/her family. Of course, although there are benefits, sometimes, working for another, it is only prudent to do so when one knows the paycheck one recieves that pays for thie time and skill, doesn’t control the roof over their head, and the food in their pantry. But the masses do not appear to have kept that wisdom in the managing of their lives. And as a result, many are homeless, almost homeless, stressed about being homeless, and can't buy the food they need, becasue they sold their power of independence for a paycheck that they all ended up spending at the metaphorical company store.
Independence and self sufficiency, the foundational basics of privacy, liberty and security hasn’t changed in three hundred years or more. Yet people are quick to give up their privacy and independence, while negotiating their life path, and their family's by working toward dependency and insecurity, rather than Independence and security. Could anyone please tell me why? I have my views; I wonder what yours are? We are facing the collapse of the world financial structure, at the very least, in 2012. What do you think Benjamin Franklin would be doing this winter knowing this is happening? This question is not based on "fear", as many of you will protest. No, this question is based on “applied knowledge” , a term I have borrowed from Anchor. What I am ready to observe is: have people learned their lessons, and how will they, or are they changing their behavior to take back their political power so that they can live in political freedom and integrity.
Sincerely,
Mr. Davis
