Belief in logic and the logic in belief.
What I'm about to write relates to any subject, but here I am relating it to spiritual teachings.
When we relate to a teaching or a text, 75% is clearly understandable, 20% is inference and 5% is hidden.
The 75% is information. The 20% is knowledge which has to be looked into. The 5% is wisdom that can only be seen through experience. Sometimes the 5% is called secret.
On a conventional level we believe in things because they concur with our own mindset.
Here, belief is to do with trust or faith. We have gone through the 95% of learning, and if it makes sense we have to be open to the possibilities in the 5%.
This is why the Buddha did not answer on certain matters. If one dives straight for the 5% without the 95% one could end up with a bright shiny ego, and no wisdom.
The result of wisdom is compassion.
There is nothing wrong with belief or logic: they are merely tools which work nicely together.
Another way to come at the 5% is through devotion, or one could call it deep appreciation.
In the 5% real magic can happen, because we go beyond.....convention.
It is a matter of looking into one's heart.
The heart cries with longing: that is compassion.
