Hi folks

I am currenlty looking through this document

A Consultation on Reforming Police and Fire and Rescue Services in Scotland (http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2011/09/15110325/0)

and found section where they are talking about changing the oath of the constables

1.11. The oath made by officers on appointment has remained unchanged since 1892. It has stood the test of time well but in recognition of the changing role of both the police service and individual officers we would welcome views on whether we should take this opportunity to amend the oath to reflect those changes.

1.12. The wording of the current oath is:

"I hereby do solemnly and sincerely and truly declare and affirm that I will faithfully discharge the duties of the office of constable".

Scottish Government Proposals

Duties on holders of the Office of Constable

1.13. We will retain all of the duties placed on police constables under the 1967 Act in the reform legislation, but we will restate and reframe them using more modern language.

Oath

1.14. We propose to update the wording of the oath. A possible new wording might be:

"I sincerely declare and affirm that I will faithfully discharge the duties of the office of constable with fairness, integrity, diligence and impartiality, according to law."

Question 2: What are your views on our plans to retain existing functions in a modern form and on our proposals to modernise the oath?

To me "modernise" is a dirty word in this context. My experience with modernisation has been cuts, lies, BS, wasting public money, diversity brainwashing, missmanagement, common purpose etc etc...

Maybe its nothing but I was wondering what any of our legal experts and freemen thought about this?

"fairness, integrity, diligence and impartiality, according to law."

Unfortunately this is an oxymoron.

sounds like an improvement to me. It would be nice to be able to say, Fair Cop again. impartiality may help them get over being racist scum. a bit of diligence and integrity goes a long way if presented correctly.

I say go for it Alex :cheer2: Scotland has the chance to be an example at this time.

peace

I am Scottish, so i cant see the spelling mistake :p

I suppose they could have worded it differently so that the locals could understand.

For example, I will stop being a selfish corrupt bullying racist and begin to assist my brothers and sisters of Scotland.

But i think it means the same thing

Refer to David Wyn-Miller on sentence construction.
The last WORD in any sentence is that which is defined; purpose, scope, genre, etc. of the of all that precedes it.
The current oath defines the role of CONSTABLE
The new oath defines LAW
So LAW is that which is defined and all that precedes the word LAW defines its actuary (enforcer).
Therefore the Scottish Police Force will therefore become, officially and legally, State Controlled Stormtroopers.

Do you not remember Bill Clinton bamboozling the Senate Commitee by asking them to define what the definition of "is" is?
That was with the advice and schooling of three time PhD litigator and King of Hawaii, David Wyn Miller.

The change must not be implemented. Say NO to this change.
