Born in British Guyana, Dr. John Virapen went from being a door-to-door conman to a pop star, to a pharmaceutical representative to executive director of one of the largest drug companies in the world. He admits to participating in bribery, false information and deception to help launch and market some of the most popularly prescribed (and most dangerous) drugs. In an effort to exorcise his demons and expose the tactics and dangers of the pharmaceutical industry.

Virapen states the he eventually became the executive director "of one of the largest and most evil companies in the world...Eli Lily and Company." He further added "I did a lot of bad things...people were dying from taking medication that was legalized because I had bribed the Swedish government."
He also articulately states:
"What is the pharma industry doing to us? They are the most powerful industry in the world....they sleep in the same bed with governments...they use corruption to get what they want...corruption involves money...they have lots and lots and lots of money and that is how they make their money. They also kill more people than the wars we have in the world. They're not interested in curing any disease you may have..they're more interested in making you get diseases."

I personally think this subject is one of the most important there is. Not just for the obvious reasons - of horrific betrayal of terms like 'health' and 'medicine' ... but for the pretty simple mental equation it presents to people.
These are massive corporations who are in the business of making money ...
A cured customer is an ex customer.
Get it, homo sapiens? Jesus, how stupid can people be?

It always comes back to money... MON EYE....
I used to be a die hard free market captalist, but money & "humans" just doesn't seem to mix very well, is there ever a case that money hasn't corrupted, perverted & distroyed people when it is consolidated in great amounts in the hands of a few people?

I am glad he comes from Eli Lilly, I hope they get taken down. This is my story with Eli Lilly
When I got kicked in the face by a horse and woke in the ER with no memory and no insurance they had me sign a hold harmless and leaving against advice and sent me home with someone. The details of that experience are not part of the discussion with Eli Lilly.
One of the side effects of closed head trauma which no one was much into studying until the Iraq war produced so many is that when I started crying I could not stop for long periods of time and the same with laughing. At this point, I qualify for medical and I am under a doctor's care so I don't get lock up for being crazy--another insane story of how society handles things. So they put me on Neurontin and Eli Lilly drug that was developed and solely researched for epilipsy. It was being given to me and many mental patients on top of other psychotropic drugs as a "mood stabalizer." It's other big off label uses still being done today is for neruopathy. Thus, prescribed by tons of podiatrists who know very little about the brain. What this drug does is suppress frontal lob activity which is very helpful for epileptics but no good for someone struggling to remember. As for neuropathy, a placebo might be just as effective. We don't know because there are no studies because Eli Lilly does not want them.
I know a lot of old people who will not take Lipitor because they are in touch with their bodies enough to feel the drug seriously messes with their brain. You could say the brain is collesterol and removing it from the blood stream is also removing it from the brain. Some people notice dizzyness right a way and their doctors keep urging them to take it because it is an expensive drug for which they are rewarded for prescribing. That is how much money Lilly makes on this.
How did I find out about this--in the business section of the LA Times reporting the 235 million dollar fine Lilly got for off label use of neurontin. But did they stop it? NO. For Lilly 235 million is just the cost of doing business with a billion dollar plus drug.
I weaned myself off neurontin and within six months my memory started to function much better. Eight years later, I am reasonably normal but two years on neurontin did me absolutly no good. If you are not smart enough to afford internet or learn how to research on it -- you can be very dead because in the system you are just a number for almost everyone concerned. Medicine was meant to heal only in the US is it a business industry.
