What are these plumes? Are they only happening in US?

It seems to me and I am no expert but the plumes are geothermal outgassing through old formally inactive volcanos. This would make big news, it seems nothing important makes the news anymore.

Is this outgassing being done naturally? I never heard of that. If it's artificially induced then for what purpose and by whom and why now all of a sudden? Where did you hear about this Referee?

The Cause is unkown to me I have some theories however. I do not know if this is happening elswhere? Anyone?
