In my personal opinion we are not alone in the Universe. We are being visited by advanced beings. There are sightings every day. So what do they want? If they are hostile why haven't they got it over with? If they are here to help, then why havn't they? and where do we fit in?

I have not really been much into the ET aspect of things. I do read and listen to what others have to say about them, but that is about as far as I go with it. Maybe because myself, I have never seen an ET, never really seen proof of one other than the lanticular cloud formations, but that doesn't tell me much either. I do believe they exist, but I don't put much of my energy towards them.
BUT...say they are close by, you ask "If they are here to help, then why havn't they?"

What makes you think they haven't helped?

Try to drop the we and they thinking and you might find a better answer

To know what they want my friend you could start by watching some Project Camelot interviews on this subject because the answer doesn't fit (length) in thread I guess;)

Not only because it's so complicated but also because there are so many different ones of them -> of which most want/do/try/offer/take different things.

bless

EDIT:

Maybe it does fit here: Some want us enslaved, some want nothing and just observe, some want us to evolve, some want our planet to remain intact, some come in peace, some come with war, some look for resources, some look for knowledge, some want to give a hand, some want to play with us

Most of them (I hope) want to get us on the spaceride of the search of truth and the meaning and purpose of life once we're ready.

My most treasured possession is a book called Close Encounters Of The Fourth Kind by C. D. B. Bryan and centres around the abduction experience. It also covers a conference held at M.I.T but not endorsed by them.

Our biology seems to be important to them (ET) or more importantly our gene pool !
They (ET) seem to share some humanoid quality which I believe is no coincerdence.

Good summary. (Note that some may also want resources, including biological material.)

A good analogy is the traditional Northern hemisphere attitude to developing countries. What are the different motivations?

(no specific order)

To establish strategic military bases
To enslave the people (which has happened a lot in the past)
To infiltrate local political systems to leverage strategic control (a more subtle form of enslavement)
To introduce education (purely altruistically)
To eradicate disease and poverty
To acquire, safeguard or control natural resources (including medicinal plants and herbs)
To safeguard threatened wildlife and natural resources
To integrate other cultures into our own (a side-effect of education - not necessarily a good thing)
To protect existing colonies or investments
Sociological, cultural, historical and archaeological research.

As below, so above. Maybe different groups of ETs are doing all of the above (and probably more) - each with a different motivation or agenda:

some self-serving (some of which are downright evil)
some benevolent (some of which are intervening very subtly and with great intelligence and wisdom)
some purely neutral.

Great thread. Bill has so many answers and they are all right as I'm not sure there are no wrong answers to this question. May want to ask yourself, what do I want from the ET's? In place of, what do they want from us? I sense they are attempting to awaken that part of us that we have forgotten about. Sort of like a wake up call to assume our rightful position within the Universe/ Multiverse. Just a thought....

The following is only a hypothetical.

Lets say that there are some out the that want to "eat" us (interpret that as you will), maybe they only like their steak (insert own word here) cooked well done, and they have a large party to feed. At this point in time there are only a few 'well done' steaks, so they wait for us to cook a little longer, perhaps even sending their own chefs to help prepare the feast.

Regarding their [benevolent service-to-others] assistance; a wise teacher will let the student learn to fall and get up on their own with gentle guidance. In this way the student becomes much stronger and more advanced rather than becoming dependent on assistance from without.

I think that some of their agendas " We " would be stressed to even understand!

First let me say that I agree with nearly everything posted so far... As with a lot of discussions I have a 'flip' side of understanding things.

ET is another US! We are all on a progressive path of evolution in the universe, and ET is no different than our own human race. We are all part of the collective universal consciousness and low vibrational entities tend to create havoc causing 'ripples' in the collective consciousness. Lower vibrational beings tend to be manipulative, competitive, controlling, selfish, fearful, live in the material world of wealth and status, and have many physical problems until they learn to grow spiritually. Higher vibrational beings understand that personal spiritual growth (letting go of the control and fear issues) is better for the universe. Many high vibrational beings work hard to help the lower vibrational beings, while many lower vibrational beings also work hard to keep individuals from realizing their spiritual potential.

What does ET want? The answer is it depends on who ET is. We can understand more about ET by looking to ourselves first.

Great post, Bill! i esp like 'some of which are intervening very subtly and with great intelligence and wisdom'

here's a suggested addition to your list: like the movies in 'Soylent Green' of an Earth teeming w/all forms of life that the old man was allowed to watch because he chose suicide -- maybe some ETs are here to kind of record in their heads/brain computers all the good & beautiful things here on Earth to keep them alive somewhere in case all is destroyed --

including all the beautiful & good things about humans -- like music & dancing [it's hard to imagine a reptilian or a tall white getting out on the dance floor & shaking their booty]
