Twisted radio waves offer infinite Wifi capacity
A new twist on radio waves could massively boost the capacity of Wifi and other wireless networks.

A team of scientists demonstrated the technique in Venice by beaming signals across the lagoon.
They exploited a property of radio waves called "orbital angular momentum" to send two signals on the same frequency. They gave the two signals different amounts of orbital angular momentum to differentiate them.
According to the scientists, their technique in principle allows an infinite number of channels, potentially solving congestion problems in the electromagnetic spectrum.
The scientists said they mounted their public demonstration to allay doubts their technique was possible.
It's exactly the same place that Galileo first demonstrated his telescope to the authorities in Venice, 400 years ago," Professor Bo Thide of the Swedish Institute of Space Physics told the BBC.

The team first proposed the idea in theory in 2007.
"They were not convinced at all; they could see the moons of Jupiter but they said, 'They must be inside the telescope, it can't possibly be like that'," said Prof Thide.
"To some extent we have felt the same (disbelief from the community), so we said, 'Let's do it, let's demonstrate it for the public.'"
To create wave with different orbital angular momentum, the scientists split normal standard satellite dish-shaped transmitter along its radius and separated the two edges to create a corkscrew and twist the two signals different amounts.
Their research is described in the New journal of physics http://iopscience.iop.org/1367-2630/14/3/033001/article

The quickening will also affect the way communication is achieved in your reality on every level. You will sense more and more and need less and less speech to convey meaning. Your technologies which assist you in communications are also undergoing changes of their own. Another break through technology will be announced shortly that will affect the way radio waves are communicated around the globe.

AWESOME!

Here is a video of the findings .. http://bcove.me/nz28d1ph
apparently this was attended in June, 2011 by about two thousand people & international press!

This novel radio technique allows the implementation of, in principle, an infinite number of channels in a given, fixed bandwidth, even without using polarization, multiport or dense coding techniques. This paves the way for innovative techniques in radio science and entirely new paradigms in radio communication

I think it's a good idea to keep an eye on the open access New Journal of Physics ;)

Here is another link. http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/120803-vortex-radio-waves-could-boost-wireless-capacity-infinitely

Hopefully this will not get silenced as the implications seem to be dounting.

Now -- think of this --
It occurred to me while listening to the above video that ... MAYBE ... there is potential in
combining this NEW frontier of INFINITE number of channels per bandwidth -and- the below technology???

That might be a bit hard to do now that the New Journal of Physics apparently published all the details (^__~ ) I bet there will be loads of people taking it from there.

This should mean we can move away from the frequency bands that have been shown to cause cancer and other nasty health effects.

This might be worse. Far worse. We have no idea as of yet.

Recall that DNA is twisted AND superconductive. AND acts as a radio receiver, at the very least.

This is possibly...very bad news..if looked at with a long set of eyes that cascade into futures and potentials.

basically, if we thought that microwaves were bad for breaking DNA and leading to cancers...(besides other things), what about a waveform and shape/polarization...that goes down the exact same road as DNA's constructional aspects, it's communicative aspects, and it's frequency/vibration aspects? this could end up being waveforms that Program DNA.

But in this case, like a gun fired into a live chicken with no idea what the results are, or that a gun even exists ...and that it is being fired at the chicken. Ultimate levels of blind ignorance.

Good in one way, very bad in another. All coins have two sides.

Hey Fundy,

Unfortunately John's invention is not efficient yet, but you probably knew that:
...
Kanzius admitted that this process could not be considered an energy source, as more energy is used to produce the RF signal than can be obtained from the burning gas and stated in July 2007 that he never claimed his discovery would replace oil...

Carmody,

I hope you are wrong, but I fear you might have hit it on the head. :(

That doesn't seem to be the point here - it should be applicable to any frequency bandwidth which is used for wireless transmissions.
