SDO
23rd January 2012, 17:40
A geoeffective solar storm is in progress associated with the M8.7 solar flare, seen in the SDO video, that peaked around 4:00 UT on 23 Jan 2012. According to the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC), this is the strongest radiation storm since May, 2005, and most likely will have a geomagnetic storm that will peak on Tuesday. A model of the associated storm front from the Community Coordinated Model Center (CCMC) can be seen here CCMC Storm Forecast (http://iswa.ccmc.gsfc.nasa.gov:8080/IswaSystemWebApp/StreamArgumentServlet?cygnetInstanceId=1377178811&argumentId=1)
