Trouble Remembering Dreams

I'm having real trouble remembering my dreams lately and I was wondering if anyone knew of anything that could help or the reasons behind it. I dream most nights these are often lucid dreams and when I wake I can get back to sleep and carry on with the same dream. The trouble is lately I have been waking up and have been completely unable to process my dreams as I forget all but snippets of them almost immediately I have a dream diary but have not written in it for months because although it is right next to my bed I have forgotten the dream by the time I have picked up the pen.

This is getting very frustrating as I feel I may be missing some important elements
any help would be gratefully received
