Seen any walnuts in your medicine cabinet lately? According to the Food and Drug Administration, that is precisely where you should find them. Because Diamond Foods made truthful claims about the health benefits of consuming walnuts that the FDA didn’t approve, it sent the company a letter declaring, “Your walnut products are drugs” — and “new drugs” at that — and, therefore, “they may not legally be marketed … in the United States without an approved new drug application.” The agency even threatened Diamond with “seizure” if it failed to comply.

unfortunately, i can no longer eat nuts.... i developed some strange allergic reaction too them about 4 years ago. it sucks, because i love them. the last time i ate walnuts, the sides of my neck swelled up like a blow fish.... the last time i ate almonds, my lips swelled up. it was rather embarrassing. i can't even eat peanut butter anymore. although i do sneak a taste every now and again.

America - Welcome to the European Union.
(We've had these types of rules for quite some time)
EU bans claim that water can prevent dehydration
Brussels bureaucrats were ridiculed yesterday after banning drink manufacturers from claiming that water can prevent dehydration.
EU officials concluded that, following a three-year investigation, there was no evidence to prove the previously undisputed fact.
Producers of bottled water are now forbidden by law from making the claim and will face a two-year jail sentence if they defy the edict, which comes into force in the UK next month.

Except for people who are unfortunate enough to have an allergy to nuts, nuts are extremely good for you, especially walnuts so I wouldn't be surprised if these types of public bodies do everything in their power to limit our consumption of them! I have been of the idea for a while now that if authorities repeatedly tell us how bad something is for us, the liklihood is that in reality it is very good for us!
