2011 $20 Canoe Silver Coin
Royal Canadian Mint image of the 2011 $20 Canoe Silver Coin
In the words of artist Jason Bouwman, who chose a distinctly Canadian icon to design this new $20, 99.99% pure silver coin: "the canoe has become as much a part of the Canadian visual lexicon as the Canada goose, the beaver and the maple leaf."
This emblematic subject is captured in the scene of a young person leaning over the side of their canoe to dip a hand in the water and, touching the past, produces the reflection of an early native paddler in a birch-bark canoe, reminiscent of our famous "Voyageur" silver dollar design, first circulated in 1935.

The story, as told by the artist Jason Bouwman
The canoe has become as much a part of the Canadian visual lexicon as the Canada goose, the beaver and the maple leaf. This design shows a young person enjoying a recreational outing. The boy breaks from paddling to dip his hand in the water… and touches the past – the reflection reveals an early native paddler (or voyageur) in a traditional birch-bark canoe as it also appears on the early silver dollar of 1935.
So this is meant to be a boy refecting on his past ancestors. But i must admit it looks more like a Grey than a little boy. I am sure they could have made a far better image of a boy if they had tried. So i conclude it was meant to look like a Gray.
Ancestors and Grays Hmmm. could be a message there. :alien: :heh:

An inside joke? perhaps. There is the obvious discrepancy between the pose and the reflection which should invite attention. I remember noticing the odd symbology of the British pound note thirty years ago, and wondering that nobody else in my circle seemed to have noticed it. And if the figure above the surface is supposed to be a youngster with a mop of hair, it is very poorly modeled. A gray in a hoodie?

The gray looks as though he's reaching to touch the boys hand...
A precursor to disclosure or first contact? verrrry strange....

Rower's reflection in the water is not even a group of random irregular shapes, it is Alien! Which was designed and intentionally added.

I looked into this one. The real image is of a boy, not a grey alien. Here is the image.

Interesting ... The "reflection" is clearly another image altogether -- very obvious - even the vessel is not the same between image and reflection. What I do see is an "alien" that appears to be reaching out to touch the hand of the human who id you remove the "paddle" appears to be doing the same.
The effect on the subconscious would likely be to implement better feelings between aliens and humans - perhaps the opposite of what the media and other faculties are doing (spreading fear of aliens). Also very interesting.
And it is very clear the the reflection is a separate image and not the "reflection"
Good find! Very interesting ...

The image you posted here looks much more like a boy than an alien ... I wonder why the difference? I may have to stroll down to the coin shop and take a look for myself ..

Thank you. :)
Canoe helmets have holes in them (in case the paddler falls in... the water needs to be able to find its way out).
