View Full Version : Campaigners voice vitamin D fears (BBC News)

I thought it was interesting to see this (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-16439478) article on the BBC News (Health) website. Although concise, it echoes a great deal of what Gabriele Stähler (http://staehler-forum.com/) talked about in her interview with Bill.
I do feel there is something to this, whether it being the Sun or perhaps lifestyle changes. However, it is rather difficult and a little confusing to know where to get reliable and safe information. It's one thing testing something on yourself, but another on your children and loved ones.
It would be more reassuring if your local GP was more informed in these matters. I raised it once, only to be met with that look. I feel I shall have to raise it again, although I understand that there are different types of tests you can have done, with one in particular which is the more accurate.
It would be interesting to learn of other people's experiences and whether you felt the information you received was medically solid.
Thanks.

hi jasontorque,
we have used vitaminD for a year, I take 6000iu a day and more - up to 20000iu if I am chasing a cold
there is plenty on youtube on the matter, apparently you cant overdose.
we have given it to the kids as well @600iu but should do more regularly in winter...
you can get it from 'Boots' in the UK, we checked with the pharmacist there and it is vitaminD3 (the most effective) even it only says vitaminD on the tub.
my expierience with GPs is that they dont know anything about things like vitD and 'colloidal silver' which is the other thing we take for bacterial/viral infections.

VitD3 is crucial to add to northerners' daily regime. Don't use the prescribed pharma stuff. It's synthetic VitD and does nothing. Boots' over the counter is fine. There is no danger and we too use abt 10,000 units for colds.
Also in the British news about the rise in rickets recently was the added info about use of high potency skinblocks which completely block out the sun's lifegiving VitD3 rays etc. So avoid skinblock - it's just a moneymaker anyways- and be sensible about sun exposure.

Please go to www.DrMercola.com. It is a website by a ground breaking MD in the US that has a load of info about Vitamin D and how to take it. He recommends that you only take vit D3.

that's exactly what we do in our house......we make our own colloidal silver too as its much cheaper......we never get sick. Dr Mercola's website has a lot of good information about Vitamin D and tests you could ask for. If you ask at the pharmacy or the health food store they still might tell you much lower doses than mentioned in the interview with Bill.....we have never had any problems and have been doing this for about 2 years now.

We take 10,000 to 20,000 units daily. When (seldom) sick we take upwards of 100,000 for a few days, along with 25,000 units of vitamin A. Add 5 or 6 grams of C and you've got a real cold killer!
It's very, very hard to OD on vitamin D. Just 15 minutes in the sun makes the body generate around 20,000 units. Don't wash your skin for a while after sun bathing. You'll stop the conversion process.

Good Info!
When I first started seeing my endocrinologist I was working outdoors and had no issues whatsoever with Vit D. However, I started an office job in 2006, and my VitD levels gradually diminished to the point, about 1 year ago, where he recommended taking supplements. As is noted elsewhere, just a bit of sunlight produces good VitD production. So, spring, summer and fall isn't a problem, but the winter can be devastating to VitD levels. This is particularly true for people with dark skin - they have this coloration to protect themselves naturally from long-term sun exposure, so people with darker skin need even More sun exposure, to produce adequate VitD.

I started taking vit D3 in conjuction with Echinasea after hearing Henry Deacon recommend D3 a few years ago to prevent flu
during the Bird flu scare....
I work outside and usually get a cold at least once a year which always goes onto my chest and develops into a irratating cough..
Since taking them i have not had a cold or cough..I have had the makings of a cold several times and each time I upped the dose
of echinasea......I have no set doses at the momment I take 2 D3 tablets and 3 capsules of echinasea a day....in the summer I
stopped altogether as I work outside but if I felt a tickle in the throat I would have some....
When i have had the cold symtoms I upped the echinasia dose and one occasion when I thought this is it ...I had 3 in the morning
3 luchtime 3 teatime 3 evening and 3 before i went to bed and probably 9 capsules the next day and the symptoms went !!
That was the most, but I have upped the dose on other occassions and it has worked.....Whether this is the placebo working or
not I don't know ?...What I do know it has worked for me so far !!!!
The sun over here is seldom direct sunlight, there is usually cloud cover so even though I work outside I will carry on taking D3
for the forseeable future...
I should add before this I never took any supplements......Steve

My personal motto is that if the "authorities" tell you its bad for you, you most likely need it.

Hi there,
Just curious how you go about making your own colloidial silver, if you don't mind sharing?
I pay $50/500ml for it from Purest Colloids in the USA. It's not cheap, but it's certainly less expensive and safer than going to doctors.
Also, how can you be sure you're not making Ionic Silver instead of Colloidial Silver? I understand there's quite a difference in atomic particle sizes.
Cheers,

I'd like to add that ANYTHING that's healthy and natural for us is banned or made illegal by big pharma. AND they seem to forget that decisions to use these and other natural things are OUR decisions. NOT THEIRS!

D3 is also the best way to beat the blues , especially over winter.
