A giant solar tornado five times wider than Earth has been filmed by a NASA spacecraft.

NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory captured the tornado twisting across the surface of the sun at speeds of up to 300,000km/h, SPACE.com reports.

"This is perhaps the first time that such a huge solar tornado is filmed by an imager," Xing Li of Aberystwyth University in Wales told the website.

"Previously, much smaller solar tornadoes were found by the [NASA/European Space Agency] SOHO satellite. But they were not filmed."

The tornado was filmed in September last year but the footage was only made public when Li presented it to the 2012 National Astronomy Meeting in UK's Manchester today.

Solar tornados are made up of gases as hot as 2 million degrees Celsius that are shaped and driven by the sun's powerful magnetic field, rather than wind as in Earth's tornados, which reach top speeds of about 480km/h.

The sun is currently in an active period of its 11-year weather cycle, which is predicted to peak next year.

Amazing video and photos! This is so confronting and weird. I guess it looks like a tornado, but it looks more like a massive spherical object connecting with the sun to re-fuel! Even if it were a tornado, that is not reassuring either. We shall have to wait and see. I cannot believe that this will be the last strange thing to come from the sun this year.

Just a thought-- The rationalist in me poses that perhaps it is the sun which is getting 're-fueled' or getting some sort of input or adjustment rather than providing an output. James Horvak has posed a lot comments on what he calls EMVs. If i remember correctly, he was suggesting something along the line of "sun maintenance". Earthlings are stuck with fueling there needs, but we have no scientific proof of the ultimate functionality of the universe.

I remember seeing this on another thread when this event happened. This is mindboggling footage that really opens up the stage that ‘we are not alone’, IMHO.

This sphere appeared two days before the big X flares and the strange massive black triangular shape that appeared within the sun.

My intuition tells me that rather than this massive sphere/planetoid ‘needing’ to re-fuel, it was siphoning off energy to decrease the massive flares that happened days later, preventing Earth being mega blasted and wiping out all our power and transmitters.

This footage IMHO, is a wonderful example of Divine Intervention at work. Humanity is being assisted in many ways right now by very spiritually advanced civilisations. Humans are experiencing a great conscious awakening; this is meant to happen as our Earth and all those living upon her are being DNA upgraded (consciousness) with all this ‘Space Weather’ of highly charged proton clouds.

Our Sun is also being affected by this space weather. The shadow governments around the world have been preparing for these Times with underground bases et cetera, for their ‘chosen’ few, leaving humanity in the dark and very vulnerable.

These advanced spiritual beings are doing all that they can to assist ‘All of Humanity’. They lovingly desire for us to walk into our rightful Destiny, a glorious enlightening future that has been so long foretold and they are assisting in what ways they can to help us making this transition. Smile.

However, we must admit we have no idea on what it is.

It could be a UFO, but it could be a lot of things that we just don´t know.

We, humans, when in front of something we can´t explain, always come up with a speculative explanation, because we just can´t resist to fill the gaps. Most of the times we are too arrogant to admit that we don´t know.

So, for a person who believes in UFO, this thing will look like an UFO. For a person who believes in science, it will have a more complex pseudo-scientific name.

Just like ancient humans used to consider elements like fire as gods, because they couldn´t explain them, we now do the same thing, but in different levels.

Personally, I have no idea what is this think. It might be a UFO indeed, but it might not as well.

I´m not going to claim I know what it is, because that would be a lie. Just like anyone who comes up with any definitive explanation for it would be just lying as well.

I think people are just watching too much sci-fy and tel-lie-vision. No one knows what this is, or if this whole image was created by NASA to further manipulate the masses. I listen to what they have to say and I even consider some of their science. But, I really don't trust them, nor their instruments and technology. How can you trust the knowledge or intentions of such a cryptic group? I kind of feel sorry for those that do make a big deal out of these sought of things. They're oblivious to what this is obviously doing to them...Only if more can see how they are setting us up.

The relationship with alternative media and NASA is very strange. They trust and distrust NASA whenever it fits.

When a NASA image or any other info go against some people´s beliefs, they don´t trust NASA. When NASA shows an image or info that apparently reinforces some people´s beliefs, they trust NASA.

When NASA say they´ve sent a ship to to moon, people tell it´s fake. Then they use NASA images to prove there are artificial artifacts on the moon, made by ETs.

When NASA say there´s no sign of life in Mars, the alternative media makes fun of it. However, if one day NASA say that they have found a planet full of intelligent life, the alternative media will take it very seriously and rely on NASA´s info as proof.

Contradiction...The contemporary human being just can´t live without it. :)
