Okay I don't typically start threads at all so i wasn't sure where to put this but here goes.
My sister is in a desperate situation right now, her husband and father of her two children, has recently been jailed with a bail that's out of her reach. The crime? immigration. As a bit of backround for you, her husband Alberto has lived in the USA since he was 15 years old. His parents snuck him over because they were a really poor family and wanted him to grow up in a safe place.
Alberto really shouldve gotten a green card all this time but I guess he had a kind of "that won't happen to me" attitude. It is easy for us all to chastise him and tell her "I told you so" but it's not about that. I worry about what she will do to be with him again. I worry about my nieces living in a dangerous neighborhood.
If she can raise the money by THIS FRIDAY it will give her a year to contact senators, write letters, maybe some laws will even change in the process. If she cannot raise the money, her husband will be banned from the country for 10 years and she will likely move there.
Now anyone who has been to Mexico knows that it is currently one of the more dangerous countries to raise children in. It is also very poor and hard to make a living there. There are cartels who kidnap people for ransom as well, and my sisters husband barely escaped with his own life when he came back here after spending time with his family.
My sister recently left her job right before this happened due to medical reasons so she's already short on cash. After it's happened she left her rental to move in with a friend living in Tacoma where he is imprisoned so her kids might get to visit him at least.
I don't personally agree that immigration should go without punishment but we're talking about a man who was brought here as a child. He as a person is pretty soft spoken but he has helped my sister overcome many personal barriers/issues and when she's with him she much more calm than she used to be. Now that this has happened shes talking to everyone she can to try and get help but many of her friends don't have anything to offer either.
She has until friday.
The choice is yours, i will leave the link, please help only if it is in your means and thank you for taking the time.
Sincerely, Sowelu
