Given all the sturm und drang raised lately here about 2012 shiftiness, non-trips to Neptune, Illuminati schemes, GLF channels, and so forth, it might be useful to share a meditation technique I was taught 4 decades ago that still works wonders on the old psyche.

While studying as a monk in a Zen Buddhist Monastery in the early 70's, the Master (Joshu Sasaki Roshi), noticed that I was a feeling a bit glum, particularly after realizing that all my previous ideas about life and spirituality were basically rubbish. He proceeded to teach me what he called the "best meditation".

Upon awakening in the morning (or any old time), he instructed me to go to the nearest window, open it, place both hands on my hips, lean back, and then laugh out loud for as long as I could. The ideal amount of time spent laughing would be about 10 minutes, but one needs to work up to that level of joy and humor.

Initially, I thought that was a novel idea, but what would it accomplish? Well, was I surprised when I tried it, and you might be too! Really, it has turned out to be the best meditation, and so I offer it to your now, for your own enjoyment.

I may give that a go out of the one and only window i can reach in my house which is the kitchen window, i suppose it makes you realise just how silly life really is if you take it all too seriously, i know ive felt like that a few times, as im too serious for my own good at times, my bf helps me with this, as he lightens everything up, hes too laid back to say the least, im too much of a perfectionist A type personality, so we both meet in the middle & it makes for a great relationship, opposites attract as they say. When im being too serious about something, he teaches me to let go more, when he let goes too much to the point of 'not caring at all' i bring him back a bit. Perfect YIN/YANG Duality we are lol or at least i like to think so ha ha!!! x

Will try, very soon.

P.S. I've thought your posts overall have been very astute - now I know why!

You people are falling for this? It's an evil, dastardly conspiracy I tell you. What's the first thing your neighbor's going to think when you do this? Another bob's trying to get us all thrown into the loony bin. Nay, nay, my friends. I beg of thee, don't do this. Instead, let us all open our windows and sing a chorus of "Alice's Restaurant". :sing:

So... the other morning I wanted to give this type of meditation a go. I was lying in bed, I thought, 'giggle and laugh here? Why not?' So I didn't go to the window, I was at the window of my mind. I giggled, startled my self, then giggled some more and laughed. It felt wonderful to wake that way. Well the dog came running into the room upon hearing me, acting as if he needed to leave in a hurry. So I left my 'happy' place and strolled into the kitchen toward the back door to let the dog out so he could find his 'happy' place. On my way I was almost tripped by the first cat who is about 15 years old wanting her soft morning breakfast, a few feet more the other cat of 8 years wound around my feet like the infinity symbol to be sure I knew to pick her up; mean while the dog is running and stopping in front of me causing me to almost fall over on him several times over. I made it safely to the door. I opened the thing up, the cats ran away from me, the dog ran outside, I was then blasted with (not kidding here) sub 0 temperature (it was -6 degrees). I forgot to laugh once I opened the door, ran back to my bed and smiled under the covers.

I will try again. I suppose being prepared helps too? Next time, I will be armed with cat food, a spray bottle, and an eskimo suit. I don't know who would laugh more, me or my animals inside watching me laugh outside! LOL

Hello Taizen!

Often my mate will join me in laughter, and then our black lab Amos will rouse himself from his nap, "yeow" with a big grin, and procede to rub himself back and forth against his favorite wall in delight. Then he'll flop himself down on his back like Snoopy and squirm and wriggle in pure joy.
This will make us very happy, and we laugh even more, then he'll go runing over to his food bowl, since he associates food with happiness (being a critter and all).

It's great to hear you're giving the method a go -- it is wonderful to wake up that way, and sets a great tone for the rest of the day!
