Thanks ktlight, that was good entertainment.
Did reality TV cause such a dumb-down that that's considered useful? Someone must think reality show are useful, so I guess that answers the question.
My last impactful experience in the States before I came to Oz was in NYC the weeks following 9/11. I was among all these people having this massive experience and I was thinking, 'man, these guys really can come together.'
Out of disbelief thoughtfulness bordering on forgiveness was more dominant than fear and rage until the terrorist soundbite was invented. Then I was gone and Bush was re-elected and I've watched it spiral down since.
It's a feeling like watching your mom disappear into dementia.
If I were that undecided Gingrich or Ron Paul guy, I might have taken a punch at that dickhead.
Other than a few who were apparently afraid he'd try to humiliate them too, those people seemed fairly present. If the media can get that transparent and patronizing (moronic), people have got to be seeing through it.

Don't count on that, and work a little on your tendency to generalize. You offend people pointlessly doing that. Probably unintentionally.
Most of the sheep don't bother to vote. The ones who do, do so for some reason or another. The system encourages that apathy by denying them choices. There hasn't been a choice for a generation or so, so lets see what happens when a clear choice appears. That could take a moment.
Someone who grows up in a cell might not be able to acknowledge a moment when the door swings open.
