Because it will "cause premature unnecessary debate".

Something stood out to me about this article. It was the reader comments section. All the comments start out with outraged people, asking why the government would try to do such a thing, and referencing their ways as outdated, old, and relating the government's methods of witholding this information from the public as an Autocracy.
The comments section, before it was closed off, that is, the last post made me smile.
"The only people disturbed by this are ignorant of our legal framework or just determined to be upset about something. Comments such as those above are indicative of just the premature and unnecessary "debate" the AG's is concerned about."
Yes, we are determined to be upset over nothing, not because that the government is trying to hide things from us, and push them thru parliment without the public's knowledge, imput or say. An example of this is the Internet Filter.
Which makes you wonder....
Isnt this internet filter and snoopign thrugh your history achieving the same thign. Allowing them to watch you, to collect information, a profile on you. Hell, im allmost feeling confident enough to place a bet to say that if this proposed internet snoop goes aead, teh govt will promice all information will be safe/secret unless looked at by law enforcmenet..... you can bet they'll start selling it to advertising companies in no time for extra $$ on the side. Need revenue for the government! yo!
Others will say that you shuld have nothing to fear unless you are doing things against the law. True, but theres a twist to it. Take Movie/TV show piracy for example. its been proven, time and time again that people do it because it suits them. The ability to pick any show they want, watch it instantly, without Adds. This idea in itself is great, if a cable company were to pick this up, and not charge an arm and a leg for it i can guarentee piracy will start dropping drematicly. But they wont - the point here that im trying to get at is - they wont because of controll. They want you to comply with their buisness model, to follow their rules, to dance their dance. The real problem thatp people miss about the piracy problem, is that there is a magnitude of ideas, and things that can be put into play that will help drop piracy without punishing the paying consumer (Punishing the paying consumer example - in australia, if you PURCHASE a DVD, put it in your DVD player and hit play, you are FORCED, to sit thru sometimes up to 10 minutes worth of Anti-Piracy warnings and Adverts for other movies. It will not let you skip it. So a paying customer, is essentialy penalised for paying for the product by being forced to watch unwanted content before being able to watch the product they paid for.
Its not about the copyrights, its not about the money, its about controlling the masses. Coporations taking their stand, hand in hand with the government under the flag of Money putting down the brickwork to help ensure the future generations are forced to look at life thru the lookinglass which they created, the one that keeps you passive, controlled, and more than happy for them to keep you like that.
Sorry for the rant, Steph is getting increasingly saddend by the way the world is being manipluated as of late. You feel like you want to get out, escape it all, like you do when you're little and are overwhelmed so you go to you're room. Only to realise that you have nowhere to escape too now, as the thing you're trying to escape from has allready taken over.
