Hey everybody!
This is something we all should be aware of so that we can stop it dead in its tracks. Just when you think you've heard it all, along comes something like this....sheesh!

In Orange County, California, it is illegal to hold regular
meetings in your home.

It is considered illegal to hold "a regular gathering of more than
three people" on private property.

That's right, on your own private property.

Now, the story that reveals this is over "home bible studies", a
brazen violation of the First Amendment, which guarantees free
worship without government intervention.

However, it would seem that this would also apply to book clubs, or
theater groups, or any other type of regular meeting that 'free'
people might want to hold in their own homes.

Most familys are more than three people.

Which wuckfit came up with that law? If it is even real? Can someone find the link with the text of the actual law ?

update...

Ok - its a city ordinance vioation. Not quite the same thing, but still not really that helpful.

Also this is CA, so the topic title (now in google) is a little broad in scope.

I changed the thread title from "Illegal in America" to "Illegal in Orange County, California"

From the article, this pertained to a "religious" meeting violating some ordinance requiring churches or places of regular group worship to get a Conditional Use Permit in residential areas. I couldn't figure out an easy way to get all those additional limitations into the title ... but saying "Gathering on Private Property is Illegal" is overly broad as well.

Thanks Paul! It makes sense to word the title like that. I copied it from my email as is.... My sole purpose was to pass it along and see if anyone else had this happening in their states/counties. Guess I should have just said that instead....

This conflict will not hold in a court of law. Looks like OC commissioners need some residents to start recalling them for passing such an ordinance. IMHO

That is not how I read it. I read that it was illegal to have religious services in a residential area without the right sort of permit.

Hi Paul,

There is also another point in the video stating then it is illegal to have on a regular basis a gathering of more than 3 people in a home. If that would be the case, that is a #$%*( law. Even a small group of let's say 6 folks doing bible study is an odd law. Let's just hope this is not true.

Take care dear friends!

There was an arrest a couple of years ago that was politically tinged--a fund raising party. The charges were eventually dropped but no one contested the law. Orange County is a strange place. It has been thru bankruptcy because of gambling with tax payer money rather than funding its obligations. In for a penny, in for a pound. I think they did right laws to change that. Mostly the 1% who studies show consider lying and cheating just STOP.

one realy has to wonder how/who the morons were that origional put in/suggested these laws and regulations.

Over in aus - Busking is illigeal unless you have a permit. The permit costs more than you would ever make from busking on the streets, so whats the point of it?

I thought Busking was a means of making money when you had nothing but were willing to try anything to make some cash. Not do it beacuse its something you enjoy so much you'd pay to be able to do it for others entertainment/benefit alone.

Also similar to how it's been illigeal for a while now to fly a kite on a public beach. it might fall down and hit someone in the eye you know.

and how there's so much fuss about children drowning and having you're pool fence up to "standards" (which change every year, often requiring you to get a whole new fence because the speficiations change so much) so much so that they will use google maps to hunt people down to fine. Yet the other approach... the one that makes much more sense..... to ensure all children while in their very 1st years of school are taught to swim as part of the cirriculum.

Now that ive got my rant out of the way - if you dig deeper you may find that alot of those laws are invalid.

Like, everything "Brisbane City Council" does, is invalid. There's something very clear in the Aus constitution that says counicls cannot pass/make law's, thats up for central govt only - yet you have councils saying you will pay these parking fines, you will pay this fine, you'll pay a fine because you're pool fence doesnt meet our standards. Yet if you do enough digging, you'll find that since Council has been forbidden/dissalowed from making any real enforcable laws... the only reason they get away with hitting you with a parking fine is becuase you agree to pay it yourself, mind you the harasment they start if you dare challenge them would be enough to have people thrown in jail if it was two random people doing it - but since they're council the harasment goes unchecked, and many people back out of their origional "stick it to them" attitude, even tho they know whtas being done to them is wrong.
