I tried a google search and ended up more confused than when I started.

Anyone familiar with natural healing have a suggestion for a natural remedy to be used as anti-inflammatory - particularly for sinuses?

Thanks!

The best all time cure for sinus issues is to use a Neti Pot,
there are also chemist versions of the same thing, here they are
marketed by FESS
you will never have a sinus issue again.
Google is your friend. :)

Chamomile would be best for sinus inflammation, mostly I assume is caused by allergies. That's a natural anti-histamine. Also Rosemary is useful for that, well and about a million other things. Also combining Yucca Root and Devils Claw (in horse world we call this BL Solution, it's the herbal form of IB Profen). Also Meadow Sweet is an amazing one, it's what the Bufferin is based on, because it doesn't upset stomachs while providing great anti-inflammation. So does Lavender.

Also, Iodine makes for a good expectorant - great for helping with sinus clearing/drainage (if you are congested). My favorite for infection is Oil of Oregano - fantastic stuff! You can do a hot lemonade (fresh squeezed lemon, cayenne, turmeric, oil of oregano - very soup like when it's hot).

My old neigbour when I was a child would have us boiled birch bark and drink the water. Not tasty but efficient. It would have vitamine C (to avoid scurby) and mostly the same product you find in aspirin (acetyl salsilic acid I think it is called).

Forgot to say: she was American Indian.

ginger is fast if you take a bite of ginger root and start chewing - it might throw you back on the couch though and most people want to be more gentle with themselves. Other than that cayenne pills.

my father in-laws drinks cherry juice. Can be hard on the stomach but it works better than ibuprofen. He's been doing it for over 10 years now!

Oil of oregano is a miracle drug. I take huge quantities of it, as I have chronic fatigue immune dysfunction syndrome, and a screwed up immune system. Interestingly, apart from all its anti-microbial activity, it also helps psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, which I developed recently. When I cut back on the oil of oregano, I have to take tons of ibuprofen just to walk around, but if I take lots of oil of oregano, it calms way down. Miracle drug.

Definitely a +1 on the NETI POT and MOST definitely a +2 on Oil of Oregano - these are the strongest suggestions (literally)...

Do both, just dont put the Oil of Oregano in the Neti Pot unless you want to reach new notes screaming your brains out hehehehee...

My added suggestion: Perform a steam treatment - this works WONDERS.

Get a medium sized bowl, fill it with very hot water. Put a couple drops of Oil of Oregano in it, and proceed by covering both your head and bowl with a large towel. Make sure your face is over the bowl evenly. Steam for about 5 minutes, taking very deep gentle breaths through your nose. Not only will this clear your nose (and disinfect, soothe, etc) - it will also make your skin lovely ;) Two birds with one stone....

Afterwards you can do the Neti Pot, the steam will have opened up your sinuses which will make the irrigation much easier. Some people find it very hard to get water through their cavity without forcing or snorting (which I dont recommend because it just adds stress and irritation).

Only a word of caution about the Neti pot. In southern Louisiana recently several people have died because of ameobic infection caused by using local tap water. I suggest maybe using distilled water or natural spring water.

Hi all,

I have sinus problems too, I currently have a sinus infection which is very annoying as I am finding it hard to breathe!!

Has anybody heard of Hopi Ear treatment? I have been told that it is very effective in clearing the sinuses?

Also don't use GOOGLE use http://www.ecosia.org/ every search helps save the rainforest :)

Often, people with sinus problems develop chest congestion as well. I have a nebulizer which I use colloidal silver in when a breathing problem arises. There are some newer models to make your colloidal silver, it's quite expensive to buy it. You want the smallest particles possible.

In chinese medicine ginger is considered a dry heat as opposed to a moist heat like garlic. So slice the ginger root and steep it like a tea so it is not so intense. It will help dry up the excessive moisture in the nasal passage ways and lungs.

Yes, this is if not the most important comment!! No tap water for the steam treatment OR the neti pot. Always fresh water, distilled, spring, etc.

Would you agree, that by boiling the tap water before using it(& perhaps cooling?) it will serve same purpose as distilled water?

G.A.,

Reading the posts here, you seem to have a lot of good & helpful info.

I see your dilema in chosing.

Perhaps try one at a time, Oregano?

+ to add to your dilema(lol) here is another.'Kalonji' seeds

Ground down, & mixed with a little olive oil, insert in nostrils.

Can also be rubbed onto chest if mixed with a little vinegar.

I loved the quote on the site: "Phrophet Mohamed stated that they cure everything execept 'sam'. When asked what 'sam was', he replied, sam is death!"

p.s. bought a 300g packet last week. (very cheap- £2)
Been taking a half spoon daily, with honey, for joint pain easing.

Tried some ground up with olive oil earlier in nostrils, for a little sinus prob. (+ some with vinegar rubbed on me chest--I'm not socialiseg tonight, so no probs!!..lol)
Seems to have worked.

P.S. Memory must be going!, must not forget the 'Good old standby',.OLBAS OIL!!

Rubbed into chest, & inhaled, & a little placed up each nostril.

Altho boiling water can remove most microorganisms, I have come to discover it doesn't always remove them entirely. It will kill most un-encysted bacteria, and reduce (but not eliminate) the amount of chlorine.

I would use discernment based on where you live, some tap water sources are more safe than others. If your tap water contains chlorine (where I live they pump it full of it) do not use it for the methods discussed.

If you aren't sure - its best to just be safe because you are putting this water through your sinuses and breathing in steam - so use a trusted source of spring water, reverse osmosis, etc.

Hi there!

I use essential oils and I never need to go to the pharmacy much!
For sinuses, I use Ravintsara oil (cinnamomum camphora), I'm giving the latin name, so you don't get mixed up with another essential oil called ravensara!
Put a drop or two on a teaspoon of honey, or on a sugar cube, for internal use. You can also rub a drop on your temples.
The great thing about essential oils, is that you buy a little bottle and it lasts for a long time!
Hope this helps!

Hi all

Oil of Oregano is one of the most precious natural anti-biotic we have!!!

i work in the health food industry...work with great licensed homeopathic/naturopathic/herbalists closely...

a friendly warning to everyone out there: BE CAREFUL WITH ESSENTIAL OILS (Oil of Oregano is one of the most potent ones)!!!

the reason is they are heavy on the liver and kidneys...

what i do (under strict guidance of my gurus) is 1 - 3 drops max the first day i notice health symptoms...casually 1 drop/week before seasonal occurrences, in fall, spring)

1 drop - NO MORE - per child, only when necessary!!!

and for the next 2 weeks, increase the pro-biotic dose, recovering the intestine flora is crucial...drink greens to re-balance any possible liver intoxication...

please easy on your LIVERS...not a laughing matter...

sad news from Ontario!!!

Oil of Oregano is ruled out...stores can only sell the current stock, no new orders!!!

that's how potent it is, the evil pharma corrupted the ministry of health (death) to put this excellent product out!!!

i bought reserves;

also my expert friends, told me this barrier will be relatively easy to overcome by infusing it with other stuff, i.e. oil of oregano formulas, with vit/c vit/d etc...

anyways, again, cherish it but please don't abuse it

sincerely

cheers

Boswellia is a natural anti-inflamitory. As is avoiding omega 6 rich foods. Dairy product create a lot of mucoid issues maybe worth minimising them..

With regards one of the best things I have found for clearing out the nasal cavities check out my own best medicine thread on here.
