From http://darwins-god.blogspot.com/2012/03/theres-super-moon-coming-on-may-5.html, a brief explanation:
On May 5th the moon will pass through perigee (the closest point in its orbit to earth) within one minute of when it is a full moon. The moon can be more than 10% larger in the sky when at perigee so look for this "super moon" event to give a spectacular moon rise at dinner time.

One of the wacky things (as they say in the video) that's happening on May 5th, 2012 is that I will turn 65 years old! Luckily my only grandson was also born on May 5th, on my 60th birthday, so now it's HIS birthday and we can ignore me. I've never cared much about birthdays. At least on that day we'll have an excuse to be insane. We can blame our lunacy on the intensity of the full "super" moon.

Nancy-- Happy birthday to you and your grandson!

I am fascinated by how many grandparents and grandchildren share birthdays. I share mine with my granddaughter!

You can never ignore your birthday now!

I'm looking forward to seeing that moon! I remember seeing one once before- it looked HUGE!
