Wikileaks founder Julian Assange to run for Australian Senate

Talk about putting the cat among the pigeons! I love it. Vote for Julian!

I first read this story on page 3 of Melbourne's Sunday Herald Sun newspaper, 18 March 2012. Interestingly, it was NOT published on the Herald Sun website. I found the story "hidden" on an affilliate Murdoch media website. Hmmm, curious.

JULIAN Assange's WikiLeaks organisation has announced plans for the former computer hacker to run for the Australian Senate.

http://resources3.news.com.au/images/2010/12/26/1225976/443107-julian-assange.jpg

Despite his continuing detention under house arrest in England over sexual assault allegations, his group's official Twitter account yesterday claimed legal advice suggested he was still eligible to run.

"We have discovered that it is possible for Julian Assange to run for the Australian Senate while detained. Julian has decided to run," WikiLeaks said.

WikiLeaks also confirmed it planned to run another candidate against Prime Minister Julia Gillard in the Victorian seat of Lalor.

An article posted on the WikiLeaks website predicted that, if successful, "ASIO would have a collective heart attack".

"Having Julian Assange elected to the Senate would give him advantages, at the least, the embarrassment of the Australian Government having to communicate to whatever authority in Sweden - or the US as the case may be - about 'Senator Assange'," it stated. Assange, born in Townsville, is best known for establishing the WikiLeaks website, which publishes information from whistleblowers, whether or not it is classified material.

It has been reported that US prosecutors drew up secret charges against Assange about a year ago and he is still waiting on a Supreme Court decision in the UK on his appeal against extradition to Sweden.

A bold move, pure genius IMO.
I like the way Assange thinks.
If he's successful, it would be DISASTROUS for TPTB here in Oz (and abroad).
Bring on Senator Assange!

Indeed, and the MSM smear campaign against Assange will no doubt be horrendous.
Still though, if he manages to get in somehow it will be very interesting to say the least.

Detention in the UK and running for the Australian Senate while detained. hmm....
Its mad, it's bad,[that means good] The rabbit out of the hat trick, it is one big pantomime.
I could run for Senate, better still a kangaroo as I have never been to Australian, and in all seriousness kangaroos are better placed, knowing the lay of the land far better than I, with a good perspective on the indigenous people and the whole eco system. Full of vitality, quick to hop into action, no slouch, only sea-esters on very hot days.

Assange for public office, eh? Very interesting, but not too surprising considering his clandestine supporters. I will only reiterate what I have said in other places, things are not what they appear to be with him. I will say no more. Like Kony and other things, nothing stays hidden very long these days. This (Assange running for senate) seems to bring some people joy. Joy is a good thing and being a buzzkill is not.

BTW, I voted for Obama. Probably the last vote I cast until a lot of people are sitting in prisons. If Ron Paul is actually available to vote for in the national election later this year, I will vote for him. It would be a symbolic act most likely. One never knows though. Wouldn't want cynicism to prevent a possible breakthrough.

I just can't agree with your sceptism on Assange, Modwiz

I am also dissapointed that he bailed out on 911 Truth, has barely touched the surface with UFO Disclosure & I'm not sure of his stance on the Global Warming LIE..?

My only real concern is his Left-Wing supporters i.e. Greens Leader Bob Brown, his Lawyer Geoffrey Robertson QC

Firm: Doughty Street Chambers

Niche: Robertson, like Robinson, is also a Rhodes Scholar and an Australian. “In 2008 the UN Secretary General appointed him as one of the three distinguished jurist members of the UN’s Internal Justice Council,”according to GeoffreyRobertson.com, online home of GeoffreyRobertson.

Yes, there are many hidden descrepencies in the Assange backstory, but I'm still not convinced he's working for the other side...

Having said all that, I would welcome him running for a position in the Australian Senate and have a Wikileaks candidate running against our Fabian Socialist PM JuLIAR Gillard in her seat of Lalor (Victoria) and it would definately shake up the Senate & Australian Politics if both were elected.

Hi modwiz,

If you don't mind indulging me, I'd actually be very interested to hear your POV regarding Assange.
I know there are some who believe he is an agent for the "TPTB" i.e. the elites, the banks, the mega-corporations, the alphabet agencies etc.
However, I personally fail to see the logic behind that POV.
That said, if I'm missing an important piece of the puzzle and you can enlighten me I would be most grateful for that.
And, I promise I won't take offense to anything you write in response to this (if you even choose to do so) ;)
Just to be clear, the issues I have with the "Assange is an agent of TPTB" perspective are as follows:

1. Through his actions, Assange has (in my mind at least) clearly made himself a target/enemy of those I consider to be part of TPTB.
2. In response to his actions towards them, TPTB have been calling for him to be incarcerated for life, and some are even calling for him to be executed.
3. TPTB-owned MSM have portrayed him as a terrorist, a threat to (inter)national security (yet I just don't see it).

So, if Assange is in collusion with TPTB:

Why do they appear to be so fearful of him?
Why do they appear to be targeting him?
Why are they threatening to incarcerate him and/or execute him?
Why are their media outlets portraying him and his actions as a threat to security and stability?

I could be wrong, but the only people I see Assange threatening are those who have something to hide i.e. TPTB... those who have lied/deceived/manipulated for their own benefit and believe they've gotten away with it.

Anyhow, the way I see it I'm either right about Assange being "one of the the good guys".
Or, r I'm missing some very important puzzle pieces.
I respect your opinion modwiz, so I'm curious to understand where you're coming from on the Asange front....

I an not being coy, but making the points about him feels like homework. Gordon Duff has done a very good job of showing him for what he is. I do not just follow Gordon, but once you see where the holes are it is easy to see the fluff and distractions.
Briefly to your questions:
1. Appearances can be deceptive and by deception his employers do war.
2.To make #1 look real. Talk is cheap, the man looks rested and now he might run for office. Please!
3. More threats, and talk is cheap. Again, he was wearing nice shoes, look very at ease at the Sratfor 'bust'. Again, please!
4. The media outlets are all shills and sociopathic liars who publish his stuff that he gives them to be able to pick the ones they want. He is all smoke and mirrors. All of your questions are deceptions his employers build around him.
Besides 9/11. See any bad press about a really nasty outfit in the Middle East. Some call it a country but it has no defined borders so it can't be a country. You would think there might be just a tiny bit of dirt there. Not a speck, squeaky clean where there is abundant slime.
The head of Stratfor had nasty things to say about the Mossad and was getting in their way. Who got broken open?

Now, I rest my case. These are my reasons for my opinion. I do not expect you to adopt them. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Paul :cow: had posted a glossary of Stratfor's terms. That is where I got my info about his less than kind remarks about Israeli intelligence people.
